Unikitty TV Series "Spoooooky Game" Review

Cartoon fans you might not know this but when the first Lego Movie first came out I loved the character of Unikitty so much so that I was happy when it was announced that she was getting her own animated TV show. As such I thought that it was about time that I take a look at the very first episode to air from the show which since we are a little over a week until Halloween arrives it's only fitting that the first episode to air was a halloween episode and so here is my review of the first to air from the Unikitty TV series with the episode being called "Spoooooky Game" enjoy the review.

The plot of the episode is Unikitty and her friends get a spooky game also called Spooky Game to play for game night but when they are all transported inside the game they have to complete the game in order to escape with the loses being trapped in the game forever. Yeah to say that the main plot of this episodes sounds alot like Jumanji would be a huge understatement but with that said for a ten nearly eleven minuet cartoon the story was decent and pretty goofy but in a good way since this show is known for it's goofy stories and so it makes sense that the first episode to air for this show feature a pretty goofy plot and not one that took itself far to seriously.

Starring in the episode is Voice acting great Tara Strong as Unikitty , Grey Griffin as Puppycorn and Roger Craig Smith as Hawkodile , Richard and The Sore Creeper. Also starring in the episode are Kate Micucci as Dr. Fox and that's it for who's in this episode I honestly admit that I thought that there was a long cast list for this episode and so to see the cast list for the episode is pretty small is honestly refreshing to see in my opinion.

In terms of what I thought about the acting in the episode given that alot of the actors and by alot I mean all of the actors in this episode are great voice actors it should come as no surprise that the voice acting in this episode is really good. All of the actors in this episode I feel are generally having a fun time recording the episode just because they get to be silly and goofy and it really does show in there performances as such you get sucked in by how much fun the actors are having recording there lines and in the end you yourself have alot of fun just listening to the voice actors as well as watching the actual episode itself.

Doing the animation not only for this episode but for the show as a whole is Snipple Animation don't worry if you haven't heard of them because I haven't heard of them either. Which is most likely a good thing since the animation in this episode really isn't that good but it's also not that bad either. The main issue that I have with the animation is that the characters designs don't really allow for that many expressions and so alot of the time the characters just have these blank expressions on there faces and you the viewer are struggling to work out what kind of emotion there expressing.

This is the issue that you have when you design your characters to look like they were made out of Lego since Lego bricks don't have any expressions. As such I do feel that the team behind this show should have changed the designs of the characters just so they could get more expressions out of them. Not helping things is the fact that due to the characters designs all of the movements feel weird which for a fantasy show like this is the right approach but the same time the animation on the characters still has to look good and the movements have to make some kind of sense in the world of the show or even to the people watching the show.

One of the things that really bugged me about this episode is the fact The Sore Creeper has Unikitty , Puppycorn , Dr. Fox and Hawkodile race through a corn maze and yet the makers of the show have Unikitty flying. As such Unikitty could very easily have won that competition due to the fact that's she flying and all the others are running honestly if the show makers wanted to make the games seem more fair then they should have had Unikitty running throughout the whole game and not just the final two portions of the game.

I will give the episode this it can get pretty creative at times i'm not going to say when those times are but if you've seen the episode then you'll know exactly what I mean and yes one of those times is the ending. To me the ending twist is something that you would see in a decent episode of the 1959 TV series version of The Twilight Zone because it is that well done even for a kids animated TV show and it's a twist that I honestly never saw coming.

As mentioned this episode is ten nearly eleven minuets long hell it's so close to being eleven minuets that you might as well say it's eleven minuets since the official running time is ten minuets and fifty nine seconds. Which I feel is just the right amount of time for this episode since there's not really enough story to cover anything longer then that eleven minuet running time and if they did go for anything longer then that then you know it would just be used as filler for the episode and would add nothing to the actual story of the episode.

Now then since this an animated show that's quite clearly aimed at little kids I have to assume that it's meant to be a comedy which means that I have to talk about the jokes that are in the show. To which I can't really be that hard on the show for it's lack of jokes since like I just said the show is aimed at little kids and so even tho I personally didn't find the episode to be that funny chances are the kid target audience might have found the show to be hilarious.

Overall I can't really be that hard on the show since like i've said it's a show made with little kids in mind and so I feel that they would get more enjoyment out of it. That being said tho this is a pretty average show and it's such a shame that the show got cancelled since this show is honestly a really fun show and this episode is a great example of that fact as such tho this episode gets a 5.5 out of 10 from me.

All of the images that I used in this review were gathered from either Google Images or the official Unikitty TV Series fandom wiki page. Since I got the vast majority of the images from the official Unikitty TV series fandom wiki page I have no choice but to recommend that you use the official Unikitty TV series fandom wiki page since not only are the images on the official Unikitty TV series fandom wiki page really high quality which for me at least is a very important thing when creating a review there's also a lot more verity of images from all of the episodes.
