Inhumans TV Series "Behold…The Inhumans!" Review

 

Marvel fans I told you yesterday that i'd back with a review of perhaps the worst pilot that i've ever seen and well as you can see by the title of this review I really did mean it. Before you all say anything no I will not be reviewing the second episode of this two art premier because this episode is bad enough I don't need to see the next one just to confirm how bad it is and so here is my review of the pilot episode to the Inhumans TV series "Behold…The Inhumans!" enjoy the review.

The plot of the episode is Trigon an Inhuman is sent to earth to rescue more people with powers and while there he is shot and killed and so his cousin Gorgon goes to earth to find out what happened meanwhile something shocking happens that will change the royal family forever. Yeah that was honestly the best that I could do because there is so little actual plot in this episode that it's unreal honestly the plot at best is weak as all hell and at worst just straight up isn't there which for any story regardless of what medium it's is always a bad thing and hell there's not even enough story to cover one episode let alone two episodes which was sadly the case for this episode.

Starring in the episode is Anson Mount as Black Bolt , Serinda Swan as Medusa and Ken Leung as Karnak. Also starring in the episode is Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon , Isabelle Cornish as Crystal , Ellen Woglom as Louise Fisher , Iwan Rheon as Maximus , Mike Moh as Triton , Sonya Balmores as Auran , Marco Rodríguez as Kitang , Tom Wright as George Ashland , Nicola Peltz as Jane , Michael Buie as King Agon , Tanya Clarke as Queen Rynda , Ari Dalbert as Bronaja , Aaron Hendry as Loyolis , Stephanie Anne Lewis as Paripan and Andra Nechita as Iridia.

Out of all the things that are wrong with this episode hell this series the acting is the least bad thing with both the series and this episode. Since the actors are clearly trying to put in a good performance and to make the script work the problem the script gives the actors nothing to work with and at times it feels like they were given bad direction and so it feels like the actors are just lost which is a shame because as we know from other projects these actors can turn in solid performances and yet here there just given nothing to work with and are given very little to no direction.

Doing the CGI for this episode is Alchemy Studios and DNegTV don't worry if you haven't heard of either I honestly haven't and given what i'm about to say that's a good thing. Since yeah the CGI in this episode is honestly pretty bad I can't say that it's out right bad because honestly it's not but the CGI you see in this episode is the kind of CGI that would be seen in a mid Playstation 3 game's cutscene which is something that should never be the case.

I give the effects team a little less hate here just because they were tasked with creating a fully CGI dog and creating good or even passable fur in CGI is always hard. On top of that it's clear to anyone with eyeballs that this show was made for as cheaply as possible and so that means that the effects houses working on this episode wouldn't have had alot to work with and I do believe that the effects houses involved with both this episode and the show in general did the best that they could.

One of the many mistakes that this series makes is that they decide to rid Medusa of her powers by giving her a hair cut. That is just so wrong the idea is solid but for the idea to work your show needs to be good this show isn't good and Medusa is one of the best characters in this show and so when you rob her of her powers your also robbing your show of the chance to entertaining at least and the reason why they did it is pretty freaking obvious it was so they could save money and CGI which is also why Lockjaw in later episodes is either injured or tired and so he's of screen.

These characters should have been in a movie because the movie would have had the budget to make the effects as good as they need to be. Which for something like Inhumans which by nature is an effects heavy property is something that you really do need in this case and while they could work as TV show characters on a TV show budget they ended up in the hands Ike Perlmutter who is the chairman of Marvel and is known for being cheap and so this show was doomed to fail because it wasn't given the budget that it really needed.

This show honestly could have been good hell it could have been great if they took a different approach with it. What if it was a Game Of Thrones type of show full of politics , backstabbing and intrigue but with super powers that to me would have made the show alot better and it would have forced the writers to come up with some good stuff but they didn't instead they came up with a plot line that's been done to death a million times over and so what could have been a good show instead ends up being just another bad show.

