Doctor Who: School Reunion Review

In the world of Doctor Who companions come and go all the time with very few of them actually returning to the show. However there is one companion out there that many agree s the best of the best so much of the so that it wasn't all that surprising when it 2006 it was announced that she'd be starring in her second spin-off with that one actually going on to become a full series however before all of that happened she made her grand return to Doctor Who almost thirty something years after previously leaving the show and so then join me as I review the episode that sees The Doctor team up with some old friends to take on some new enemies with the episode in question being called simply just "School Reunion" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is whole The Doctor and rose are undercover investigating a school that after a UFO sighting suddenly starts getting record results they bump into an old friend of The Doctors and have to take on some evil aliens who are hell bent on destroying the universe as we know it. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt hat the actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good with this episodes plot being alot better then what it really had any right to be as by all accounts this episodes plot really shouldn't have worked as it was a plot that is a bit simple and a bit to silly for it's own good and yet it's those exact same things that works well enough in the episodes favor and work for the plot of the episode and not against as they are things that the classic era of Doctor Who was also known for being as well and with this show being a kids show it does mean that we are going to get alot of simple plots that are also really easy to follow along with as well and while those might not work for every single plot of the episode here given the shows schools setting it is something that does work well enough in the shows favor with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is David Tennant as The Doctor , Billie Piper as Rose Tyler and Noel Clarke as Mickey Smith. Also starring in this episode is Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith , John Leeson as The Voice Of K9 Mk. III , Rod Arthur as Mr Parsons , Eugene Washington as Mr Wagner , Heather Cameron as Nina , Joe Pickley as Kenny , Benjamin Smith as Luke , Clem Tibber as Milo , Lucinda Dryzek as Melissa and Anthony Head as Mr Finch.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. Which is something that really isn't all that new not only for Doctor Who as a whole but also for this era of Doctor Who as the acting that's in this very show has always been top notch with all of this episodes really turning in some really good performances in this episode which is something that really does make alot of sense as all of this episodes main actors are a bunch of really good actors in there right and even tho this was only the third episode of the series to be filmed after The Christmas Invasion and New Earth you can really quite clearly see that David Tennant is already feeling really quite confident in his role as The Doctor something that really does shine through in this episode with the acting that's in this very episode also being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so good that all this episodes actors really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Doing the CGI for this episode is the legends and the greats that are currently over at The Mill and Any Effects. Now then interms of what I personally thought /felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good with this episodes CGI being alot better then alot of the CGI that was in the show at this point as to be frank alot of the effects in the early episodes of New Doctor Who really haven't aged all that well and thus come across as looking really bad because of it and yet with this episode it seems like the effects budget got a huge increase as while yes there are a few bad looking effects in this episode alot more of the episodes effects not only look really good for a 2006 episode of the show but also look like that they really could belong in mid budget TV show from ten years ago and while yes there are few bad looking projection shots in this episode which really haven't aged all that all the overall majority of this episodes CGI have aged really well and it really does make you wonder if the effects budget for this series of the show really was bigger then what it was for the last series as the effects for the last series now look really bad where as the same thing cannot be said for the effects that are in this episode.

As was mentioned in the casting for this episode this is the episode that sees long time favorite Elisabeth Sladen make her grand return to Doctor Who. More then thirty years after her last appearance in the show but a little over ten years since she last played the character as she did reprise the role in the much hated and loathed charity crossover special Dimensions In Time and she just very easily slips right back into character in this episode almost as if she had just finished playing the character a year before she filmed this episode and for those of us who didn't get to watch he run on the show when this episode was being aired it's not hard to see why she captured the hearts of audience members when she was on the show as she is funny and charming and more then equal to The Doctor with her still being the gold standard for Doctor Who companions to this very day and while the first attempt at a solo spin-off for the character K9 And Company didn't go far apart from the one episode the other spin-off that the character starring in The Sarah Jane Adventures is perhaps the best spin-off series that Doctor Who has ever produced no only because of the fact that it focuses on a companion that people loved back then and got to love all over again but also because of the fact that the character is just such a good character in her own right.

