Hellboy: Sword Of Storms Review

Hellboy fans alot of will know that the character has starred in a bunch of movies and video games as well as originally being a comic book character. However what many of you will not know is that there are some animated movies out there and well I thought that i'll take a look at the first one since it's the only one that I actually own and so then Hellboy fans here is my review of the first animated movie "Hellboy: Sword Of Storms" enjoy.

The plot of the movie is Hellboy finds himself transported to feudal Japan when investigating a case involving a missing sword and possesed professor and so Hellboy has to find a way back home before to evil gods destroy the world. In terms of what I thought of the plot it's was honestly really fun and it was something that I would have liked to have seen done in any of the movies that being said the plot does feel a bit rushed and bit formulaic at times.

Reprising their roles from the live action films are Ron Perlman as Hellboy , Selma Blair as Liz Sherman and Doug Jones as Abe Sapien. Jojning them for this film are Peri Gilpin as Professor Kate Corrigan , Dee Bradley Baker as Lightning , Kappa and a Pilot , Phil LaMarr as Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense Member and a Pilot , Mitchell Whitfield as Russell Thorn and Gwendoline Yeo as Kitsune.

In terms of what I the acting it was honestly really good which is something that I honestly wasn't expecting from a direct to DVD movie. Of course Ron Perlman is perfect as Hellboy I honestly think that he's the only one who can play the character at this point and while Doug Jones didn't play Abe in the first movie he did do the voice for the character on set so yeah he was reprising the role here and he killed it as did Selma Blair.

Doing the animation for the film is Film Roman who as far as I can tell are mistly known for there work on 1980's Garfiekld And Friends. As for what I thought about the animation it was honestly pretty decent again this is a direct to DVD movie so you can't expect the animation to be on the same level as say Disney and so what i'm assuming little budget that they had to work with the animation team did a good job.

However there is one creative choice that I take issue with and that's the fact that they give all of the human characters huge pupils. That choice makes all of the human characters look creepy as hell which for the villains works fine but it doesn't work for the good guys and so I have to wonder why did they choose to give the human character huge pupils since it's very off putting and doesn't work well withy the design of the human characters.

I have to wonder if Hellboy creator Mike Mignola came up with the designs for the creatures present in the film. Since there are some freaking cool looking creatures in this film like the fact that as you can see in the above picture there's a woman who's top half is human and her bottom half is that of a spider that in my opinion is just so cool , don't get me wrong there are a few lame looking villains like the headless people don't look that good but the vast majority of thye creatres that we see look so freaking awesome.

Now if your like me and you own this film on DVD then you'll know that it comes with a free comic book Hellboy: Phantom Limbs. I have no idea why those involved with either the making of the film or it's distribution chose to do this but I have to wonder why I mean it's not a bad idea but who honestly is going to by a DVD for a comic book it's pointless but at the same time it could also be a good way to get people who don't read comics into them espically if they like this film since it uses the same designs and is set in the sake world as the movie.

This film is an hour and seventeen minuets long and if i'm being honest it really should have been a but longer then that. Simply because the amount of story that they have in this film could very easily have filled up an hour and a half maybe an hour and forty minuet movie but for some reason they chose to make it just under and hour and twenty minuets and because of that scenes and plot points in the movie that would have worked if in a longer movie here feel rushed because the movie has to hit all of these plot points.

Now then since this is an action film that does mean that we have to talk about the action that's in the film itself. Which I feel was honestly really good and was easily the best part of the movie which is honestly saying something since when this film wants to it can be really fun and alot of this fun scenes do come in the action sequences which is every bit as awesome and as cool as you'd want them to be in my opinion.

Overall this was honestly I really good film and it's one that i'm glad that I own it's just a shame that the film is far to short. The fact that the film is to short is for me a big issues as is the fact that the human characters have really large and really off putting pupils but at the same time this movie can be really fun espically when it comes to it's action sequences as such this film gets a 6.5 out of 10 from me and if you guys givbe this review enough love i'll look into doing the sequel Blood And Iron as well as the live action films i'll make a few days of reviews out of it. 