I wouldn't blame anyone if they forgot that this show was even thing simply because it didn't even last ten episodes. This show only lasted eight episodes and was cancelled not long after it's first and only season ended and this show was given a pretty huge push as well with the first two episodes being edited together and released as a feature film about about a month before the episodes aired on ABC and so the fact that this show despite getting a huge push still drew low ratings and was cancelled just goes to tell you how bad the show was.

Now then boys and girls since this is an action show and there is some action in this episode that does mean I have to talk about the action in this episode. I honestly feel that the action in the episode is at best OK and that's only when it's compared to anything else in this episode because the action is honestly pretty freaking dull alot of the time since it's all stuff that we've seen before but done worse and that doesn't make it fun to watch if anything it makes it boring to watch.

Overall do I really need to say how trash this episode and this show even is like I said it didn't even last one full twenty two episode season it was cancelled after eight episodes. Yes there are some good things in this episode I will not deney that however there are alot more bad things in the episode and those bad things are things that could have very easily have been fixed for the most part and yet the people in charge of making the show chose not to fix them as such this episode gets a 4.5 out of 10 from me thank god I have a better Marvel show to do a review of an episode of coming soon.

Jessica Jones "AKA Ladies Night" Review

 

Marvel fans i've talked alot about the companies animated shows at least depending on where your seeing this review I have. So I thought that i'd make more of an effort to take a look at some of the live action shows that the company has put out and by luck alot of their live action shows are set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe even tho the Marvel Cinematic Universe films don't acknowledge the shows and the shows don't acknowledge the movies that much and so here is my review of the first episode of Jessica Jones season one called "AKA Ladies Night" enjoy the review.

The plot of the episode is Jessica Jones is a private detective and is tasked with finding someone's daughter a quest which will see an old enemy return into her life. I'll admit the p;lot of the episode is alot better then what I remember it being I saw this episode when it was first released and I remember thinking that the story wasn't that great but now after just finishing re-watching the episode I think it's alot better since it is an engaging story and it does a good job of setting up all of the main characters as well as the story for this first season which is something alot of pilot episodes just don't do anymore for some strange reason.

Starring in the episode is Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones , Mike Colter as Luke Cage and Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker. Also starring in the episode is Erin Moriarty as Hope Shlottman , Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse , Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth , David Tennant as Kilgrave , Susie Abromeit as Pam , Robin Weigert as Wendy Ross-Hogarth , Kobi Libii as Zack , Joseph Ragno as Roy Healy , Ian Blackman as Bob Shlottman and Deborah Hedwall as Barbara Shlottman.

The acting from the series regular cast is again alot better then what I remember it being since I remember it being at best OK with the exception of Krysten Ritter who when the episode was first released I thought was fantastic. The same is still true here Krysten Ritter really is the only person who play Jessica Jones in live action in my opinion as for the guest cast they were at best passable which I guess makes sense since there never going to be the focus of the show nor remembered that much and so they can afford to not give that good of a performance but at the same time I would have liked it if they did put in a bit more effort tho.

This to me is a different kind of breed of a live action Marvel show because alot of them have a hero who is ready and willing to be a hero where as this show gives us someone who has already been a hero and is now trying to get away from that and live somewhat of a normal live. This to me makes the show interesting because as we find out the main reason why Jessica is basically in hiding is because of something she had no control over which in turn adds a layer to the Jessica Jones character since now she has trust issues and her way of helping to deal with that and with her PTSD is to give up being a super hero.

As you can tell by the poster this was a Netflix show which means it's alot more mature and alot more darker then alot of Marvel shows animated or live action. So basically if you have Disney+ because yes this show I believe is on there and you have little kids begging you to let them watch this show just say no because there's gore , partial nudity and other things just in this episode and as this first season goes on it gets darker and more mature.

I would normally mention the villain much later in the review but since we don't really get a good idea of who Kilgrave is in this episode to me it only made sense to bump this part up. To me the character of Kilgrave as his powers are really dark not just for a Netflix show but for any show he has the power to violate you in ways that you never thought possible and even tho he doesn't appear at least fully in this episode we do get a feel for what kind of a threat he is as well as some sort of an idea of how dangerous of a threat he is to Jessica and her life as well as her friends and loved ones.

