Keeping Up Appearances: Daddy's Accident Review

No matter where you live in the world we all either know or are related to someone who can at times be a bit of snob. Which does at times make there downfall seem all the more funny and yet with all of that wealth of potential for jokes there's really only been one series that's had someone who is a bit of snob be it's main character and so then join me as I review the debut episode that introduced us to a British icon with the episode in question being called simply just "Daddy's Accident" enjoy.

The plot of the episode is when her father has an accident local snob Hyacinth Bucket decides not to tell her friends in the hope that it won't effect one of her candle light suppers. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty simple but simple in all of the best ways as you don't really expect or even want a deep and complicated plot for the debut episode of a sitcom as instead all you want is something that gives you a good idea of what the idea is show is about while still being a good plot and that's exactly what the plot of this episode is with the plot of this episode also being really entertaining and as well as being really engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Patricia Routledge as Hyacinth , Josephine Tewson as Elizabeth and Judy Cornwell as Daisy. Also starring in this episode is Geoffrey Hughes as Onslow , Shirley Stelfox as Rose , Clive Swift as Richard , Bruce Alexander as The Doctor , Peter Cellier as The Major , Leo Dolan as The Postman , Paul Toothill as The Meter Man , James Ottaway as Mr Oxley and George Webb as Daddy.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With all of the actors really turning in some really good performances in this episode however as this is the first episode of the show the acting in this episode isn't as good as it could have been and isn't as good as it gets in later episodes which does make sense as this is only the first episode and yet even with that in mind the cast nearly capture all of there characters perfectly with the cast really being helped by the fact that the episodes script is just so good that all the cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performances will come out of them naturally.

What was really impressive is the fact that the episode manages to paint the perfect picture of who the main character is without even showing her. Which is such a good way to set up the main character without actually showing her as the audience now has a picture of her in there mind of her being this monster type of character that alot of people including her own family really don't like and then you find out not only are they right but she's so much more worse then that it makes the episode seem alot more clever then what it actually is as while we do get a good idea of why people just straight up don't like Hyacinth but at the same time they make her seem like this really likable who is just oblivious to what people actually say and think about her with her just laughing it off or just straight up just ignoring it all together.

This episode does a really good job of making all of it's characters even the ones that your meant to hate seem like really likable characters. With all of the characters in this episode being given flaws and things that make them likable characters with Hyacinth being a snob to the point where she's willing to ignore family members if it means pleasing someone who's higher up socially then she is but at the same time she doesn't really know that she's ignoring her family members where as her sister Rose is a maneater who has lots of boyfriends most of whom are already married but she's just looking for love and that's the case with alot of the characters in this episode with alot of  them being characters that can be seen as likable characters despite all of their flaws and yet the characters in this episode are still likable and fun characters that you want to spend alot of time and watch alot more of as there just that fun to watch in this episode.

To say that this show has aged horribly would be a huge understatement as it's a show that really hasn't aged all that well at all. Not that that's a bad thing in this case as this episode does feature alot of things that were only things in the nineties like the fact that the Hospitals won't let you visit anyone unless it's during visiting hours or the fact that orders on a Chinese menu are done in numbered form both of which aren't really things anymore and while they do help to age this show alot of them are also things that we still do to this very day like the fact that when an Ambulance stops at a neighbors house almost everyone goes out to have a look which is just such a great little thing to notice as it's something that alot of us do for no reason and it's that kind of writing that makes this show standout from alot of other comedies from around this same time period as it's something that we all do only now we'd most likely also be filming it on our phones and not being stood out there talking to our neighbors about what we think is actually really happening.

