Paddington 1976 TV Series "A Bear In Hot Water" Review

To say that Paddington is a British institution would be like saying that Doctor Who is a good science fiction show. As the bear with a disturbing Marmalade addiction is a huge part of British pop culture and with the review of the first episode having gone down well it only made sense to review the second episode in his most famous animated TV series and so then join me as I review the episode that sees Paddington having to deal with the trails and tribulations of having a bath with the episode in question being called simply just "A Bear In Hot Water" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is after finally arriving at his new home Paddington has to take a bath something which is easier said then done. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good with this episodes plot being a direct continuation of the first episodes plot as now we get to see what Paddington can get up in his new home with the plot of this episode being one that much like the rest of this shows plots is delightfully simple in it's approach to things as all the amin crux of the episode is is just Paddington trying to take a bath and that's it and that's great as this is a character that doesn't really demand deep and thought provoking plots to make his adventures work rather he just needs the basic set up for an episode and that's really it and that's something that this is episode does wonderfully and while yes it would have been better if there was more to this episode outside of that one set up and that's really it and to this episodes credit it does pull of this set up wonderfully so much so that it was even adapted into the 2014 live action Paddington film as well with the smallness of the episodes plot really being a testament to how well that these stories hold up as while yes granted next to nobody has a bath anymore it is still a timeless tale with the way that this episode handles it being charming in it's own unique way with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

Starring in this episode is Sir Michael Hordern as the episodes narrator with this episode making good use of him as a narrator. As he does describe everything that's going on including what the character is thinking which is something that does make this episode feel all the more charming then what it already is as it comes across as him reading us the story instead of him being paid to tell us the story which is something that is very easily could have done and it could even be argued that his narration helps to add a certain charm to the episode that might have been lost if someone else was doing it as he does add that extra special something to the episode and while yes it could be argued that the episode would work just as well without the narration as heck the two live action Paddington films work without a narrator this was the first time that the character had appeared in any other media and so he wasn't as well known back then as he was now and therefor giving the show a narrator does help to lend the episode some credibility as he was a fairly well known classically trained actor with it being helped by the fact that he does have the kind of silky smooth voice that is just perfect for narrating a kids TV show with his voice having a warm and kind hearted nature to it that works well for this show and while yes he does still use the same voice for alot of the characters in this episode here it was a lot less confusing as the episode was more about narration then it was about giving the characters a voice something which wasn't true for the previous episode where the episode relied more on the characters voices to tell the story and not the narration.

Now then as for what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With the fact that this episodes acting being as good as it is not really being all that surprising as Sir Michael Hordern was as previously mentioned a classically trained actor and therefor of course his acting in all of this shows episodes this one included was going to be that good and while he doesn't give the characters a lot of different voices in this episode something which is still a bit confusing he does try to do an accent with him giving Mrs. Bird a slight Scottish accent which is something that does pull off really well in the characters one scene in the episode with him by default being the episodes best actor as while he doesn't give the characters much in the way of different voices he does try to make his voice sound a bit more youthful when it comes to characters like Jonathan and Judy and yet when it comes to Mr. Brown he's a bit more stern sounding with Mrs. Brown being somewhere in the middle which are great things as even tho there small things to include they do help to make it easier to tell just which character is talking and heck it could be argued that Paddington has his own unique voice with him sounding more like a typical British gentlemen or rather how a foreigner thinks a British gentlemen might sound and it is sis something that does work for Paddington with the acting that's in this episode really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so good that all this episodes actor has to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of him naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode. 

Doing the animation for this episode really is the legends and the greats that are currently over at FilmFair. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good with the episode doing a really good job of mixing stopmotion 3D animation with 2D animation really well with there being alot of scenes in this episode that make you wonder how they managed to pull it off with the best example of this being the taxi at the start of the episode as not only can you see Mrs. Brown a 2D character in the backseat but if you look closely the taxi also casts a shadow and has a 2 D driver which combined should make it a pain of a shot to pull off let alone look good and yet that is a shot that does look really good as it blends together two very different elements and makes them look quite seamless with the episode having more of a focus on stopmotion animation this time around as alot of the episode does focus on Paddington with the stopmotion looking really good granted it's not on the same level as anything from Aardman but for the time that this show was being made and the fact that they pretty much had one person doing all of the stop motion that being Barry Leith with the episodes stop motion shockingly not taking a step down in quality from the first episode as it is something hat does look really good with the episodes stop motion actually looking alot more better then the episodes 2D animation does. 

Whilst this episode could be seen as being a nothing episode as nothing that's all that important happens in this episode what it does do is introduce the characters of Jonathan Brown and Mrs. Bird. As those characters were of course not in the previous episode and yet even tho this is there introduction episode neither character gets alot of time to showcase just what it is that there all about with Jonathan getting a little bit more screen time then Mrs. Bird as he runs the bath for Paddington and then warns the Browns when Paddington as left the bath running for far to long but that's really it as the last thing that Mrs. Bird does in this episode is say that she's going to make Paddington a Marmalade sandwich and that's it and to be fair given how little a plot that this episode has in the first place it does make sense that the new characters wouldn't get alot of screen time in this episode as the episode has to get along to the next plot point and to be fair to this episode the fact that all of it's character are fairly simple characters in there own right is something that does make them charming in the first place but in saying this it still would have worked really well if we he had gotten to see Paddington interact more with Mrs. Bird and with the other members of the Brown family as then we could have seen both sides trying to adjust to the new living situation something which the 2014 film would actually take the time to do as Mr. Browns arc for that film is trying to adjust to Paddington now being in his life and yet in this episode none of that was needed even tho it would have been fun to see what Mrs. Bird someone who is very no nonsense would think of Paddington in the first place.