 

 

Game Of Thrones "Dragonstone" Review

Game Of Thrones fans it would be easy for me to talk about one of the earlier seasons of the show and even easier for me to talk about the final season of the show. However I thought i'd talk about an episode from the seventh season of the show simply because I don't see people talking about this season at all which I don't really get since in my opinion this is a very underrated season and so here is my review of the season 7 premiere "Dragonstone" enjoy Game Of Thrones and TV show fans.

The plot of the episode is Jon and Sansa have a slight falling , Arya is proceeding south to kill the queen when she meets some soldiers who might change her mind and after seven long years Daenerys finally returns home. I know that this summery is pretty bad but in my defence reviewing a single episode of a show is always hard especially one where the story goes back several years , as for what I thought about this story it was really good and it did keep me invested all throughout the episode as any good story should do. 

Starring in this episode is Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister. Also starring in the episode is Lena Headey as Queen Cersei Lannister , Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen , Kit Harington as Jon Snow , Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark , Maisie Williams as Arya Stark , in his final appearance in the show the great David Bradley as Walder Frey , Bella Ramsey as Lady Lyanna Mormont , Jim Broadbent as Archmaester Ebrose and I wish I was making this up Ed Sheeran as Eddie.

In terms of what I thought about the acting in the episode I thought that it was honestly really good which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone at this point. Since the show is known for having great acting even in seasons that aren't that good and episodes that aren't that good the acting in them is always top notch which as i've said is the same thing here every actor including Ed Sheeran deliver a great performance in my opinion.

Now incase your wondering how I knew that the character that Ed Sheeran play's is called Eddie it's because I checked it on the official fandom page for this episode which does have him listed as being called Eddie. It's honestly a pretty weird cameo as well because unlike all of the other musician cameos that they've had on the show they put alot of focus into making sure that you know it's Ed Sheeran which to me at least takes you out of the show and out the story it's not a bad cameo but they didn't need to make sure that you knew who it was.

As mentioned this is the last episode to feature David Bradley as Walder Frey and what i liked about his death is that it actually ties back into Arya's story. Which was honestly something that the writers of this episode David Benioff & D.B. Weiss didn't have to do at all it was a nice little touch that reminds us that Arya is not only still out for revenge but also remembers everything that happened that night and will stop at nothing to make sure that those who committed the crime will pay for it with there very lives.

Speaking of Arya outside of a few scenes she's not in this episode that much which I don't really get why they did that. Since they could have spent alot of time letting us know what she was going to be up to this season or developing her character a little bit more but no they only have her in I think it was two scenes while one of them does add to her story the other one i'm not kidding is only there so that Maisie Williams could meet one of her favourite singers.

I kind of liked what they did with Cersei in this episode since they took the time to show a more strategic side to the character. This was honestly something that they didn't have to do but it's something that i'm glad was added into the episode since it makes her seem more in control of the situation my issue is that this kind of development has come a little to late in the game and so to throw it in here just seems like they had nothing for the character to do for the next two seasons.

This episode is just under an hour long I think the final running time for the episode is fifty eight minuets or something like that. Which to me feels about right since all this episode is is setting up things for the current season and the following season but at the same time there are characters like Jon and Arya who suffer because the episode is busy setting things up that it's not giving them anything to do in this episode.

I freaking loved the ending of this episode and i'm not just saying that because i'm a fan of Daenerys i;m saying it because it's such a great way to end the episode. All it is is a series of shots Daenerys and her crew walking through the now abandoned Dragonstone until they finally reach the throne room where Daenerys walks up the steps turns around and simply says "Shall We Begin?" that right there is such a good way to end the episode it's great visual story telling since there's no dialog at all until the very end of that sequence.

Overall this is honestly a really good and well written episode in my opinion and is in my opinion one of the better episodes of the show. that said tho this episode does have some issues alot of which i've discussed in this very review but to me those issues apart from alot of focus on Ed Sheeran during his appearance don't take away from the story infact some of them add to the story as such this episode get an 8.5 out of 10 from me. 

 

Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck And I Love To Singa Review

Looney Tunes fans I told you that i'd be back with another review and well i'm a man of my word and i've picked out two really good cartoons for this review. I'll be the first to admit that "Duck Amuck" is perhaps one of my all time favourite cartoons out there just due to how insane and funny it is and i've honestly never seen "I Love To Singa" all the way through since it just just doesn't do anything for me and so here is my review of both of those cartoons cartoon fans enjoy. 