To be frank your only going to really like or even enjoy this episode if your from Britain as it's very British in nature. With the episode being fun but also being based on aspects of British society and thinks that only British people would understand and even then you'd have to have been born around the nineties to fully enjoy this show and while the show is very held back by the fact that it takes place in the nineties in alot of respects there's a huge chance that if you love British culture then you might find this episode to be enjoyable as it has alot of the things about British culture that you'll enjoy and that does in it's own unique way make the show seem timeless as alot of people who didn't grow up in nineties Britain or in Britain at all then you'll laugh at alot of the things that we used to do and in some cases still do do.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty nine minuets and five seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for not only this show but for alot of British sitcoms as well and to this episodes credit it does have more then alot there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time but with that in mind even tho it has the running time to end it's story the episode really doesn't finish it's plot with the episode just coming to an end which it really shouldn't have done but this is something that does happen in alot of the episodes of this show and while the show would get better at doing this with them ending on a really joke that does kind of tie into the main plot of the episode here the episode just ends when it really should have been starting it's third act and while that might be the point of the show as we're just viewing these characters for thirty minuets as a TV show it still needs to end it's plot but I will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With the episode having alot of really painfully moments in it which really isn't all that shocking as this show is written by the writer of Last Of Summer Wine , Open All Hours and Still Open All Hours with this writer knowing how to tell a good joke and he really does tell of really funny jokes in this episode with alot of the series running jokes still being really painfully in this episode as there just that good of a running joke that will always be funny in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this is a really good episode of this really funny show that should be watched by alot of people as this show whilst dated in some respects more then holds up in others with the show and this episode still being really enjoyable in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that means that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Doctor Who: The Tenth Planet Review

There episodes of any TV show that have made a huge impact on not only the show that they are apart of but also pop culture as a whole. With that being the case for the episode that i'm about to review for you all today as this is one of the most important episodes in all of Doctor Who history due to the one key thing that it adds to the overall lore of the show which has allowed the show to survive really for as long as it has done and so then join me as I review the episode that introduced us to the Cybermen with the episode in question being called simply just "The Tenth Planet" enjoy.

The plot of the episode is The Doctor , Ben and Polly land in the South Pole where they find themselves trying to stop a bunch of robotic alien men from destroying the earth for good only this fight might cost The Doctor his life. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad with this episodes plot doing a very good job of building up the Cybermen as a genuine threat whilst at the same time still being a rather compelling story with the plot of the episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is William Hartnell as The Doctor , Anneke Wills as Polly and Michael Craze as Ben Jackson. Also starring in this episode is Robert Beatty as General Cutler , David Dodimead as Barclay , Dudley Jones as Dyson , Alan White as Schultz , Earl Cameron as Williams , Callen Angelo as Terry Cutler , John Brandon as American Sergeant , Shane Shelton as Tito , Steve Plytas as Wigner , Christopher Matthews as Radar Technician , Ellen Cullen as Geneva Technician , Christopher Dunham as R/T Technician , the great Roy Skelton as The Voice Of The Cybermen , the great Peter Hawkins as The Voice Of The Cybermen and Patrick Troughton as The Doctor.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With the acting in this episode being alot better then what it really had any right to be which really isn't all that surprising as the acting in alot of the early Doctor Who episodes is always really top notch with this episode being no exception as every cast member in this episode really does nail there performances with the best examples being both William Hartnell and Robert Beatty who both turn in some really good performances in this episode with the acting in this episode really being helped buy the fact that the episodes script is just so good that all the cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally.

Doing the animation for this episode is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Planet 55 Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad with this episodes animation being very experimental in it's animation style as it looks like that they just quite literally traced over the very few surviving segments from episode four which isn't a bad approach given the fact that there are few scenes from that missing episode still around in some way shape or form but at the same time alot of the characters just don't look like there original actors with alot of them being more like stylized takes on the actors in question when it really shouldn't be.

As was mentioned at the very start of this review this episode is a really important episode of Doctor Who as it's the first episode of the show to feature what we now know is regeneration. With this episode being the final time to feature William Hartnell as a series regular and unlike alot of the more modern regenerations are all done in really big and over the over the top ways and yet this first one was the complete opposite of that as it's done on a small scale with there only being three actors in the scene and that's it where as the more modern ones go really over the top with CGI and explosions all going off everywhere and the music being really epic and yet here there really was none of that and that was something that works really as it makes it more mysterious and it makes you want to watch the next episode just to see who this person as don't forget in 1966 regeneration hadn't been done before and as such nobody would have blamed the audience if they didn't know that this was still The Doctor and as a result of that they would have had to have seen the next episode in order to see that that was indeed still The Doctor and not a new character.

