Love Live School Idol Project "First Live" Review

Anime much like music can make you feel different things depending on what it is your listening to or watching at the point in time. With them both also going together really well with a good example of this being the Love Live franchise as even tho it did start life before it became an anime thanks to the anime we now have not only several different series all of which bare the Love Live name but also quite a few different movies as well and well I thought that i'd take a look at one of the episodes from the very first series of the show and so then join me as I review the episode that see the girls realise a hard truth with the episode in question being called simply just "First Live" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is Honoka , Umi and Kotori don't have that long to get ready for their first ever concert however they also have to deal with the fact that Umi suffers from stage fright. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in tis very episode was in all honesty not that bad. As while this episodes plot isn't that deep of a plot and is really quite simple that's something that does work well enough to not only this episodes advantage but to the series advantage as well as this is a show that really doesn't require a deep and thought provoking plot as all it needs is the basic set up for the episode and that's it and to be fair to this episode that's where this episode really does excel as it's set up is strong enough to support an entire episode as all it is is the girls not only getting ready for but also performing there first ever concert together and that's it and that's all this episode needed to be from a plot point of view and while yes it would have helped the episode out a little bit if the plot of the episode was a lot more stronger then what it is as it does feel like the main plot of the episode is fighting for screen time with the Umi subplot but in doing that it would rob the characters of the chance to showcase just why there so likable in the first place as every single scene not only wouldn't be that much fun to watch but would also be about advancing the plot of either the episode or the show as a whole with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Marieve Herington as Honoka Kosaka , Erica Lindbeck as Eli Ayase and Cristina Vee as Kotori Minami. Also starring in this episode is Kira Buckland as Umi Sonoda , Faye Mata as Rin Hoshizora , Caitlin Glass as Maki Nishikino , Laura Post as Nozomi Tojo , Xanthe Huynh as Hanayo Koizumi , Erica Mendez as Nico Yazawa , Mela Lee as Hideko , Natalie Hoover as Fumiko and Ryan Bartley as Mika.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With all of this episodes actors turning in some really good performances in their own right which is something that does make alot of sense as alot of the actors that are in this episode are a bunch of really good voice actors in their own right many of whom have more then made there mark in the world of anime voice acting an therefor it does make sense that they would turn in some really solid performances in this episode and while some of the voices do sound a little bit weird like for some reason they give Umi this raspy sounding voice which just doesn't suit her character at all the performances on the whole are really good with the best actor in this whole entire episode being Marieve Herington as while she does give Honoka a really generic sounding voice when a character like this does demand one that makes her strand out she does deliver a really solid performance in this episode with her acting in this episode making all of the jokes alot more funnier then what they should have been and the episodes emotional moment coming across as being really devastating and all of that is done just in her performance alone with the acting that's in this episode really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so good that all this episodes have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Doing the animation for this episode really is the legends and the great that are currently over at Sunrise. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I im all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad with the animation having alot of nice attention to detail when it comes to the backgrounds as it does feel like that you can read every single sign that we can see in this episode and while the characters do have some stiff looking movements some of the time when it counts the most that's when the animation on the characters gets alot more better with the animation even mixing in 3D CGI animation as well for the episodes big song sequence at the end which does blend it really well with the 2D animation that's used in the rest of the episode as even tho the characters are done in 2D and the backgrounds in 3D or that one song sequence really can't tell that's done in CGI as it doesn't stand out in a bad way all that much and while yes the fact that the episode does have the camera do moves that you could only do in CGI during that sequence it doesn't change the fact that the two elements blend really well as by all rights the two elements should have worked well together at all but because of the fact that the studio that did the animation for this episode also did the animation for alot of the bands IRL songs as well you get the feeling that they really knew what they were doing because of the fact that they've worked with these characters and because of that they were able to pull of some really good looking pieces of animation in this episode.

One of the things that was really shocking to see in this episode weas the fact that they spend quite alot of the episodes running time of showing Umi suffering with stage fright. With this being something that shows like this would usually skip over because of the fact that the main purpose of a show like this is to get you to buy the CD and that's it and yet they full on show how it effects her as a character which was a really great move to make as we then get to see both Honoka and Kotori try to help her out in their own ways which was a great way of showing just how close this friend group really is as the episode very easily could have skipped over that plot line and have her get over it in just one scene but no the makers of this episode actually show her struggling through it all the way until the episodes final musical number which was a great move as it then allows for us the audience to really emphasize with Umi who up until this point in the series really hadn't been given alot of focus as a character with her usually being the very straightlaced one of the group and yet in this episode we get to see a whole over side of her character and while she doesn't quite get over her stage fright in this episode the very fact that the makers of this episodes even dared to show one of the characters struggling with something that alot of people do go through was a great move with it being something that oddly enough makes this show that was made with kids in mind feel more mature and adult then alot of shows that are aimed at an adult audience due to the fat that it was something that was tackled in a really mature way when they very easily could have taken the easy route and have it not really factor into the episode a whole lot then what it does in the final cut of the episode.