The plot of Duck Amuck is Daffy is trying to make a cartoon only for him to be constantly outwitted by an unseen animator and in I Love To Singa the plot is a young Owl just wants to sing Jazz but his classical loving family won't let him. Plot wise I honestly enjoyed I love To Singa more just because the story was really strong and was really well done where as in Duck Amuck there wasn't much there in terms of story in my opinion.

Starring in I love To Singa is Tommy Bond as Owl Jolson , Billy Bletcher as Father , Martha Wentworth as Mother and Tedd Pierce as Jack Bunny. In terms of what I thought about the acting in this short it was pretty decent at best there's not much spoken dialog so it's hard for me to really get a grip on the quality of the acting but from little lines of dialog there are in the short the acting seems OK at best in my opinion.

Starring in Duck Amuck is the late and the always great Mel Blanc as both Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny. This was honestly the easiest cast list i've had to write up because it's just him as for what I thought about the acting tho it's really freaking good this is a real tour de force for Mel as like I said it's just him and he really does deliver easily going from Daffy to Bugs in the blink of an eye which is something that only he could do.

Animating Duck Amuck was Ken Harris , Ben Washam and Lloyd Vaughan , I know that alot more people worked on this short but those are the only three credited and so to stop myself from going insane i'm only crediting those three. In my opinion the animation in this short is so freaking good everything from the ever changing backgrounds to Daffy's acting just sell me on the fact that's he's getting more and more annoyed at the animator.

Now I didn't know this going into this review but doing the animation for I Love To Singa is Looney Tunes legend Chuck Jones here credited as Charles Jones and Virgil Ross. While I love the animation in Duck Amuck to me the animation in this short looks like something that should have been in a feature length film because it's that good in my opinion , heck alot of the animation reminded me of the Disney version of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs that's how good it was in my opinion.

Like most Warner Bros cartoons made at the time this one was basically made to be a music video featuring songs from the classic Warner Bros music library. As a music video I would have rated this very highly hell I would even have recommended it to a few people but as a short film on it's own I can't really do that since there's nothing there in terms of a character and by that I mean you never get a sense of any kind of personality from these characters at all.

This isn't really an issue with Duck Amuck since we've had countless cartoons up until this point to get to know Daffy. As such we know how he would react in certain situations or how certain directors would handle the character but with I Love To Singa you don't have have that advantage and so you have to give us the personality of the characters as well as tell a good story and while it does indeed tell a good story it doesn't give the characters any kind of personality.

I honestly like that the kind of made Bugs the bad guy of Duck Amuck even tho he is basically just pulling a prank on Daffy seeing this evil side to him oddly makes me wonder if he's actually a villainous character. Think about it we always see his cartoons from his point of view where his antics are always seen as funny but if you flip that and make the cartoons about the people that Bugs is up against those cartoons could very easily show Bug's in his true nature as the bad guy I could very well be looking deep into something that's not there but it's worth thinking about tho in my own honest opinion.

Now then let's take a second to talk about the jokes in these shorts because these are comedies and so it makes sense. I honestly didn't mind the jokes in both shorts while I will always find Duck Amuck to be the funnier of the two shorts that doesn't mean that I Love To Singa isn't funny in fact there are some good jokes in there but there's a lot more bad ones as well in my personal opinion which is a shame because when you see a good one it can be quite funny.

Overall I still feel that Duck Amuck is one of the greatest cartoons out there since it is so freaking funny. That being said tho I Love To Singa does have alot going for it as well like the animation being fantastic but that's really all that it has going for it since there's nothing there that to me screams classic Looney Tunes and while I can indeed see this being some people's favourites i'm not one of them and so even tho both shorts have alot of faults which have been discussed in this review Duck Amuck gets a 9.5 out of 10 from me and I Love To Singa gets a 5 out of 10 from me there's only one way to end this review THAT'S ALL FOLKS!.

Looney Tunes: Rabbit Of Seville And Daffy Duck In Hollywood Review

Looney Tunes fans we don't talk as much and well I want to make an effort to fix that as such i'm dedicating the next few days to reviewing Looney Tunes shorts. I've already got tomorrow's short or shorts in mind but what was a hard choice for me at least is which shorts should I review for you all today and well the first short that came to mind is one that many consider one of the best Bugs Bunny cartoons and the other is the final Daffy Duck cartoon to be directed by Tex Avery and so here is my review of "Rabbit Of Seville" and "Daffy Duck In Hollywood" enjoy Looney Tunes fans.

