The Flash 2014 TV Series "Pilot" Review

With a slew of superheroes getting there own movies these days it's hard to imagine a time where they only appeared on TV. Which is actually the case the episode that i'm going to be reviewing for you all today as while yes granted The Flash did later get his own big budget movie to quote Green Lantern from Teen Titans Go To The Movies "we don't talk about it" with this episode proving that this character can be done and done right if you have the right people working on it and so then join me as I review the episode that has a totally original title with the episode in question being called simply just "Pilot" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when a man who can control the weather starts to commit crimes in Central City a new hero must emerge to stop him before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad at the very least interms of pilot episodes as this episode does have alot of things to set up and still tell a good story and while the plot might be a little bit on the weaker side of things when compared to later episodes of this show considering that this was the first episode of the show then the plot was about as good as it was ever going to be and while yes granted the shows plots especially in this first season would get alot more better that doesn't mean that this episodes plot isn't good with only a few very minor issues in regards to the plot like the fact that as was mentioned it is pretty weak with it also being something that's not really all that focused on all that much which is most likely a result of the episode having so many things to do that there just wasn't enough time left over to focus on the plot of the episode this does have the adverse effect of making this episodes plot feel alot more like an afterthought rather then something that was it's main focus with this being something that would have been very easily fixed in the edit for the episode for the episode and yet no one who was making this show thought to bring up this point as you should always lead with your best foot forward and this episodes plot the best one that they more then likely could have gone with with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Grant Gustin as Barry Allen , Candice Patton as Iris West and Danielle Panabaker as Dr. Caitlin Snow. Also starring in this episode is Rick Cosnett as Detective Eddie Thawne , Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon , Tom Cavanagh as Dr. Harrison Wells , Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West , Michelle Harrison as Nora Allen , Chad Rook as Clyde Mardon , Patrick Sabongui as Captain David Singh , Al Sapienza as Detective Fred Chyre , John Wesley Shipp as Dr. Henry Allen and Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen / The Arrow.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in al honesty not that bad. As just like with the plot this episodes acting is about as good as it was ever going to get with the fact that's a pilot episode and those typically don't have good acting in them as the episodes main actors are still trying to find there respective characters and while this episode much like the rest of the show does have some decent acting in it with a special shout out going to Tom Cavanagh who is equal parts creepy and charming at the exact same time it would have been foolish to expect this episode to have the kind of acting that you get in later episodes of a show and while this episodes acting does get alot more better as the episode goes on there are still moments where you can tell that they didn't have enough time to do a second take as the acting would appear wooden with the best actor in this whole entire episode being Grant Gustin who simply is Barry Allen with him managing to capture the charm and warmth of the character from the comics and yet still make the character his own and heck when it was announced that The Flash was getting a movie many people wanted him to play the role as he's just so good as the character something that does prove over and over again in this show and in this episode with this episode acting really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so good that all this episodes actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come only of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode. 

Doing the CGI for this episode is the legends and the really greats that really are currently over at BOT VFX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us un this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as while yes The CW does have a habit of having really bad CGI in alot of their shows with this one being of no exception to that rule here there are also some pretty decent looking effects for the time thrown in there as well with the particle accelerator explosion looking really good even for the fact that this episodes effects where made on a TV show budget and that they didn't usually have a quick turn around time but even with all of that mind there are still some pretty bad lookin effects thrown in there as well as the fog effects that the villain of this episode uses whilst they do look decent there also effects that have aged horribly as well with the same thing also being used for the effects on the opening of the secret door as they just look so fake and cartoony that it was hard to take them seriously in this live action setting and while yes with a TV show you do have spread your effects budget across several episodes and so you can't have good looking effects all of the time in every single episode this is something that really should have been taken into account given the fact that this was always going to be a very effects heavy show and yet because it wasn't and because of the fact that the effects budget for this show was so small it does mean that for as many good effects in this episode that we do get we also get several equally bad looking effects in this episode as well. 

This episodes villain Clyde Mardon does make for a decent enough first villain for Barry Allen and the team to come up against. As while he won't ever be as threatening and as tough as some of there later villains he is threatening and strong enough to be the first villain of a TV show as the character is the kind of character that would only work in a very early episode of the show as that's when the hero is going to be tested the least due the fact that there just getting their powers and with Clyde pretty much just being a bank robber and really nothing more then that he doesn't really need to be a really strong and threatening villain as all he needs to do is be a passable villain and that's exactly what he is he's passable and while yes it might have helped the show if they did have a slightly more stronger villain like for example Captain Boomerang as then we could get to see if Barry really does have what it takes to be a hero where as here the only thing that he has to do is a create a circle and that's really it which again is fine for the first episode of the show and given just how weak of a villain that Clyde is in the first place it does make alot of sense that Barry wouldn't have to do all that much work to take him down but at the same time tho much like with the plot you do want to lead with your best foot forward and what better way to do that then to give Barry a villain that will actually test him and make him question if he actually has what it takes to be a hero ad while Captain Boomerang might not always do that he is a stronger villain and one that's also alot more well known on top of that then what Clyde Mardon is or ever will be on top of all that.

