Doctor Who: The Celestial Toymaker Review

To say that the Doctor Who animation line has been a huge success would be a huge understatement as it's been going on for well over ten years now. With the latest missing episode to be fully animated having just been released on DVD and Blu-Ray and well since there is a little tradition on this blog with me reviewing them as soon as I can do you all just knew that I had to check this episode the very first chance that I got and so then join me as i review that sees The Doctor play games with the episode in question being called simply just "The Celestial Toymaker" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when The Doctor , Steven and Dodo find themselves at the mercy of a bring known only as The Toymaker then the trio must complete various games in order to escape him once and for all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty rather on the weak side of things as it was hard to tell what the actual plot of the episode was even meant to be at times as it just felt like that the writer was just making stuff up as he went along but with that being said tho this episodes plot did show moments of greatness like the fact that The Toymaker can seemingly travel to anywhere he wants at will which would have made for a really sequence in the plot of the episode but for some reason the episode is instead more focused on Steven and Dodo and them trying to get the Tardis back then it is in actually telling a really well done plot and while the stuff with Steven and Dodo is good to see in small doses here it takes away screen time from The Doctor who feels like an afterthought and while yes there are logistical reasons for this it also has the add on effect of making this episodes plot just seem random and weird for the sake of being random and weird with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is William Hartnell as The Doctor , Peter Purves as Steven Taylor and Jackie Lane as Dodo Chaplet. Also starring in this episode is Peter Stephens as Cyril , Knave Of Hearts and The Kitchen Boy , Campbell Singer as Joey , King Of Hearts and Sergeant Rugg , Carmen Silvera as Clara , Queen Of Hearts and Mrs. Wiggs , Reg Lever as Joker and Batman star Michael Gough as The Toymaker.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. Which considering who is playing The Doctor and who is playing the The Toymaker isn't something that's all that surprising even more so when you take into account that the actors playing the shows main leads at this point had been in the show for quite a while at this point with even William Hartnell having been in the role of The Doctor since episode one of the show and so it is understandable that they would turn in good performances in this episode as they really would have known how best to perform there respective characters and how there respective characters would act in any given situation but what lets the acting down quite a bit is that the acting that fro those that are playing the characters that are servants of The Toymaker as there acting does come across as being quite wooden and robotic at times which fair enough might be the point but it is still something that does effect this episodes acting quality with the acting that's in this episode also not really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so bad as it gives none of this episodes actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does help to lower the overall quality if the acting that's in this very episode.

Doing the animation for this episode is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Shapeshifter Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time tho it also wasn't all that good either as while the 3D CGI does allow for the lip movements to be better matched then what they previously could have been it also gives us alot of freaky imagery and overall just looks cheap and while having freaky looking imagery is kind of the point given that this episode takes place in a world where next to nothing makes sense it does also make the product look off putting as well and while doing this episode in particular in this style does indeed make sense as this story does allow itself to have some creatively creepy looking visuals it's not a style that would work for all classic Doctor Who stories which means that if the BBC are to go this route for more animated episodes then they are going to have make sure that the story that they are animating requires visuals that look this creepy as otherwise all your going to do is just put people off of buying these DVD's and Blu-Ray as after all who is going to want to buy a DVD or a Blu-Ray that has alot of really creepy looking animation and characters designs in it.

As of this writing there is only one episode of this story still with us and that is episode four "The Final Test" which is in all honesty the best of the bunch. As that's the episode that has the most tension and actually features more of William Hartnell in it but at the same time tho it would be nice if the rest of this episode was to be found just so that we the audience can actually see this episode the way that was intended to be seen and not have to rely on somebody else doing the animation for it but given that the remaining three episodes are lost at best ad at worst destroyed it means that for now this animation is the closet that we'll get to ever seeing this story in it's completed form but with that said given just how average the rest of this episode is maybe it's best that the rest of this serial is lost as that means that people that are watching this show just to complete it can watch one solid episode instead of watching three average episodes and one solid episode as all that does is bring the overall viewing experience down quite alot as while there are some entertaining aspects in these first three episodes there all lacking that certain something that makes them feel like a Doctor Who episode where as the fourth episode whilst it is still lacking that extra special it at least has a tense final act where you don't really know what's going to happen next and it's that aspect of the episode that does make it better then the other episodes of this story.

What was really strange about this story is the fact that The Doctor barely features in it and while yes they do have a logistical reason for that in that William Hartnell booked a two week holiday it still creates this rather odd situation where we the audience are left watching The Doctor's hand in alot of his scenes and because of the fact that The Toymaker has also taken away his ability to talk as well as make him invisible we don't hear him either. As a result of that is the fact that The Doctor isn't as proactive in the plot as this version of the character was alot of the time as here he's just sitting back and watching his friends go from one dangerous game to the next instead of trying to find out ways no matter how small that they are to help them and it's not like in alot of other stories from around this same time period where if the actor playing The Doctor took a holiday that you really don't miss the character in the any of the story that they were filming at the time here because of the fact that they continuously cut back to The Doctor and The Toymaker playing there game us the audience really do miss The Doctor as a character and while William Hartnell's health was in a sharp decline at the time of filming the makers of this show really should have come up with a way to keep his version of The Doctor present and proactive and not have him literally disappear for two our of the the four episodes and while they did have a plan to have the character come back but played by a different actor and idea that was very quickly shot down it does show that they also really were onto something as they'd basically do the exact same thing when William Hartnell regenerated into Patrick Troughton as the end of The Tenth Planet a year later.