The plot of "Rabbit Of Seville" is Bugs is being chased by Elmer Fudd and the two end up at a production of "The Barber Of Seville" where Bugs has to try and outwit Elmer where as in "Daffy Duck In Hollywood" a director is trying to finish a movie and daffy is constantly messing with him. I have to say that the plot of "Daffy Duck In Hollywood" is very thin at best with it virtually not being there where as the plot of "Rabbit Of Seville" is your standerd Bugs and Elmer cartoon but done to some really great music.

Now even tho the late and great Mel Blanc is in both cartoons bith he and  Arthur Q. Bryan don't get alot of line in this short plus Mel is also in "Daffy Duck In Hollywood and so to stop me repeating myself I will only talk about his acting when I get to talking about the acting in that short. As for this short like I said the actors don't get many lines of dialog with most of the short being done over music but from little acting there is it's really well done in my opinion.

As for "Daffy Duck In Hollywood" we have Mel Blanc as Daffy Duck / I. M. Stupendous / Rooster Actor and The Assistant Directors , Herman Bing as Von Hamburger and Sara Berner as Katherine Hepburn Chick and The Fat Lady. There's not much that I can say about Mel Blanc's acting because as always he's freaking perfect in both of these shorts and as for for the other two they do a really good job playing multiple characters and making them all sound very distinct in my opinion.

It's obvious that Warner Bros did the animation fort these shorts as such i'll be naming of a few of the individuals who did the animation. So starting with Daffy Duck In Hollywood we have Virgil Ross and Irven Spence doing the animation for this short and I have to say that the animation was of a really high quality I cannot say for sure if i've seen any more of there work but based of this cartoon i'd be more then happy to check a few out if I can find any of them that is.

Doing the animation for Rabbit Of Seville is Phil Monroe , Ben Washam , Ken Harris , Lloyd Vaughan and Emery Hawkins. Just like with the In Hollywood the animation here was at a very high standard and without looking at who the director of the short is you can tell just by the above picture who it is because it's in that directors visual style which since i'm a fan of the director who by the way if Chuck Jones is a plus for me.

The main reason as to why I wanted to watch Rabbit Of Seville is because it features the famous I guess joke of Bugs messaging Elmer's head with Bug's feet and then hands. That to me was honestly a really creative thing and it does seem like something Bugs would do and so I have to wonder why haven't other Bugs Bunny cartoons have him try and do something new in order to escape an enemy since it's something that clearly does work when done well.

As I said before alot of "Rabbit Of Seville" is done strictly to music and I have to say that the whole cartoon is really well timed with the music. Whenever there's a piano playing you'd see the characters do something that would reflect that or when some chase music starts playing a chase breaks out and when the chase music ends so does the chase it's honestly a really well timed cartoon at least when it comes to the music anyways.

Now the Daffy Duck cartoon does sadly feature the version of Daffy that I hate the most due to how much exposure this version has been getting lately and that's Screwy Daffy. However tho to this cartoon's credit they don't have this version of the character paired up with Porky Pig and they and they at least make an effort to have him somewhat be funny but this version of the character will never be Daffy to me since to me the character is more funny when things aren't going his way and he has a huge ego.

Now then since both of these are comedies that now means that we have to talk about the jokes in the both shorts and yea I will be talking about them both together because honestly what I have to say applies to both of them. In my opinion the jokes in both of these shorts are pretty funny but there's not as funny as they perhaps could be which is a shame because the Looney tunes shorts are usually full of some really good and laugh out loud funny jokes.

Overall if I had to choose which one I preferred out of these two short's i'd honestly go with Rabbit Of Seville simply because the scene with Bugs and Elmer chasing each other each one getting a bigger weapon is honestly really funny. That said there are some bad things about about cartoons which i've mentioned in this very review as such Rabbit Of Seville gets an 8 out of 10 from me where as Daffy Duck In Hollywood gets a 6 out of 10 from me and there's only one way I could every dream of ending a Looney Tunes review THAT'S ALL FOLKS!