What was somewhat interesting was the fact that this episode delved into the idea of what life is like when The Doctor does leave a companion behind. Be it by choice or in the case of Sarah Jane by force and that is something that is a really good idea with The Doctor explaining with this great speech about how he doesn't age and so going back for Sarah Jane would have been to painful for him because while Rose does and most likely would have spent the rest of her life with him he can't possibly spend the rest of his with her because of the fact that he regenerates where as humans die and decay and when you think of it that way that makes all of the departures in the shows history all the more heartbreaking as The Doctor will never go back to visit them as it would just be to painful for him to see someone that he's grown to care for grow older and older almost to the point where they could possibly die where as The Doctor himself just keeps on getting younger and younger but what lets the episode down is the fact that it doesn't delve into how that could effect not The Doctor but also his current companion Rose with the two of them just brushing it off right away when this is something that should have been discussed more and while we do get to see it from Sarah Jane's point of view as she's been unable to move on with her life since she last saw The Doctor even after that scene she doesn't have a moment where she realises that she has to keep on moving forward outside of one line dialog where she , Rose and The Doctor confront Mr. Finch in his school's IT room and that's really it.

This episodes main villains The Krillitanes weren't really that interesting villains for this episode to have. As while they do have a really cool looking design with them taking the form of what can only best be described as giant alien bats there's nothing to them personality wise that makes them all that interesting as they all come across as being these very one note characters that only have one thing one there mind and that's getting the children to do what they want and while that does also make them scary villains and it makes Mr. Finch a wonderfully creepy villain as well there's nothing about them that makes them memorable where as with creatures like say The Cybermen for example all of the in all of there iterations have something about there personalities that makes them interesting villains where as here The Krillitanes just come across as being villains that for the most part are trying to hard to be scary as the episode shows us so much about them when leaving some of what they did hidden in mystery would make them scary like we don't need to see them feeding on people every other scene just have it always happen off screen as that makes them all the more terrifying and what could fix The Krillitanes personalities is simple as all you have to do is show that there are some amongst them who don't always agree with what Finch is doing as that one little thing would go a long way to make them feel more like three dimensional characters and it would make Finch all the more creepy as you could have him be the one to eat the rogue the Krillitane on screen which would not only make that death all the more impactful as were seeing it happen on screen but it also make Mr. Finch a far more creepy and scary villain as well.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly forty four minuets and thirteen seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running time for this show to have at this point in time and to this episodes credit it really does have just the right amount there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time as while yes the episode really does take the time to hit all of the beats that you expect it to hit with a classic companion including having them meet back up with The Doctor and have them wonder why he never came back here because it was the first time that it happened in modern Doctor Who it does so in a way that is not only fitting for those characters but also services the story as while yes yes the classic did also have companions come back to the show as well none of them took the time to ask that question of why The Doctor didn't return for them and that's something that thus episode does take the time to do and it's something that's done in service to the Sarah Jane character and while that scene with her and The Doctor and Rose discussing why he never came back for her doesn't add that much to the plot outside of Finch finding out that The Doctor is a timelord it would also be a disservice to the Sarah Jane character if a scene like that was cut out of the episode as well but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in his very episode was in all honesty really good. As this episodes action does also serve a purpose outside of getting rid of the villains as it's during this episodes action that we get see K9 Mark 3 basically die and while his death doesn't effect the action in the episode as a whole the very fact that he was willing to do something like that as his batteries were running out it is something that does show just how far The Doctor companions are willing to go to defend the earth with this episodes action being a good way to show case how the classic era of the show and the modern era of the show are vastly with neither being better then the other as in the modern era of the show they would have some really exciting music with laser going off everywhere and explosions going off and it would end with a big explosions where as in the classic era it would basically just be a fist fight between two characters and that's really it with the action inn this episode being pretty much exactly what just described about alot of the action in the modern era of Doctor Who and it's something that really does work for this episode and because of that we get a really exciting third act action scene in this very episode in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall if this episode isn't a fan favourite episode of the show then it really should be as it serves as a good way to get modern Doctor Who fans interested in a classic Doctor Who companion whilst still telling  really good stories with villains that only needed some minor work on them to become some really great villains in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