While this episode does have alot of things that are working for it it does also have some things that are actively working against it. Like the fact that the episodes plot isn't the best that it could have been as it's just a continuation of the first episodes plot which is not a knock on that episodes plot it's just that that episode kind of wrapped up things rather nicely and granted it might have been done this way for both this episode and the following two episodes as they might have been done that way in the book that those stories are being adapted from which in this case is A Bear Called Paddington but what works in a book might not work in a TV show with the fact that the plot is a direct continuation being an example of this fact. With the other thing that doesn't really work all that well in the fact that none of the Browns offer to help Paddington when he's trying to work out how to take a bath as the kids tell him what to do and that's it and the parents aren't seen for the vast majority of the episode when one of them should have been there to help Paddington out as this would have been the first time that he's seen let alone taken a bath in the first place and so of course he wouldn't know either what to do or how to act in that situation and while it was fun seeing him constantly getting distracting while the bath was still running it is something that in the world of the show should have been stopped just by having someone by it a member of the Brown family or Mrs. Bird help Paddington out with this being something that would have hit home the fact that they all a bunch of loving and caring people in the process and yet the episode makes out that everything that happens in the episode is Paddington's fault and while that is true the rest of the family aren't blameless either. 

One of the oddest things that this episode does is have the vast majority of the episode all take place inside of the Browns bathroom. As while we do yes get to see the Browns living room and hallway and the outside of there house that's all we get to see in this episode and yet that is something that does oddly work for this episode as while it does make the episode look cheap given the fact that it was mostly being animated by one man having alot of the episode just focus on Paddington in this one location is something that most likely was done to save him doing extra work but in saying this tho it still would have been nice if we got to see more of the Browns house even if it was just in passing as then we could get to see where the bathroom is in relation to the families respective bedrooms thus making the scene where the bathroom does start to flood all the more dramatic as now we have to worry the families bedrooms and i could have had the added impact of making the house seem alot more bigger then what it actually as right now the house feels alot more small due to the fact that we don't get to see that much of it with this being something that could have been by having the Brown children showing Paddington where the bathroom is something which they do anyway as there in the bathroom with him when Jonathan starts the bath but we never get to see the landing we only get to see the bathroom and that's really it when it would have made more sense if the family were shown showing Paddington where the bathroom is and we actually got to see them doing it and yet for ne reason we don't get that and while it doesn't hurt the episode it is something that does make the Browns house feel alot more smaller.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly five minuets and three seconds. With this being a solid running time for this episode to have as this episode doesn't need that long of a running time in order to tell it's plot as this is a plot that has the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time and doesn't need to be longer then what it is with this episode even using it's running time very wisely as the episodes plot is as well developed as it was even going to be as the episode doesn't have that much there in the way of plot in the first place and therefor it doesn't need to be that well developed as the only thing that needs to be developed is the set up and that's really it and to be fair to this episode that's all it needed to be developed as this is a plot that along with the first episode and up to the fourth episode is telling one big story of Paddington getting used to life in London with this episode being nothing more then a small chapter in that story with the episode even developing it's characters as well as it possibly could have done as the episode doesn't really leave alot of room for the characters to get that much development in the first place and yet what little development a character like Paddington does indeed get works really well as we see go from not really knowing how to use a bath to using one in his own unique way which was something that did work for the episode with none of the human characters not really needing any character development as this is an episode that doesn't really require it from them but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have t actually talk about the actual comedy thats actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With this episode having alot of really cute and funny moments in it with the idea of Paddington trying and failing to use a bath being something that does allow for alot of really funny moments in it and to be fair to this episode it really does take as fully advantage of it's set up as is humanly possible by giving us alot of funny moments that do feel true to the character of Paddington with the best joke in the episode being at the end when after failing struggling to take a bath in his duffle coat because he wanted to keep himself dry Paddington again tries to take a bath only this time it's a dry bath with not water in it which is a really cute joke to have and is something that does feel true to the character of Paddington as he wouldn't know how to take a bath and therefor he would of course with the most ridiculous solution after struggling to take a bath in the first place and heck it could be argued that the whole episode is one big joke as there alot of moments in the episode that are cute and funny like Paddington falling in the sink or him deciding to use toothpaste to make his ears white after being told to clean them because there black with all of this episodes jokes working as well as they do because of the fact that Paddington himself is such a likable character in the first place which is something that really does make all of this jokes work really well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this episode really is one that whilst it really can be skipped over by Paddington fans is one that really shouldn't be skipped over due to the fact that we really get to see Paddington really being his usual charming self and the fact that we really get to see key side characters introduced with the episode itself being a really charming and funny episode in it's own right in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad thigs that are in this very episode in this very review that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.

