Looney Tunes "Baseball Bugs" Review

Alone with Mickey Mouse Bugs Bunny is perhaps the most well known cartoon character in the world and he is still gong strong to this very day. With him appearing in movies and TV shows every few years in either major or minor roles with there being perhaps one cartoon of his that isn't as well remembered and it's that very cartoon that i'm going to be talking to you all about today and so then join me as i review the cartoon that sees Bugs take on entire baseball tea by himself with the cartoon in question being called simply just "Baseball Bugs" enjoy.

The plot of this cartoon is when when he accidentally challenges a ruthless baseball team to a match Bugs has to take them on all by his self. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very cartoon well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very cartoon was in all honesty really good. This cartoon is rather light on plot and while this is something that does make sense as these cartoon didn't typically last longer then ten minuets it still would have been nice if there was more of a plot to this cartoon as outside of the basic premise and set up there's nothing to this cartoons plot that makes it feel unique. Heck we don't even get to find why Bugs is in New York in the first place with the cartoon starting with him already there and while granted this isn't something that effects the plot all that much it would have been nice to find out why he was there like maybe he's a sports fans and just wanted to watch some Baseball something like that which yes while it is simple it's simple enough for it work in this cartoons plot however to be fair tho the plot of this cartoon works as well as it does because of the fact that it's simple we don't need to know why the opposing team are bullies we just need to see them bulling people much like how we don't need to know why Bugs is there in the first place we just need to see him there and with the plot being as simple as it is it does allow for there to alot more jokes as the cartoon now won't have to stop the plot to tell a joke with the plot of this cartoon also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this cartoon is The Man Called Flintstone star Mel Blanc as Bugs Bunny , A Tea Totaller , The Umpire , A Gas-House Gorilla and The Second Sportscaster and The Three Caballeros star Frank Graham as A Sportscaster and Lead Gas-House Gorilla. Also starring in this cartoon is Tedd Pierce as First Sportscaster and The Flintstones , The Jetsons , Top Cat and Peter Loves Mary star Bea Benaderet as The Statue of Liberty.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very cartoon well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very cartoon was in all honesty really good. The fact that this cartoon only has four actors is for a Looney Tunes cartoon quite a good thing as these cartoons typically have at the very least no more then two people doing alot of the voices and yet here we get four really good actors in one cartoon with three of them playing multiple characters and while Bea Benaderet only appears at the very end of the cartoon you can still tell that it her doing the voice and she is still really good in this cartoon. With the best actor in this cartoon being of course Mel Blanc this was something that was always going to be the case as Mel was and still is the best voice actor there and cartoon like this one only serve to pint point that fact as here he has multiple characters which means he has to create multiple voices and make them all sound different and unique enough from each other and still turn in a good performance with this being something that he does so easily that he makes it seem like Child's Play with his own natural charm and charisma really coming through in this cartoon. With the acting that's in this very cartoon really being helped by the fact that this cartoons script is just so good that all this cartoons actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very cartoon.

Doing the animation for this cartoon is the legends and the greats that are Manuel Perez , Ken Champin , Virgil Ross and Gerry Chiniquy. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very cartoon well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very cartoon was in all honesty really good. The cartoons animation even for the time this cartoon was released in is still really good with the makers of this cartoon pulling some really impressive shots that even today would be hard to do and yet here they are in the mid forties doing really good forced perspective shots with a tree that one of the baseball team decides to use as a bat and it looks really good. Is this the best animated Looney Tunes cartoon no there are others that are better animated even going to back to the thirties as there are alot of details missing from the background and some of the crowd shots do look dull but this is also due to the fact that the cartoon just has the one setting and therefor the makers of this cartoon can't go as overboard as they normally would do and yet when they do have some really good looking animation be it in a shot or a character facial expression or or movement it is something that does stand out and it is something that does remind of you of just why alot of the Looney Tunes directions are legends in the world of animation as even in this cartoon you do see all of the care and love that has gone into each and every single frame of animation which is something that you don't really get to see all that much in more modern 3D CGI animated shows and movies.

Alot of the foes that Bugs does sometimes face are usually dimwitted characters that don't usually know that there getting on his nerves and those that do have something about them that makes them villains that you want to route for. Whereas here the villains are the team Gas-House Gorillas and to be frank here they are noting more then bullies as we do see them not only bully the team at the start of the cartoon that being a a tea of old men called The Tea Totallers but they also bully the umpire when he gives them a call that doesn't go there where with this being the very thing that forces Bugs to action as he gets angry about there tactics and without realising it challenges them to a match him against all of them and they accept. With them even trying there tactics on Bugs by abusing the Umpire and trying and bully Bugs these are things that do make them really hateful villains as while there is nothing to them as characters the fact that they nothing more then bullies is all that was needed to make us hate them and make us want to see Bugs win the day something which he thankfully does do by stopping them getting a homerun and yet these characters aren't as scary as they perhaps should have been as it would have made them be all the more scary if we did get to see them not only try to but also succeed in bulling Bugs ad get it to the point where he has to try and outwit them much like he would say Daffy Duck or Yosemite Sam for example rather then just having Bugs go on the offensive and win the day as all this ends up doing is making them look like weak villains and whilst this might have been the idea behind the characters it still makes them look like weak villains and heck given the fact that they are named after the Gashouse Gang which was a nickname for the St. Louis Cardinals why not have them borrow something that they might have done and have there uniforms be smelly and disgusting and have Bugs put on a mask of some kind.