There are some down sides tho the first of which being we don't get to see this season's main bad guy which if this was a forty five minuet episode I would fully understand since you have alot of things to set up and so holding of on letting see the villain makes sense. However this episode is nearly fifty five minuets long and so they really have no excuse plus he does play a huge part in the story and so letting us see the villain actually makes alot of sense.

Not really helping things for this episode is the fact that the episode doesn't really take the time to even start to develop characters like Trish or Luke Cage. Which is a shame because when it comes to Trish she becomes sort of a co-lead character with Jessica and Luke goes on to have his own Netflix series and so you have to make the auidence fall in love with these characters because you want us to want to see more of them and when you don't even begin to develop the characters or even show us any thing when it comes to there personality it makes us hard to love these characters.

That being said I do see why they didn't chose to start to develop Luke Cage as a character because like I said he does get his own Netflix show, As such it makes sense that his show would be the one to fully develop his character but it makes his appearance in this show pointless tho because from what I recall he doesn't get much development as a character and so why would we want to see him in his show where he's going to get the development that should have started with this show.

I have to admit I love the end twist in this episode just because it makes you wonder if the either the person Jessica is looking or if Jessica herself is truly safe. Which to gives this season as well as this episode an air of dread just because you don't know who else he's controlling and weather they are aware of it or not which is something that you just don't see in shows these days since there more interested in setting up things for future episodes.

Overall this is honestly a really good episode and is a really good representation of what the show would go on to become in my opinion. Yes there are faults in this episode but you could say that about the premier episode and aren't just exclusive to this show and trust me when I tell you there's a huge chance I could watching an even worse premier episode tomorrow as such this episode gets a 7 out of 10 from me.

The Mandalorian "Chapter 4: Sanctuary" Review

 

Star Wars fans out of all the Star Wars entries i've reviewed the one that i've given the least amount of attention to is arguably the one thing that is the most true to everything Star Wars was right now. Out of all the Star Wars products that Disney has brought the thing that i'm basing a review on is one of the few things that pretty much all Star Wars fans agree is good and so I thought i'd take a look chapter four of The Mandalorian with the episode being called "Sanctuary" enjoy the review.

The plot of the episode is The Mandalorian and the world's cutest baby ever have to hide out on a small planet and while there they along with an ex shock trooper in order to help some of the planets inhabitants. I'll admit that the story honestly wasn't what I was expecting and that's honestly a good thing because as dark as this show can get it's nice to see an episode that's a little bit light hearted and the fact that the story was honestly good is for me at least a really good thing.

Starring in this episode is Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian , Gina Carano as Cara Dune and Julia Jones as Omera. Also starring in the episode is Isla Farris as Winta , Asif Ali as Caben , Eugene Cordero as Stoke , Tiffany Thomas as Sorgan Farmer #3 , Aydrea Walden as Sorgan Farmer #4 , Trula Marcus as Sorgan Farmer #5 , Sala Baker as Klatooinian Raider Captain and Ida Darvish as Common House Proprietor.

The acting in this show has got alot of praise from both fans and none fans of Star Wars and it's honestly really easy to see why. Since the acting in this episode is honestly really freaking good try as I might I cannot find a single bad performance in this episode and that's because all of the actors in the episode are really giving it there all and because the script is so good that the actors have no choice to but deliver a good performance.

Providing the CGI for this series and thus this episode is Industrial Light & Magic , Image Engine Design , BOT VFX , Base FX and Hybride Technologies. The CGI is where I have some issue with the episode because while it is indeed really good there are some effects that really don't look that good and feel like they could have done with a little bit more time just to make them up to the shows already high standard.

To me at least this issue really comes into focus with the AT-ST aka the chicken walker just because it looks like something that you'd see in a late Playstation 3 video game. Which is a shame because there's are some shots where the make the AT-ST actually look pretty creepy but then you get a real good look at you see that it doesn't really look as good as the other effects in this show or even in this episode for that matter.

I've made it known a few times in the past that I don't like the Star Wars sequel trilogy due to the fact that they don't represent anything that Star Wars is or could be. Well with this episode we get to see what Star Wars is because it's made by people who actually like Star Wars the franchise is built of on the concept of good and evil with the idea that even the smallest person can make the biggest difference.