Class: For Tonight We Might Die Review

When we think of TV Spin-off's of Doctor Who we usually think of two shows in particular those being Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures with us maybe sometimes thinking about that non canon K9 kids TV show from 2009 and the K9 And Company special from the eighties. However there is one spin off show that seems to have been forgotten and well with the Whoniverse launching a new more adult themed Doctor Who spin off next week not that you'd know about since they've barely been promoting it I thought that i'd take a look back at the first episode of this show to see if it was as good as I remember it being and so then join me as I review the episode that for a Doctor Who adult themed TV show is still shockingly violent with the episode in question being called simply just "For Tonight We Might Die" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when students start going missing and an alien appears out of a crack inn thin air it's up to a bunch of students and there reluctant teacher to team and save the day with the help of an old friend of the teachers and one her students.  Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad with this episodes plot basically being the typical plot that you'd think of for a first episode for a spin off show as it does spend alot of time in setting up the characters and in setting up the main plot of the show instead of setting up the main plot of the episode and while the main location in this case being Coal Hill School doesn't need setting up as the location is that well known in the world and lore of Doctor Who it would have been nice if the episode did spend a bit more time in setting up the main plot of the episode as while it is understandable why they spent time in setting up the characters and plot of the show none of that would matter if the plot to this episode isn't as good as it was with the plot to this episode being a bit on the weak side as it's not the strongest plot that they could have used to start this show off on as you do want to start out with your best foot forward the episodes plot was a good as it was ever going to be and to the episodes credit it does know when to focus on the plot and when not to as even the episode does reveal things that would have been better saved for later on in the series they do still work in the context of this episode with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Greg Austin as Charlie , Fady Elsayed as Ram , Sophie Hopkins as April and Vivian Oparah as Tanya. Also starring in this episode is Katherine Kelly as Miss Quill , Jordan Renzo as Matteusz , Ben Peel as Coach Dawson , Shannon Murray as Jackie , Aaron Neil as Varun , Natasha Gordon as Vivian , Anna Shaffer as Rachel , Paul Marc Davis as Corakinus , Nigel Betts as Mr Armitage , Pooja Shah as Miss Shah , Alex Leak as Kevin , Laura June Hudson as Mrs Linderhof and Peter Capaldi as The Doctor.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With all of this episodes actors turning in some really good performances something which is not that entirely shocking in it's own right as while yes granted alot of this episodes are at best very little known actors if you've seen this episodes actors in anything else other then this show of course then you'll know just how good that they could be which is very much the case for this episode as even tho in first episodes the acting is never as good as it would be in later episodes here the quality of the acting was already so high in the first place with all of this episodes actors turning in some really good performances and while it of course would be quite east to picture anyone playing the main characters the main actors in this episode do leave a long lasting impression on us the audience with even alot of them reprising their roles in the various Class Audio Adventures with the best actor in this episode being Greg Austin as Charlie as he is really likable as the character and yet at the same time there is huge mystery surrounding his character that makes you want to get to know more about him with Greg brining a certain boyish charm to the character and yet also showing a side to the character where he might have a more darker side to him both of which fit in really well with his character with the acting that's in this episode really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so good that all this episodes actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which s something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Doin the CGI for this episode is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Milk , BBC Wales Graphics and Real SFX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good with this episodes CGI more then holding it's own when compared to the CGI in Doctor Who with this being helped by the fact that whilst yes this episode is an effects heavy episode it oddly enough doesn't that much CGI in the episode with the episode using more of a blend between computer effects and practical effects which is great as it means that the episodes effects won't be dated as much as the effects are in few of the early 2005 episodes of Doctor Who for example and yet when the episode does use CGI it's done to create something that couldn't possibly be done for real like the way that the alien travels from his world to our world with the makers of this episode even adding in the little detail of there being a reflection on the schools floor whenever that method is used with the only thing that does let this episode down from an effects point of view being when the creatures want to kidnap someone as the shadow effect whilst it is very creepy looking doesn't look as good as it perhaps should have done and granted this was most likely because of the fact that this show wouldn't have had a huge budget and therefor didn't have a huge effects budget but for an effects heavy show like this there really should have been more effort put into that effect to make it as good as it could have been even more so when you take into account the aliens we meet in this episode are meant to be the series main villains.

As was noted near the start of this review this episode does feature Peter Capaldi as The Doctor with this episode being the only time that he appears in this show. While it does make sense for him to appear in this episode as he is the main shows main character he doesn't really do all that much outside of show up near the end of the episode to explain his connection to Charlie and Mrs. Quill and to charge Quill and the teens with defending the school in his absence and that's really it but to be fair tho that's all he really needed to do as he's not the main character of this show and having The Doctor appear to help out Quill and the teens is a good way to tell fans who aren't that big into the Doctor Who lore that the two shows are indeed connected to each other and it would have been far to distracting if he was in more of the episode as it would make the episode feel like just another episode of Doctor Who and not be it's own unique thing which for better or for worse was something that Class was successful in doing but it was fun seeing Peter Capaldi's Doctor interacting with the no nonsense Mrs. Quill with there back and forth near the end of the episode being really entertaining to see as was it being revealed that he rescued both Charlie and Mrs. Quill when Corakinus and the rest of his species called the Shadow Kin attacked there home planet killing almost all of it's inhabitants with The Doctor showing up just in time to save Quill and Charlie which was a nice way to give them a connection to The Doctor with that being something that he would do with him being mostly in character this episode as he does act how to expect this version of The Doctor to act altho he does act a little to dumb for my taste in this episode which granted he is prone to doing but here it kind of felt like that the makers of this episode kind of went over board with it where it became more of a way to tear down this truly iconic character.