The Sarah Jane Adventures: Death Of The Doctor Review

When talking about Doctor Who as a whole it's very easy to forget that the show is more then just it's parent show. As such I thought it was about right to take a look back at an episode from what was a really truly beloved spin off series as it's something that doesn't really doesn't get as much attention as it really should do and so then join me as I review thee episode that sees not one but two characters crossover into this show with the episode in question being called simply just "Death Of The Doctor" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when she is told that The Doctor is dead Sarah Jane and her friends go to his funeral at a secret UNIT base only to discover something far more sinister is going on. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good and was alot better then what it really had to be for something that was quite literally a kids TV show as it's something that not only blends the drama of the first Russel T. Davies era of Doctor Who with the more outlandish nature of the Steven Moffat era of the show and yet it also remembers to be a fun filled plot as well and that is something that really does work well enough for this episode as well as the plot of the episode also serving as a great way to catch up with former companion Jo Grant in a way that feels true to her characters as well which was something that the makers of this show really didn't have to do but the very fact that they did proves that the creative team behind this show really were fans of Doctor Who with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Also starring in this very episode is Anjli Mohindra as Rani Chandra , Alexander Armstrong as the voice of Mr Smith , Katy Manning as Jo Jones , Finn Jones as Santiago Jones , Laila Rouass as Colonel Karim , Ace Bhatti as Haresh Chandra , Jimmy Vee as Groske , David Bradley as the voice of The Shansheeth , Phillip Hurd-Wood as the voice of The Groske , Jon Glover as the voice of The Shansheeth and House Of The Dragon star Matt Smith as The Doctor.

Now the interms of what I personally thought / felt about thew actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very was in all honesty. Which is something that really does make alot of sense as alot as this episodes actors are some really good actors in there own right with all of them turning in some really good performances as well all of which are things that they really didn't have to do on a kids TV show as they could have just phoned in their performances and no one would have cared all that much but the fact that they all went the extra mile to turn in a bunch of really good performances really does show you just how good alot of these actors are with the best actors in the whole episode being either Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith or Matt Smith as The Doctor both of whom are just a joy to watch and see them bounce off of each other just makes for some entertaining scenes with the same thing also being true for Katy Manning as Jo Jones as well who simply just slips right back into her character as if she had just finished playing her a few days ago with the acting that's in this very episode really being helped by the fact that this episodes script was just so good that all this episodes actors really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that rally help to raise the over all quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Now then  interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGU that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty i inn all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad for a kids TV show as those don't typically have that good CGI effects in them and while yes some of the CGI in this episode does look really cheap like the rocket that's in this UNIT base really doesn't look as good as it could have done that's more due to the fact that these kinds of shows don't typically have large budgets and thus the effects team would have gotten a big budget either and yet when we do get a really good looking like the outside of the UNIT base for example it is something that really does stand out as a good looking effect and it becomes clear that the effects team put alot more effort into making that effect look good then they did the rocket ship even tho both effects only get one scene and are only on screen for a matter of second with neither of them really adding to the actual plot of the episode which does make you wonder why more care and attention was put into one effect and not into the other effect when it really could have been fifty fifty.

This episode does mark the final time that Sarah Jane Smith interacts with another Doctor with her interactions with this version of The Doctor and her really bouncing off of each other really well. With this episode also marking the only time that The Doctor was written by a former Doctor Who showrunner in this case it was Russel T. Davies who actually does a really good capturing the essence of just how his version of the character really is with him still being the playful young man that he puts on as front but then somebody will utter a line and then you get a hint of just how dark and how disturbed this characters past really is and while we don't get any of Amy and Rory which is a shame as it would have been fun to see how Russel T. Davies writes there characters it is still interesting to see hi write the eleventh doctor as it gives you another fresh look at the character that was and still is very highly popular incarnation of the character and having him  meet up with Sarah Jane Smith does almost feel like a right of passage in a way as it comes across as him getting the seal of approval to truly be The Doctor even tho Matt Smith had been playing the character for least a year or two at this point in time it's just a shame that due to this show two episode per story format that he really does get a whole lot of screen time in both episodes and thus his role in the episode feels alot more like an extended cameo and not a main character in the plot like how it really should have been treated.

Also returning in this episode for the first time is Katy Manning as Jo Jones who hasn't been seen on screen since 1973's The Green Death. With her character actually brining up a very good point in the episode that being the fact that The Doctor never took the time to visit or even call her as he did go out of his way to visit Sarah Jane not just once but twice and while yes they do give an in-universe reasoning for that but at the same time tho it really does make you what all of the other companions have been going through mentally not really knowing when or even if they'll ever see The Doctor and while yes we do get to find out what happend to some of them it still doesn't change the fact that when they leave the TARDIS there changed for good by what they've been through and the one that changed them just goes and flies away and never ever sees them or calls them ever again and while The Doctor does say in this episode that he doesn't like to look back because it hurts him to much it still hurts his companions and keeps them from moving forward in there lives as they don't have the person who is basically there teacher help to talk to with The Doctor's talk with Jo being one of the most emotional scenes in the episode and it;s one tat really does work so well as it really does make you feel for those companions that hadn't until that point in time been seen again as they really do come across as being forgotten about by The Doctor.