That is something that we see in this episode since The Mandalorian and Cara Dunne are pretty much forced to recruit the village's inhabitants in order to fight this people. I honestly feel that if the villagers hadn't been recruited and trained then both The Mandalorian and Cara Dunne would be dead as would most like Baby Yoda and so the smallest thing can make the biggest difference which in this case is the villagers.

Now for some reason people have been going after the one person who can take them down with out breaking a sweat Gina Carano. As far as I can tell this dates back several months when Gina refused to tweet anything either for or against black lives matter which she is well within her right to do and it's kicked up again because she's refusing to put pronouns in her bio please note that the same people who are attacking her and are demanding that Disney fire her are the same people that demand strong female characters in movies and TV shows and now that they have one in Cara Dunne they want to get rid of the actress just because she doesn't do anything that they want her to do , i've seen some of the tweets they've been sending her there are some demanding that Disney fire her from The Mandalorian and there are some calling her a fat ugly bithc which if you've seen the above image you'll know that all three of those statements are anything but true.

Back to the episode because I do have one more issues with the episode and that's the running time since this episode should be at least an hour long and not nearly forty minuets. Since with a longer running time the story can flow better and not feel rushed which sadly with this shorter running timer and as a result your not given the chance to care for any of the guest characters or there situation nor is there any time given to building up tension which for the final scene is something that you really do need.

Now then since this is an action show and there is action in this episode that means that we have to talk about the action in this episode. I honestly that the action in this episode is for a TV show really good granted they only have two actions scenes in the whole episode but the action is honestly really fun to watch and any action sequence with Gina Carano is always a plus for me just because she is such a bada** in my opinion.

Overall this was honestly a really good episode in my opinion and like I said is a good example of what Star Wars is when it's handled by people who are actual fans of the franchise. As i've said in this review there are some issues with the episode but for me at least while those issues or issues that are fixable they didn't take away from my enjoyment of the episode which is always a good thing as such this episode gets a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Harley Quinn: The Animated Series "Til Death Do Us Part" Review

 

There have been a ton of shows based of DC Comics characters but all of those shows have been based of the heroes that DC Comics have created. Well that all changed a little under a year ago when the DC Universe streaming service debuted an new adult animated show based of someone who is technically a villain and they actually made the show good and so here is my review of the debut episode of the Harley Quinn animated series with the episode itself being called "Til Death Do Us Part" enjoy the review everyone.

The plot of the episode is after a year locked up in Arkham Asylum Harley finally learns that The Joker never truly loved her and so sets out on a quest to become the number one villain in Gotham. Out of all the good things in this episode the plot isn't one of them don't get me wrong it's enjoyable as hell and is very fun to watch and see play out the problem is the story itself is so thin that it might has well not even be there.

Starring in the episode and the rest of the series is producer Kaley Cuoco as Harley Quinn and Lake Bell as Poison Ivy. Also starring in this episode and the rest of the series is Diedrich Bader as Bruce Wayne / Batman , Vanessa Marshall as Joey , Matt Oberg as Killer Croc and Banker , Jim Rash as The Riddler and Stan , Talia Tabin as Mrs. Calendar , Chris Meloni as Commissioner Gordon , JB Smoove as Frank the Plant and Alan Tudyk as The Joker and Calendar Man.

I'll be the first to admit that when I first watched this episode when it first came out I wasn't that big of a fan of Kaley Cuoco as Harley Quinn just because all I could hear was Penny from The Big Bang Theory, However now tho I fully by her as Harley yes I can still just hear Penny but that will always be there but her performance in this episode is really good and the same goes for the rest of the cast who all give performances that match the ton that this show is going for.

Doing the animation for this episode and i'm assuming the rest of the series is NE4U and I say assuming because I can't find anything regarding the animation for the actual series on the show's IMDB page but I found NE4U listed on the episode's IMDB page as doing the animation for the episode. The animation for this series has got a lot of praise from people and yeah it's not hard to see why since the animation in this episode is stunning as hell.