There was one thing about the scene where Barry gets his powers that really bugged me and that's the fact that for no reason whatsoever even tho he knows that this potentially very dangerous thing has just gone of and if causing lightening to form above him. Barry still things that's wise not only to stand directly beneath it but to also hold on to some chains as it strikes him this wouldn't be an issue if the makers of this episode added in a line to explain what he was even doing over there in the first place and what he was doing holding those chains in the first place but they don't and there for it looks like that Barry stood where that lightening was going to hit because of the fact that he just wanted to get hit by lightening and he was holding those chains for no good reason which if that is the case then it makes Barry look a little less smart then what we know him to be and while this is a very minor nitpick as his origin was still pretty well done with the makers of the episode even taking the time to show us the audience things that could potentially help the electricity from the lightening bolt reach him in the first place it's that one little nitpick that undoes alot of that good work as up until that point the writing from a setting things up point of view was handled really well and yet it felt like that they had to get t the scene with him being hit by lightening as fast as possible and so they just had him act weirdly out of character seemingly for no reason whatsoever when it would have made more sense to have his work bench be directly underneath where the lightening hits him as then you don't have to explain why he was stood there as you could just say that he was stood because he was busy working away on something at the time of the accident and that's really it.

While this show does have a pretty weak villain what it doesn't have is weak side characters as this episode does spend alot of it's running time also setting up the shows side characters as well as it's main character. While yes Barry will always be the main character of this show as the show is quite literally named after his alter ego that doesn't mean that the side characters get short changed as they don't with all of them getting there own moments to shine all throughout the episode and while yes none f this episodes characters are that well developed that is something that's only natural as this is the first episode and therefor of course none of the episodes characters are going to be that well developed but at the same time tho for characters like Joe who's outburst at Barry does come out of nowhere it would have been to see that tension build up within him all throughout the episode as then it would have felt more natural that he would snap at Barry when he things that Barry's gone to far but due to what we see in the episode it is something that does come out nowhere as does the fact that Wells knows alot more about Barry Allen then what he's letting on as while it is a great twist that he's from the future there still should have been something in his dialog that makes you question just what his true motives are in the first place with both Cisco and Caitlin being pretty much as well formed as they were ever going to be in this episode with both of them making an effort to befriend Barry and Iris is just there to be the love interest in this episode with her character being so pointless to the plot of the episode that she could have been removed from the episode entirely and nothing would have been missed which does make it feel like that she was only added into the episode because of the fact that she was in the comics and not because she had an active role to play in the plot of the episode.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running tome of exactly forty for minuets and thirty three seconds. Which is pretty much the exact grand total running for an episode of this show to have with this episode having the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time the issue is is that not only does this episode not really use it's running time all that wisely bey developing it's plot and characters all that well but that it does feel like that it's trying to do to much as it has so much more stuff to set up like it's has Barry and his origin has to introduce all of the side characters as well as the plot of the season and yet still tell a good plot in it's first episode and it's can't do all of that with it's current running time and as a result of that is the fact that the plot can't be developed all that much as it has to set up Barry as a believable character and it can't set up the rest of the side characters because of the fact that it has it's own story to tell with these issues being ones that could have been fixed if the episode was an hour long as then it could have done all of those things then some if it had the longer running time that it really did need and yet because it doesn't it does mean that the episode as a whole does suffer because of it as now nothing gets the chance to be that developed and heck if the makers of this show did want to set up alot of things in this episode then what they should have done is held off on introducing things like Iris and even the main plot of the show until the next episode and just focus on setting Barry and some of the side characters and in telling a good story and that's really all they'd have do to do but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho. 

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presentwd to us in this very episode well then in all honesty i in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With this episodes action mainly being Barry running to form a circle around Clyde and that's really it and while yes there is technically a car chase scene around the middle of the episode they both seem oddly tame for a superhero show which in this case is something that does work from a storytelling perspective as Barry is just figuring out his powers in this episode and so he's of course not going to know what it is that the can do with them and he's of course not going to know that he can hit someone really fast because he's not been put into a situation where he would need to know all of that information and with that in mind this episodes action is alot more better then what it really had any right to be as it gives us a chance to see Barry use his brain instead of his brawn and seeing him figuring out a solution to defeating Clyde Mardon for good does make for an entertaining scene as it is something that this character would do and it's something that sets this character apart from say Batman or Superman for example both of whom use there brawn instead of their brain but at the same time tho it would have helped this episode out a little bit bit if it's action was alot more entertaining to watch because as things are it's action does seem like it's on the weaker side of things in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

Overall whilst this show might have gone downhill as the seasons went on this is still a really good episode of the show as it gives us a really good representation of just who not only The Flash is but also who Barry Allen is as well something that THAT live action movie just couldn't do as that movie was more focused on spectacle then storytelling where here in this epsiode it's the opposite that's true in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now the i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out 10 from me.