This episodes villains The Shansheeth are some decent villains and they do have a really good design look them. However tho due to the fact that there literally just men in stilts they really can't do all that much and as a result of that is the fact that alot oof there movements come across as being really stilted this is of no fault of those playing the villains on the set as they have to work with what there given rather it's a fault of possibly the costume or creature team as while the villains do indeed look good they can't do all that much n those costumes and that is something that does limit what can actually be shown on screen but the characters themselves do come across as being really creepy with them wanting the key to the TARDIS so that they can travel across time and space causing mayhem and destruction wherever they go which is a good way to introduce The Doctor in a way that feels natural and it is something that makes the characters come across as being threatening as they are perfectly willing to kill people to get what they want something that as far as memory recalls is not something that they typically did on this show and yet in this episode it is something that works really well as The Doctor is someone who always has death and destruction around him constantly and as a result of that is the fact that it does make sense that this episodes villains would indeed try to not only kill him but also Sarah Jane Smith herself and Jo Jones as well as those are the two people that have know The Doctor the longest and serve as the perfect pressure points for them to get what they want which is something that also makes them look really smart as well.

Now then while I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember what this episode grand total running time even was I do know that this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of roughly fifty minuets. With this episode being two episodes long and each episode lasting around twenty five minuets with this structure and running time being fine for other episodes but for this episode because of the fact that this episode really does have more then enough there interms of plot to cover a much more longer episode count then the show really should have broken that structure for this episode as this episode is for all intents and purposes this episode is a special episode and there for could have been given at the very least three or maybe even four episodes long as this is something that would allow the story to be as epic as it;s trying to be as the whole thing about the story is them trying to kill of The Doctor and that's not something that should have been treated with a two episode episode count and yet by giving it those extra few episodes it would allow for characters like Santiago to be alot more developed then what they actually are and it wold allow for more scenes with the characters just sitting around and talking as that would then allow the story to breathe and to move at a more natural pace something that it really can't do with it's current episode count as every single scene has to be about moving the plot along and because of that the scenes that really should be emotional really can't land and then scenes that should be joyous don't work as neither of them are really given the time that they need really to fully breath but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that really does means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. As while this episode doesn't really have that much action in it which is something that really does make alot of sense as this is after all a kids show what little action we do get at the end of the second does work really well with it being genuinely really exciting and thrilling with The Doctor and the kids and trying to work out a way to get into a room that has Jo and Sarah chained up and mere moments from the death and seeing them still being able to help each other and give each other advice on how to get out of this situation was really interesting and was really entertaining to se in the episode with how this version of the doctor tries to get his friends free and out of danger really does feel like it's true to this version of the character with him even offering the original TARDIS key just to get his friends out of danger and while the action really does indeed suffer due to the fact the The Shansheeth really can't do all that much due to there costumes when we do see them attacking The Doctor at the end of part 1 it is something that does really well and it sets up as being a big threat to all of heroes as they've brought the universes greatest hero to his knees pretty much really without even breaking a sweat but this episode really could have done with a more action just to help to really sell the fact that this episode really is just an epic story in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this was a really good episode and it's one that really does remind you that Russel T. Davies really can write something that's really good something that he might have forgotten how to do thanks to the last series of Doctor Who with this episode being an episode that's really fun as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good ans as ell as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Doctor Who: Tales Of The TARDIS: Pyramids Of Mars SPOILER FILLED Review

Tales of The TARDIS a show that many Doctor Who fans can't see because of the fact that it wasn't payed for by Disney has now finally come back with a new episode. With this episode only being released because of the fact that the villain in this episode is also the villain in the series finale of Doctor Who series 14 and so then join me as I review the episode that came out just a few short days after a review of Pyramids Of Mars was very recently reviewed by me with the episode in question being called simply just "Pyramids Of Mars" enjoy.

