Scrubs "My First Time in a While" and "My Mentee" SPOILER FILLED Review

TV revivals are very hard to do as they have to attract new fans whilst also keeping the fans that the original show had in the first place. With one of the shows that got this right being the Scrubs revival from earlier this year so much so that people where happy when it got renewed for more episodes with the latest season not finally debuting and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the episodes that pretty much signal that a certain classic character might not make it out of this season alive and well with the episodes in question being called simply just "My First Time in a While" and "My Mentee" enjoy.

The plot of "My First Time Ever" is J.D. and friends have to come together to try and find out why the treatment for Dr. Cox isn't working and the plot of "My Mentee" is J.D. finds someone that he can mentor and Dr. Samantha "Sam" Tosh has to decide what her specialty is going to be. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the plots that are actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plots that are actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty really good. Both of these episodes do have strong plots with the plot for "My Mentee" of course being the more goofier and lighthearted plot when compared to the plot of "My First Time Ever" which starts out goofy and light hearted but then gets more serious as the episode progresses. This is something that the original show did really well as the original show always fond a way to have serious moments happen in goofy plots and while here the plot for episode one gets more serious it did start out goofy and its something that does show you that if you have people that cared about the original show involved with the new version then you do end up getting gold, yet with the plot of episode this was a plot that you could imagine being the plot of a more lighthearted show and therefor paring it with the more serious first episode does make sense and while episodes 2's plot is a little bit more weaker then the plot of episode one it is still a good plot in it's own right with the plots of these episode being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in these episodes is one of this shows executive producers Zach Braff as Dr. John "J.D." Dorian and one of this shows executive producers Donald Faison as Dr. Chris Turk. Also starring in these episodes one of this shows executive producers Sarah Chalke as Dr. Elliot Reid , Ava Bunn as Dr. Sam Tosh , John C. McGinley as Dr. Cox , Judy Reyes as Carla Espinosa , Christa Miller as Jordan Sullivan , Rachel Bilson as Charlie , Jacob Dudman as Dr. Asher Green , Layla Mohammadi as Dr. Amara Hadi , Amanda Morrow as Dr. Dashana Trainor , Robert Maschio as The Todd , Michael James Scott as Nurse Dubois , K Callan as Lillian Blue , J.P. Manoux as Dr. Meeko , Vanessa Bayer as Sibby Wilson , Joey Fatone as himself , John Higgins as Grant Summers , Daniel Thrasher as Dustin , Keyla Monterroso Mejia as Nurse Mimi , Vanessa Bayer as Sibby Wilson , Flavor Flav as Father Time and Tamera Mowry as Dr. Steffie.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the acting that are actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that are actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty really good. The fact that we have some really good acting in both of these episode is something that is not all that shocking as even in the last season the acting in every single episode was really good and yet here it felt like that all of the actors just stepped up what was already a really impressive and heck Ava Bunn was so good last season that she's now been upped to a main actor in this season and yeah she knocks it out of the park in both of the episodes more comedic moments but also the more dramatic moments as well. Yet she is not the best actor in these two episodes as that honor goes to John C. McGinley as Dr. Cox as episode one of this season proved that he can still play this character really well something which he did prove last season as well with him even getting a heartbreaking scene in the first episode where it looks like Cox is about to cry and yet earlier on in the same scene he's there making jokes and making you laugh this is the true magic of him as an actor as like the show himself he does have you laughing one minuet and can have you in floods of tears the next with him still clearly loving playing this character as it is something that does show in the episodes with his natural charm and charisma really shining through in his performance. With the acting that's in these very episodes really being helped by the fact that the scripts for these episodes is just so good that all these episodes actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in these very episodes.