Beetlejuice "Bad Neighbor Beetlejuice" And "Campfire Ghouls" Review

It's been a good while since an episode of Beetlejuice: The Animated Series was covered by me and as you can no doubt all work out i'm actually really enjoying this show. With this show being just as fresh and as funny as not only the two live action movies but also shows like The Addams Family and The Real Ghostbusters as well with the episodes that i'm going to review for you all today being just a good example of how smart this shows humor really was and so then join me as I review the episodes that sees Beetlejuice , Lydia , Bertha and Prudence go camping with the episodes in question being called simply just "Bad Neighbor Beetlejuice" and "Campfire Ghouls" enjoy.

The plot of "Bad Neighbor Beetlejuice" is when Beetlejuice finds himself being kicked out of his house by his neighbors he has to do everything that he can do to prove that he's a good neighbor and in "Campfire Ghouls" Beetlejuice under the disguise of Betty Juice goes camping in the neither world with Lydia , Bertha and Prudence. Now then interms of what I actually thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty pers0onally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad with "Bad Neighbor Beetlejuice" having the more stronger of the two plots as the plot for this episodes second segment "Campfire Ghouls" was a little bit on the weak ide and was ore of an excuse for the show to have some clever word play and really nothing more then that whereas with the first segment there was at the vert least some effort put into telling a more decent storyline albeit one that does feel a bit tame not only for this shoe but for this franchise as a whole as we know that thanks to not only the movies but the over episodes in this show that this show can have some pretty out there plots and yet the plot for "Bad Neighbor Beetlejuice" felt like that it was playing things far to safe for it's own good and yet the plot of this episodes second segment was barely there alot of the time so much so that it did feel like things where just happening for random reasons and not because of the fact that they added anything to the actual plot of the segment with the plots also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Stephen Ouimette as Beetlejuice / Betty Juice and X-Men: The Animated Series star Alyson Court as Lydia Deetz. Also starring in this episode is Charles Kerr as Jacques LaLean , Powerpuff Girls Z and Star Wars: Ewoks star Tabitha St. Germain as Ginger and Prudence , Len Carlson as The Monster Across The Street , Susan Roman as Poopsie and My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic and voice acting legend Tara Strong as Bertha.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With all of this episodes actors turning in some really good performances which is something that really does make alot of sense as alot of the actors that are in this episode are a bunch of really good actors in there own with one of them later going on to become a voice acting legend in her own right as well with it being really hard to tell which segment had the better acting in it as while the set up for "Bad Neighbor Beetlejuice" wouldn't usually allow for good acting that's exactly what we got from all of the actors that are in that segment where as in the episodes second segment the basic premise of the segment again doesn't usually allow for good acting and yet again that's exactly what we got with al four of that segments main leads turning in some really good performances and heck it was even hard to say just which actor was the best actor in this episode from a performance point of view but if push come to shove the best actor in this episode is Stephen Ouimette as Beetlejuice / Betty Juice as he really does manage to capture the spirit of Michael Keaton's take on the character whilst also making it own as well with the acting that's in this episode really being helped by the fact that the scripts for this episode are just so good that all this episodes actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall qwuality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Doing the animation for this episode is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Nelvana and Wang Film Productions Company. Now then interms of what U personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us un this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good with both of this episodes segments having some really good animation to them with the neither world forest looking beautifully creepy and really well detailed while the neighborhood where Beetlejuice lives looks suitably weird and out there both of which are perfect not only for the character of Beetlejuice himself but also for this world as you can very well imagine all of these weird and wonderful things taking place in a world where there are no rules and that's exactly the case with the animation in this episode as due to the more looney and zany nature of the show the animation itself can be more looney and zany as that is something that would not only fit in with this world and these characters but would also suit these otherworldly characters who are also pretty looney and zany with it being that fine attention to detail that des make this episodes animation standout from all of the other pieces of animation from similar shows as it would have been very easy to ground this show in some from of reality as that would have helped the animators out quite alot but it's also something that would go against Beetlejuice as a character as he is someone who can do anything and who can be as zany as he wants to be and therefor the animation in not only this show but this episode as well should really reflect that.