One of the more brighter aspects of this episodes is that of The Toymaker himself who is just such a gleefully menacing villain. With the character having the power to do whatever he chooses to whomever he chooses which means that when are characters are playing a game for there life then should they loose then they could become one of his servants and be remain trapped with him forever and it also means that all of our characters have remain on there toes as you never really know what The Toymaker is going to do next and what he's going through at you next something that the episode The Giggle actually got right as The Toymaker is the most unpredictable person in the room and yet the smartest person in the room in fact at one point script editor Donald Tosh actually said that The Toymaker was going to be revealed as a member of The Doctor's own race of people which is something that does make sense as even in this episode both The Toymaker and The Doctor say that they've met each other before this episode and so it would make sense for him to be a member of the Time Lords and heck you could even consider him the prototype for The Master as the two of them do share many similar characteristics as well and while The Master might be the better written villain it is still interesting to see the same kind of character actually debuted in the show about five years or so before he made his debut during the Jon Pertwee of Doctor Who.

Now then while I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember whatever this episodes grand total running time even was I do know that for a fact that this episode really does have an exact grand total running of roughly one hour and forty minuets. Which each episode being around about twenty five minuets in length with the story as a whole being four episodes in length which does work well enough in this episode as this episode really does have the absolutely right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time with it also being the right amount of episodes as well as there's no way in heck that you could stretch this story out even by one extra episode as the plot of the episode could end up being stretched thin and each episode in this story would start to become a bit repetitive at that point in time as well but at the same time tho with the extra running time it would mean that we'd get William Hartnell back in the plot of the episode much more sooner then what we already do in this episode and as a result of that is the fact that it would mean that The Doctor himself would be able to come alot more proactive in the episodes plot instead of just standing there playing a game with The Toymaker but tho that would mean that alot of the episodes would feel like filler and would ultimately end up hurting the story as a whole rather then helping it but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually feature / presented to us inn this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. As even tho alot of this episodes action does come in the form of whatever game that the characters of Steven and Dodo are playing at the time it is fun trying to see them work out not only The Toymakers riddles but also how to survive this game just so that they can become one step closer to getting the TARDIS back with the best game in the whole episode being the hopscotch game as that game at least in this episode gets very intense as your just waiting for the games villain Cyril to play some sort of dirty trick on Steven and Dodo and just seeing it build and build to the point where you can't wait to see there next scene was something that was really done but what let the action down in this episode is the fact that it's not really made all that clear just how The Toymaker lost his game with The Doctor as it is something that does get a bit confusing and it makes there battle of the minds seem more like an after thought which is something that does make alot of sense as The Doctor himself was oddly enough treated like an after thought in this very episode as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

Overall while it is great to finally see this story in it's entirety this story is just nothing more then an average story that could have been done alot better this is despite the fact that even for classic Doctor Who this episode also had a really small budget amongst other things as well all of which combine to make a story that is just nothing more then an average episode of Doctor Who in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.

Power Rangers Dino Super Charge "When Evil Stirs" Review

Back in the mid to late 2010's Power Rangers had this strange habit of making the second season of any of there shows have the word Super in the title regardless of if it made sense or not. While that trend did sadly continue with the season upon which the episode that i'm going to be reviewing today comes from it is also one of the only times where adding the word Super to the title actually made sense and so then join me as I review the episode that gives us more backstory for Koda with the episode in question being called simply just "When Evil Stirs" enjoy.

The plot of this episode whilst there enjoying there time away from each other all of the rangers are suddenly attacked and frozen in blocks of ice and so it's up Tyler and Koda to get all of there friends back and stop this returning ice cold menace once and for all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as it was the kind of plot that you'd expect the debut episode of a second season of a kids show to have in that it serves it's purpose of not only setting up the main bad guy for this new season butt also in reintroducing all of the hero characters in a way that makes sense as well but at the same time tho given that the plot of Dino Charge were all mostly really good with there being very few misses it's very easy to notice the sharp decline in quality in this episodes plot as it's clear as day that the writers for this episode just didn't have any ideas on what to do for a plot and so they just went with the most basic and formulaic plot that they could come up with only without adding any all that new to it with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Also starring in this episode is Michael Taber as Riley Griffin , Camille Hyde as Shelby Watkins , Davi Santos as Sir Ivan of Zandar , Jarred Blakiston as Prince Phillip III , Claire Blackwelder as Kendall Morgan , Ryan Carter as Heckyl , Richard Simpson as The Voice Of Keeper , Paul Harrop as The Voice Of Fury , Estevez Gillespie as The Voice Of Wrench and The Voice Of Curio , Jackie Clarke as The Voice Of Poisandra , Campbell Cooley as The Voice Of Mecha Voice and The Voice Of Snide , Gerald Urquhart as The Voice Of Iceage , Emmett Skilton as The Voice Of Professor Strickler , Ross Girven as The Voice Of Badussa , Charlie McDermott as The Voice Of Cloaked Alien , Geoff Snell as The Postman and James Gaylyn as Mr. Watkins.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. As even tho Power Rangers really isn't known for having that great acting in it when the actors in any episode of any season really get it right then they really do get it right as is the case with this episode as all of this episodes actors have had the entire previous season to really work out how best to perform there respective characters and that is something that is applied not only to this episode but to the rest of this season as well and while yes there is still some very dodgy performances in not only this season but also this episode the overall quality of the acting in this episode was really high as you can quite clearly tell then all of this episodes actors are a bunch of talented actors in their own right and that really is something that really did shine through in not only this episode but in both Dino Charge and in Dino Super Charge as a whole as well with the acting that's in this episode not really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so bad as it really doesn't give any of this episodes anything to work interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant o be in the first place which is something that really does harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Doing the CGI for this episode is the legends and the really greats that are currently over at PRPVFX Limited. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I inn all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad for the most part as even tho this show is made really cheaply you can still tell what was done in a computer and what was done for real with alot of the effects in this episode just looking very cheaply done with the above picture being a good example of that as it's clear as day that the effects just told the makers of this episode that they'll fix it in post and heck there's no shadow even being cast from the box either and while alot of the CGI in Power Rangers has always looked cheap and bad here it is something that did stand out a mile as it does take you out of the episode with it's CGI not even being laughably bad and yet while this episode does indeed have some really good CGI in it those most likely came from the shows source material Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger and were most likely not created for this show with the effects that were created for this show looking just OK at best and being down right bad at it's worst and while it is expected that Power Rangers has bad effects given the fact that's a very cheap to make show that doesn't mean that the show has to have bad effects as all you'd need is talented VFX artists and a half decent effects budget to make the effects in this episode be alot better then what they actually are.

