Cartoon fans as you may have guessed by now i love to talk about shows that others aren't talking about and that's the very case with this review because today i will be reviewing Dorothy And The Wizard Of Oz.
The general plot of the show follows Dorothy , The Tin-man and the rest of the crew now including Queen Ozma as they go on various adventures around Oz usually trying to defeat the Wicked Witch's evil spoiled niece Wilhelmina. I would like to say that this show is more based on the 1939 film that it is the actual book and i kinda don't like that since it then creates problems since they don't explain why Dorothy is back in Oz or why she's now looking like an eight year old.
The voice cast includes Kari Wahlgren as both Dorothy ans Ozma , Jess Harnell as Lion , J. P. Karliak as Tin-Man , Bill Fagerbakke as Scarecrow , Jessica DiCicco as Wilhelmina and Laraine Newman as Wicked Witch. The voice cast for me are shockingly good and i say that because i wasn't expecting the acting to be that good when i first heard of this show the few actors that really stand out to me are Kari Wahlgren who provides two very distinct voices to her characters and Jess Harnell who sounds so much like the actor from the original film.
Now before i mention the animation i have to say that this firmly a kids show and i mean it's a show for very little kids so the animation isn't that good you can tell there's love for the original movie but there's no passion for this show coming through if anything it feels like a rush job and that's not a good thing.
Now i briefly mentioned this at the start but for some reason they made Dorothy eight years old they don't really mention her age in the show but all you have to do is look at her design and you can work out her age and the same goes for Wilhelmina and Ozma but i do have to say that the character designs aren't that bad for the most part they look like the original actors except for as i mentioned Dorothy and i like the look of new character Wilhelmina even tho she basically looks like an eight year old goth girl.
This is a kids show (i think i've mentioned that) so the jokes are about what you'd expect from a show aimed at little kids but that doesn't mean there's not the odd funny line or two i'm not kidding i laughed a few times during a few episodes but not all of the jokes landed for me personally and thank god i've not seen a fart joke in this series altho i have to say that they made Ozma a bit two dumb for my liking.
Now if your a fan of the original movie then you might like the shows opening theme which i believe to be a version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" but i could be mistaken with that tho but i do think that composer Sunna Wehrmeijer does do an ok job with the music.
Overall i'd say that if you have very young kids or you have a young niece or nephew then there's no harm in showing them this cartoon and the show has been picked up for a second season for me tho the show is a 5.5 out of 10 and if you want to watch it it's on the Boomerang app.