Believe it or not but "Bad Neighbor Beetlejuice" is actually one of if not the first segment of the show where Lydia Deetz doesn't actually play that big of a role in an episode. With the character only appearing a handful of times to give Beetlejuice advice on how to win his neighbors back advice which he does of course get wrong and only ends up making matters worse for himself but it is something that does show that you don't really need to have Lydia appear in every single episode of the show as the show has more then enough power to work without her character being in every single episode of the show and while that is something that might make the fans of the movies angry it is something that does work as is the case with this episodes first segment as you barely miss the character due to the fact that us the audience are more entertained with seeing Beetlejuice make things worse for himself and while the episode does explain why she's not in this episode all that much with her doing her homework for school something which does make alot of sense as this version of the character would act like that with the best comparison for this segment being if The Real Ghostbusters did an episode that didn't feature Slimer as while yes he is a big part of the show depending on the episode you'd be busy being entertained by the antics of the Ghostbusters to even realise that he's not been on screen with that being how it is with Lydia in this episode but at the same time tho the episode does cut back to her alot of the time with her even helping out with the resolution of the story as well which is something that does lessen the fact that the she's not a big part of this segments story as the story was doing just fine without her in it.

While "Campfire Ghouls" is quite easily the weaker of this episodes two segments it to does give us something that we hadn't seen in this franchise up until this point. With that being the fact that we get see human characters other then Lydia enter the Neither World something that we only saw saw twice in both of the live action movies and something that was rarely done in this show and it's something that does work really well as it does allow for some rather unique interactions with characters who are just coming across this world and are just visiting this world for the first time ad while this segment does take as full advantage of that idea as it possibly could have done it still doesn't have that much fun with it as it would have been fun to see both Prudence and Bertha actually struggle to to Lydia and Betty Juice after they get lost late into the third act of the story as then we could have seen them learn how to overcome the monsters of that world on their own instead of it coming out of nowhere like it does in the final cut of the episode but at the same time given the fact that this episode is made up of two segments you do have to make cuts to the episode to make them fit within a certain running time and as much as it would have been to see those characters taking on the creatures from the Neither World it also would have been a bit repetitive seeing them get scared of those same creatures alot of the time as well and with the characters of Prudence and Bertha not being the main characters of the show it wouldn't make sense for them to be the main characters of this story when you have the shows main characters also being the main characters of the story as well.

While "Campfire Ghouls" is the more weaker of the episodes two segments it is also one of the more fun segments as well. As we do get to see some interactions that we wouldn't get to see in any other episode of the show like we get to see Prudence and Bertha both at times interact with Beetlejuice which is always going to fun as both of these characters are complete and total opposites of Beetlejuice and therefor seeing them talk to him here under the guise of Betty Juice will always be a fun thing to see however the issue is tho is that the segment on the whole won't be as fun as it really could have bee as the very idea of these four characters going camping in a world that's full to the brim with monsters and ghouls should be a really fun filled and creative episode to watch and while the segment does have alot of really creative moments in it for one reason or another it's no that fun to watch as it feels like the makers of the segment are holding themselves back from going all in and just letting loose in that segment which is something that they really could have done as it would have been fun to see the characters interact with some of the citizens from the Neither World and have Lydia try to stop them before they point out that Betty Juice is secretly Beetlejuice as that would have been in her character to do so and it would have been in the shows nature to have those citizens appear as well as that makes the Neither World feel like a big place where as here because of the fact that we don't get to see all that much of it it oddly feels alot more smaller and thus the segment feels alot less fun when compared to the episodes first segment.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty four minuets with "Bad Neighbor Beetlejuice" being twelve minutes and four seconds. With "Campfire Ghouls" being Twelve minuets and five seconds with both of these segments having some pretty decent running times as they both have the right amount of plot there to really cover there respective amounts of running time the issue is tho is that neither episode really uses there running time all that wisely as neither episode fully develops there plot enough to the point where it is justified them being as long as they are as "Campfire Ghouls" could have been around ten minuets long and nothing thats actually important to the plot of that segments would need to be cut and "Bad Neighbor Beetlejuice" is just stuck on repeat mode for alot of it's running time when it could have spent some of it's running time in showing us how Beetlejuice's neighborhood is both positively effected and negatively effected with him no longer being there something that the segment only does at the end of the segment by which point it's far to little to late with both segments not really developing there characters all that well either as we don't get to find out why both Beetlejuice and Lydia are going camping with Lydia's earth friends and while it is understandable why his neighbors want to kick him out given that they've known just how much of a bad neighbor that he is it then really begs the question of why didn't they throw Beetlejuice out earlier on in the shows run but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With the episodes second segment "Campfire Ghouls" actually having the better comedy as it had just such clever word play with things like Hedgehogs for example being taken quite literally with them being hogs made out of hedges and it's that kind of comedy that's in all of that segment with all of them landing and landing hard as it is something that does show the potential of that segment and while yes the first segment does have some really funny moments in it as well with there being an oddly placed Looney Tunes reference near the end of the segment it's the shows second segment does get alot of the bigger laughs just due to how clever that it's word play be as it shows us that in the Neither World things are taken quite literally something that we've also seen in previous episodes of the show with Beetlejuice quite literally having skeletons in his closet for example and yet here in this segment it's done with animals which does lead to some really funny moments with all of this segments jokes landing due to how clever that they are and while the previous segment does have alot of funny jokes in it with Beetlejuice also taking Lydia's advice on how to be a good neighbor quite literally it still doesn't top the word play jokes in the second segment as they really just that funny in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while The Real Ghostbusters ight be the better remembered of these two shows this episode does go along way into proving that this show was an incredibly smart show and one that shouldn't be overlooked by people and while yes the second segment is easily the weaker of the two segments the episode on the whole was still a fun and solid episode of this show in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that "Bad Neighbor Beetle" really does earn itself a grand old score of a 6 out 10 and "Campfire Ghouls" really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 with the episode as a whole really earning itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