The regeneration itself is something that could have been worked into the story a bit better as as things stand it just comes up in the final moments of episode four and that's really it. Which mean that it does loose some of it's impact in someways as alot of us more modern Doctor Who fans who didn't grow up with classic Doctor Who would find this episodes regeneration something that comes out of nowhere and that wouldn't be the case if the episode really took the time to include some lines of dialog of how The Doctor's body is getting a bit old or you could show that The Doctor is now walking a bit more slower paced now due to his old age just to really set up that this version of the character might not make it out of the episode alive and this would really have the knock on effect of making the regeneration not feel out of nowhere as it's something that really would have been set up as a possibility in the first place instead of having it really just come out nowhere in the final moments of the final episode of this serial. 

Not only did this episode introduce the idea of regeneration but it also introduced the Cybermen as villains. With them not really being that creepy looking in this episode but that does make as outside of The Daleks the show never really nailed the look of a villain on there first go but to the episodes credit the Cybermen have a robotic voice which does make them really creepy sounding but even with that going for them they don't have a good plan which does hinder them from being good villains in this episode as there plan hinges on The Doctor working with them which is never going to work and as a result of that it makes them look dumb as he's course not going to work with the people that are trying to blow up a planet that's full to the brim with innocent people which is a shame as there plan is a solid plan it just needs a bit more refining in order to make it work in a way that will them both smarter and scarier then what this episode makes them out to be.

Now then while I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember whatever this episodes grand total running time even was I do know that for a fact that this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty minuets. With this episode being four four episodes long with only episode being animated but this story really could have been done with being at the very least five or six episodes just to really give the story time to breathe and it would give us the chance to really see what the Cybermen can do which is something that the episode can't do with a shorter episode count because as things stand the plot does feel rushed as it has to get to the next plot point really quickly which is something that just wouldn't be the case if the serial was around six episodes in length but I will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. As we do get one action scene that's near the end of episode four which was really well done especially for the time that was episode was originally produced as classic Doctor Who especially the William Hartnell era of the show never really had that much action in it and yet the action that we got in this episode was really good with the show doing a good job of showing all of the creative ways that these original Cybermen can get killed off in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this episode was a great episode in order to send of the first Doctor in what is undoubtedly the most iconic regeneration scene even if The Doctor himself doesn't play a big part in the episode as a whole it's still a really good episode that's a must watch for any self respective Doctor Who fan in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are this very episode in this very review and as such that means that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.

Worzel Gummidge "Worzel's Wager" Review

Alot of shows especially kids shows have what is more commonly known as special episodes where the show tries to talk about series topics. Well there's an episode of Worzel Gummidge that really should have been a special episode of the show as it does deal with something that does hurt alot of people and yet for some rather odd reason it just wasn't and so then join me as I review the episode that really should have been a special episode of the show with the episode in question being called simply just "Worzel's Wager" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when Worzel is thrown out of a booking shop for trying to make a bet he tries to make a bet in a race that involves The Crowman's dog Ratter. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as the episodes plot was a fun plot which really isn't all that new as this shows plots are for the most part at least really good plots with this episodes plot also being a really fun plot for this show to have with this being helped by the fact that the plot for this episode is also really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Also starring in this film is Geoffrey Bayldon as The Crowman , Mike Berry as Mr. Peters , Norman Bird as Mr. Braithwaite , Myrtle Devenish as Mrs. Liversage , Steve Gardner as Dougie , Denis Gilmore as Harry , Laurence Harrington as Cyril , Megs Jenkins as Mrs. Braithwaite , Jimmy Jewel as The Betting Office Manager , Frank Marlborough as Atkins , Norman Mitchell as P.C. Parsons and Thorley Walters as Colonel Bloodstock.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that'd actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. Which is really nothing new for this show as this show has always had some really good acting in it with all of the actors in this episode really giving us some truly wonderful performances which is really nothing new given just how good alot of this episodes cast members really are with this really being helped that the episodes script is just so good that all the episodes cast have to do is just simply says the lines as they are written and a really good performance will come out all of them really naturally.