What wasn't expected and was to be honest quite distracting was the fact that they mentioned both The Vampire Diaries and Buffy The Vampire Slayer within two maybe three minuets of each other. Which was only done because of the fact that this shows creator and this episode writer Patrick Ness wrote young adult fiction books before writing this show and that's really it which is fair enough but Buffy wasn't on the air and hadn't been the air for close to ten years when this episode was being made so it really makes no sense for him to have a line where the characters mention the show by name and even say that Coal Hill School is like the Hellmouth for that show as realistically the odds of them even knowing about the show aren't the best whereas they would know about and possibly even watch The Vampire Diaries with the line where they both get referenced just screaming of someone who is trying to hard to capture the young adult fanbase whereas if he just told a good story and cut out those references which do date the episode pretty badly then he would have been able to get that same audience more naturally but in saying that tho given that he has written for the young adult audience in the past he was the best writer to lead this show as no one would that target audience better then someone who was written several books for them them and to his credit that line where both of those shows get referenced are the only kind of cringy lines in the whole episode as the episode does have some rather mature elements to it all of which do work really well and are things that could only work in this more mature show as in Doctor Who they would just feel out of place given the more child friendly nature of that show.

Speaking of the shows more mature nature this episode really does hit you over the head with just how mature that it could be. With a character straight up getting stabbed in the back by Corakinus with the episode not only showing her being stabbed but also showing Ram her boyfriend get covered in her blood before he then losses is his own leg in a fight with Corakinus these are things that Doctor Who would never be allowed to show as that show is kids show whereas the main target audience for this show is teen to adults and with that does come the freedom to get away with alot more things and heck even Quill , Charlie and later The Doctor talk about committing genocide on the Shadow Kin with Quill being all or it and Charlie and The Doctor being dead set against it where as in Doctor Who while they would have characters talk about committing genocide just look at The Doctor's speech in Genesis Of The Daleks as proof of that they were always few and far between with those kinds of discussions never lasting all that long and being forgotten about by the very next scene where as in this episode it is something that does come back into play alot of the time with it always being brought up by Quill which is something that dies make sense as those were her people that were killed of as well with her always feeling angry for what happened and of course when the chance for revenge does come in this episode she would of course be the one that's all for taking it. It could even be argued that Corakinus's plan is also pretty mature as well as while we don't really get to find why he wants this Cabinet Of Souls one can assume that it's because he doesn't want the rest of Charlie's and Quill's race to come back which is something that does make him a good villain with the thing that makes him a terrifying one being the fact that not only does he kill a character in cold blood but that both he and April now share a heart thus meaning that neither can be killed with out killing the other.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly fifty minuets and twenty three seconds. Which for this show is pretty much there bogstandard running time and to be fair to this episode it really does need that amount of running time in order to set up both the plot of the show itself , the episodes plot and all of the shows main characters as well with the episode having more then enough plot there to really cover that amount of running time in the first place but does let this episode down is the fact that this episode really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as this episodes plot isn't as well developed as it really could have been with this being due to the fact that the episode does have so much to set up and it can't do that and still tell a good story when what the makers of this episode should have done is set up the main plot of the show in the next episode as that would free up room for the episode to further develop it's plot as it's no good in setting up the plot for the show when the plot of episode one isn't that well developed in the first place with this also kind of effecting the episodes character development but here it's also due to the fact that the episode does understandably have alot of references to Doctor Who which is something that does make sense for a first episode of a Doctor Who spin off but at the same time it does get in the way of us finding out things that develop the characters and make them more memorable then what they already are in the first place as the characters right now are decent but they do feel undercooked with us not really finding out all that much about them in this episode but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this a action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. While this episode doesn't have as much action as the typical Peter Capaldi episode of Doctor Who has what little action that this episode does has works really well with it being made clear as day that the makers of this episode are having a blast with coming up with creative ways for Corakinus to stalk and take out his prey with the episode feeling more like a high budget horror show then an action show alot of the time but yet when the episode does have some action then it is something that works really well in context of the episode with the best action scene in the whole entire episode being when Corakinus attacks the school during the episodes third act as that's when we get to see just how violent that he is with him killing of a character and brutally injuring Ram and yet even so the whole gang plus The Doctor do find a way to defeat as when April threatens to stab herself with a chair Tanya and The Doctor turn up all the lights in the school's gym and force him and his allies back into the void back to there own planet with it being Ram and that forces Corakinus back to his home world by hitting him with a chair with this being something that does show that an action can be made with a school setting and while it would have been nice if we got to see just how bad*s that Quill is instead of just being told it this episodes action does still work really well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while we will have to wait and see if The War Between The Land And The Sea is any good or not what can be said is that this episode does prove that you really can make a more adult modern Doctor Who spin off and still have it be good time for all involved in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in his very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Iron Man And His Awesome Friends: Enter The Iron Friends AND Amadeus Cho's Eggcellent Eggventure! SPOILER FILLED Review