The Inbetweeners: Caravan Club Review

Believe it or not it's actually been around three years since an episode of The Inbetweeners was last covered by me and well since I didn't want to do either of the movies. I thought that now was the absolutely right time to get back into this show as this show really is one of the funniest shows out there and does deserve alot more love and attention from people and so then join me as I review the episode that sees the boys go caravanning with the episode in question being called simply just "Caravan Club" enjoy.

The plot of this is when they become fed up of his lies Will , Neil and Simon decide to take up Jay on his offer and go to a camp site that he says is full of girls. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty just as simple and as fun as a plot like this one really should be as this is a show that really doesn't demand deep and thought provoking plots as all it needs is a simple setup and that let the characters just be their awkward selfs and that is something that does work really well for this episode as we get to see the characters just be there typical awkward selfs whilst still trying to get girls to like them with the only issue about this episodes plot being the fact that it doesn't really tie up the loose end of them catching Jay out in one of his lies as the episode does instead kind of leave it open ended which is true to the show as the show would do something like this and given that this episode was apart of the shows first series it's not that big of an issue but at the same time tho if your going to set up the possibility of the boys catching him out in an obvious lie then you should at least have a pay off for it even if it's a small one but that's a very minor issue with the episodes plot as the plot of this episode was on the whole really good and was more then up to the already high standerd of plots from the rest of this show with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Simon Bird as Will McKenzie , James Buckley as Jay Cartwright and Blake Harrison as Neil Sutherland. Also starring in this episode is Joe Thomas as Simon Cooper , Henry Lloyd-Hughes as Mark Donovan , Greg Davies as Phil Gilbert , Racheal Joseph as The Petrol Station Attendant , Clemency Hallinan as Becky , Victoria Willing as Mrs. Cartwright , David Schaal as Terry Cartwright and Suzi Battersby as The Punk Girl.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. Which is pretty typical for this how as all of this episodes main actors do indeed turn in some really good an funny performances in this episode which is something that does make sense as this episode would have most likely have been one of the last series 1 episodes to be filmed and therefor of course the acting from all of the main series actors would have been good as they would have had several other weeks to get to know there characters and turn in good performances from all of the previous episodes as well with even the episodes guest actors also turning in some really good performances with even both Victoria Willing and David Schaal going on to become series regulars as there characters from this episode with the pair of them even appearing in the The Inbetweeners Movies as well with being really hard to say just who the best actors in this episode as while David Schaal does a good job of making his character utterly unlikable James Buckley also gets the chance to shine as well as now his lies are catching up to him and he has to just try and make it look like that was telling the truth about Caravan Club all along with the acting that's in this very episode really being helped by the fact that this episodes scripts is just so good that all this episodes actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them more naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

As was just mentioned this episode does see the debut of Jay's dad Terry played brilliantly by David Schaal. With his character constantly talking to and making fun of not only his son but also his wife as well which does make him a really unlikable character as he's the kind of person will just say whatever's on his mind regardless of how other people feel about it which does make his scenes with the boys some of the most utterly entertaining scenes to watch in the episode as you never really know just what it is that he's going to say or do next but whatever it is you can sure that's entertaining to watch as his character is just that unpredictable and while this character would not fly today just due to the fact that he does throw alot of possibly abusive comments Jay's way even comparing him to a woman at several points in the episode these comments whilst they do hurt Jay they are his way of having a joke with someone and just trying to have a laugh with them yes there not that funny things to say to anyone but they do also feel oddly right for this character as you just couldn't picture this character being politically correct as that would just sap out all of the humor from the character and make feel like a one dimensional character where as here he does somewhat feel alot more three dimensional as a character as while yes he does say alot of hurtful things to Jay he also says that he doesn't mean any harm by them and that there just his way of having a joke with people and that's really it and that's something that would be lost if a character like Terry was to be created today as he would have to be politically correct just to make people on either Bluesky or X happy. 