The show usually only shows Worzel getting for lack of a better destroyed once in a given episode and yet in this episode we get it twice. While Worzel being destroyed would usually be the end of the episode or the moment that makes Worzel learn whatever lesson that he's trying to learn that week here the episode continues which does kind of cheapen the impact of having Worzel destroyed as that is a big moment and it should be treated as such with the episode and yet due to the fact that the episode continues on after Worzel gets run over by a combine harvester it kind of felt like that the makers of the show really had no idea how to end the episode as they continue the episode way past when it should have ended with Worzel not really learning anything from his experiences in this episode which does also make this episode feel like it's a pointless episode.

Much like the episode "The Golden Hind" where everybody in the village was suddenly hooked on Fish & Chips. Here they all seemed to hooked on gambling which would lead you to believe that this episode is going to teach kids that gambling is bad and yet for some strange reason the episode doesn't do that and instead it makes gambling seem like a fun pass time for adults to do and while that can indeed be the case it can also be a really dangerous thing to do as people can get very easily hooked on gambling and as a result it can lead people down a dark path and this episode had the chance to do that in it's own way with the end of having Worzel being destroyed being how it could lead you down a dark path and yet because of the fact that the episode doesn't go that route it misses the chance to teach kids a very valuable lesson featuring a character who was at the time very popular and would thus would have had made sense to have Worzel be the one to teach that lesson to kids.

To give this episode credit it does add to the lore of the show by mentioning that there are saint scarecrows in this world. With The Crowman even musing a few times that Worzel himself might very well be one which is something that does track as we do get to see him do nice things not only for The Crowman and his friends but also for the little robin redbreast that leaves in his stomach and also for Aunt Sally someone whom really doesn't like him and yet he does it because it's the right thing to do even tho it might drive The Crowman crazy at times it's still the right thing to do and those are the actions but Worzel being Worzel he does also act really selfish as well which does dispel any notion of Worzel being a saint scarecrow and it does really give us a truly funny scene at the end of this episode as well. 

While the episode is to focused on showing us just how good gambling is and could be it's alot of those scenes especially with Worzel at the end. That are some of the must fun part of the episodes as we get to see alot of the shows regular cast just bounce of off each other and because of that we do get alot of really good scenes near the end of the episode with alot of the Whippet Racers and Worzel just trying to place a bet and while those scenes are indeed really fun scenes that are key to the plot of the episode they also hit home the episodes problem of showing us just how good gambling could be instead of showing us the downside of gambling which is something that an episode that's based heavily around gambling should have done and heck you could even have The Betting Office Manage also get his comeuppance as well as he doesn't tell people to stop gambling but rather he just takes there money and that's it all of which combine to make a great "villain" for this episode to have in it.

Now then while I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember whatever this episodes running time even was I do know that for a fact that this episode has / had an exact grand total running tie of roughly twenty six minuets. Which is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for this show and to this episodes credit that this episode really does make the most of it's really simple plot with the episode developing it's plot as much as it could have been and while this episode really does have more then enough plot to cover that large amount of running time it would have been just as good if the episode was a bit longer just so we could get more scenes of The Crowman but that would mean stretching the episodes plot even thinner then what it currently is doing but I will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk abut the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With this episode having alot of really funny moments be it from what it is that the characters say or due to the many funny faces that star Jon Pertwee pulls all throughout the episode this episode is a really good example of just how funny this show can be as this is a really funny episode with Jon Pertwee himself oddly getting alot of the episodes jokes just due to how funny he is in not only this episode but in the episode itself in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this episode is on the few episodes of this show that i'd strongly say is a must watch episode as it gives you everything that's great about this show with alot of really great laughs as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Garfield And Friends "Peace & Quiet" , "Wanted: Wade" And "Garfield Goes Hawaiian" Review