It really does seem like Disney and Marvel have this weird thing for Riri Williams right now with the character recently being the main character of the disastrous Ironheart TV show. Yet now she's back as a main character in another show this time it's an animated show that's made for little kids and well given as I had nothin else to do today I thought that i'd check out the first full episode of the show and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the episodes that really tries to make the phrase armour up a thing with the episodes in question bein called simply just "Enter The Iron Friends" and "Amadeus Cho's Eggcellent Eggventure!" enjoy.

The plot of Enter The Friends is when Ultron starts stealing all of the kids toys it's up to the Iron Friends to stop him before it's far to late and in Amadeus Cho's Eggcellent Eggventure! when Amadeus accidentally causes his favorite Chicken restaurant to turn into an actual Chicken he and the Iron Friends have to stop this fowl monster before it's to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode weas in all honesty not that bad with the first segment "Enter The Iron Friends" having the stronger of the two plots even tho it is a pretty weak segment on it's own as nothing in regards to the episodes plot gets explained with things just happening for the sake of it but in saying that tho that is the kind of thing you expect from shows that are made for little kids these days and to be fair to that episode it is the more fun of the two whilst Amadeus Cho's Eggcellent Eggventure! despite being the better overall segment as the episode does have a moral at the end of it does have the more weaker of the two plots as the episode does try to make out that being helpful is a bad thing with both segments being really light on plot which again given who this is show is aimed for is kind of understandable but it is also something that stops both plots from reaching there potential as both plots did have the potential to be dumb but fun and stupid plots with the both plots also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Also starring in this episode is Aidyn Ahn as Amadeus Cho / Iron Hulk , Tony Hale as Ultron , Fred Tatasciore as Gamma / Iron Pup , David Kaye as Vision , Jess Harnell as Eggy , Charley Rowan McCain as Girl 1/ Kid , Abril Bellido as Girl 2 , Luke Lowe as Boy 1/ Civilian 2 , Cree Summer as A Shopkeeper , Rama Vallury as Skateboard Kid , Drake Yu as Boy 2(voice) and Decker Brooks as Civilian 2.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then on all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. As for a show that's aimed at very little kids the acting that we got in this episode wasn't as bad as it really should have been given the fact that they did hire actual kids to play the main characters as kids do nine times out of ten deliver very wooden performances and while the three main leads in this show aren't bad persay there also not that good either as they are at best passable with Mason Blomberg making for a semi decent sounding Iron Man and Aidyn Ahn being pretty good in this episode but out of the three of them it's Kapri Ladd who is the best one as she at least sounds like she's having a good time playing her character where as the other two just sound bored alot of the time with the episodes best actor being Fred Tatasciore as Gamma / Iron Pup as even tho he's only playing a dog in this show he really does make it count and while someone like Dee Bradley Baker would have excelled in this part due to the fact he's used to playing animals Fred Tatasciore does make for a decent dog with the acting that's in this very episode not really being helped by the fact that this episodes scripts are just so bad as they don't rally give any of the episodes actors anything to work with interms of what it is there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does hard the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Doing the animation for this episode is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Atomic Cartoons. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good with this episodes animation being alot more better then what you'd think you'd get for a show that's aimed at very little kids with all of the characters having the typical kids character look to them that makes them look alot more friendly to little kids with that being something that does oddly work for this episode as this is of course the first episode and the kids that are watching this show won't know who these characters and therefor giving more a more friendly look is something that does work for the episode with the thing that doesn't for this episode from an animation point of view being the fact that the backgrounds do look a little plain and generic like they could be the backgrounds to any kids TV show and aren't exclusive to this one with this having the add on effect of making the shows animation look even more cheaper then what it already is as while the characters are very expressive and they do have some very fluid movements to them the whole episode in both segments just have this air of cheapness about them as you don't really get to see anything that's all that expensive looking on the screen but in all fairness to the episode tho this episodes animation does come alive during the teams suit up sequence which is very bright and very colorful and is bound to make the shows target demographic audience really happy.

Incase you don't know this show is technically a spin off of show as it's a spin off of Spidey And His Amazing Friends. With the two shows even having a very similar look and feel to them and heck both characters even teamed up for a crossover special called Spidey And Iron Man: Avengers Team-Up! however tho where as that show only used characters that are actually spider people in the comics this show goes the opposite route as while it does make sense to have both Tony and Riri there as they are both iron people Amadeus Cho on the other hand is a Hulk and therefor him being on the team feels out of place even more so when you take into account that the show very easily could have used James Rhodes otherwise known as War Machine which is something that would make sense as he and Tony are meant to be best friends and while having a character with the word war in his name you very easily could have changed that to Iron Machine but for whatever reason the makers of this show thought it would be good to have a Hulk armour up in this show even tho it makes no sense even with the whole idea of these little kid Marvel shows being to get little kids into reading Marvel Comics so therefor wouldn't it have made more sense to have people who are actually Iron Men and Iron Women on the team much like what they did with the Spidey show and while this episode doesn't really do much to make Amadeus feel like a member of the team as he adds pretty nothing to the team this is something that makes you wonder why the makers of the show even had him be on the team in the first place and if they actually read a comic book before.