Heck it could even be argued that Jay is the way that he is because of how his dad treats him and with Terry being one of the many people to actively call him put on his lies does make that fact even funnier. What doesn't really work tho is the fact that Jay yells at him in this episode which is something that doesn't work as it would have made more sense if that moment was saved for either a later episode of show or either of the movies as then you could have a proper build up to it and make that moment all the more impactful where as here it's just comes across as something that could be easily brushed off when given that the more realistic approach that the makers of this show had for there stories it would have been something that was brought back up and not something that was just forgotten about where as if you did it in either of the movies then firstly it could have been super funny to see Jay try to stand up to him only to get embarrassed by him again and secondly it would have been a great way to conclude that character as while the second film does indeed have Jay fight back against his uncle that moment wasn't earned as we the audience hadn't had the time to get to know his Uncle where as we have had the time to get to know his dad and while the idea of all of the male members of his family being just like his dad is funny Jay trying to punch his uncle only for it to turn into slap doesn't have the same impact as him trying to hit his Dad as we the audience know that whatever Jay had done to his dad it would have been completely justified due to the events of this series and the things that the character has said to Jay as well.

One of the best things that this episode was actually have the boys actually call out Jay for all of his lies and go the place where he says that he frequently scores with multiple women. As the character of Jay up until this point in time had been someone who would tell these kind of lies and yet would still get away with it think Stifler from the American Pie movies but British and yet here due to the fact that this show is based more on things that did happen to the creators and only writers of this show it is more believable that these characters would call him out on as they just like Jay want to become popular with girls and therefor going to the place where they've been told by none other then Jay himself is crawling with women would make them want to go there with Will even describing the situation as a win win as ether they do get with girls or they prove that Jay is a lier so either way they would win in that situation but what doesn't work is the fact that the episode for the most part does drop that aspect of it's story with none of the characters mentioning the fact that he does tell these kinds of lies alot of the time until the very end where Will and Jay get into an argument about it at the side of the road and that's really when something that was key to getting the main plot of the episode should have been given more prominence in the actual episode as you very easily could have had one of the boys mention a few times to Jay that they know that he's lieing to them only to have him think up something that he knows that they would like as that could have been a funny idea and true to his character and with Jay being the main character of the episode it is something that would have made sense given the context of the episode.

The best thing about this episode is seeing how Will , Simon and later Neil all act when they are around girls. With that being where the characters get to be there awkward themselves as Will is unsure of what to do when someone who wants to be alone with him is just straight up about it and Simon is a little bit to sure of himself and Neil is just Neil who is happy just going with the flow with it being that kind of attitude that does technically prove Jay right as there was a girl there who wanted to get with one of the boys with it being true to who they are as characters seeing how two of them just crash and burn with Will deciding to go skidding across the floor of the main common room for the caravan park and Simon being a bit to keen for his own good which does result in not only the girl in question telling her parents about what's just happened but also Simon telling the girl what Jay had said to him earlier on in the episode and just straight up telling Jay off about it near the episodes end with Neil being the only one to pull a girl which is also the same girl that tried to pull Will but at the same time Jay was also lieing threw his teeth as there was only two girls interested in two of the lads and not the whole park with the whole idea of two of the boys trying to pull a girl being more then highlight of the episode as we the audience know that at somepoint there going to mess it up as it's only a matter of time given just who these characters and yet it's still fun to see them have these interactions with the girls in question as they do seem like the type of girls that the boys would like and eventually date as well.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty two minuets and thirty eight seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for these episodes to have and to the episodes credit it really does have more then enough plot there to really cover that amount of running time and while yes granted the fact that the episodes plot isn't as fully fleshed out as it perhaps could have been this isn't a negative for this episode as the plot doesn't need to be that fleshed out in order to be good as it just needed to be simple enough for us the audience to get an idea of what's going on but then also be fun enough for it to work in a comedy setting which it was with the only real downside of this being the fact the fact that none of the characters that this episode introduces aren't that fully fleshed out as characters which is fine for the girls as they were only meant to be in this one episode and nothing more then that and it is something that does work for Terry as he's quite literally just an older version of Jay but it's something that works for Mrs. Cartwright as she not only just gets a few lines of dialog early on in the episode but due to the movie straight up showing us that she has a daughter it now makes her look like a bad parent as in this episode the daughter isn't seen nor is she mentioned and given by the size of the caravan that there staying in it doesn't look like that they had enough room for her when having her there would not only give the mother something more to do other then look disgusted at Terry whenever he leaves the bathroom but it also would have some extra dimension to her as a character as we could then get to see how she treats her daughter when compared to how she treats Jay where as here it looks like that she favors Jay over her own daughter but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well the in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With this episode much like all of the other episodes in this show and the movies as well for that matter having alot of painfully moments in it from Will skidding on the floor of the disco to him then loosing his shoes and being bullied by a bunch of eight year old kids to any of the reactions from any of the series main four actors when there sat around the table inside the caravan waiting to have there dinner there's just alot of really funny gags in this episode and all of them work because nine times out of ten there all situations that us the audience have been in thus making them more relatable with the best moment in this whole episode being at the start of the episode where we see Will at school tied to a chair with bucket on his head put done to him by the school bully Mark Donovan all for apparently no reason with none of the characters able to remove the bucket because of the fact that Donovan has told them not to do with even Mr. Gilbert himself getting in on the act when he convinces will that he tripped and fell into the bucket whilst Will was just trying to tell the truth and when he does go along with the lie all Gilbert can say is that Will is clumsy with the best being all of Donovan's reactions to when someone does try to take the bucket of Will's head all of which are painfully funny to watch with all of this episodes jokes being really funny as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this episode is just so funny and is a good example of why this show not only worked back in 2008 but still works almost twenty years later as all of the characters are relatable characters and the stories are just as relatable as well but most importantly the jokes are actually funny with this episode episode having alot of the best jokes that this show would become really known for as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.