The plot of this up is when The Doctor and Ruby meet up in the remembered TARDIS The Doctor starts to tell her about the time that he previously faced of against Sutekh. Now then interms if what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad with the episodes plot being very well done with the same thing not really being true for The Doctor and Ruby scenes which does make sense as those scenes are only bookends for the main story but at the same time given that this episode is featuring the same villain that's going to be featured in the series finale alot more effort should have gone into crafting a decent plot for The Doctor and Ruby scenes with the plot of the main episode being a really good plot which does make sense given that this episodes co-writer was Robert Holmes with the plot of the episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor , Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday and Tom Baker as The Doctor. Also starring in this episode is Bernard Archard as Marcus Scarman , Michael Sheard as Laurence Scarman , Peter Copley as Dr. Warlock , Michael Bilton as Collins , George Tovey as Ernie Clements , Peter Mayock as Namin , Raiders Of The Lost Ark star Vic Tablian as Ahmed and Gabriel Woolf as Sutekh.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about thew actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. Which really isn't all that surprising as both Millie and Ncuti have both turned in some really good performances in both of there debut years on the show with there acting more often that not being the true highlight of alot of the shows bad episodes and it's also the same thing alot of the cast for the main story as well with the true standout in that part of the episode being Tom Baker who is just simply phenomenal in this episode and while the rest of the cast in the episode as aa whole do turn in some good performances there not going to top just how good Tom , Ncuti and Millie are in this episode as all three of them really do bring there A game for this episode with the acting for this episode really being helped by the fact that the script for this episode is just so good that all this episodes cast have to do is simply just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does raise the overall quality of the acting that's really in this episode.

What wasn't to be expected from this episode was the fact that use some updated effects and remove alot of the episode original very cheesy looking effects. With the newer effects looking alot better then the cheesy looking effects from the original episode but at the same time tho there's a charm to those classic effects as well that is very sadly missing from the newer effects as the new effects look a little bit to polished and a a little bit to good when the effects in classic Doctor Who were never all that good to begin with and because of that they do have a certain charm to them when there done really well and while yes the effects in the new era of Doctor Who does look and Doctor Who should always have some good effects when your replacing effects in an episode of film and updating then you should at least make an attempt to make the newer effects look like they were made back when the original production was being made as that would help those new effects blend in more where as the effects in this episode despite them looking good and being a vast improvement over the effects in the original episode don't blend in they stand out.

SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!

This show is pretty much Doctor Who's answer to Mystery Science Theater 3000 in that both shows feature segments with there own casts where as Mystery Science Theater 3000 will feature the main cast making jokes of a full movie this show just features a full length episode of the show. With this show and this episode in particular doing something else that Mystery Science Theater 3000 does less often and that's feature edits to whatever it is that's being spotlighted in that weeks particular episode and while the edits don't effect the overall plot of the episode they are noticeable and more often just come across as feeling weird as unlike Mystery Science Theater 3000 which replaces those scenes with there own host segments with this show they don't do that and as a result of that is the fact that there's no need to remove those scenes in the first place as this show doesn't really replace them with anything thus making the edits made to this episode comes across as being rather pointless and are there just for the sake of being there and that's really it.

One of the major issues in this episode is the fact that even tho the episode does feature the fifteenth doctor and Ruby Sunday together again. It doesn't take the time to explain how there together again as in the last episode of Doctor Who they were quite clearly miles apart from each other and not only that the episode doesn't take the time to set up something that could be payed of in the next episode of Doctor Who which granted they didn't have to do but when your rebroadcasting the debut episode of a villain that you've just reintroduced into the show and your featuring newly filmed scenes with The Doctor and Ruby Sunday then it's implied that your going to be setting up something in this episode that could then be payed of in the next episode of Doctor Who and yet this episode doesn't do that as all it does is establish that Sutekh is now a bigger threat then what he was in this episode which really isn't needed as we could have gotten all of that just from the ending of The Legend Of Ruby Sunday and the start of the next episode it's not something that needs to established in this episode but what is needed in this episode is to establish how The Doctor and Ruby are now suddenly in the memory TARDIS and aren't miles away like they were at the end of the previous episode of Doctor Who.

As a villain Sutekh himself isn't really that threatening of a villain as while yes he does have a rather creepy look about him. He doesn't really have that much of a plan as while yes we do find out that he wants to destroy the world we don't find out why and we don't don't find out what he gets out of it with this not really being helped by the fact that the character spends alot of time just sitting down and not really doing nothing with alot of his plans being done by hos servant Laurence Scarman who is arguably a better villain as the makers of the episode at least went to the effort to make him alot more interesting and just as creepy looking as Sutekh was and yet for some reason despite him being the better of the two characters it's Sutekh who is the main villain of the episode and while yes it is easy to see why people would be scared of this villain as he does look like a creepy just because the villain looks creepy doesn't make him an interesting villain and because of that is that it's not that hard to see why this villain was largely forgotten about for the overall vast majority of the Doctor Who fandom as he just isn't all that memorable of a villain.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and sixteen minuets and twenty seconds. Which is a bit on the short side for this show as an episode of this show is typically around the one hour and thirty minuets mark and yet for some strange reason this episode was fifteen whole minuets shorter when the episode really does have more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that large amount of running time as without the scenes on Ncuti and Millie the original episode ran for around one hour and thirty minuets and yet because of the fact that they made pointless edits for no reason we now have an episode that's oddly shorter then the original episode that's being spotlighted and because of that is the fact that the episode really does feel incomplete where as the original episode despite still being short in it's own right still feels really alot more complete then what this episode does but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this an action show that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. Which for classic Doctor Who isn't that bad as they typically didn't do that much action scenes when it came to the classic era of Doctor Who and as a result of that is that when they do have some action in any given episode they usually went as all out as there small budget would allow and that is the case here with the episode making use of model filming for alot of the episodes action with the action in the episode being alot better then what it really had any right to be with this being because of the fact that the action in this episode felt earned and served a purpose of some kind in the overall plot of the episode and wasn't just there just so they could have an action scene in this very in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall as a lead in to the series finale this episode really doesn't do all that much and kind of feels unimportant because of it but at the same time it;s not that hard to see why this episode could serve as a great double bill with The Legend Of Sunday as it really very easily could have set up things to be payed of in the series finale and yet it just doesn't which is something that really does let down the episode as a whole in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