To be fair to this episode tho the second segment Amadeus Cho's Eggcellent Eggventure! is a fun segment. With the segment also kind of taking the time to give us a moral lesson that being that whilst it is nice to be helpful sometimes you don't need to be helpful and being helpful when you don't need to be can end up causing more harm then good which is a good message to teach little kids but the segment handles that message in such a way that it makes it look like that the actual message is don't be helpful ever as when Amadeus thinks he's helping the owner of his favorite food truck the owner does nothing to stop him with him only very weakly saying to stop and his friends just stand there and let him do it with it all being the under guise of him trying to help out a friend which is something that does make the message hard to understand even more when you take into account that Amadeus really doesn't do much either way to help get that message across as they very easily could have had the segment operate on a three strikes and your out type of situation where he tries to be overly helpful three times with it getting worse each time and then on that third time that's when the truck turns into a giant chicken as that would at least then show that the character is just doing his best to help out his friends and that would also not confuse the segments central message and moral as it is nice to be helpful to people and to help a friend out and that message does get lost in this segment but to be fair to that segment tho at least that segment does have a message where as Enter The Iron Friends doesn't have one which fair enough might be because of the fact that it's the shows first ever segment but at the same time tho for a show that's aimed at very little kids there really should have been a life lesson put in this episode.

Speaking of that first segment they did Ultron the best way that they possibly could have dine given just who this show is being made for. As there's no way to do the character any kind of justice in a show like this one with his main goal in the first segment being that he wants to to steal all of the kids toys from the city that the show takes place in and that's really it which yes granted might be a very one dimensional plan as he has no other end goal out side of that but in saying that tho he really doesn't need one as in these types of shows the simpler the character is the better as little kids aren't going to care about having fully formed villains that are creepy as that would give them nightmares as would even the Avengers: Age Of Ultron take on Ultron would as well and therefor just having him scooping up toys in what is basically a giant vacuum cleaner is something that does work for this take on the character however tho what would have made this take on the character all of the more appealing to little kids was if the makers of this show made this character a little bit more goofy not so much that his looses all threat and menace as a villain as due to dialog spoken in the episode he's meant to be the teams biggest foe but enough to sort of soften his edges for the shows target audience as he does have kind of a creepy design to him and therefor making him a bit more of a goofball is something that could have worked for this character with the only thing that really does work for this character being the fact there's not all the much to him as a character with even his design being very generic as he just looks like a generic kids robot character and not something that Marvel themselves would OK.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running tome of exactly twenty four minuets and five seconds. With each of the episodes two segments being a little bit over a eleven minuets each with each of the episodes having just about the right amount of plot there to cover there respective running times but in saying that tho both segments don't use there running time all that wisely as neither segment develops there plot which to be fair is kind of expected given just how simple that both plots are and while alot of shows that are aimed at very little kids also don't really develop there plots either it still would have been nice if either segment took the time to fully develop there plots but for whatever reason the makers of this show are more obsessed with making sure that the phrase armour up is known by it's kid audience an because of that the episodes already weak plots do come across as being even weaker with the same thing also being true for the episodes characters as they all do come across as being very one dimensional which is to be expected for characters in a little kids show but at the same time tho given the fact that at least one of these characters is a legacy character that alot of people love then there really should have been more effort into giving Tony Stark some character development as we know as much about all three of this shows main characters coming out of the episode then we did coming into the episode but in all fairness tho these types of shows don't typically give there characters character development as they like to keep them as simple as possible for there target audience but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. As while this show really can't away with to much from an action point of view what action we do get whilst it is very kid friendly it does also have some really good moments like with the Iron Friends having to use there wits to get Ultron to let them out of the trap that he got them in or Amadeus letting the giant chicken eat him so that he can take it out it's batteries which are on the inside of him all of which work as they do show us just how smart that these characters are with the best action in both segments being in Enter The Iron Friends where we see Amadeus , Riri and Tony all team up to take down Ultron in one big attack which is something that will always be cool to see as it's always cool seeing heroes team up to take down a foe with it working here as it's the first segment of the show and therefor having the best action scene in the whole episode in that segment does work as you want to start of with your best foot forward but in saying that tho whilst the action in the first segment was better the one in the second segment was more fun to watch just due to the fact that it's our heroes teaming up to take on a giant Chicken which is just campy enough that it works but it's also not so campy that the whole show looks bad because of it with even the ending to that action being pretty smart as well it's just that the action in the first segment was the more stronger out of the two in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall whilst this show won't harm any little kids that watch it's also hard to say if little kids will get into comics because of it due to the fact that the characters are so watered down from there comic boom versions that it would be jarring for a little kid to watch this episode and then read an Iron Man comic book for example but at the same time tho this is a pretty solid episode that is sure to please it's target audience. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.