Star Wars: Tales Of The Underworld Review

Whilst things might have stalled on the live action front when it comes to there animated output the world of Star Wars has never looked more brighter. As while we were all celebrating May the fourth Disney and Lucasfilm were busy dropping another series from there Star Wars Tales show with this one looking at the criminal underworld of the galaxy far far away and so then join me as I review the show that has a great front end but a bad back end with the show in question being called simply just "Star Wars: Tales Of The Underworld" enjoy.

The plot for for the first half of this show is Asajj Ventress and teams up with a young Jedi called Lyco Strata to find something called "The Path" whilst the plot of the second half of this show is a young  alien named Colby gets drafted into a life of crime one which sees him became known as the villain Cad Bane. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plots that are actually featured / presented to us in this very show well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that are actually featured / presented to us in this very show was in all honesty not that bad as the plot for the first half of the show was really good but at at the same time tho this shows plot for the second half of the show wasn't all that good as it wasn't all that interesting and was kind of predictable to see play out where as with the plot from the first three episodes of the show you have no idea of where the plot is going and because of that you have no idea on if the characters are going to make it out show alive or not where as due to the fact that episodes four through six of this show are prequel episodes and feature a character that we already know to be alive and well at a much more later point in the timeline it makes those stories predictable as we already know who's going to make it out alive and who isn't with the plot for those final three episodes going the exact same way that you think that they would do and because of that there are less interesting to watch as episodes as well with the plots of this show also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Which is something that's to be expected as not only are some of this show main actors also reprising their roles from other Star Wars animated shows but alot of them are also a bunch of really good actors in their right as well with there performances in this show being the best of the bunch as they would have had several years in order to perfect there performances for there respective characters and it is something that really does shine through in this show because of it and while the shows newer actors do also turn in some really good performances as well for the most alot of them do deliver certain lines a bit more wooden which makes it comes across as if there unsure of how there character would say those lines which is very sadly the case for Lane Factor as Lyco Strata as even tho his character of Lyco Strata hasn't been seen in Star Wars until now Lane does make some of his lines sound very wooden almost as if he just learnt them five minuets before he started recording them with the acting that's in this show really being helped by the fact that this shows scripts are just so good that all this shows actors have to do is just the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very show

For once it is actually hard to say just who is doing the animation for this show as there is no animation company listed anywhere online. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show was in all honesty top notch and was really good with this show animation being close to feature length film good alot of the time as that's just how good alot of this shows animation was with all of the characters having some really nice and fluid movements to them and the backgrounds being very detailed all the while still retaining the close look of Star Wars: The Clone Wars wit even some of the shows characters designs working really well with Asajj being a perfectly good example of this as her design perfectly fits in not only with the timeline in which her stories take place but also with what the character herself is going through as well with the only thing that really lets down this shows animation being the fact that they relay far to much on desert scenes which does add an air of cheapness to the shows animation quality as doing something in a vast empty space is very easy to animate and very cheap to do with this show having at the very least two of the six episodes feature a desert backdrop and while the desert does indeed look nice it is something that does make the show look very cheap to do this is despite the fact that the shows animation is of a very quality with the show being worth watching just for it's animation alone.

While there are some things that this first three episodes of this show does really well one of them sadly is not giving us alot of interesting things. Like for example in episode two "Friends" they set up the fact that Lyco Strata might turn on Asajj when he gets given an offer by one of her friends but the episode quite literally never reveals on if he does it or not when that could have added an interesting wrinkle to there whole dynamic as we know thanks to both Clone Wars and The Clone Wars what she's like as a character but we have no idea what he's like as a character and showing him willing to betray someone would add to his character a bit as well with another example oddly enough being in the very next episode "One Warrior To Another" we meet a Grandfather and his Granddaughter with it being revealed that the Grandfather knew Asajj from the Clone Wars however it's never really revealed not only what side he was on but also who he is either as that could have made for a really cool reveal and would have been a great way to give both characters some added backstory with it just making it feel like a waste of character and it's stuff like that that does let this show down quite a bit as both halves of this show have moments that could have been cool and interesting if the show was brave enough to actually follow through on them with an example from the Cad Bane story being the fact we don't get to see what happened Arin with it only being told to us when showing it would have made alot more sense and would have made those stories all the more tragic.

