A Game Of Thrones Comics Review

Since Game Of Thrones is due to air it's final season next year (yes you can expect a review of the finale btw) I thought i'd take a look at something that perhaps not alot of people know about and that's the Game Of Thrones comic book series starting with the adaptation of the first book A Game Of Thrones.

Even tho this is an adaptation of the first book's story it's a shockingly faithful adaptation and for those who havn't read the first book or seen the show the plot of that first book and this adaptation is several noble houses fight a civil war over who should be king while an exiled princess tries to find her place in the world and the kingdom is threatened by some rising supernatural threat in the north. Boom. I know that doesn't even scratch the surface but that's the best summery I could find and I do have to say that while I do praise the comic for sticking close to the books storyline I personally would have preferred it if they also added in some scenes.

The art for the book was done by Tommy Patterson who's mostly worked on the Grimm Fairy Tales comic book series and I have to say that I really enjoyed his artwork on this series he really did a good job of making this fantasy tale fit in with the comic book medium but tho I do have to say there are some scenes near the end of the series were Daenerys looks like an anime character which does go against the visual look this book is going for.

The biggest issue I have with this series is that it's only twenty four issues long and that's not enough for a story and world this rich and epic and because of how short the series is alot of key scenes from the book aren't in this series we don't get to see Robert and Ned's banter just after Robert arrives at Winterfell and alot of the stuff with Viserys while present is cut down and that's to name but a few of the scenes that didn't make the cut.

All of the characters from the show are present and correct but tho we now sadly cannot skip the boring chapters which means for the first time in a long time I had to read Jon Snow's scenes and I have to say I was impressed with this book handled him since he is one of the franchises most popular characters I thought they would have made him look like this goody goody good guy who can do know wrong but no they actually present him as a real person who does make mistakes.

What really shocked me was this book took three years to fully publish and I have no idea why that was the story was already there in book form and so where the characters so all they had to do pretty much was just put this series out there but perhaps they were taking there time because of how successful the show was and thus wanted to make sure they got it just right.

The show is famous not only for having great writing , acting and visual effects but for also being very bloody / violent among other things and I have to say apart from one scene with Tyrion that was for some reason cut from this series this book is very freaking violent when you get to the horse heart scene you see some of the veins in the heart.

In all honesty when we got to a certain famous scenes with Ned I really thought they would go all out with the gore but they really subtle with how they did it literally my only issue with that scene is the fact it's in issue 21 and the fact they spoil it on the freaking cover. If I was writing this series I would have had that scene take place in either issue twenty two or twenty three just because there's not much story after we get to that point and I wouldn't have had that scene be on the cover for that issue that's just bad marketing right there.

The book is famous for having pages upon pages of descriptions and characters thoughts well since this is a comic book we don't need to hear how things look as for the inner thoughts of characters they are actually present in the book as little boxes and I thought it was cool that the makers of this book would include that little detail since they didn't really have to that at all.

Overall this was a pretty good series like I said before I wish that it was longer since that would served the story better and as you can tell by the picture they are also adapting A Clash Of Kings which as of this writing is only nine issues in so I give A Game Of Thrones a solid 9 out of 10.
