Worzel Gummidge "Worzel's Washing Day" Review

To say that i'm a fan of Worzel Gummidge would be a huge understatement since after about a week of waiting i've finally been able the latest DVD release. What makes this release standout is that it contains all of the episodes plus the christmas special have been restored and well I just had to get my hands on this release and so then join me as I review the episode that brought a talking scarecrow to life with the episode in question being called simply just "Worzel's Washing Day" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when a brother and sister discover that some laundry has gone missing it's up to the duo to find it before the culprit a talking scarecrow gets away. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really very good with this episodes plot also being very entertaining and very engaging indeed in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Doctor Who star Jon Pertwee as Worzel Gummidge , Jeremy Austin as John Peters and Steptoe And Son Ride Again star Geoffrey Bayldon as The Crowman. Also starring in this episode is Are You Being Served star Mike Berry as Mr. Peters , Norman Bird as Mr. Braithwaite , Charlotte Coleman as Sue Peters , Denis Gilmore as Harry , Megs Jenkins as Mrs. Braithwaite and Norman Mitchell as P.C. Parsons.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With all of this episodes cast turning in some really good performances even the child actors manage to not only turn in some good performances but they also come as being rather likable and not annoying.

Since this review is being based of off the recent new transfer I want to talk about the image quality which I feel is a huge step up from all of the previous DVD releases. With this new releases having a much more brighter image which does have it's pluses as well as it set backs with this new transfer showing us more of Jon Pertwee's performance thus getting a bit more of a laugh out of people but on the flip side of that it does give the characters an overall wax type of look as well as giving the characters an orange skin color in some scenes as well.

This show did have alot of rather scary scenes in it and that is something that started in this episode with this episodes containing quite a few jump scares. With the scene where we first see Worzel come to life and walk being the scariest scene in this episode heck even actor Jeremy Austin said that producer and director James Hill perhaps made the scene a little bit to scary which I do kind of agree with but at the same time kids do like to be scared and having a scary scene in what is a child friendly series really does really make this scene feel a little bit less scary that what it actually is in this very episode.

This episode also does a good job of making Worzel seem like a villain as well as being a troublemaker especially when compared to the rest of the show. Since from a certain point of view Worzel could be seen as a villain with him running amuck in the lock village and causing mayhem wherever he goes and that is something that a villain would do and yet because we see him from the point of view of the kids we see him turn more and more into someone who just can't help but get himself into trouble and that is an interesting thing to see not only in this series but in this episode as well.

No kids TV show that i've seen has had the courage to have it's main character be beheaded in the first episode.  Yet this show does it and not only that they have it be a key plot point in the episode and not only that they let it sit with you for a while and don't end the scene on a joke either and how this episode handles that scene works really well since we get some great stunt work from stuntman Terry Welsh but we also see Worzel fall apart as he falls down a rubbish pile which just sells you on the fact that Worzel is a scarecrow and could therefor die at anytime during this show.

Now then while I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember whatever this episodes running time even was I do know that this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of roughly twenty four minuets and forty seconds. Which I really do think was the best amount of time for this episode to last since this episode didn't really have all that much ti set up and to introduce and it helps that this episode has more then enough story to cover that amount of running time and as such all of the episodes are all about advancing the overall plot of the episode which helps with this episodes pacing which really does make the episode just fly by.

So now then since this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With this episode having some good laughs init however at the same time tho this episode isn't as funny as it perhaps could have been in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this is a great episode to start this series of off with since it has all of the things that this would become known for and it does them with such style and fun that it makes it infectious in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that means that this very episode earns itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Amazon . Co . Uk , Wikipedia and Google Images. With my personally preferred website that I personally preferred to use to get the images that I personally used in this very review being the wonderful Google Images since all of the images that are currently up and and featured / presented to us on Google Images are all fairly high in quality and as well as being really fairly freaking high in definition.