For me at least it's always a good sign when the animation in the first episode is really good simply because it says that the team behind the show care about making the best show possible. One of the ways that they can do that is by giving the first episode great looking animation since you only get once chance to make a good first impression and if you have solid animation in your first episode then you've made one hell of a good first impression.

I actually like the idea that Harley had to talk her self into breaking up with The Joker because to me that makes alot more sense then having her do it because of reasons. Yes i'm looking at the Birds Of Prey movie when I say that because here it's important for the character to discover that The Joker never really loved her and was infact abusing the living hell out of her and so it forms part of the characters arc as she has to come to terms with the fact that she was in a one way relationship and that's something that I feel that this show does really well in my opinion.

I honestly feel that this show handles the relationship between Harley and Ivy really well since we see there relationship develop over the course of the show and they don't just stay in one place if you get what I mean. That to me at least starts of in this episode since we see how much they care for each other and how much they are willing to go through to make the other one happy which is something that you don't see that much if at all in any kind of show animated or not and so it was nice to see it presented here.

Now then this is a comedy and so that means that we have to talk about the jokes that are in the actual episode. For me personally the jokes just weren't that funny don't get me wrong there are a few funny lines here and there but the overall majority of the jokes I didn't find funny which for a comedy is not really a good thing but just because I didn't find some jokes funny doesn't mean that you guys will feel the same way you guys might find all of the jokes in this episode to be funny.

This is I think the only adult animated comedy on DC Universe and when I say that this show and this episode is adult I really mean it. Since there is lots of blood and violence when someone brakes a bone you see the bone which was something that I honestly forgot was in the episode and so I was quite shocked to see it happen on more then one occasion and there's lots of swearing so basically don't let little kids watch this show.

This is also an action show and that does mean that we have to talk about the action that's in this episode. To me the action is one of the more weaker elements of the episode not that the action is any bad far from it but because everything else is so good and so when you compare the action in the episode to literally anything else then the action is going to come of looking worse because of it altho the final action scene at The Joker's lair is really freaking cool and I like how they use that sequence to explain why Harley is now using a baseball bat and why she's changed her costume instead of having them both come out nowhere.

Overall this episode is a great start to a great series and the series as a whole is one that needs a third season hint hint HBO Max. Yes there are some bad things in this episode all of which i've covered in this review but for me at least alot of those things are only bad when you compare them to over things in the episode since the episode is so freaking good as such this episode gets an impressive 8.5 out of 10 from me.

X-Men: Evolution "Strategy X" Review

 

X-Men fans as you may be a where i've taken a look at more then a few X-Men adaptations be it movies or the original animated series. However there is one series that i've not taken a look at and well since i'm continuing this run of mostly doing animated reviews be they movies or TV episodes I thought that now was a good time to finally look at an episode from this show and so here is my review of the very first episode of x_Men: Evolution called "Strategy X" enjoy the review everyone.

The plot of the episode is honestly really hard to describe not alot really happens in the episode and what little does happen is done for no reason. This is the first episode of the show and there's no plot to the actual episode which for me at least is huge red flag since it gives me very little reason to watch any more episodes which is something that should never be the case no matter what the show is but I do like the idea of having the X-Men and Brother Hood Of Mutants attend the same school since it makes you wonder when are both groups going to fight or even if there going to fight.

Starring in the episode is Kirby Morrow as Scott Summers / Cyclops , Venus Terzo as Jean Grey and David Kaye as Charles Xavier. Also starring in the episode is Brad Swaile as Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler , Scott McNeil as Logan , Kristen Williamson as Ororo Munroe / Storm , Colleen Wheeler as Raven Darkhölme  / Mystique , Vincent Gale as Duncan Matthews , Neil Denis as Paul Haits , Christopher Judge as Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto and finally we have Noel Fisher as Todd Tolansky / Toad.

For me personally I thought that the acting in this episode wasn't that good which can be seen as a good thing since the actors are still trying to find there characters. However since alot of these characters had started to become household names at this point thanks to the first X-Men movie as well as the nineties X-Men animated Series I do feel that more effort should have gone into making the acting for this debut episode really good.