As was to be expected with Ava Bunn becoming a main actor this season both of these episodes do have alot of spotlight on the interns. This is something that dies make alot of sense as now one of the main characters is an intern herself but at the same time tho none of the interns that we liked from the last season are given the spotlight in these two episodes with it just being Tosh that gets the spotlight and while this is fine as again she is a main character this season it still would have been nice if some of the others got some attention as what little we saw of any of them last season they all have the potential to carry an episode maybe if the show did what the previous show did and have an episode where someone else is the main character with J.D. passing the mantle of narrator to one of the lesser used interns. What little we get from the rest of them in these two episodes it does look like that nothing has changed for them as they all act exactly how they did in the last season which was fine for that season as then you had nostalgia on your side and the legacy characters could carry the show but there does need to be more thought put into the interns and giving them m0re screen time as at the end of the day they are the ones that will carry the show forward if the fans like them and the fact that the fan favorite Tosh is now one of the main characters does show you that the makers of this show are more then willing to listen to the fans and give the spotlight to someone who wasn't apart of the original show and heck she even gets some laugh out loud funny scenes in both of these episodes but the rest of the interns don't really get anything and feel more like set dressing when alot of them should be getting pushed to the forefront alongside the legacy characters and the legacy cameos.

SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first episode of this new season starts of something that I hope to god doesn't come true as it will be utterly heartbreaking if it does. That being the fact that they straight up hint at the fact that Dr. Cox is going to die by giving him this illness that the team are struggling to find a way to cure as his body just isn't responding to alot of the treatment and heck even in episode two there's a sequence where he gives alot of the characters some piece of advice to help them deal with there issues with the camera lingering on him just enough to make sure that we know that not everything is as it seems with him if this is the case and he is indeed going to die or be revealed to be dead at the end of the season then they have to him reunite with Brendan Fraser and if you've seen the original series you'll know why and if you haven't seen the original series then go and watch his episodes as they are heartbreaking to watch. It is something that would be fitting for both old and new fans alike as the old fans will get why Cox is now seeing Ben and the new fans will be left heartbroken because of what's going on on screen of course there is always a chance that he doesn't die and that he does get better but then if that was the case then why have him give the characters one last piece of advice and why have the camera linger on him and with this being Scrubs you know that there not going to have the character be OK or if they do it's going to be in the build up to having something tragic happen to them like maybe they reveal in episode 9 that he's OK only for him to take a turn for the worse at the end of that same episode and die during the tenth and final episode of the season with the last two episodes of the last season being very much focused on his character it would make sense for them to make Cox the focus of this seasons final two episodes if they are building up to his death.

To be frank here both of these first two episodes feel like the makers of this show are upping there game. As everything in both of these first two episodes feels like everything that they did in the first two episodes of the last season only now it's done better due to the fact that the makers of this show know what works and know how to make this version of the show this is something that does prove that people do still know how to make seasonal TV how do we know this because the first season of this show started and ended earlier this year there's no two or three year wait between seasons the makers of this show just got on with making with the show with the quality of the show not suffering if these two episodes are anything to go by. Yes there are some shows like for example House Of The Dragon or any effects heavy show that you can only make every few years but now we are getting comedies that are taking that long between seasons you shouldn't have to wait two or three years for a new season of a comedy show or a drama show as those by nature don't require alot of time to make and these two episodes are proof that you can still do a seasonal show and not have the quality suffer as there are scenes in both of these episodes that will have you crying one moment and then have you howling with laughter the next all because of the fact that they were made by people who not only know how to make shows every few months but how to put alot of thought and effort into each of them and how to make it so that you don't have to wait three years for the next season and yet we had to wait that long for the final season of Euphoria granted that was also due to it's main stars becoming house hold names but you still could have made that season a year after the second.