This cartoon is to be real here a forgettable cartoon as not all that much happens in the cartoon itself with the cartoon just being nothing more then an excuse for the makers of this film cartoon to show of the fact that alot of them like baseball. Which is fine but it doesn't make the cartoon all that interesting as the second we see Bugs Bunny in the cartoon we know exactly how it's going to play out and sure enough everything that you think would happen does end up happening and because of that the cartoon doesn't really have all that much going for it with even the fact that the villains just aren't that interesting or fun villains for Bugs to go against as Bugs is at his best when he has to outwit his opponent and this is something that he can't do here as the second he appears in the cartoon he's right away on the offensive and is only put into one situation where he has to use his wits and it turns out to be one of the best scenes in the cartoon. There is really no way to make a cartoon like this one work it's current premise as you'd always run into the same issues with the villains and with the characters but it's something that could work if there was a age one re-write of the whole cartoon as the idea of Bugs taking on a team of some sort is good enough idea to carry a whole cartoon like maybe instead of them being these thugs who bully the opposite teams maybe there a team doesn't know that there getting on Bugs's last nerve with Bugs then challenging them to a match out of eagerness to get them to stop whatever it is that there doing only for it to turn that there actually good at baseball therefor Bugs has to think outside the box and use his wits to get them to loose the match with them getting more angry the more he succeeds in doing so.

Whilst this cartoon does get alot of things wrong it does get somethings right like the fact we do get to see Bugs just being his cool and confident self which is always a delight to see. The other thing being the fact that the villains in this cartoon are so over the top and so cartoonishly evil with them being huge hulking brutes who no only all look the same but also smoke cigars these are things that you could only get away with in cartoon from this time frame and to be fair here this cartoon does have alot of fun with these villains as we do get to see them use several methods to try and outwit Bugs with each and every one of them failing in one form or another all of which are things that do make you wonder why these characters weren't brought back as lower tier villains not just for Bugs but for any hero Looney Tunes character. As while yes it would have been redundant to have a character entera baseball game every single time there being used as villains but these characters don't just need to be a baseball they could be any group of people that you want and as long as you keep them as bullies and thugs they would still work and while granted they won't be as memorable as say Elmer Fudd they'll still be better then Nasty Canasta who suffers from the same thing that these character suffer from in that there's only so much that you can do with them but here tho due to the fact that there is more of them you could get these characters into more roles as villains and just have alot of fun with them which is something that this cartoon sadly doesn't take full advantage of as they instead just have them get beaten at every possible chance by Bugs.

Now then this cartoon has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly seven minuets and thirty six seconds. This is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for Looney Tunes cartoons and to fair to this cartoon this is a cartoon that really doesn't need to be that long as there's nothing all that much to this cartoon's plot outside of the basic premise of the short and that's it and heck you could have cut this cartoon down to about about five minuets and nothing of value would need to be cut out of the cartoon as there's nothing that's in this cartoon as it is that's important to either it's plot or it's jokes as there's just nothing to this cartoon at all with this cartoon just about having the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place. If we're being honest here this cartoon doesn't use its running time all that wisely as the cartoon doesn't take the rime to fully develop its plot as the cartoon just has this basic set up and seems to be scared of adding in important details like why Bugs is watching this game in the first place which is key to the plot of the cartoon as without that reason Bugs shouldn't be here in the cartoon at all with the makers of this cartoon putting more thought and effort into the villains character designs then they did into the cartoons plot development. With the same thing also being true for the cartoons character development which is something that could also be true for alot of the other Looney Tunes cartoons as well but here it is something that did need to be addressed even if it was just for this one cartoon it would have been nice to see the villains get some kind of character development even if it's just for a joke as Bugs Bunny doesn't need it and infact it could be argued works better without character development but the one off characters will always need character development and yet the makers of this cartoon put alot more thought and effort into the cartoons comedy then they did into giving its characters some character development but I really will admit this this cartoon really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy tats actually featured / presented to us in this very cartoon well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very cartoon was in all honesty really good/. To be honest here the cartoons comedy is perhaps where the cartoon does shine its best as while it isn't filled with the typical funny Looney Tunes word play it does have some really funny slapstick moments and seeing the bullies try these over the top ways to beat Bugs is pretty funny to see in its own right as we get to see some good gags be it Bugs distracting one of them with  picture of an attractive woman to one of them getting killed after saying he's got it with his tombstone even saying he got it bottom line being there are alot of jokes to be found in this cartoon. With the best one being the third act of the cartoon as that whole third act is where things get really over the top be it from one of the villains hitting a homerun by using a tree for a bat with Bugs then chasing the ball all through New York and encountering ne of the villains as his cab driver all of which comes to head when bugs finally catches the ball on top of a building with the umpire calling one of the villains out which then gets the statue of liberty to get involved and agree with the umpire, the whole third act is just one insane and over the top thing after another and it is something that really does work with the rest of the cartoons jokes being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall whilst this isn't the worst Bugs Bunny or Looney Tunes cartoon out there it is still a pretty bad and forgettable cartoon as outside of the jokes there's nothing that's all that memorable in the cartoon itself with it just being a cartoon that has nothing all that worth while in it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very cartoon in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very cartoon really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as fore where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Tenor , LooneyTunesWiki . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get the images from this very cartoon that I used in this very post being the really great Google Images really simply just due to the fact that really alot of if not really all of the images that are all really from this very cartoon with alot of them really being really better quality then what you'd really think of and all of the images are really of course up and really on Google Images really are also really all fairly high in quality and as well as them all being really fairly freaking high in definition and there's really only one way to end this review T-T-T-T-THAT'S ALL FOLKS.
