Pokemon The Movie: I Choose You Review

Now then anime fans when i was a little lad like i'm sure most of you were i was a fan of Pokemon i collected the cards , played the games , watched the TV show and watched a few of the movies and it's hard to believe that we are now at Movie 20 for this franchise so how did this anniversary do lets find out.

The plot of the movie is basically that of the first episode mixed in with the fact that Ash and Pikachu want to find the legendary bird Ho-Oh. That's really all there is to the plot now i would say that's all you really need but to be honest if your retelling most of the first season there has to be something that connects all the scenes together and here the story is so thin it's almost hard to see.

Reprising their roles in the english dub are Sarah Natochenny (sadly not Veronica Taylor Ash's first voice actress) and Ikue Ōtani. I can honestly say that these two are pretty good in the movie altho i have to say that Sarah doesn't sound like a ten year old boy she sounds like a teenager at this point. Those two are joined by David Oliver Nelson and Suzy Myers who are pretty much playing Brock and Misty clones and honestly there fine in the movie that's really all i can say about them since the movie doesn't give you the time to care for them.

Animation wise you can tell that alot of effort went into it and it really does show this film is really well animated it's certainly better animated then the first series was but that's to be expected since the team are now more confident in what they can do plus everything looks so beautiful as well.

What i didn't like about this movie was the fact that it rushes through big plot points the whole first episode is done with in less then nine minuets and that includes the whole bird attack which is pivotal to the show all of the major moments that worked in the series worked because we were given time to connect with the characters here tho it doesn't work because the movie is more interested in rushing through scenes rather then letting us get to know the characters.

I do have to say that i am glad that the english language version of the film does use a cover version of the original theme song yes it's a terrible cover but i'm so glad that they used that song since to me that songs is a huge part of the franchise.

Overall if your a Pokemon fan then you might like this just be ah were that alot of things get changed for me tho this movie is a 7 out of 10.