One of the things that this episode actually gets right is the fact that it gives more backstory for Koda as we got very little of his backstory in Power Rangers Dino Charge. As here it's revealed that not only does he have a deep fear of ice but the fact it was Kendall and Chase that rescued him from the ice that he was froze in thousands of years ago and that his fear of ice comes from the fear of being trapped again this was a really good as it not only gives Koda who it could be argued was the least developed of the characters in the first season some much needed character development but it also gives him a fear that plays into the plot of this episode in a natural and organic way instead of being something that comes out of nowhere as it would understand for someone to have a fear of something that they've been trapped in for a long period of time and while the episode really does nothing with this information and nothing new is revealed about who Koda is as a person the fact that he was given this backstory does show that the creators of this show and the writers of this episode really did understand that in order to make a good show you need to have characters that you actually care about and they chose not to dumb down the show for there kid audience something that they very easily could have done and yet it still would have been nice if earlier on in the episode we got to see Koda acted scared when Iceage was first attacking him instead of having him act like his normal self as that only means that his fear of ice was only added to the plot just for the sake of having another ranger there to tell Tyler what's happend to the rest of the team and that's really it.

Something that really doesn't make sense not only in this episode but in the rest of this season is the location of the Magna Beam. As during the first it was very firmly located underneath the ship we know thins because of the fact that we saw it in most episodes and yet here for no reason whatsoever it's now located at the top of the ship this normally wouldn't be a huge issue as you could write it off as it being apart of the pretty bad writing that Power Rangers is none for but at the same time tho these two seasons of the show went to great lengths to actually explain alot of things away in a way that made sense and so it's odd to seem them suddenly go back to that old Power Rangers style of writing and not really explain something that we're going to be seeing in every episode and what's worse is that they literally could have one of the monsters explain it away with a throwaway line by saying just by saying that they've done some work to the ship and as such the Magna Beam is now located at the top of the ship and that's it and best part is it wouldn't take that long to record or film as both could have been done in less then a day but as the makers of this show chose not go that rout we are now stuck with something that whilst it does indeed include a pretty cool visual when the monsters do grown to giant size it is also something that can be kind of seen as being a continuity issue as that's not where it was located in the previous season of this show.

This episode does also see the fan favorite villain Heckyl take center stage as the main villain for this season. While the villain was introduced in the second to last episode of Dino Charge it's this episode that sees him become the main villain and that right there is some very good storytelling as they've already established that he exists as a character in this world by having him already fail to defeat the Rangers and yet they still make him look like one of the strongest and certainly one of the more smartest villains that Power Rangers has ever produced as Heckyl's best gift isn't his muscles it's his brain something that we see in not only this episode but also in future episodes as well as he actually outsmarts the Rangers in there civilian forms on several occasions even getting to see the inside of there base with this character coming across as a villain that is always thinking two or perhaps even three steps ahead of everyone else and while the show does slightly slip up on this character in some episodes there's no denying the fact that his debut/return in this episode is not only really awsome and cool to watch but it's also one that sets him as a character that knows what he wants and will do anything to get it and that is something that this show has needed for a long time and because of that it's not that hard to see why the fans of this show liked this character as he was just such a cool and charismatic villain who you were actually glad to see pop up on screen.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty three minuets and thirty four seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running time for this show to have with the episode really having more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time but at the same time tho some of this episode did feel like filler like the scene with Tyler at the beginning just going over the key events of Dino Charge really wasn't needed it's understandable why they did put it there because it was to catch us the audience on the plot so far but at the same time tho every single episode after this one has a shorter version of it and so there really was no need to have a recap in this episode as all it does is take valuable screen time away from developing the episodes plot and in catching us up on what the rest of the Rangers have been up to as everyone apart from Tyler Shelby don't get alot of screen time to show us what they've been up to since the events of Din Charge and whilst that might not be necessary in the grand scheme of things it does also serve as a way to reintroduce all of the key characters in ways that feel natural and organic as well with the only part of the Tyler scene that should be kept is the part where he mentions that he's still looking for his dad not because of the fact that add's anything to the plot of this episode because it does't but because it adds to the plot of an episode that aired not that long after this one did but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho. 