Some Of My Favorite Things To Come Out Of The Whoniverse

 

Ever since the BBC launched the Whoniverse section on BBC Iplayer we've been seeing quite alot of new Doctor Who content all within the space of just over a month. With all of this in flux of content I thought that it was only about right that I tell you what some of my personal favorite things are to be found in this glorious section of BBC Iplayer and please note things like Doctor Who: Video Commentaries won't be counted as they are just basically DVD extra's and i'm not counting any old shows either and nor will I be counting Doctor Who itself as that would make the number spot pretty obvious and so then join me as I tell you what so me of my favorite things are to come out on the whoniverse enjoy.

Doctor Who: The Daleks In Colour

This is kind of a cheat as it is just an old episode of the show that was colorized and re-edited but given that was something new that we haven't seen before now that makes it count. This was something that was done to help Doctor Who to celebrate it's sixtieth anniversary and what a better way to help to celebrate this huge anniversary by showing a brand new version of the story that first introduced the world to the The Daleks yes it's something that didn't need to be done as we already have the original episodes in their original black and white format on BBC Iplayer the very fact that this film version of the story even exists really at all is truly something as it's something that the current Doctor Who creative team really didn't have to do and yet not only did they do it they also got both Nicholas Briggs and David Graham to record new lines as the Daleks as well.

While the coloring for this filmed version of the story could have been so much better that's not really something that you can blame of the current production team. As they got fans to colorize the entire story and the fans of course won't have the technology that professional people would have had and the fact that for some reason they chose to add in some really obvious CGI in the opening when the original opening worked so well in the first place really doesn't help this filmed version of the story out at all neither does the fact that at times the editing for this version of the story seems to be really all other place that does negate the fact that they still managed to tell the exact same time in a much more tighter seventy five minuets and with that shorter running time also comes the fact that really quite alot of what bogged the original story down is now gone completely.

Tales Of The TARDIS

This little show was sadly only made available for those of us here in the UK but fear not the rest of the world as your not really missing out on much. As the show doesn't really reveal any new information nor does it really set up anything that pays in the specials with this show basically being the Doctor Who version of Mystery Science Theater 3000 in that it does feature new scenes with returning actors some of whom played The Doctor others did not all it is basically the omnibus version of Classic Doctor Who stories and nothing really mire then that but given that this show was quite literally a last minuet thing that was added late in the day for the sixtieth anniversary celebrations it's amazing that we got in the final cut of the show was really as good as it was as we very easily could have ended up with something that's really much much more worse.

As a show on it's own this wasn't that bad of a way to help to kick start not only the Whoniverse section on BBC Iplayer. It's also a great way to kick of the sixtieth anniversary celebrations as the show is all about celebrating Classic Doctor Who which is something that the previous anniversary special The Day Of The Doctor didn't do with that special focusing more on celebrating the then current era of Doctor Who which us something that did leave alot of fans of Classic Doctor Who feeling left out as there was nothing in those celebrations that was for them and that celebrated an era of the show that they loved well now we have something that does celebrate that era of the show it's something that did get alot of praise from alot of people as it brought back episodes that don't really get alot of love and attention.