Garfield is a character that not alot of people will know is actually a comic book character and is one of the few comic book characters to not only break into the main stream but also has generations of fans. With the character having a new movie out this year I thought that it was only about time that I take a look at the very first full episode of the show that really launched him into a mega star and so then join me as I review the review the episodes that saw Garfield try to take on a clown with the segments in question being called simply just "Peace & Quiet" , "Wanted: Wade" and "Garfield Goes Hawaiian" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is in "Peace & Quiet" after staying up all night watching TV Garfield tries to get some sleep but has to deal with clown that keeps on disturbing him whilst in "Wanted: Wade" Wade the duck thinks that the police are after him after he rips of a piece of paper of a sofa and in "Garfield Goes Hawaiian" Jon trys to get Garfield to take some medicine after he gets a case of Hawaiian Cat Flu. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that  bad with the plot of "Peace & Quiet" being the better plot of the episodes three segments as that was the most filled plot with the plot of all three segments being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Lorenzo Music as Garfield and Thom Huge as Jon Arbuckle , Roy Rooster , Jail Dog and Binky The Clown. Also starring in this episode is Gregg Berger as Odie , Orson Pig  , Man 1 Jail Rat and The Television Host , Howard Morris as Wade Duck , voice acting legend Frank Welker as Booker , Polly , Silly Animal Stunts Host and Sheldon and Julie Payne as Lanolin Sheep , Liz Wilson and The Receptionist.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty nor that bad. With alot of this episodes turning in some pretty decent performances but at the same time the acting in this episode isn't as good as we know that this episodes cast can deliver with the episodes various scripts letting the cast down as there just not that good and while yes Lorenzo Music is pitch perfect as Garfield the rest of the cast just aren't that good as the episodes scripts don't really give them a whole lot to work with and as a result of this is the fact that there performances just can't be that good as the episodes scripts just really won't allow for it.

Doing the animation for this episode is Cuckoo's Nest Studios and the legends and the greats that are currently over at Wang Film Productions Company. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that' actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad with the episodes animation at times having a water colored look to it which makes it look like that it was ripped right out of the comic strips but that's also the episodes biggest weakness as it doesn't look like something that you'd want to see on TV as it doesn't look like TV quality animation which is also the point as it's meant to look like the comic strips which is fine for the comic strips but for TV you want something that looks just that little bit better.

For those of you that perhaps don't know about this show this show had three segments air in each episode with there being two quick short segments to air inbetween each segment. In each typical episode of the show we would get two Garfield segments that would usually bookend each episode and one Orson's Farm aka U.S.Acres segment that would usually be the second segment in the episode this was done just because the Orson's Farm comic strip had just launched and was fastly becoming a mild hit and as such the makers of this show thought that teaming up those characters with that of the Garfield characters would help to push the Orson's Farm comic strip into the mainstream and get more eyes on it sadly this did not happen as it's those segments that are the worst segments of this show as they clash with the tone of the Garfield shorts.

While having multiple segments for this show does somewhat as it does allow for alot more really fun stories. This episode and the show as a whole would have been if it was just focused on Garfield and heck they wouldn't even need to change the title of the show as then they could have had Garfields side characters come in and play a bigger role in the show with none of the Garfield side characters making appearance in either Garfield segment in this episode which does somewhat make sense as they to tell multiple stories in one episode they still could have had them appear in the background or make a cameo appearance in the episode with the episode instead giving more of that attention to detail to the Orson's Farm segment where they do have some of their other main characters make a cameo appearance which just doesn't work as nobody who is watching this show is watching t for those characters as they'd be watching it for the Garfield characters.

It's hard to say which of the three segments was the best segment as all three of them are good in there own way. With the Garfield segments being more funny for adults and teenagers and the Orson's Farm segment being more targeted at little kids and doing and saying things that would make them laugh and while all three segments do have there own merits all three also have alot of flaws like the fact that Garfields beef with Binky could have been resolved if Garfield just told him that he got the wrong house and that was it which might seem like a minor issue but when you take into account that that's a key plot point in the segment it then becomes a major issue with the same thing also being true for the Orson's Farm segment as if Wade just stopped to think for a minuet then he would realise that the police wouldn't come to a arrest him and heck even Orson himself tells him as such and he still doesn't listen to him.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty three minuets and fifty two seconds. Which was a really solid running time for this episode to have with each of the episodes three segments lasting around five minuets each with the two quick segments lasting around thirty segments to a minuet each with all three segments having just about enough plot to cover there own allotted amount of time and nothing more then that and while it would have been good if each of the segments had a longer running time the plot has to always come first and if the segment doesn't have alot of plot to cover anything longer then five minuets then stretching each segments plot really wouldn't work as all that would result in doing is stretching each segments plot even thinner then what they already are but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho. 