Viz Comics June 2020 Review

Boys and girls i'm going try something that i've honestly been wanting to do for the past few months but have been putting it of and that is a monthly review of the Viz Comic strips. I'm not going to lie this could be the only one that gets done but if it gets enough support then it very well could become a monthly thing on top of the yearly Viz Annuals reviews as well and since this is a new thing i'm also going to come up with a new format which which you will see during the review and so here is my review of the June 2020 issue from Viz.

CHARACTERS FEATURED INCLUDE

8ACE

In this issue 8ace and his wife go to the shops and his wife has to stop him spending all of there money on cans of beer. I'll be honest i've never been a fan of this character to me he's just not funny in anyway and this issue does nothing to shift my opinion of him I honestly don't see why the character is still appearing in these strips since from what I can gather all of his stories are the exact same or at least in my opinion they are anyways.

THE FAT SL*GS

The story fo these two in this issue is that after having thirty six pizzas in the space of a week they decide to grow some vegetables. It's a really simple story which I think works well for these characters but it did leave me wondering how in the hell they could afford over thirty pizzas in the space of a week when they have no jobs but overall it was a very enjoyable story and one that made great use of the characters.

THE MAIL ONLINE

I love this strip and the story for this issue I thought was pretty funny with the story being that the wife character wants to go out but the husband following the strict UK lockdown guidelines refuses to leave the house and so we see what happens to him after a month of not leaving the houses even refusing to go into his own garden. This was actually a pretty funny story simply because it's something that rings true for a lot of people right now and the fact that it didn't demonise people who are like that to me made the story feel more sweet.

NEWSPARER ARTICLES

As is tradition with these Viz issues there are some spoof newspaper articles which I personally didn't mind that much this time around. Sadly tho they weren't as funny as perhaps they could have been especially given what's been going on in the world over the past month there's a lot of stuff that they could have lampooned but sadly they don't do it which is a shame but hey it means that they will have stuff ready for next month's issue at least.

There are also a bunch of spoof comments from the general public as well some of which I thought were pretty funny. With perhaps the best example being someone asking why elephants have this reputation for remembering everything when they don't have have a go at him for something he did fifteen years ago which while it's not laugh out loud funny it is still a pretty funny joke and one which I liked.

ONE OFF STRIPS

A STEPTOE AND SON ONE OFF SPOOF

Now i'm not going to mention anything about the art just because if this is going to be a monthly thing then it's something that I don't want to bring up and repeat myself with every single month. What I wasn't expecting was a Steptoe And Son spoof which for you Americans is the show that spawned Sanford And Son , I honestly wasn't expecting this since no one talks about Steptoe And Son and really hasn't done for decades and so to see the characters spoofed here was a real joy for me personally and I hope that they spoof more classic British comedies in future issues.

A KING KONG SPOOF

Yes ladies and gents you read that right there's a King Kong spoof in this months issue which I have to admit was fairly funny. To put it simply the spoof follows the plot of the original Kong except it replaces the characters with British TV stars even Kong himself is here portrayed by a British TV star i'm trying not to spoil anything just because if you can find away to read this issue then I highly recommend it just for this strip alone because it really is that funny in my opinion.

Overall while alot of this issue isn't that funny there are still alot of funny stories in this issue that make it worth reading in my opinion. There you go guys that was my pilot review for the Viz Comics series with any luck this series will continue every month with a review of the latest issue and i'll review the yearly annuals as and when I possibly can , sorry for the lack of HD images but if you know Viz then you know the type of content that they include hence why i've edited one of the names and not included that many HD images as for this issue tho it gets a 7 out of 10 from me and well i'll see you all in July with the nest issue.

  

Looney Tunes Cartoons First Batch Of Episodes Review

Looney Tunes fans the Looney Tunes brand has seen it's highs and it's lows over recent years and well the Bugs and the gang are back with a new series of shorts. Which like the rest of you I was really looking forward to seeing I watched alot of the previews that were released on line in the days leading up the series release and since there's a lot of episodes being released i'm doing this review in huge batches and so here is my review of the first batch of episode for "Looney Tunes Cartoon" enjoy.

