Batman: The Animated Series Review

Hello there batfans I make it no secret that I was a fan of this show growing up and I figured that it was high time I reviewed this awesome show not like i'm bias or anything by the way did I mention this show is awesome.

Incase you didn't know the series started in 1992 and it ran until 1995 but something strange happened to the show because for the final fifteen episodes the show was renamed The Adventures of Batman & Robin Batman: The Animated Series had a grand total of 85 episodes with season 1 having a whopping 65 and season 2 having a much shortened 20.

The show used the villain of the week format instead of having an overall plot line which I think works well for superhero shows but that's not to say that the show didn't have multi-part episodes in fact a fair chunk of season 1 is made up of multi-part stories and they help make the show feel more epic and grand even if the episode really didn't need to be two parts.

Since the show has a freaking huge cast list i'm not going to name every actor who played a role on the show so in the series we have the great Kevin Conroy , Loren Lester both Clive Revill and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. , Bob Hastings , Robert Costanzo , Melissa Gilbert , the great Mark Hamill , Arleen Sorkin and Adrienne Barbeau. Now the question is shall I say how good Kevin Conroy is in this show and the answer is yes I shall why because he's freaking awesome he was and always will be THE voice for Batman just like Mark Hamill will always be THE voice for The Joker.

What I found interesting is that both Clive and Efrem both voiced Alfred but at different points Clive did the first three produced episodes while Elfrem did the rest of the series and you really cannot tell the difference and I should know i've spend most of the day watching a ton of episodes and I can say there's no difference at all in the voices.

This show really did Batman the best just due to the fact that we actually see him solve mysteries yeah think about in all other Batman media we rarely see him be a detective despite having the name "The Worlds Best Detective" but here we see him gather clues to help find out who the villain or in some cases what there scheme is and it makes me wish that more Batman cartoons and movies did this since it's apart of his character.

As well as giving us new takes on the classic villains the show also gave us a whole host of new characters the most famous of which is easily Harley Quinn and while watching her debut episode I was shocked that she wasn't in it that much but at the same time it helped create a mystery about her that would later get answered.

What occurred to me while watching the series for the purpose of reviewing is the fact that the setting and style help make it a timeless show all you'd need to do is show people one picture from the series and they will know it's Batman. I also loved the fact that there was a lot of different time periods thrown into this show the blimps seen at the start of every episode are from the 30's and 40's , the style of the cars they drive are much from the 40's , the way the characters dress i'd say is from the 50's and the technology for the most part is from the 90's.

The animation in the show to be honest it's not that good but at the same time it's alot better then most of the stuff that's being produced today *cough* Teen Titans Go! *cough* and this was all hand drawn as well that is something that's not done today for me personally tho the animation is at it's best during both the intro and the fight scenes.

I couldn't do a review of this show and not mention the classic intro there's a reason why the intro is a classic it's so freaking good and if you notice not only is there a little story going on but there's also no sound apart from the lightning at the end and the music all of that combined help set the mood for the show it lets you know that this show will not pull any punches so just enjoy the ride.

This is an action show so of course there's going to be alot of action in it and the action is honestly pretty damn good yes it's just Batman punching people but in those scenes you get to see Batman using his brains so he tries to outwit as well as out punch his opponents.

Even tho the show uses the main theme from the 1989 Batman movie the the score for the show was done by the late Shirley Walker and I honestly think she was born to make scores for Batman because she kills it with this show all of her music fits the show perfectly and it really is hard to imagine the show without her music playing over it.

Overall if your a Batman fan young or old I highly recommend you watch this series it's so freaking good and I promise you'll love every single second of it for me the show gets a 9.5 out of 10.