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us n this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. As the episode does gave some really cool looking fight scenes in it both from the American side of things and the Japanese side of things as well but at the same time tho none of the other Rangers get a chance to show of what they can do in a fight in this episode heck some of them barely get a line of dialog in this episode which does make there inclusion feel like that they had to do it because of the Sentai footage and not because of the plot but with that being said it is still really cool seeing seven of the ten Dino Charge Rangers not only fighting together but also morphing together for pretty much the first time and while Kendall doesn't have that good fighting skills she still does more then hold her own when she's morphed with there also being alot of really cool moments during this episodes action with it really being helped by the fact that this is the start of a new season and so of course the action in this episode isn't going to be as good as this episodes action really was just used as a way to reintroduce us the audience to the Rangers and that's really it and in that respect it did it's job really well but it's also something that really could have been done alot more better then what it actually was done in this episode in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Harley Quinn: The Animated Series "The Big Apricot" SPOILER FILLED Review

After a good while waiting between series the new series of the acclaimed Harley Quinn: The Animated Series TV show debuted just a few days ago. While i've never seen every single episode of the show I have kept up with the storyline here and there and so even I was kind of excited to see this new episode and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the episode that sees Harley and Ivy move with the episode in question being called simply just "The Big Apricot" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is Harley and Ivy sneak into a museum dedicated to Superman because Harley just wants to get him to say thanks for her saving him. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as it did a good job of setting up the main plot for the season as well as being the kind of story that you'd expect from this show at this point in time but the issue is tho is that this episodes plot really doesn't do anything fun and unique with it's setting and set up with the kind of things that you think would happen given the episodes premise happening and happening in the exact way and order that you think that they would do and heck even the episodes big twist reveal was one that you could see coming a mile away all of which does make this episode seem kind of predictable and that is something that really shouldn't happen with these characters you have permission to go and do wacky and outlandish things and that's when this show really does work but here it doesn't do any of that for the most part and instead plays it safe which works more against the episode then it does for it with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Also starring in this episode is James Adomian as Clock King Skeleton 1 and Eclipso , Diedrich Bader as Bruce Wayne and Automation Sentry , Briana Cuoco as Oracle , Natalie Morales as Lois Lane , Aisha Tyler as Lena Luthor , Jim Rash as The Riddler and A Waiter , Cherise Booth as Catwoman , Tisha Campbell as Tawny and A Manager , Drew Massey as Jimmy Olsen and Performer 1 , Katie Rich as Enchantress and A Child and James Wolk as Superman.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With the actors that you expect a great performance really giving us exactly that and that is something that really does make sense as alot of this episodes actors have been in this show from the very beginning and as such they really would know how best to perform there respective characters and while yes there are a few dodgy performances in this episode this episode those bad performances don't represent the overall majority of this episodes acting with it being painfully obvious that Kaley Cuoco pretty much just IS the voice for this adult animated take on Harley Quinn as she just captures the character so beautifully that it really is hard to picture anybody else playing the character in an adult animated TV show or movie as Kaley Cuoco is just that good not only in the show as a whole but in this episode as well with the same thing also being true for Lake Bell as well as she just works as Poison Ivy with the acting that's in this episode really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so good that all this episodes really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very done in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as the show already had some really high quality animation anyways with this episode more then matching up to that and while it doesn't surpass the animation quality of the previous seasons you can still tell that the animation team that were working on this episode had a blast making it and that they have a passion for all of the characters in this episode which is something that does shine through in the final product with the episodes animation also having alot of detail in backgrounds like the fact that Gotham is pretty much hell on earth and so the animation for those scenes includes things that would put alot of people visiting and yet when they get Metropolis it's this utopia type of place where everybody likes everyone else and it's that great attention to detail that makes the animation in this episode really stand out as it would have been super easy for them to just phone it in and turn in something that's not that good but the very fact that they didn't really does show you that everyone involved with the making of this show deeply loves those characters and the world that this show takes place in.

There was one actor that was left off of this episodes cast list and that's the fact that this episode marks the debut of Sir Stephen Fry as Brainiac. With the character only appearing in one scene at the very end of the episode with him pretty much confirmed to be the big bad for this season which whilst it is good casting and while Sir Stephen Fry does indeed turn in a solid performance in the few moments that he's one screen it's apart of a reveal that you can see coming a mile away as it's pretty obvious that someone is trying to make Harley and Ivy out to be bad guys in Metropolis and so when they reveal that it's Brainiac it's not as shocking as perhaps the makers of this show had wanted it to be as it's something that is very clearly what's going to happen the only way that they could make a reveal like this work was if they revealed that Brainiac was working for someone other then Lana as that would be far to obvious of a choice given how she acts in this episode but at the same time tho it would be interesting to see this new take on Brainiac in action and to see what the makers of this very adult show do with him as there are quite alot of things that they could with the character given the fact that this show is an adult show and given that Sir Stephan Fry is a comedic actor then you just know that the makers of this show are going to hopefully take full advantage of that and give Brainiac some really funny lines as well.