Now as you'll all no doubt know this show doesn't have a plot line since its a series of shorts and as such each short will have a different plot so for example one short see's Porky and Daffy as firefighters while another would see Bugs Bunny trying to watch a baseball game. I'll admit that the set ups for each cartoon can indeed be funny but more often then not the shorts don't go all the way with the ideas behind the setups which is a shame.

Starring in the series is Eric Bauza as Bugs Bunny , Daffy Duck,  Tweety , Pepé Le Pew and Marvin The Martian and Bob Bergen as Porky Pig. Also starring in the series is Jeff Bergman as Sylvester , Elmer Fudd , Foghorn Leghorn and Ralph Wolf , Fred Tatasciore as Yosemite Sam , Taz , Sam Sheepdog and Gossamer , Candi Milo as Granny and via archive audio the late Paul Julian as Road Runner.

For me the voices in this series are a very mixed bag because while alot of the voices are indeed good there are others that just don't work as well. Take for example Eric Bauza as Bugs Bunny while his performance in the show is indeed good the voice just doesn't work for me since it doesn't sound like Bugs and the same goes for Candi Milo as Granny she puts in a good performance the voice just isn't there yet and there are plenty of others that are like that which is a shame because performance wise the acting is spot on in my opinion.

Now what makes this show stand out is that there's a bunch of different animation studios working on each short film. Which for me is a good thing because it allows each studio to leave there mark on the franchise as well as show us what they can do as a studio , that being said the animation in the shorts is honestly really good heck i'd dare say that it's feature film quality that's how good the animation is in my opinion.

The animation in these shorts also gives the shorts some of that classic Looney Tunes feel in my opinion. Which while it won't be noticeable in the character animation you can defiantly notice it in the backgrounds and indeed in some of the character designs , I honestly feel that this is a good thing because it helps recapture the spirit of the original shorts something which alot of recent Looney Tunes products haven't done.

As alot of you will know this show is airing on HBO Max which is a new streaming service from Warner Bros. From what I can gather there taking the same approach that Boomerang took when they aired Wabbit / New Looney Tunes where they release a whole bunch of episodes at once which for a show that's meant to have eighty episodes makes a lot of sense instead of releasing it either all at once or in weekly instalments which would just not work for this show.

Each episode is around eleven minuets long and is made up of usually three shorts with the middle short being around thirty seconds at most and the other two being around for or six minuets each. I honestly think is the right think to do for this show since the stories that they tell but at the same time I do wish that some of the shorts where a bit longer just due to how much fun I was having watching them.

Now even tho i'm a bit of a Bugs Bunny fan I have to admit that there are far to many shorts featuring the character in this first batch of released episodes. Over half of the shorts feature Bugs and that for me is far to many since it doesn't give enough time to show us the other Looney Tunes characters , I get why there showing us a lot of Bugs Bunny cartoons because he is the mascot for the Looney Tunes franchise but there's only so many times you can see him up against Elmer Fudd before you get bored watching it.

Another thing that I didn't like is that they had screwy Daffy in almost all of his shorts and to me at least that version of Daffy just isn't that funny. I personally find the Daffy that we see when ever he goes up against Bugs to be more funny but for some reason Warner Bros really like screwy Daffy since this is the version of the character that got in Wabbit / New Looney Tunes as well so weather or not they find this version of the character easier to market to young kids I don't know but that's just what I think.

Another thing that I didn't quite like that much is the fact that for alot of his shorts they had Daffy paired up with Porky Pig for some reason which I wouldn't mind that much except those are the only shorts in which Porky appears as well. Hell in this first batch of episodes there's only one short in which Daffy appears with someone else and that's in the short "Plumber's Quack" where he appears with Elmer Fudd and once again is his screwy self and there's one where Daffy appears on his own called "Bubble Dum" which rather rightfully uses his screwy persona.

As you guys will now this is a comedy series and that means that we have to talk about the comedy in this first batch of episodes. For me the comedy was very hit and miss which isn't necessarily a bad thing since all comedy is subjective , however I will say that when a joke does indeed work it works really freaking well it's just a shame that all of the comedy is slapstick and none of the classic Looney Tunes wordplay is anywhere to be found in this batch of episodes which is a shame in my own humble opinion.