                                                                                     

The animation for this episode was done by Mook DLE who also did the animation for the rest of the series. I honestly liked the animation in this episode granted it's really mind blowing but for an early 2000's animated show the animation is episode is actually pretty decent I won't lie and say that it's perfect because it's not but given how badly it could have been having animation that is just ok is a good thing in my opinion.

To me what makes the animation decent and nothing more is the fact that it looks like every other show that came out around the same time. There's nothing from a stylistic point of view that makes this show standout because it looks like all the other action shows that were coming out around the same time as this show and as such this show just blends in with all the others and it does nothing to help itself standout and grab your attention. Sadly tho that also effects the animation because it's just like every other action animated show that came out around the same time period.

Like I said before I like the fact that alot of the core characters in this show are all attending the same school since it adds a level of drama that wasn't there before. Since now your wondering when the two groups will find out about each other when they do find out about each when will they attack each other this is a kind of drama and suspense that you don't really get in the movies or in the comic books and so i'm glad that it's in this series.

As a fan of Storm i'm shocked that they didn't use her character that much in this episode since she only shows up for a few minuets in a couple of scenes and that's really it. Hell in the big training room scene she just stands there while Charles Xavier saves his students the least they could have had her do is fly down to help since she very easily could get all of the students out of harms way but the makers of the show chose to have her do nothing for some reason.

For me one of the worst things that this episode does is they give Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler a device which makes him appear normal. This to me goes against the original idea of the X-Men since the team at least when it comes to animation have never been about having disguises to fit in they've always been about wanting to be accepted by people for who they are and by giving Nightcrawler this device it goes against that message and that ideal.

This was I believe the first X-Men show to air on Kids WB with the show starting on November 4th 2000 with the final ever episode airing on October 25th 2003. Despite only being on the air for three years the show lasted a very impressive four seasons which no matter what show it is is a very impressive run and so I have to give this show credit for lasting quite a long time as it lasted three years I have ti assume that the series does have it's fans which if so then good for this show since getting a fanbase is always hard no matter the show or film.

I would class this is as an action show however just based on the first episode which had very little no action in it im honestly not sure. I counted how many action scenes there are in this episode and there's only really one granted it's a big long action scene but still having one action scene in the debut episode of an action show is for me a bit of a red flag because it shows that the makers of the show have no idea what there doing but who knows maybe the makers of the show do know what there doing but if so there not doing a good job of letting me know.

Overall if this episode is a true representation of the show as a whole then I don't see this show being that good. Yes there are some good things in this episode that is something that I will never ever deney but there are alot more bad things in the episode at least I think there is anyways but if you guys like this episode faults and all then more power to you but for me this episode gets a 5 out of 10 from this comic book and animation fan.

The Muppet Show "Juliet Prowse" Review

 

Now depending on where your seeing this review you'll know that yesterday I promised that i'd be taking a look at a piece of classic Muppet media. Well i'm a man of my word and as luck would have it I happen to have a piece of classic Muppet media on my laptop this is also something that i've not seen people and so I think i'm the first one to tackle this show but I could be wrong and so here is my review of what IO assume to be the first episode of The Muppet Show at least according to the season 1 DVD box set anyways and so enjoy the review.

The I guess you could say plot of this episode is that Kermit has to deal with a dog who is asking all for all of these insane demands all because he's the favourite pet of the theatres owner and also happens to Scooter's Uncle. How do you talk about the plot of an episode of The Muppet Show because of the one hand you can't say that it doesn't have a strong story because that's the point but on the other hand you do have a say that it has a weak story so for once i'm honestly stuck on what to say about the plot but I can say that the story was cute and that's really all I can say about the story.

Starring in the episode is Jim Henson as Kermit , Rowlf , Waldorf , Mahna Mahna, and Flower-Eating Monster and Frank Oz as Fozzie , Miss Piggy , The Snowths , George , Mildred, and Feather Boa Constrictor. Also starring in the episode is Richard Hunt as Scooter , Statler , Miss Piggy , Miss Piggy's dancing partner , Frogs, and Bartender , Dave Goelz as Gonzo , Muppy , Zoot , Miss Kitty , and Pigs , John Lovelady as Cowboy and Frogs , Eren Ozker as Flower-Eating Monster's dancing partner , Waitress , Chickens and Juliet Prowse Muppet and Juliet Prowse as Herself.