Doctor Who: Unleashed

The newest show to premiere as part of the Whoniverse is also one of the most fun shows that Doctor Who has right now. Granted this show is pretty much just exactly Doctor Who: Confidential but that doesn't mean that it's not a good show as this show is a really good show that offers us a unique look into the making of the show even if we're just five episodes as yes this show did premiere after the release of the Children In Need special it has already made itself a must watch show as it does give us some unique looks into what it's like making the show on a day to day basis and while the show would be better if they had a slightly better host and if they just got rid of the segments where the host tries to do something on the crew that doesn't mean that this isn't a good show as this show is a must watch for any Doctor Who fan.

There are some issues with this show that do keep it from being a great show as the show doesn't have that long of a running time. With the other major issue being the fact that it doesn't go into that much detail about the making of the show with the show just touching all of, the surface level stuff which is still great but it would be better if the show went deeper into the making of the show like showing us the table reads for each episode or showing interviews with the writer of the episode where they discuss what they idea was behind the episode and how they came up with that idea just stuff like that which will be greatly loved by alot of Doctor Who fans as it would give us more information about the show that we love and just going back to Confidential for a minuet it would be great if this episode talked about how they did certain effects like what they used to in Doctor Who Confidential as well as those are some very interesting things to talk about as well.

Imagine... Russell T Davies: The Doctor And Me

This one is also kind of a cheat as it's an episode of another TV show but it's been uploaded to the Whoniverse page so it counts. Right now this episode is perhaps the best thing if not one of the best things on the Whoniverse page as it goes into such great detail about the life and times of writer and current Doctor Who showrunner and producer Russel T. Davis with the best thing being that it just doesn't cover Doctor Who it covers quite alot of his filmography and while the episode isn't an easy watch as it's one hour and fifteen minuets long it is still something that is worth watching as you really get to see the man behind some of the greatest modern Doctor Who stories and finding what he took from his personal life to make some of his most successful was truly enlightening and by the end it was truly heartbreaking as well.

There's not really enough kind words that could be said by anyone to describe just how good this documentary is. As it truly is something that needs to be seen to be believed as you'll laugh quite alot but by the end you'll be crying so much more and it's those kinds of things that make you remember why he is one of the best writers working in childrens television today as he doesn't talk down to his audience and while yes some of the messaging in The Star Beast was a bit heavy handed as was what he said about Davros for the Children In Need special that doesn't take away from the fact that when he's good he's great and that us something that cannot be denied by his haters as without him we wouldn't have had the show back in 2005 and back for as long as it has been back as he filled the show with so much love , humor and yes even a bit of sorrow as well.

Doctor Who At 60: A Musical Celebration

As with the previous entry this is kind of a cheat as it's just a concert but at the same time it's also an oddly important one as well. As this is the concert where the new theme song was first debuted along with a great deal of things as well and while granted this concert is juts about the music of Doctor Who and nothing more then that the music of the show is just as important and just as iconic as the person who's playing The Doctor or any of the other characters in this show with it being twice as important for the music to he right as with the wrong track playing a scene could go from being serious on the day of filming to being comedic due to an editing mistake and with the right music choice the audience is going to feel exactly what the show makers want us to feel which in the end will help the show out a great deal.

While granted this concert show is just a trimmed down version of the one that was performed live on BBC Sounds. It is still a good show and who doesn't get a goosebumps hearing your favorite track from the show being performed live it's just something that will always happen and while yes it would have better if the filmed show wasn't an edited version of the show that was first broadcast on BBC Sounds that doesn't make t a bad show as all it does is make it a show that alot more people who perhaps didn't know that was first on BBC Sounds or even really what BBC Sounds even is for that matter can now watch and really get the exact same experience that those of us who did watch the BBC Sounds version of the show got when the show was first released.

This list was kind of hard to put together as alot of the stuff on the Whoniverse page is worth watching anyway and just keeping it down to just some of the new stuff was a challenge but a fun one none the less in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about alot of the shows that are on the Whoniverse page in this post however I would gladly recommend that those of you that can view the Whoniverse to do so as there a great wealth of content all of which is related to the show that we all love and while this post mostly focuses on the new stuff there's a ton of stuff from the past all about this truly wonderful show all of which i'm sure will be worth watching as much as this new stuff is and alot of which i'm sure will give us just as much information about the show then we could all possibly know what to do with.

Doctor Who: Tales Of The Tardis: The Three Doctors Review

 

We knew back when it was announced that Disney was acquiring the distribution rights to Doctor Who that there would be alot more spin offs happening. Well to kick of it's anniversary month the BBC have dropped all six episodes of it's first spin-off series as well as announcing the name of the shared Doctor Who universe as well and well it's really one of those episodes that i'm going to be talking about today and so then join me as I review the episode that really celebrated the shows tenth anniversary with the episode in question being called simply just "The Three Doctors" enjoy.