Out of the two episodes it does go without saying but the first episode is the more stronger episode due to the fact that it does have those more heartbreaking moments in it. This is not to say that "My Mentee" isn't a bad episode as its really not but when you compare the two episodes and watch them back to back the difference is night and day with even "My First Time In A While" bringing back another kind of legacy character that being J.D's scooter Sasha which was pretty fun whereas with episode whilst it is the more fun of the two episodes due to the fact that we get to see Ava Bunn being super fricking funny in that episode it is lacking alot of the meat that the first episode had with the second episode even making great use of Nurse Dubois by having him put on different voices just to get people to do what he wants which is a really clever idea and its one that could make for a really good running joke in this season if its done right. With episode one doing something that the original show might not have done and that's have Elliot openly and willingly tell Jordan off as Elliot does have a go at her for her stopping them doing there jobs and in turn stopping them from treating her husband Dr. Cox whilst Elliot was right for doing that as she was doing exactly that and this is something that Carla does point out to her Jordan in this case was also a scared patients wife and yes while Elliot was right for telling of her there was a time and a place and while this was the place it wasn't the time as neither person was in the right frame of mind as they both wanted the same thing and both of them were stressed out and the fact that Elliot does put a blanket over her at the end of the episode was a sweet moment between the two of them.

Now then episodes one and two of this show has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty one minuets and twenty nine seconds. Both of these episodes having the exact same running time is something that does make sense as both of the episodes have plots that don't really require alot of running time in order to tell there stories as they both tell stories that are very well contained within those twenty two minuets with every scene being about moving the plot forward with no scene in either episode feeling unneeded as while yes you do get scenes that are there to tell the fantasies of J.D. that's purely for comedic effects and with this being a comedy it does make sense that those scenes be in the episode with both episodes having more then enough plot there to really cover there respective running times. Heck both episodes even use there respective running times really wisely as they both do take the times to fully develop there respective plots as well as they could have done given there respective running times and while the opening scene with J.D. riding Sasha back to the hospital could have been trimmed to make way for more plot development it was still a good build up to a really good joke with both of the episodes putting alot of thought and effort into giving both episodes alot of plot development. The same thing is also true for the episodes character development as both episodes give alot of the characters a chance to grow and get character development be it something as simple as Tosh and Asher going public with there relationship or J.D. learning to give Grant a second chance as the person that he's going to mentor both of these are things that didn't need to be in there respective episodes and yet they were with the makers of this show giving alot of thought and effort into there respective characters character development but I really will admit that these episodes really do have some really good pacing to them tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's  actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty really good. With both of the episodes having alot of laugh out loud funny moments in them all of which di feel true to either the characters are the tone and spirit of the show be it something simple like Dr. Dashana Trainor yelling hand to Amara whenever she's about to say something stupid with Amara always covering her mouth with her hand that is a really good and funny joke and is one that could very easily become a good running joke this season and heck the makers of the show could even have other characters say it to her just to keep it from being to stale. With the best joke in both of the episodes being when Elliot goes to Cox for some advice in episode 2 and he just says that he'll give it if he gets killed and when he doesn't get killed he just looks up at the sky asking why and when he give out more advice in the same scene he again looks up to the sky and asks if someone hates yes this is a dark joke given what might be coming but it is still a really funny joke and is one that Dr. Cox himself would make which is something that really does make it feel true to his character and while there is alot of really painfully funny jokes with Tosh in both episodes this one with Dr. Cox stood out due to the fact that it is a darkly funny joke and it is one that really does work with the rest of these episodes jokes being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall not only is this season of a to a really good start but if these first two episodes are anything to go by then we are in for one hell of an emotional ride with episode one being the better of the two just due to the Dr. Cox stuff but episode two is the more funnier of the two episodes in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. ow then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in both of these episodes in this very review and really does mean that episode one of this season earns itself a grand old score of a exactly a 7.5 out of 10 and episode two earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get the images from this very episode that I used in this very post being the really great Google Images really simply just due to the fact that really alot of if not really all of the images that are all really from this very episode with alot of them really being really better quality then what you'd really think of and all of the images are really of course up and really on Google Images really are also really all fairly high in quality and as well as them all being really fairly freaking high in definition.