Doctor Who: The Church On Ruby Road Review

There are some things that just go together perfectly with of those being Doctor Who and Christmas as alot of the time you really can't think of one without thinking of the other. While we won't be getting a Christmas special this year as we are instead getting the debut of the new Doctor Who spin off show The War Between The Land And The Sea that doesn't mean that we can't talk about Christmas episodes past and well I thought that i'd do just that with the episode that i'm going to be talking about today being a good example of one of the more better Russell T. Davies 2023 era episodes and so then join me as I review the episode that introduces us to a new companion with the episode in question being called simply "The Church On Ruby Road" enjoy.

The plot of this episode when a foster baby is taken by Goblins it's up to The Doctor and his friend Ruby Sunday to get her back before the Goblins eat her. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With this episode episodes plot being one that's perfect for a Christmas episode as it is light on lore for the show and isn't that dramatic in the grand scheme of things and is just the perfect episode that you could imagine being on over the Christmas season and that's great for this episode as this episode is a Christmas episode and therefor you can go to those more camp and fun places with the show that you perhaps can't go to in an episode of the regular show with the fact that this episodes plot is for lack of a better word camp being something that does oddly enough work in the episodes favor as this is the kind of plot that really could only work as a Christmas episode where as with an episode like Space Babies that episodes plot is to campy for a plot of a regular episode of the show and would have been better served as being the plot of a Christmas special in it's own right and while yes this episode might be light on plot again that's the kind of thing that you want in a Christmas episode and really isn't a knock on the actual episode itself with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor , Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday and Davina McCall as Herself. Also starring in this episode is Bobby Bradley as Denzel , Mary Malone as Trudy , Barney Wilkinson as The Policeman , Anita Dobson as Mrs Flood , Hemi Yeroham aa Abdul , Michelle Greenidge as Carla Sunday , Angela Wynter as Cherry Sunday , Gemma Arrowsmith as Ruth Lyons and Susan Twist as The Heckler.

Now then interms of what i personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With all of this episodes actors turning in some really good performances with this being something that does make alot of sense and yet is still also completely shocking as while alot of this episodes actors are some really good actors in their own there's alot more of them that are very little known actors as well and therefor it would have been foolish to expect good acting in this episode and yet that's exactly what we get and while of cause Ncuti does technically have the advantage here as he did play his version of The Doctor at the end of The Giggle he much like Millie Gibson is still trying to find his character and yet he still does turn in a good performance as the character and while it would have been very easy to name either one of them as the episodes best actor something which would have been well deserved as well the episodes best actor has to be Michelle Greenidge as Carla Sunday as she does have this truly emotional scene when Ruby has been taken out of time and she unknowingly breaks down infront of The Doctor as even tho she says she's happy with her current life where she's fostered much less kids then she had in the real reality it's clear as day that she's not that happy and all that is something that comes through not in just in the characters dialog but also in her body language as well with the acting that's in this episode not really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so bad as it gives none of this episodes actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that thee actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode. 

Doing the CGI for this episode is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Automatik VFX and Real SFX. Now then interms if what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good with the fact that this episodes CGI being is good is mainly due to the fact that this era of the show had a lot of Disney money put into it as well as the fact that the episode does have some really good effects companies working on it and while you don't really get to see that huge Disney money like you did the opening of The Star Beast for example it is still quite noticeable in this episode with them puling off shots that they wouldn't have been able to do in previous years and while the episode does have copious amounts of CGI as a show like Doctor Who has always been and will always be a heavy effects heavy show the episodes CGI is mixed in really well with the episodes practical effects almost to the point where you can't tell what was done for real like for example The Goblin King a character that you would be forgiven for thinking was done entirely in CGI but nope he was a practical character that had five or six people controlling him at any one time with the character only having CGI done to his eyebrows and ears and that's with even all of the Goblin characters being real people with the only real CGI effect in the episode being the Goblins ship which does look really good  and whilst it is something that could have been pulled off without the huge Disney money it is also something that works just as well with that large amount of money.  

There us perhaps one thing that this episode was either infamous or famous for depending on how you feel about it and that's the fact that it is has a song number in it. With the song being called "The Goblin Song" which was actually written by the episodes writer Russell T Davies look to be blunt if any episode of this show deserved to have a musical number in it it really had to be this one just due to the fact that this is a Christmas episode and therefor you do expect fun little things like that in Christmas episodes and to be fair the song itself is a really good song that was sung wonderfully by Christina Rotondo as the character Janis but what makes this song stand out is the fact that even tho it did get officially released as a single it's the TV version that actually has the extra verses in it as the single version of the song cuts out the verses sung by Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson which might have been because of the fact that they actually sung there parts of the song live on set whilst the rest of the song was obviously pre-recorded ahead of time with the song itself having this kind of Jazz like sound to it but whereas alot of Jazz songs is rather downbeat this one is actually kind of upbeat and is very much a song that you could very easily picture playing at a party with Christina Rotondo's singing really helping bring the song to live with the only thing that lets the song down is Russell's writing as while he does make for a good script writer he doesn't make for a good song writer as this song does feel rather bland where as if it was given to Murray Gold for example then he could have tuned in a much more better song just due to the fact that he's experienced with writing songs then what Russell is but with that being said this is a really fun filled song.