The plot of the episode is when the creator of the experiments that allowed the time lords to travel in time seeks his revenge against the time lords it's up to the first three doctors to stop him meanwhile Jo and Clyde reunite in the Tardis. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about thew actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good with the story also being really entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Jon Pertwee as The Doctor , Patrick Troughton as The Doctor and William Hartnell as The Doctor. Also starring in this episode is Katy Manning as Jo Grant , Nicholas Courtney as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart , John Levene as Sergeant Benton , Stephen Thorne as Omega , Roy Purcell as President , Clyde Pollitt as Chancellor , Graham Leaman as A Time Lord , Rex Robinson as Dr. Tyler , Laurie Webb as Ollis , Patricia Prior as Mrs. Ollis and The Sarah Jane Adventures star Daniel Anthony as Clyde Langer.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty. Really good with all of the cast both in the original episode and in the newly filmed scenes really do turn in some really good performances with this really being helped by the fact that not only are these a bunch of really good actors but also because of the fact that this episodes script again both in the original episode and in the newly filmed scenes as well is just so good that all the cast just have to do is say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally.

With this show we see the launch of the Whoniverse which us the brand name for anything to do with Doctor Who and all of it's related products. With not only this show launching but also a new documentary hosted by David Tennant and over eight hundred hours of classic Doctor Who which doesn't include all of the episodes mostly because of  the fact that alot of the episodes but in the case of An Un Earthly Child it's because the son of the episodes writer falsely believes that alot of the Doctor Who iconography that was introduced in that episode was first thought up by his father but either way we have never had and mostly never will have this much Doctor Who all in one place with the whole idea of the Whoniverse really is to basically be Doctor Who's answer to the modern day cinematic universe.

The best way that I can describe this show to those of you who are outside of the UK right now is that it's basically Doctor Who's answer to Mystery Science Theater 3000. As both shows do have their own plot lines with their own cast and crew working on them but they also integrate either a full length movie or in this case a full length episode of classic Doctor Who however that's where the similarities end as where as Mystery Science Theater 3000 frequently makes edits to the movies that there showing and has alot of host segments in each episode this show leaves the original episode untouched an only has two host segments one at the start of the episode and one at the end of the episode or at least that's how it was interms of this episode.

Altho I will admit that while this episode is mostly perfect that are some issues that I have with this episode. Like the fact that even this episode is being told from Jo's point of view we are being shown things that she wouldn't have seen and as such this is a case were removing those scenes would have made sense in the context of this show the other really major issue that I have with this episode is the fact Clyde really doesn't get alot of love and attention in this episode which does make sense as he never traveled with the Doctor but f your going to go to the trouble to bring back a character that hasn't been seen on screen for the first time in well over ten years then you really should give him some attention even if it's just him telling us what he's been up to in the years since we last him. 

I have to admit that even tho it was rather understandable as why we couldn't have gotten all three of the actors playing The Doctor in the same room together. It still would have been to see how all three doctors would have acted when they are in the same room as each other and while we do get hints of what a scene would have looked like thanks to William Hartnell not being able to commit to studio filming due to his health all we get is his doctor being trapped and only appearing on the TARDIS TV screen with his doctor acting like an older brother type of figure to the second and third doctors younger brothers which is something that would have been great to see with all of three of them in the same room as each other and it would have been fun seeing how all three of them would have come up with a solution to defeat Omega.

Noe then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and forty two minuets and five seconds. This is a bit on the long side for the episode to last as even tho both the newly filmed scenes and the original episodes have plenty of story to help tom cover that large amount of running time there are parts of the stories that do drag on a bit and really don't feel needed in the grand scheme like for example we don't really need to see as much of the time lords as we do in this episode and the ending with Jo and Clyde could have been trimmed down a bit as the ending really does start to drag on a bit but I will however admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that means that I have to actually talk about thew actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really cheesy at best. As even tho they obviously make it obvious when there using a stunt double it's when we get to Jon Pertwee's but fight scene where things get really cheesy as for some strange reason the whole thing is show in slow motion and mostly consists of both The Doctor and the creature that he's facing flipping each other with them occasionally chopping over and that's really it which just makes the whole fight look really bad and really cheesy as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this was a rather solid both from the original episode and the newly filmed scenes as well and incase your wondering you can only watch this show on BBCIPlayer as the whole show was funded by the BBC with no money coming in from Disney with this show so far being a really great way to start to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of this truly iconic show in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that means that this very episode earns itself a grand old core of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.