  

Overall this was a solid first batch of episodes they did a really good job of trying to capture the magic of the original shorts which while the animation succeeded in doing so the humour and the writing didn't So yeah it's a very mixed bad I can say for sure that it's better then Wabbit / New Looney Tunes ever was and when this show is good it's really freaking good as such this batch of episodes gets a 7 out of 10 from me and yes I will be reviewing each batch of episodes whenever they release on HBO Max.

  

Game Of Thrones "You Win Or You Die" Review

Game Of Thrones fans I had such a good time talking about the final ever episode of the show and so I thought that i'd talk to you again. Only this time instead of choosing an episode from the pretty bad final season I thought that i'd go all the way back to the very beginning and take a look at the episode from the very first season of the show and I have to admit I chose a very good episode but honestly I only chose this episode because of one quote which i'll get into later and so here is my review of "You Win Or You Die" enjoy.

The plot of the episode is Ned confronts Queen Cersei about some secrets , while King Robert is gravely injured and Daenerys has a brush with death. I know that that summery is very bare bones but trust me when I say that it's the best that I could do , that being said the stories that are told in this episode I found to be really engaging with all the stories presented being well told as well as being well written.

Starring in this episode is Sean Bean as Eddard Stark , Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon and Jason Momoa as Drogo. Also starring in the episode is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister , Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister , Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen , Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont , Aidan Gillen as Petyr Baelish , Kit Harington as Jon Snow , Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy and making his debut for the series is the legend that is Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister.

I know that this is going to sound odd but I actually can't believe how much who we think are the main cast of this don't appear in this episode there's no Maisie Williams , no Sohpie Tunrer and no awesomeness that is Peter Dinklage it's honestly weird watching an episode of the show and not seeing them in it. As for what I thought about the acting in the episode it was honestly really good it's up the show's high standard of acting and that's honestly the best thing that I can say about the acting in this episode.

This episode is in my opinion a good episode to show of how everyone in the red keep is lier and is willing to sell anyone out since we see Little finger lie to Ned and Cersei lie to everyone in the throne room. I honestly love the fact that the Red Keep is full of liars because it means that you have to work out who's telling the truth and how isn't and this episode is a good example of that because both of the characters that I listed are known liars in this world and soy your always wondering if there telling the truth or not. 

I will full on admit that there was only one reason why I wanted to review this episode and that's the fact that what I think is the best quite in the entire show is in this episode "When You Play The Game Of Thrones You Win Or You Die There Is No Middle Ground that quote right there just sums up the entire show perfectly for me. Also given who's saying the quote and who she's saying it to it's now really ironic since both characters played the game of thrones and lost.

What also makes this quote stand out to me is the fact that it's the most accurate way to describe the show in my opinion. There's only two ways out for people who play the game of thrones either you claim the throne or you die there's no middle ground and that is true for every one who played the game and the only one who really didn't play the game Bran is the one who ended up winning the throne in the end and no Sansa doesn't count since she did technically win a throne just not the iron throne so she doesn't really count as a player in my opinion.

This is the episode that sees the death of King Robert and I have to say compared to other deaths even in this very episode his death is honestly not as over the top with gore as other deaths are. His death is honestly really well done it serves as setting up basically the rest of the show with all these families fighting for the throne as well as being a scene that is in my humble opinion really well acted as well as well written.

For those that don't know this is the episode that saw the debut of Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister and I have to say even tho he's in one scene he is so terrifying in that one scene. Even tho i've seen this episode a dozen times I was still pretty scared by him so I can only imagine how Nikolaj Coster-Waldau felt being in that scene with him for god knows how many hours and it's honestly a great introduction scene in my opinion.

There are a few issues that I personally had with the episode the first of which being that the finale with the big twist really did come out of nowhere. By that I mean there was no real build up to it happening it just came out of nowhere  to me the big reveal would have worked better if there was some sort of build up in the episode but sadly we don't get any but it is still a good reveal in my own humble opinion.

Overall out of the season one episode i'd say that this is one of the best episodes simply because it does a good job of setting up the rest of the show. That being said there are some issues that I personally had with the episode with one of them being the episode felt a lot longer then it actually was which is a shame because the episode was in my opinion really enjoyable as such it gets an 8.5 out of 10 from this Game Of Thrones fan.