The acting from the muppet actors is honestly pretty spot on yes some of the voices do sound a little rough but since was the show's first season they are of course still trying to perfect the voices. Performance wise the muppet actors do a solid job with each of them getting a good laugh out of me at some point during the show and hell even Juliet Prowse who isn't an actor still manages to get a good laugh from me.

Something that really caught me of guard is the fact that the chickens talk not only in English but they also use full sentences. I'm so used to the chickens talking like actual Chickens and so to see an early episode of The Muppet Show where they actually talk like regular people was for me quite a surprise and was honestly pretty freaking weird since i'm so used to how they talk now and it was honestly pretty hard for me to get past the fact that there talking like regular humans instead of talking like chickens.

Another thing that I wasn't expecting is that in an early scene they give Miss Piggy a more gruff voice and I checked it is meant to be her. To me that was just so weird because not only does it not sound like the character at all it actually sounds more masculine it was like they forgot that they were recording and so the actor playing Miss Piggy just used his normal voice and when they found they just couldn't be bothered to change it.

Now the version i'm watching had a scene that was exclusive to UK showings of The Muppet Show and in this case it featured Rowlf The Dog singing a song. I honestly like the little scene not only does it feature a weirdly dark song called "You and I and George" but the scene does also have plenty of laughs mostly with how dark as hell the song gets but also due to the fact that the actor playing Rowlf the late and great Jim Henson does such a good job performing as the character that you can't help but laugh at what's going on.

I felt that the way they integrated this episodes special guest star was very natural and lot of that stems from the fact that this show takes on a verity show type of format. As such it would have been very easy for them to have a guest star and have them take part in the show in a way that feels natural and this way allows for the guest star to do stuff that there not really known for which in the case of Juliet Prowse is acting.

This episode is twenty six minuets which for me at least is a fairly big issue since alot of the acts that the characters do go on for a fairly long time. Which for me at least made the episode feel boring at times which is a shame because the episode for the most part is honestly really entertaining and it would have been a damn near perfect episode if they made the episode a little bit shorter but that's just what I think.

Now if you recall back when I listed who's acting in this episode I listed both Frank Oz and Richard Hunt as playing Miss Piggy. Well that wasn't a mistake since for this episode they both play the character to some degree with Frank Oz doing the speaking lines for the character and Richard Hunt doing the characters singing voice both for the exact same sketch that being the Muppet Glee Club Sketch and in my opinion both perform the character really well in my opinion.

Now then since this is a comedy that does mean that we have to talk about the jokes that are in this episode. For me I thought that the episode was honestly really funny with there being at least one solid joke every few sketches and just like with The Muppet Movie I really cannot count how many times I laughed out loud that's how good the jokes were in my opinion and the fact that the jokes hold up all these years later says how timeless The Muppets are.

Overall this show is a classic for a reason and in my opinion this episode is a prime example of why it's considered a classic since it has all of the typical Muppet mayhem that we've come to know and love from these characters and this franchise. That doesn't make this episode perfect tho because it does have some faults even if one of those faults actually fits in with the type of show this is as such this episode gets an 8.5 out of 10 from me.

The Pebbles And Bamm-Bamm Show "Gridiron Girl Trouble" Review

 

Flintstones fans i've made my love for the franchise known in the past but the one thing that i've never done is taken a look at one of the countless spin off shows from when the show was in it's heyday. One of the things that spin off like to do is shift the focus to people who are pretty much secondary characters in the main show well the show i'm taking a look at doesn't do that because it shifts the focus to two main characters and so here is my review of the debut episode of The Pebbles And Bamm-Bamm Show called "Gridiron Girl Trouble" enjoy.

The plot of the episode is that Bamm-Bamm's pet dog Snoots follows them to high school and while there Bamm-Bamm , Pebbles and there friends have to keep Snoots hidden from a dog catcher which somehow ends up with Pebbles joining the school football team. Yeah this story is as wild and at times hard to follow as I made it look simply because the storyline with Snoots get's dropped pretty freaking quickly which is a shame because that story was pretty entertaining and the one they replaced it just isn't entertaining at all.