So now then as this is comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With this episode having alot of really funny moments with alot of the episodes most funniest moments coming from the Garfield as the Orson's Farm segment just isn't that funny but there might be some little kids that find those characters and that segment to be the funnest segment in the whole entire episode however what makes the Garfield segments funny is the fact that Garfield himself is just a funny character with dry and sarcastic sense of humor all of which is delivered gratefully by Lorenzo Music with this being helped by the fact that all of the Garfield jokes are just really funny jokes in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this was a rather solid debut episode to what would be a truly iconic show to the character of Garfield and it's not hard to see why this character became as popular as it was as it was a really solid debut episode in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good ad as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that means that means that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.

Ewoks "The Haunted Village" Review

Ewoks are characters that people either love or hate with alot of people being really split on these characters. However back in the mid eighties kids loved them and as a result of that they were given there very own animated series and for a while the only piece of new Star Wars media that we got good or not featured the Ewoks in a starring role and well since it's been four long years since I last took a look at an episode from the classic Ewoks TV show I thought that it was about right that I take a look at episode two of this show and so then join me as I review the episode that introduces invisible soap into the world of Star Wars with the episode in question being called simply just "The Haunted Village" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is the Ewoks find themselves being under attack from all sides as they have to douse some trees in soap that turns you invisible to hide them from an evil witch while the Dulok steal it and use the soap to try and attack the Ewoks village it's up to Wicket to get the soap back before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as it was the kind of plot that you'd expect from a kids cartoon where the Ewoks are the main characters but at the same time tho given that this episodes writer was Paul Dini it's not that good of a plot either with this episodes plot also being really rather entertaining ad as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Also starring in this episode is Doug Chamberlain as Logray , Leanne Coppen as Nippet and Winda Warrick , Michael Fantini as Wiley , Don Francks as Umwak , Dan Hennessey as Gorneesh , Jim Henshaw as Wicket Wystri Warrick , Pam Hyatt as Bozzie , Eric Peterson as Teebo , John Stocker as Widdle Warrick , voice acting legend Cree Summer as Kneesaa A Jari Kintaka and Greg Swanson as Weechee Warrick.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. Which given who is starring in this episode really isn't all that surprising as this episode is made up of a bunch of really good voice actors who we know for a fact can turn in some really good performances which is the case with this episode however what really does let the acting in this episode down is the fact that the episodes script really isn't that good as it's just your stereotypical kids cartoon script and it doesn't give the cast a whole lot to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are really even meant to be in the first place.

Doing the animation for this episode is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Nelvana , Cuckoo's Nest Studios and Wang Film Productions Company. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty alot better then what it really had any right to be as when you hear the words "Ewoks Cartoon" you don't really think of good or even great animation and yet we get some really good animation and while the animation really hasn't aged all that well it's also better then alot of the animated shows that were coming out at the time that this show was being made.

The episodes villains were rather rightfully ridiculous and over the top as they are villains in a kids cartoon. However given that Star Wars was also aimed at children and yet they still somehow managed to create scary and actually threatening villains it's shocking to see that this cartoon didn't do the exact same thing as they had more then enough star power behind the camera to make the episodes villains really scary and yet they don't at all instead they make them the kind of villains that you'd always see in a childrens TV show with this not really being helped by the fact that the episodes villains don't really have much of a personality this is despite them having a clear end goal of wanting to get rid of the Ewoks there's nothing personality wise to set all of these villains and such any one of them really could be the ones that are saying things in this episode as alot of them really do look the exact same way as each other.