If you ere excited to see Superman appear in this show again then get ready to be let down as he does nothing of note in the episode. In fact he doesn't do anything that actually effects the main plot of the episode with him just appearing in a few scenes the first of which is at the museum where he arrives and hears Jimmy screaming but when he goes to help him he finds that one of the automation sentries has already helped him and his second scene is little just him talking to Harley before flying off again and that's it which is a shame as seeing Superman swearing could have been funny and yet the makers of this show don't take that plunge and instead just have him show up and leave and that's really it and heck both of his scenes are so pointless to the plot of the episode that you could have left them out of the final cut episode and nothing that's actually important to the actual plot of the episode would have been lost as that's just pointless his scenes are in this episode and when you have a character that's as iconic as Superman appearing in an episode that's quite literally all about him having effectively be a minor character in the episode really does't make that much sense and it would have made more sense if he was a main character in the episode as that would not allow to show us the audience just how funny this new take on Superman could quite possibly be but it would also allow to see what this take of Superman is like in action which makes sense given that he straight up says that he's going to take a holiday at the end of the episode.

As a comedy this episode does work really well as there alot of really funny jokes really early on in the episode. All of which do feel like that there are the kinds of jokes that thus show would have made back in it's first season and yet when the show moves the characters out of Gotham to Metropolis the jokes whilst they are still funny don't really land as much as the really could have done like for example Harley's subplot in this episode in this episode is to get a thank you off of Superman for her saving his life one time and yet the episode does nothing funny with it like how funny would it have been to have them meet each other more then the one time that they do actually meet up in the episode only for him to fly thinking that he can help somebody and for Harley to get more and more frustrated every single time that's funny and it would have been very in keeping with her character but because of the fact that the episode only has them meet them once at the end of the episode they can't do anything all that funny with it except for having Superman fly off after Harley saves him again and that's really it and that's not that funny and this episode does have jokes all throughout it that are like but when this episode does tell a really funny joke it is something that does land and land hard like the fact that according the people of Metropolis the people who live in Gotham are just hideous people who don't know how to look after themselves and that is a really joke.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty two minuets and fifty five. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running time for this show with this episode really having the right amount there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time and while yes it would have been better if this episode did have a slightly longer running time as this is a streaming show they really could have pushed this episode to thirty minuets even if it's just fit in more jokes if they did do that then the plot of this episode would stat to be getting stretched rather thin and the episode would have alot of scenes init regardless of if they were actually funny or not they would also feel like filler and as such this episode is perfect with it current running time as it means that every single scene has to be about advancing the plot of the episode and as well as setting up the plot for this season but it also would have been if this episode was slightly longer just so that we could get to spend more time in this world and with these characters but the plot has to always come first first and if that means that the plot demands having a shorter running time as you really can't expand on this episodes plot in any meaningful way then  so be it as at least this way we'd get an episode that isn't chocked filled to the brim with filler and is more about advancing the actual plot of the episode but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho. 

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I gave to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt hat the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With this episode having some really fun filled action sequences all throughout it's running time with the best one being the scene where both Harley and Ivy dressed as acrobats for the Superman museum have to fight off a bunch of automation sentries whilst trying to steal a box that's important to Superman with that action sequence also leading to some pretty funny lines between the pair as well and it's during this action that the animation for this episode really does come alive as it makes what could have been seen as being a flat , dull and boring action scene suddenly be the best scene in the whole entire episode as it's one where you not only get to see the episodes already high quality animation be at it's best but it;s also where you get to see the characters just being themselves all of which combine to make a really fun filled action scene and it is something that really does make you wonder if the rest of this season action will be like that as it this episodes action really is just that good and is just that fun to watch as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall whilst this was a really good first episode it's also an episode that could have been done alot better and while the nearly two year wait for this episode was worth it as it means that we got a good episode out of it alot of that really should have been spent on making this episode as good as it really could have been as there is alot of potential in this episode to be a good episode but for one reason or another it's just can't or at worst doesn't want to live up to that potential in my freaking opinions anyways / anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Godzilla: Planet Of The Monsters Dubbed Film Review

When people think of the Godzilla films they usually just think of the live action films and nothing more then that which is something that really does make sense as there are quite alot of live action Godzilla films out there. However there really are also some animated Godzilla films out there as well and those films really do deserve to be talked about just as much as the live action films are really regardless of there quality and so then join me as I review the film that saw the king of monsters make his animated feature film debut with the film in question being called simply just "Godzilla: Planet Of The Monsters" enjoy.

