It's been a good few weeks maybe a month or two since I last took a look at an episode of Worzel Gummidge. I will admit that this was something that i've been trying to rectify for the past few weeks however for one reason or another it just didn't happen however i've now finally sat down and watched another episode of Worzel Gummidge and so then join me as I review the episode that sees a Doctor actor and a Doctor Who companion actor team up for the very first time in a really different show with the episode in question being called simply just "The Golden Hind" enjoy.
The plot of the episode is Worzel befriends the mascot of the new local Fish & Chips show but finds that he might have to fight for his beloved Aunt Sally. ow then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well in then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad with this episodes plot being simple but delightfully simple in my freaking opinions anyways /at least.
Starring in this episode is Jon Pertwee as Worzel Gummidge , Una Stubbs as Aunt Sally and Jeremy Austin as John Peters. Also starring in this episode is Charlotte Coleman as Sue Peters , Geoffrey Bayldon as The Crowman , Mike Berry as Mr. Peters , Norman Bird as Mr. Braithwaite , James Coyle as Mr. Arkinshaw , Bernard Cribbins as Jolly Jack , Patrick Newell as Mr. Fletcher and Michael Ripper as Mr. Shepherd.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. Which for this show isn't all that new as every single episode thus far has had some really good acting in it and alot of that comes down to two things the first one being the fact that this episodes cast is made up of a bunch of really good actors and actresses and the second of which being the fact that this episodes script is so good that all the cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of all of them more naturally.
As you might have noticed the late and great Bernard Cribbins guest stars in this episode which means that this is the only episode of the show where we get a see the actor who played The Doctor and a future Doctor Who companion in the exact same episode. Which as i'm a huge Doctor Who fan was just something that I loved and the fact that both of the actors in question spend pretty much all of this episodes screen time together just makes me want Big Finish to make an audio series of their Doctor Who characters together just because I think that that would be a fun adventure to have in time for either the shows sixtieth or maybe even the shows seventieth anniversary.
In a rather shocking move this episode actually sees Worzel calling out Aunt Sally for how mean and cruel she's been to him. However for some unknown reason he goes back to loving her by the end of the episode even tho he knows that she's bad for him and that she's just a bad person but the fact that the makers of this show put in the scene of Worzel calling out Aunt Sally to me says that the makers of this show know full well that she's a terrible and that the two of them just shouldn't be together with the bit with Worzel saying that he still loves Aunt Sally to me felt like that it came from the studio heads as they realized just how popular these characters were and still are and how popular that status quo was and really wanted the show to go back to it's status quo.
Given that Jolly Jack is a nautical figure I was expecting them to reference Saucy Nancy and yet when they did it still made me smile. As it did make sense given the Jolly Jack character and just the idea of these two characters meeting up somewhere on the seven seas is just wonderful and all it did was make me want to see a scene with those two characters just because of how wonderful there scene together could be as Jack is pretty much the female version of The Saucy Nancy and s having those two characters not only share the scene together but also end up together as a couple is something that would have made total sense and it would have just been fun to see them together.
This show isn't really known for dropping any plotlines as all of the plotlines that they usually set up they also pay off by the end of the episode. Yet the opposite is true for this episode as they set up a plotline about a bunch of seagulls arriving in the village and moving rather oddly which is something that they never pay off which is a shame because you could have done it with one line of dialog with The Crowman saying that the seagulls are here because there's a Fish & Chips shop in the local village and that's really all you'd need to say it would have taken less then a day to film it and all you'd have needed is one actor and that's it.
Now then I cannot for the absolutely life me remember whatever this episodes exact grand total running time even but I do know that for a fact that this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of roughly twenty six minuets. Which is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for this show to have to and to this episodes credit this episode really doesn't have alot their interms of plot to cover a longer running time and while I would have liked a longer running time just because I was enjoying this episode quite alot if this episode was even five minuets longer then it would have been stretching this already thin plot even thinner but I will admit tho that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it.
So now then since this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With thus episode having alot of really funny moments all of which I really liked as they were really fun to see in this episode and it helps that all of this episodes jokes felt like jokes that these characters would actually say and that made them all the more funnier in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this was a really great episode and while I still think that series four of this show features far to much Aunt Sally the fact that this episode had Worzel calling her out for all of the things that she's done made it all the more worthwhile in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very very episode in this very review and as such that means that this very episode earns itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me,