Starring in the episode are Sally Struthers as Pebbles Flintstone , Jay North as Bamm-Bamm Rubble and Alan Reed as Fred Flintstone. Also starring in the episode are Lennie Weinrib as Moonrock Crater , Grumpstone and Bronto , Gay Autterson as Wiggy Rockstone , Betty Rubble and Cindy Curbstone , Mitzi McCall as Penny Pillar , Mel Blanc as Barney Rubble , Zonk and Snoots and Jean Vander Pyl as Wilma Flintstone.

The acting in the episode is for me at least one of the episodes better aspects which given everything else that happens really isn't a high bar to reach. That being said Alan Reed just sounds like he's been smoking a ton of cigarettes before going into record because he doesn't like Fred at all which is a shame because he does deliver a good performance as the character as do the actors playing Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm but the script let's the actors playing Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm down since we're not given alot of time to see what these characters personalities are which was fine in The Flintstones since they were very rarely the focus of an episode it's ok when an entire series is built around them and this is something that should have been fixed.

I don't really think that this needs saying since it's kind of obvious but doing the animation for not only this episode but the entire series is Hanna-Barbera Productions. I have to say that the animation is alot better then what I thought it would be simply due to the fact that it doesn't look cheap and it doesn't have the cheap movements that Hanna-Barbera is known for that being said however the episode does have the classic Hanna-Barbera tradition of using repeating backgrounds only this time it's not as noticeable as it is in other shows.

In what I think is a wise move they have the parents of Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm appear quite alot in this episode. Which to me is a good thing just because it reassures the auidence a little bit because of the fact they are alot more familiar with those characters due to The Flintstones TV show and the fact that they don't really play a huge part in the plot is for me a good thing because it means that the focus is solely on Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm as it should be.

The one thing I wasn't really expecting them to do in this show was for them to make Pebbles look hot as hell. The above image is how she looks in this show and she looks stunning as all hell which given that her mother is Wilma I guess was always going to happen but still she look stunning just to keep with the theme of characters in this show who now look stunning as hell they made Bamm-Bamm look pretty handsome as well.

For some reason when people talk about The Flintstones TV show they never mention any of the spin off shows. Which to me is just odd since it's still those same characters played by alot of the same actors and so it's a continuation of the original show with this one being a prime example of that since they aged up Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm to the point where they are now teenagers attending high school and given that Bamm-Bamm refers to Pebbles as his girlfriend in this episode they are most likely dating as well.

Now I did some basic research and I found out that this show was actually the very first spin off of The Flintstones so we have this show to thank for starting a trend that is still going on to this very day. That trend of course being producing terrible spin off of The Flintstones and even tho this show lasted for one season of sixteen episode the show did kind of receive a continuation with various segments airing as part of The Flintstone Comedy Hour.

As I said before this show lasted for one season consisting of sixteen episode with the show lasting from September 11th 1971 with the final episode airing on January 1st 1972. The show aired on CBS which I don't air The Flintstones and so it makes no sense to me as to why they would air the spin off show , U honestly feel that it would have made more sense for this show to air on ABC since that was the home of The Flintstones during it's run.

Now then boys and girls since is a comedy that means that we have to talk about the jokes that are in this episode. To me alot of the jokes in this episode just weren't that funny which is a shame because there are some clever set ups like the gang having to hide Bamm-Bamm's pet dog Snoots around the school but the episode does nothing with those setups like how funny would it have been in the dog accidentally ended up taking the place of a teacher the possibilities for jokes with that one setup alone are endless but nope the episode doesn't take advantages of them.

Overall this episode wasn't that bad but it also wasn't that good either everything is just OK and nothing more. Which is a shame because this was the franchises first spin off show and so you'd have thought that more effort would have been put into making the show actually good but nope instead more effort went into giving Peddles her own freaking catchphrase "Yabba-dabba-doozy!" as such this episode gets a 5 out of 10 from me.