The plot of this film is several thousands years after humans abandoned Earth after it was attacked by Godzilla a small ragtag group of humans return and land on the planet hoping to take it back from the king of the monsters. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time tho this films plot really isn't all that good either as while the concept is a good idea where that idea fails is in it's execution as this films plot is at best wafer thin with it just coming and going as and when it pleases with the plot of this film also being really underdeveloped and not being all that well thought out with the film just relying on it's concept to make it's plot to seem interesting instead of actually giving us a good and well thought out plot and yet when the plot does get good it just comes across as being fan service as all there doing are referencing things and creatures from both previous Godzilla movies and the other two Godzilla animated movies which is great for those movies but at the same time it does nothing for the plot of this movie either with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Chris Niosi as Haruo Sakaki , Lucien Dodge as Metphies and Edward Bosco as Martin Lazzari. Also starring in this film is Jamieson Price as Mulu Elu Galu Gu , Rich Brown as Rilu-Elu Belu-be , Cristina Vee as Yuko Tani , Robbie Daymond as Adam Bindewald , Ray Chase as Eliott Leland , Keith Silverstein as Unberto Mori , Doug Stone as Halu-Elu Dolu-do and Joe Ochman as Endurphe.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Which isn't really something that's all that surprising as alot of this films actors are a bunch of really good actors and have proven that time and time again in various projects but alot of them just come across as either being wooden or horribly miscast with it seeming like that the producers of this films dub were casting these actors on name recognition alone and there for didn't bother to have them audition because if they did then they would have cast this movie alot more differently as Lucien Dodge doesn't make for a good Metphies and Edward Bosco makes for a dull Martin Lazzari with each actor being better suited for the others role and while Cristina Vee is a good voice actor here she's just not given all that much to do and so she feels like she there just for the sake of being there and not really because of the fact that her character actually adds anything to the plot of this film with the actual acting in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films films script is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the animation for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Polygon Pictures. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films animation being alot better then what it really had any right to be as with 3D CGI anime the end animation is very usually a mixed bag 'with it not really being something that audiences want and yet with this film it looks terrific and it more then holds up over seven years later with this film animation looking just as good as anything that PIXAR has put out recently as here you can tell that there was a lot of effort into making the king of monsters animated feature film debut look as good as it really could have been and while the film really doesn't take as full advantage of the fact that it's an animated film that doesn't change the fact that when we get to see something look truly wonderful with even Godzilla himself looking really good in animation and while yes there are alot of truly nice looking things in this films animation that doesn't mean that the animation is perfect because it's not as there are a few shots early on in the film that do look kind of rough almost as if the animators just ran out of time to work on them and that kind of thing does lower the animation quality down just a little bit.

While the human characters in the live action Godzilla films are never the most interesting part of any Godzilla film. They do at least have more then one emotion which is sadly not the case for this films lead character Haruo Sakaki whose only emotion in this film is that of anger which is something that does make sense for the film but at the same time tho he's meant to be the main character of this film and yet the film gives no reason to care for him but it gives us plenty of reasons to hate him which makes him come across as being a really unlikable character and while this film is a story told over the curse of three films and so he does learn to soften up a bit over those two other films there should have been more of an effort put into making him a more likable character in this film as he is the one that we're going to be spending alot of time with over the course of this trilogy and there making him a more likable but edgy character would make sense but what doesn't make sense is making him someone who you can't stand to be around because of the fact that he could snap at you at any moment if you so much as looked him wrong with the rest of the characters also just having one emotion which makes them seem like after thoughts and as we're meant to be spending quite alot of time with these characters there should have been more of an effort into making them all more fully formed as characters and into giving us the audience a chance to actually like them rather then hating if not all of them then at the vert least most of them.

For some strange reason the makers of this film thought that it was a good idea to copy what Godzilla 2014 did and spend alot of the time with the films human characters. While yes granted films like both Godzilla Minus One and even Shin Godzilla also do that but they also knew to spend just as much time with Godzilla as he's the one that people are actually paying to see and yet in this film Godzilla doesn't get that much screen time and he's the title character which makes him feel like a side character in his own story and heck the plot of the film even revolves around him and while this does allow for the film to showcase it's truly stunning backgrounds it also means that we have to spend alot more time with some really unlikable character when it would have been far better if they got to the Godzilla stuff alot more sooner as it takes a good while for Godzilla to show up when the humans land back on earth and while yes we do get to see alot of him in flashback scenes in those scenes he's quite literally a still image for the most part apart from the scene where it's strongly implied that he killed Haruo's parents but that's not what we want to see from Godzilla we want to see him blowing stuff up and causing chaos and yet it takes a good while for us to actually get to that which is something that does bog this film down quite a it as we are forced to watch alot of boring and pointless scenes that go nowhere and add nothing to the overall plot of the film.

To give this film some credit it does look very visually stunning and the fact that the story is something new even to the Godzilla franchise is to be admired. However at the same time tho this film does feel like a waste of a good idea as the idea of having humans loose the earth to Godzilla and then return years later to try and take it back from him is a really solid idea but the film doesn't go all the way with it's idea as the film is instead more focused on setting up things that won't pay off until either the second or third films in this trilogy which makes this film feel alot more like an extended trailer for those films when alot more time really should have been spent on developing this films ideas and having alot of the scenes from earlier on in the film like the death of Haruo's grandfather play apart of who he is as a character instead of him barely even mentioning that someone who looked after him for TWENTY PLUS YEARS has just been killed right infront of him as that then would be an interesting angle to take that character in and while yes the film does have some entertainment value when it gets to the stuff with Godzilla you still have to sit through alot of painfully long and boring scenes with the characters just sitting and talking and that's not something that you want a film is as short as this one is as every single scene needs to be advancing the plot and advancing the characters and that mean getting rid of all of the stuff that makes the film dull and boring and instead get to the stuff that people want to see and even expect to see in a Godzilla film.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and twenty eight minuets and thirty seconds. Which is a really solid running time for this film to have as alot of the later sixties and seventies Godzilla films did have very similar running times or this film to have and while this film really does have more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time this films story really should have been wrapped up in one film as the film only has enough plot for one film let alone and entire trilogy of films and while the film does make as a good a use of it's running time that it really could have due this is film that really should have been a lot longer as then it would have been able to have the characters get the development that they really did need it and would hopefully allow them to be more likable characters but at the same time tho it would mean sitting through more boring scene after boring scene with nothing actually happening to advance the actual plot of the film which is something that could've only have been fixed with a re-write of the films script and not something that could've been fixed with adding more time to the film as that would only make those issues bigger as now we'd be forced to focus in on them alot more and while yes this film does indeed get exciting it's also film that doesn't know when to cut down on the boring and pointless scenes either as those are scenes that really do bog this film by quite a bit and can at times make this film feel like it's not only a chore to sit through but also feel like that it's quite alot longer then what it actually is but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