Speaking of The Goblins whilst they do make for passable villains in this special there also not the kind of characters that you can bring back without repeating what was done in this episode. As there whole thing was all about causing someone such bad luck that it makes it easier for them to kidnap a baby to eat and while that does make for a good villainous plot for them to have there's only so many times that you can tell that kind of story before it starts to get dull and boring but in saying that tho as villains for this special they work really well as while yes there are campy and silly that is the kind of thing that you want in a villain of a Christmas special let alone one that's being broadcast on Christmas Day and while it would have been nice if we got to see them be more scary and actually kill people instead of just hinting at it that is something that would go against there more goofy nature as these characters that are meant to be like the first villain in a video game in that there not be that scary and are there just to give you the basics of what a villain should be like and that's it but if you look at villain like the Daleks and Cybermen where for alot of the time they do tell the same kind of stories it's when they deviate from that that we get some of the best stories from those characters and that is something that the show won't be able to do with these characters with none of the Goblins apart from The Goblin Kind and Janis having a look that really stands out as all of the Goblins really just blend into one another whereas if you have a picture of popular Doctor Who villains your going to very easily pick out a Dalek or a Cyberman for example as they have these really distinctive looks about them which make them all the more terrifying whereas with the goblins it's only The Goblin King that looks somewhat terrifying and that's it.

Whilst The Giggle obviously introduced us to this new version of The Doctor this episode introduces us to his companion Ruby Sunday and pretty much all of this series side characters. With Ruby being the better of the side characters just because of the fact that we get to spend alot more time with her not only in this series of the show but in this episode as well with us getting a good glimpse into her life before she meets The Doctor something which really hasn't been done since Clara in series seven with it being made crystal clear that Ruby can spunky and can have a sense of humor about her and yet still be fragile at times and be a bit of ditz all of which does make her the best companion that this Doctor did have as she was perhaps the mist human companion that this Doctor had something which we see in this episode as when baby Lulubelle is in danger she straight away leaps into action without even thinking about which is the most human thing that she could have with The Doctor even calling her out on just jumping on a ladder that's floating in the air with both characters really balancing each other out as she needs him to show her that there's a world out there that's bigger then her hometown and he needs her t remind him of what its like to human with the rest of the episodes side characters like Carla and Cherry being fun little characters and while we don't get to hear alot about Cherry we do get some truly beautiful scenes with Carla all of which make it clear that even tho Ruby's story for this season is about finding her birth mother her actual mother the person her raised and who stayed up all night with her was Carla with the two of them having such a strong bond that when Ruby tells her to stay there just before she's kidnapped out of time Carla did exactly that in this new timeline she never went anywhere or did anything with her life because deep down she was missing something that something being her own adapted daughter Ruby.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly fifty five minuets and eleven seconds. Which is a solid running time for this episode to have with the episode even having the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time as well and while the episode doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as the episodes plot isn't as well developed as it really could have been due to the fact that the episode does have so much stuff to set up for the series itself all of which is stuff that would have been better off being in the next episode as this is an episode that has so much to do and it can't do them all and still a good story as well and while the episode also doesn't fully develop it's characters either this is something that's a little bit more understandable as not only is this is a Christmas episode and those don't typically have character development in them alot of the episodes characters appear in future episodes of the show with characters like Ruby and to a lesser extent Mrs. Flood getting there development in those episodes therefor they don't really need to get character development in this episode as they all start of strongly in the first place that all of the character development that they do get does feel very much in character with the only characters that don't get any kind of character development oddly enough being the Goblins themselves as we get to find out nothing about them and while this really wouldn't have been a bad things if they appeared in more episodes they don't and therefor they do feel like undercooked characters albeit ones that have the potential to be fun villains but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I gave to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With the episodes action being kind of the episodes down point not that it's bad or anything like that but rather it's because of the fact that the episodes action isn't as good as it really could have been with this mainly due to the fact that the episode does have so much stuff going on that the episode does become overstuffed with the episodes action suffering because of it as we don't get to have that much action in it with there really only being one action scene in the whole episode but to be fair that action scene is also really good with it by default being the episodes best action as when Ruby gets taken out of time as a baby we see The Doctor struggle to work out what's going around whilst everything from the Sunday's apartment changes around him subtly with him even having a heart to heart with Carla before going back to the Church on ruby road where Ruby was left as a baby with him stabbing The Goblin King with the bow of his own ship which was a pretty gruesome way for the character to die and yet at the same time it's really the only way that an action scene like that could have ended but in saying that tho given the fact that the action that we got was the budget friendly one as the original one had The Goblin King attacking the Sundays at home the action scene that we got was still fun even tho that action scene does sound all the more better in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.  

Overall this was a really good special with it being one that whilst it doesn't really rely to much on theme of Christmas outside of the fact that Ruby's birthday is Christmas Eve it still really is a really fun filled special that gives you all of the things that you both expect and really want in a Doctor Who Christmas special in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked abut all of the good and as well aa all o0f the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.