To this episodes credit it really does know exactly what it is and that's the fact that it's nothing more then a dumb kids cartoon. Which is so refreshing as to see as we see quite alot of shows that are trying to be something that there not and yet this episode knows exactly what it is and really isn't afraid to be nothing more then a dumb kids cartoon with everything about this episode being things that you'd see in a dumb kids cartoon without the typical moral lesson of the week that we used to see all of the time in eighties kids cartoon shows which is really what this episode is missing as it would be super funny and super cringy just seeing how they would try to teach kids a moral lesson but done in a Star Wars fashion but at the same time none of the Star Wars cartoon ever really did something like that and it would have seemed really out of place for this one episode to do it when the rest of the shows doesn't do it even once.

As this show is more focused on being a comedy you'd expect the jokes in this episode to be really good. Yet the jokes that are in this episode while they might have been funny back in nineteen eighty five there not really funny now with pretty much all of this episodes being really dated jokes and whilst there might be some people that will still find this show to be funny in order to be truly timeless the jokes have to be well written and times which is sadly not the case at all with this being the result of the back of the episodes script just isn't that good and when you have Paul Dini the co-creator of Harley Quinn you'd expect there to be some really funny as we know thanks to Tiny Toon Adventures which he also wrote for you'd expect the jokes in this episode to be really painfully funny and yet the jokes in this episode will barely get a smile out of people as there just really not that funny at all with the episode not even having one good joke in the slightest.

Now then this episode has / had an grand total running time of exactly twenty four minuets and forty five seconds.Which is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for this show and to this episodes credit it really does make the must of that running time with there not really being any scene that needed to be cut and while I would have liked if the episode had more scenes just to flesh out it's plot and characters it would have been stretching this episodes already thin story to beyond breaking pint and as a result there would have been alot of scenes that add nothing to the overall plot of the episode and would have felt like padding and while even tho this episode really does have more then enough plot to cover this amount of running time it doesn't have enough plot to cover any longer then that but I will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in al honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. However that's also issue as while this episodes action really isn't all that good either none of this is the fault of the makers of the show as they have strict guidelines and strict budgets to stick to and as a result of this the action in this episode can't be as good as it could have been as the show has to stick to those TV guidelines and to those budgets which means that this episodes action is rather clunky and was the kind of action that you'd expect t find in a bad kids action cartoon series as it's just that bad in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this episode is both not as good as it could have been and not as bad as it really should have been either with this episode really giving you all the things that you'd expect to see in an Ewoks kids cartoon in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that really are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

Doctor Who: The Time Meddler Review

 

Doctor Who is a show that when it's good it's great but when it's bad it's really bad with the show always adding things to it's lore. With the episode that i'm about to review for you all today being one such episode as this really is the first episode that sees the TARDIS get the name that we really all know it by and sees introduction of a time travelers golden rule and so then join me as I review the episode that sees Steven officially join the TARDIS team with the episode in question being called simply just "The Time Meddler" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is The Doctor , Vicki and Steven land on earth and have to stop an evil time travelling from changing the course of European history forever. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time tho that's also the issue this episodes plot really isn't all that good as the episodes plot just isn't that interesting and while it's normal for a TV show to have some bad episodes it is unusual for that episode to be written by the shows then script editor with this episodes plot not really being all that entertaining nor is it all that engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is William Hartnell as The Doctor , Maureen O'Brien as Vicki and Peter Purves as Steven Taylor. Also starring in this episode is Peter Butterworth as The Monk , Alethea Charlton as Edith , Peter Russell as Eldred , Michael Miller as Wulnoth , Michael Guest as A Saxon Hunter , Geoffrey Cheshire as A Viking Leader , Norman Hartley as Ulf , David Anderson as Sven and Ronald Rich as Gunnar The Giant.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty alot better then what it really had right to be. With both William Hartnell and Peter Butterworth rather rightfully getting alot of praise for there performances as they both turn in some truly wonderful performances in this episode and while both Maureen O'Brien and Peter Purves try to turn in some good performances both they and the rest of the episodes cast are let down by the episodes script which gives none of them absolutely nothing to work with interms of what there respective characters personalities are even meant to be.