As it's during this films action that the film not only gets to be really exciting but also shows some promise as it shows us that the human characters actually have to try and work together to even get close to damaging Godzilla where as he can just stand on them and swat away whatever being fired at him like there flies which was an interesting angle to take as it's something that we the audience really haven't seen before in a Godzilla film as alot of the time we just get Godzilla smashing down buildings and that's really and that's great but it's not something that can be done with this film and so we have to get something new and creative from this films action as they can't even show us Godzilla fighting another monster either and what we get out of it whilst it might not be the best action in this franchise it is still some really entertaining and it's something that does take as full advantage of the fact that it's an animated film by doing camera moves that would be impossible to do in live action which might be a small thing but it's something that really does go along way to making this films action as entertaining as it really could have been as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this entire Godzilla anime film trilogy might not be the best of Godzilla media out there it's still alot better then the 1998 American Godzilla film but this is a film that also really could have been alot better then what we really ended up with as the concept alone was more the enough to make the film work and yet for some strange reason this film really just doesn't work at all in anyway whatsoever in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as being as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

Worzel Gummidge Down Under "Wattle Hearthbrush" Review

It's been quite a while since an episode of the really classic Worzel Gummidge TV series was last covered on this blog and even longer since an episode of it's sequel series Worzel Gummidge Down Under was covered. Well it was about time that another episode from Worzel Gummidge Down Under  really was covered in this blog and well then I think I found an actually really funny episode from the sequel series really bad second series and so then join as I review the episode that sees The Crowman trying to make a female scarecrow with the episode in question being called simply just "Wattle Hearthbrush" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when the local Nuns need a female scarecrow built to scare of the birds The Crowman has to make it for them and Worzel is only to happy to show her the ropes in the best way that he knows how. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that and as it was easily one of the more better plots that this shows second series had but at the same time tho it is still lacking that extra special something that made the original series standout and alot of that does come from the fact that original series writers Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall had left this show with each episode being written a rotation of New Zealand writers and while it doesn't show in this episode as the plot of this episode was really well done alot of the episodes during this shows second series were really bad plots with the plot of this episode being an example of this show being done right as it shows that the makers of this show could still make a really funny Worzel Gummidge episode without dumbing down the concept something that is seen all throughout this second series with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Also starring in this episode is Caroline Hutchison as Sister Mary Aloyishes , Olivia Ihimaera-Smiler as Manu , Prue Langbein as Sister Agnes , Jonathan Marks as Mickey , Power Ranger star Bruce Phillips as The Crowman and The Willies star Ellie Smith as Wattle Hearthbrush.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. Which for this shoe show isn't really all that new as as even this sequel show did always have some really good acting in it even in the episodes that weren't directed by series regular director James Hill the quality of acting was always really high and that is something that really does shine through in this episode as Jon , Bruce and Ellie have to basically carry the entire episode on there backs and they all do so wonderfully and while yes granted the acting in this episode isn't as good as the acting in all pf the episodes of the original series considering the fact that this series of the show is known for being quite bad and this second series is known for being really bad then the fact that we managed to get an episode that does have acting quality that's up there with some of the worse episodes of the original series is still something to behold and it is something that does go to show you that this episodes actors are a bunch of really good actors in there own right as well with the acting that's in this very episode not really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so bad as it gives none of this episodes actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first which is something that really does affect the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

In what was a shocking thing to find in this episode is the fact that there is a scene around the middle portion of the episode that does hearken back to the dark and almost gothic nature of the original series. With Wattles naming ceremony being done in way that does make you think of the shows more dark nature which is something that should have been in more of this show as the original series could get quite dark and quite gothic at times and yet none of that very rarely if ever made it's way to Worzel Gummidge Down Under seemingly for reason whatsoever and yet when the show does use those more darker elements like they do in this episode then we get some really great scenes out of it with those scenes being ones that stick with you the longest as there something that really do catch your attention and keep you hooked on the episode and while in this case it was just The Crowman naming a scarecrow something that we had seen done before in the original series it was done in a way that not only reminds you that the two shows are connected but it also goes to show you that when this series really did want to that they could then make something that really would fit in right at home with the original series as well which is something that does work in this episode as this episode is all about not only celebrating what came before it with Worzel himself acting like a teacher to Wattle but also starting something new with the creation of Wattle Hearthbrush herself.

