Doctor Who: The Christmas Invasion Review

There are alot of things that you expect to see in Doctor Who thanks to the recent modern version of the show. With one of those things being a Christmas special airing on Christmas Day itself and well with the next special seeing a a return to that tradition I thought that it was only right that I take a look back at the episode that started it all and so then join me as I review the episode that is the very first ever Doctor Who Christmas Special with the episode in question being called simply just "The Christmas Invasion" enjoy.

The plot of the episode is when an alien invasion begins on Earth it's up to a freshly regenerated and bare conscious Doctor to save the day. Now the  interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I im all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good with this episodes plot being a really good example of just how good a Christmas Special episode of Doctor Who can be when it's at it's best with the plot of this episode also doing a very good job of making the villains seem really threatening as well as being both really entertaining at times ad also being rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is David Tennant as The Doctor , Billie Piper as Rose Tyler and Camille Coduri as Jackie Tyler. Also starring in this episode this Noel Clarke as Mickey Smith , Penelope Wilton as Harriet Jones , Adam Garcia as Alex Klein , Daniel Evans as Danny Llewellyn , Sean Gilder as The Sycorax Leader , Anita Briem as Sally Jacobs , Chu Omambala as Major Blake , Sian McDowell as Sandra , Paul Anderson as Jason , Cathy Murphy as Mum , Marvyn Williams as Alan and Lachele Carl as Trinity Wells.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With all of the actors that you expect good performances from really delivering in this episode with both David and Billie giving us some truly wonderful performances in this episode which do go along way to show you why these two actors are a pair of really good actors with the same thing also being true for the rest of this episodes cast as well with the acting in this episodes being helped by the fact that the script for this episode is just so good that all the cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally.

Doing the CGI for this episode is the legends and the greats that are currently over at The Mill and Any Effects. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad but that's also the issue as this episodes CGI hasn't really aged all that well for the most this is of course no fault of those involved with the making of the episode as they couldn't have known just for far CGI would come in the years after the making of this episode but at the same time it is something that dates this episodes quite badly and while the bad looking CGI in this episode isn't as bad as some of the CGI from the first series what we get in this episode is still some pretty bad looking CGI.

For those of you that don't know this episode wasn't the first episode of the show to air on Christmas Day as that honor goes to an episode of The Daleks Master Plan which was broadcast on Christmas Day but is not a Christmas special. Which means that this episode is the first episode of Doctor Who to be a full blown Christmas Special episode which makes me wonder why the team didn't put together a Christmas Special sooner as even back in the classic Doctor Who era the show was known to do two part serials and as such they very easily could have done a two part Doctor Who serial to be broadcast over two days and yet for some strange reason they never got around to doing it and it took them until after the first series of the revived Doctor Who became a huge massive hit to fully get around to doing a Christmas Day Doctor Who Special episode.

This was also the first episode to feature who is arguably the most well known modern actor to play The Doctor David Tennant. With it being very easy to see why his Doctor became so popular as even in this episode his take on the character is pretty much nailed down right away as alot of what his Doctor would become well known for all started in this episode from the over the top emotional moments to the somewhat more goofy elements of his character they are all things that started in this episode and they are all things that are done wonderfully as this version of the character is still mournful old man who has just witnessed the death if his people and yet at the same given that he's post regeneration he's full of wonder and giddy to see the universe anew all over again and while over time he would become more mournful and regretful of loosing his people when he does do something more fun and goofy it also seems in his character to act in such a way.

There us one major downside to this episode and that's the fact that despite saving not only her world but countless others Rose still somehow doesn't know how to act when trying to save the world. Which just doesn't make sense even if you take into account the fact she's recovering from shock from seeing The Doctor regenerate for the first time she's also been in situations where she's had to save the world granted that was with the help with The Doctor alot of the time but even so she'd have picked up at least a few hints on what to do even if she doesn't fully understand it which means that seeing her act all helpless when in reality she is the one with the most knowledge in this situation just really doesn't make sense as both she and The Doctor have handled situations like this before now with her writing in this episode not really being helped by the fact that the same thing is also true for the Prime Minister who you could argue is also stressed out about trying to defend an entire country and trying to make sure the aliens don't invade earth.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time if exactly fifty eight minuets and fifty five seconds. With this episode having a really solid running time for this episode but at the same time the episode only has enough plot to cover only roughly around forty five minuets with the rest of the time being spent on filler scenes with Jackie which whilst alot of these scenes are indeed really funny scenes there also scenes that don't add anything to the plot of the episode with those scenes taking up air time that could have been used on developing the episodes villains by giving them an actual motive and making them feel alot more like an actual threat instead of feeling alot more like an after thought like they ultimately but I will admit that this episode really does have some rather really solid pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With this episode having some really impressive looking action scenes in it but the action in this episode could have been a bit more better and it would have been a bit more engaging if they made the villains feel alot more like an actual threat and yet because they don't do that it's not really that surprising that they get beat after an admittedly rather impressive sword fight with the episodes action also being alot more better then it really had any right to be in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this was a rather solid Christmas Special and it was a great way to introduce a rather popular actor as a rather popular character with this episode for the most part holding up rather well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are n this very episode in this very review and as such tat means that this very episode earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen Im personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review Amazon . Co . UK , the official Doctor Who fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get the images from these very episode that I used in this very review being Google Images simply just due to the fact that alot of the images that are on Google Images  are all really fairly high in quality and as well as them all being really fairly freaking high in definition.