As was stated at the very start of this review this is the episode that sees Steven Taylor officially become a companion.While yes the character was indeed introduced in the previous episode "The Chase" he didn't become a companion as they all believed that he died in that episodes climax with the character officially becoming a companion in this episode which was a really smart move as of course the previous episode was all about saying goodbye to Ian and Barbera two characters who have been with the show since episode one and by introducing him in that episode it means that when he does show up at the start of this episode the audience is already very familiar with him altho the episode doesn't really give a reason as to why The Doctor Would indeed take him on as a companion as Steven doesn't really display anything that would catch The Doctor's attention. 

This episode does add to the lore of show by explaining what the one golden rule of time travel with it being to never interfere with history. However it also adds to the lore in another way by introducing us to an evil time traveler something which we really hadn't seen before at this point in the shows history and while the episode doesn't really go as far with that idea is it perhaps could have done it is a solid idea so much so that that basic core concept would resurface again years later and to more success with the introduction of The Master but at the same time it would have been nice to see The Monk become somewhat of a regular villain as he's someone who have outwitted The Doctor and his companions during other episodes and while the character would indeed be brought back for The Dalek's Master Plan it would have been great to see the character show up after the events of that episode and become a recurring villain like The Daleks for example.

This episode is the very definition of a nothing episode as not alot actually happens in this episode with Steven and Vicki mostly wondering around looking for The Doctor and The Doctor himself spending alot of time being captured by The Monk. Which while those scenes with The Doctor and The Monk are some really good scenes there also quite alot of scenes that add nothing to the overall plot of the episode and the same thing also being true for the stuff with Vicki and Steven as alot of their scenes could have been removed from the overall plot of the episode which means that for alot of the episode we are just watching the characters looking around trying to find each other and there's only so long that you can see something like that before it starts to get boring which in the case of this episode is very quickly and when you take into account that this episode really should have shown us why Steven should be a companion to The Doctor is really something that shouldn't been the case as this episode should have been a showcase for Steven and for showing us why he should get to travel with The Doctor and what his relationship with The Doctor is going to be like in the show moving forward and yet the episode doesn't do that at all with the episode instead just focusing on giving us scenes that add nothing to the overall plot of the episode and really nothing more then that.

It was rather interesting seeing The Monk's TARDIS given that it's meant to be a more newer model to The Doctor's. However mostly due to budgetary reasons the two TARDIS'S look exactly the same on the inside with there being nothing to make them look visually different which is something that they really should have done just to make The Monks TARDIS interior look different to that of The Doctors but as it is they both look exactly the same which does make it hard t tell which interior is who's in any scene but if they did have the budget to make The Monk's TARDIS interior different then they could have gone with a more gothic steampunk look which would have been perfect for this character as this character is evil to the core and due to the fact that he's willing to change human history just for a laugh giving his interior a more darker theme would thematically make a whole lot of sense and it would have looked really visually interesting as well.

Now then while I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember whatever this episodes grand total running time was I do know that for a fact that this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of roughly one hour and thirty minuets. Which was such a short amount of time for this episode to have as instead of being just four incredibly short episodes this episode really should have been five or even six episodes long as that would have allowed for the story of the episode to become more fully fleshed out and it would have allowed the makers of the episode to fully develop it's characters and yet because of the fact that the episode is only four episodes long it means that the episode can't fully develop either it's pot of it's characters as they have to rush along to get to the next plot point but I will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a drama show that means that I have to actually talk about the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With this episodes drama not really being all that forced as alot of it felt very in character but at the same time as the story behind the episode is so weak it doesn't matter how good the drama is as the episode just doesn't have the story to back it up and yet it's in this episodes drama where the acting between William Hartnell and Peter Butterworth really does shine through with those two having a bunch of really good dramatic scenes together all of which work really well for this episode are all mostly in character for both the Monk and the Doctor in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this episode was a rather fun episode it's also one that felt like the waste of a good idea and of a potentially good villain as well but the episode is still a fairly fun episode to watch in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that means that means that this very episode really does earn itself a grad old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.
