Game Of Thrones: Winter Is Coming Review

Game Of Thrones was a TV show that took the world by the storm with it's fantastic first season episodes. As it's been roughly two months since I last did a review of anything from this franchise I thought that now was the absolutely right time to delve back into this really fantastical world with the very episode that started it all and so then join me as I review the episode that gave us the phrase Winter Is Coming with the episode in question being called simply just "Winter Is Coming" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when his good friend dies really suddenly in the night Lord Eddard Stark has to decide on if he's ready to become the hand of the king and really leave his home in the North for good. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad with this episodes plot doing a very good job of setting up the mystery of who killed Jon Arryn and giving us a really good look at who these characters really were before the Game Of Thrones started with the plot of episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Sean Bean as Lord Eddard Stark , Mark Addy as King Robert Baratheon and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Ser Jaime Lannister. Also starring in this episode is Michelle Fairley as Lady Catelyn Stark , Lena Headey as Queen Cersei Lannister , Emilia Clarke as Princess Daenerys Targaryen , Iain Glen as Ser Jorah Mormont , Harry Lloyd as Prince Viserys Targaryen , Kit Harington as Jon Snow , Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark , Maisie Williams as Arya Stark , Richard Madden as Robb Stark , Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy , Isaac Hempstead-Wright as Bran Stark , Batman Begins star Jack Gleeson as Prince Joffrey Baratheon , Rory McCann as Sandor Clegane , Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister , Donald Sumpter as Maester Luwin , Jamie Sives as Jory Cassel , Ron Donachie as Rodrik Cassel , Joseph Mawle as Benjen Stark , Roger Allam as Illyrio Mopatis , Dar Salim as Qotho , Esmé Bianco as Ros , Susan Brown as Mordane , Bronson Webb as Will , Sir John Standing as Jon Arryn , Rob Ostlere as Waymar Royce , Dermot Keaney as Gared , Art Parkinson as Rickon Stark , Callum Wharry as Tommen Baratheon , Aimee Richardson as Myrcella Baratheon , Kristian Nairn as Hodor and Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With all of this episodes cast turning some really good performances in this episode which really isn't all that surprising as alot of this episodes cast is made up of a bunch of really good actors who know how to turn in a good performance with alot of this episodes cast members really nailing there characters in this first episode alone which is a rare thing to do indeed however and what helps the acting in this episode is the fact that the episodes script is just so good that all the cast have to do is really just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them really naturally.

Doing the CGI for this episode is BlueBolt , Screen Scene and the legends and the greats that are currently over at Pixomondo. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time it's wasn't all that good either not that it was bad far from it but the CGI in this episode really hasn't aged all that well with the episode really only using CGI to extend certain sets which is how CGI should be used as all your doing in enhancing what was already there on the day but on the flip side of that is the fact that because your really not spending alot whole lot of money on this episodes CGI it does tend age alot quicker then the more expensive looking episodes of the show.

What was truly shocking was seeing just how many storylines that this one episode either sets up or foreshadows. With the episode foreshadowing the fact that Bran will never be able to climb or even walk again and the fact that Daenerys has dragon blood running through her veins amongst several other storylines all of which are handled in a very subtle way something which the show would loose as we got near the end of the shows run and it was something that was truly shocking to see in this episode as it does go to show you that the makers of this show really did have a plan at the very least for this first season and it's good example of how good this show really was as alot of the foreshadowing done in this episode is something that us the audience really wouldn't notice on the first viewing of the episode and it just goes to show that when the writers of this want to be subtle and want to turn in a good script they really can do it when they well and truly really want to.

There are some issues that this episode does have and that's the fact that alot of who would become the main characters in this first season aren't really given enough time to display much of what there personalities are. Which is understandable as the show is not only one hour long per most of the episodes but is also ten episodes and as such it would be foolish to get across what there personality is like in the first episode as the shows several other episodes to get all of that across the other issue in this episode is the fact that the Starks are the main characters of the episode and to be frank at least in this episode there not the most interesting of characters while yes they do get more fully fleshed out as the season goes on and the books does start of with them as well there are other more interesting characters like for example the whole royal family that would have made for better main characters in your debut episode.

The version of Daenerys that we get n this episode is the version that we should have gotten in the shows final season. As this take on Daenerys is more then strong enough to last throughout the whole entire show as we see that while she is yes a little naive when it comes to how the world of the Dothraki works that is something we see her overcome over the course of this first season we see her learning and growing as a character something which is started in this episode and yet the version of the character we get in the final season just burns down anything and anyone that disagrees with her more often then not it's just because that she could and not because that she's improved as a character where as if the makers of this episode had stuck with her character progression then she would have taken meeting with the other rulers to get what she wants something which she does learn about during the shows early seasons and that is something that she starts to learn n this episode when she learns all about the Dothraki and there ways.

Now then while I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember whatever this episodes grand total running time even was I do know that this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of roughly fifty nine minuets. Which is a bit of perfect running time for this episode to have as the episode really does have more then enough there interms of plot to cover that large amount of running time however at the flip side of things this episode really could have benefited from having just a slightly longer running time just so that the episode could start to fully flesh out some of it's other characters and give more of it's main characters a chance t show us the audience what there respective personalities are even meant to be but I will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. However on the flip side the action that we get in this episode isn't all that good either as we don't get the chance to see alot of this episodes action due to the fact that the episode cuts away from it and what little action that we do get in this episode is mostly played for laughs and doesn't really add anything to the plot of the episode which does make sense given that this is the first episode in the series but at the same time in your first episode you really do expect to see some really good action in that episode something which this episode really does in someway fail to give us in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this one episode is a really good example of just how good this show was as it's an episode that more holds up well over ten years later as it really is such a good episode that really is well written and acted and in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all bad the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the mages that I personally used in this very review from the official Game Of Thrones fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get the images from these very episode that I used in this very review being the great and legendary the official Game Of Thrones fandom wiki page simply just due to the fact that really alot of if not all of the images that are really from this episode and are of course on the official Game Of Thrones fandom wiki page are really all fairly high in quality and as well as them all being really fairly freaking high in definition.