In a move that wasn't really done in the original show that writer of this episode Anthony McCarten really did know to treat the kid audience of this show with some basic level of respect. As they actually explain why Aunt Sally isn't in this episode with it being said that she's gone on holiday with a supposedly very rich man and isn't taking any visitors at the moment this was actually a really surprising move as even in his series they never really explained why Aunt Sally wasn't going to be in an episode they would just do the episode as they normally would which is something that does work in this series favor as the original series also did that but that the same time tho to see an episode not only go out of it's way to explain why she's not in the episode but also make her absence a plot point as it's what she says in her postcard to Worzel that leaves him feeling heartbroken and want to actually befriend Wattle in the first place and this is something that just isn't done even today as usually the writer of any episode of any show would just through in one line about why a character isn't in the episode and that's it but to make it a key plot point as well that is something that is never done and it really is something that should be done ore as it shows that the writer is actually treating the shows kid audience as equals and is not just doing the bare minimum effort to get a paycheck and while it would have been nice to see both Wattle and Aunt Sally meet up as you could have got alot of really great jokes from that pairing it is also something that just wasn't done for one reason or another.

While the idea of showing a female scarecrow is one that's been done to death and heck even the first episode of the fourth series of Worzel Gummidge is all about Worzel meeting his mother. What hadn't been done before now was showing us just how a female scarecrow is made which is basically done by only using female ingredients and female turnips which does seem like a dated way of putting it but at the same time tho for the time that this episode was being made in it is something that does work in the episode as the episode does explain it in a way where it does kind of make sense within the context of the show but at the same time tho they do get a few things wrong as well like the fact that we know that after a scarecrow comes alive for the first time they find it hard to talk for the first time and yet here Wattle speaks quite easily and we also know that a new born scarecrow has need to eat every sweet treat in sight and not stop until there really full up something that doesn't happen in this episode and while those might be small nitpicks in the grand scheme of things they are things that do go to show you that the makers of this show just don't have that much respect for what came them and most likely never even watched and episode of the original show in the first place as then they really could have gotten things that a new born scarecrow does down perfectly instead of just making up something new and hoping that no one noticed like what they did in this episode.

Wattle herself was one of the more fun characters in this episode as she's basically a rebellious teenager but cranked up to eleven. Which is something that does make her fun to watch as you never really know what she's going to say or do as she gets excited when she finds out that her first job has her being placed on roof but then gets bored quite quickly and is happy to go along with Worzel and while this show could have used a character like her very early on just to add in a character who could be everything that Worzel shouldn't be at the same time tho this kind of character would get boring pretty quickly and there only be so many times where you could see her get excited about something and then get bored by it pretty quickly as that is something that would get old pretty quick and not to mention the fact that there most likely would be times where she could come across as being the bad guy of the story when a character like this works best when she's quite clearly the goo guy and the fact that even The Crowman admits to having reservations about her being placed where she was in the first pace does prove that in the end she made the right call to go with Worzel as she just wasn't that happy there and so she went to do something that made her happy which in this case involved stealing a motorcycle to get away from the Nun's that put her on there roof in the first place which does make her the good guy of this episode as she only did what she did not only because of the fact that like all scarecrows she really didn't know any better but also because of the fact she wanted to do something that really does make her happy and being with Worzel Gummidge makes her happy,

Which is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for this show to have and to be fair this episode really does have the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time but what lets the episode is the fact that this episodes plot does come across as being quite underdeveloped with the episode being more focused on getting to the next plot point then it is in fully developing it's story and as such scenes like Worzel explaining to The Crowman why he wants The Crowman to mend his heart just don't work this is despite the fact that it is a wonderfully written , acted and directed scene and even the following scene with The Crowman just outright saying that Aunt Sally isn't a good friend doesn't work not only because there's no build up to that scene but also because there's no pay off for it either it's there just for the sake of being there which again despite it being a very well written , acted and directed scene just feels like a filler scene as neither we the audience nor Worzel himself are being told anything new about Aunt Sally as Worzel always looks for the best in her despite her being a cruel and horrible person and as such there's no point in the episode in having a scene like that in this episode as it adds nothing to the plot of the episode and it really could have been argued that it takes away screen time from the episode which really could have been used to fully develop the episodes plot but I really will admit that this episode really does gave some really bad pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then  in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With this episode actually being quite alot more funnier then what it really had any right to be with this episode not only making use of the funny things that the characters say and do but also having a sight gag like a Nun trying ringing the bell only her to get quite lifted of her feet everytime she does so is funny with that joke even being the best joke in the episode as it is something that really catch you off guard as it's joke that whilst yes is a very joke to tell it's still also a really funny joke when it's done really well as well and while this episode does have alot of really funny moments in it like the fact that when he's inside the convent Worzel disguises himself up as nun only to get found out right way that's a good idea and is a great way to subvert your expectations and even alot of what Wattle says and how she acts is really funny as she acts like someone who is just going to cause trouble and have fun doing so but then she'll say something that catch you off guard and that will still make you laugh because it's in her character to do so with even the Nuns having a few funny moments in this episode as well with pretty much all of this episodes jokes not only landing but also landing really hard as well as that's just how funny that this episodes jokes also really are as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this episode whilst it was still a pretty bad episode from a really painfully bad series of the show it's also one that proves that the makers of this show do indeed know how to make something that's true to the original spirit of Worzel Gummidge since all they have to do is try and that's really it and yet it's something that they've only really done in this very episode of the show in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.