Out of the two stories the first one is quite easily the better one as it was the more interesting story that had alot more going for it. So much so that it's not hard to picture another animated series with Asajj and Lyco as the main characters as they work just so well to each other with them each bringing out something that the other needs with Asajj she brings out the killer instinct in Lyco and with Lyco he brings out her kindness with it being easy to see them going off and having more adventures in a future animated series whatever the plot of that series maybe and with them actually doing a spin off of Star Wars: Visions later this year who knows maybe there is room for a spin off of this show as well as those characters do have plenty of milage in them and heck it doesn't even have to be in animation as you could bring in the characters to the world of lice action and have there story continue that way something that you really can't do with Cad Bane as the types of stories that you can tell with that character are very limiting and even if you wanted to be brave and try to telling a more daring story it just wouldn't work as he's a more grounded character as he's the evil cowboy that walks into the town in every single western movie out there where as with Lyco and Asajj the stories are limitless as we have no idea where these characters could end up and while the idea of fully redeeming Asajj would go against her character as she's more cooler as the flat out bad guy having her be a bounty hunter and helping Lyco out on certain missions would be a good way to go with those characters and given that the characters do start to form a strong bond during these opening three episodes that is something that would make the most sense to do from both a storytelling and character point of view.

To be frank the only interesting thing about the Cad Bane episodes was seeing how he turned his back on his friend. Which even then when you see the set up of that final episode is something that you can see coming a mile away with even the surprise twist which i'm not going to be spoil here whilst that was a good twist it is something that they signal coming quite early on in the episode while it would be hard to say if the character of Cad Bane has been ruined thanks to this show his episodes don't really make you want to find out more about him and are purely there because of the fact that this creator and executive producer Dave Filoni co-created him and that's really it as his origins really didn't need to be reveled as it could be argued that not knowing how he became the way that he is is more scarier then actually knowing every aspect of his story as given the shows title you could have had any of the other bounty hunters or even mobsters from the Star Wars galaxy take his role and have their origins explained as that would be something that we really hadn't seen or if you really want to be creative you could have had the stories from both half of this show merge in the final episode which is something that could work as we don't really get a clear idea of when both stories take place in the Star Wars timeline but at the same time that could also risk making Star Wars fans angry as well but the point is that Bane didn't need his origins explained in this show as it tells us nothing about who he is or even was as a character.

Now then this show has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly no longer then sixteen minuets and forty seconds. With each episode being around fifteen minuets in length with the longest one being episode three which is sixteen minuets and forty seconds long which to be fair the fifteen minuet running time is a really solid running for this show to have as this show is quite literally telling two plot over the course of six episodes with the show really having more then enough plot there to cover those episodes as the Asajj plot takes up episodes one through three and the Cad Bane plot takes up episodes four through six however neither story really uses there running times all that wisely as none of the characters that the stories introduce have the time needed given to them to fully establish them as characters which is of course of no fault of the makers of this show as there working within a set timeframe but it is something that should have been fixed as some of these episodes very easily could have been twenty two minuets in length which is something that really would have helped out both stories as it would have meant that both stories would have had the extra needed to set up there characters in ways that feel organic and even adding an extra episode to either story would helped to flesh out either plot a bit more as well as the Cad Bane plot is so weak that it was hard to tell what the actual plot of that story was even meant to be until it was the start of it's third and final episode by which point it was far to little to late and the Asajj plot line is one could have been a little bit more longer as it was the more interesting of the two plots but I really will admit that this show really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show was in all honesty not that bad. With this show having alot of really good action in it however alot of the shows best action scenes do some within the first two episodes of the show as the third episode really doesn't have an action scene in it and the action in the fourth , fifth and sixth episodes just boils down to who can shoot who the quickest which is fine going for the western vibe that the Cad Bane character is meant to be going for but at the same time tho it doesn't make for all that interesting of an action scene where as in episode one we see Asajj and Lyco team up an take one one single inquisitor with him actually putting up a huge fight even getting the better of both of them for a long while which does add an element of drama to do it and while the action in the latter episodes is decent and serviceable it's also a bit repetitive and not something that you'd really want or even expect for that matter to find in something related to Star Wars with the best action in the whole show going to the fight scene in episode two as we see Asajj and Lyco take down a bunch of droids as they try to help to steal an imperial shield relay unit from a shipyard with them only just managing to make it out of that scene alive only for the person that hired them in the first place to turn on them and set there assassin droid on them which does combine to make the action in that episode the best action scene in this show as there's just alot of cool moments in it and while the action in the rest of the show is good that one in episode two is the better of the bunch in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this show is a must watch for lovers of Star Wars as while it's not as good as other Tales entries it is still a really good entry in it's own right and it's one that proves that there people still at Lucasfilm that really do know how to make good Star Wars media as you don't need a good Star Wars movie to see good Star Wars as sometime all you need is a little known animated show to show you that there is still some good Star Wars out there if your really willing to look for it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then  i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this show in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very show really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.