Coming from someone who watched both the sub and the dub when they both coming out what I really hated was the fact that they don't dub the songs in the episode. Which fair enough might have been a rights issue but in which case why go through the bother of getting the rights to the series when your not going to be getting the rights to the songs as all that means is we go from characters like Honoka for example speaking perfect American to her then suddenly perfect Japanese for no reason which makes no sense and while not dubbing songs isn't really an issue in anime where the songs are just playing in the background and therefor aren't meant to the focus of either the episode or the show in this show and in this episode it's the opposite that's true as the whole point of the episode is the girls performing their debut concert together so it would have made more sense for them to dub the all of the songs in the show into English due to the fact that alot of the songs do play a huge part in the show and while this isn't something that takes away from the episode and could be seen as being more of a nitpick then anything else it is something that could also be seen as being distracting as all it does it take you out of the episode when during this moment in the episode your meant to be the most invested in it and while the dubbing on the whole was really good apart from the fact that they tried to give Honoka a catchphrase for some weird reason it feels odd that the makers of this episode would choose not to dub one of the most important aspects of the episode if it turned out that they just couldn't find people who could sing the songs well enough that's another thing all together as it would show that an effort was made to try and dub this shows songs in the first place.

Speaking of the shows songs even tho it does technically have two songs with one song being played over a montage called "Private Wars" it's the episodes second song that's the better one. As the episodes second song is "Start: Dash" only instead of it being sung by all nine of the band it's now sung by just three members of the group with this version of the song being very well done and is oddly catchy and while it's hard to say who sung as there most likely members of the Japanese voice cast the singers for the song did a really good job of singing the song as well with all three of them really bringing the song to life and making it a really fun song in the first place with this being something that works well when you take into account that just before the song starts the episodes has a really good gut punching moment where the girls find out that despite all of the help that they got to promote the concert in the days leading up to the concert no one turned up for various other reasons something which does cause all three of them to start to break down and it's only when one audience member finally turns up that Honoka is finally convinced to carry on with the concert as planned which does result in this song being sung with the song not only being a really good song in it's own right but one that does serve as the perfect counterbalance for what we've just seen as it let's us the audience know that we can smile again something that just wouldn't have been possible if this song wouldn't have been included as the episode would then end on a bit of sour note with it being helped by the fact that the song is also really well written as well altho admittedly it's lyrics could come across as being a bit childish they are something that does work in the context of this episode.

Now then this has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty three minuets and forty one seconds. Which again to be fair to this episode is pretty much the bogstandard running time not only for this show but also for alot of anime as well with this episode really having the right amount of plot thee to really cover that amount of running time but in saying this tho the episode really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as neither the episodes plot or it's subplot get alot of development as there both fighting for screen time with each other when the subplot with Umi is something that's more then strong enough to support an entire episode in it's own right with the same thing also being true for the episodes main plot as well and yet by having both of them be in the same episode it does mean that both plots could have work well enough on there own are now fighting for screen time with neither one of them getting the development that they really did need in order to make them work all the more better because of it and while the characters don't get that much character development either that's not really a negative thing in this regard as it could very well be argued that the characters get there character development over the course of this first season of the show and with this episode being only the third episode of the show it does somewhat make sense that the characters wouldn't be given any kind of character development but in saying that tho it would have been nice if some of the characters did get some very small amounts of character development tho but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho. 

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have t actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With all of this episodes being cure and funny jokes that all work because of the fact that they feel true to who the characters are which does make this episodes jokes feel very character driven and the kind of jokes that friends would genuinely do to each other as well which is something that makes all of the friendships in this show and in this episode in particular feel all the more real and the characters come across as being more like real people as a result of this with the best joke in this whole entire episode being when Umi finds out that the skirt for her outfit is above knee length which then results in her having a flashback to when she told a rather scared Kotori to make sure then the skirt on her outfit was above knee length which does make Umi come across as being quite scary but in context of the episode it is something that does come across as being quite funny and while the episode does have another cute joke with Rin scaring her friend and her locker the Umi joke just works all the more better because of the fact it is something that you could see that character doing this is despite the fact that the episode does have alot of really funny jokes all of which really do work in this episode because of the fact that the characters really are likable characters as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall it's really easy to see why this show lasted two series and a movie as this episode really is a good example of just how good that this show could be as it knows when to balance the comedy with the drama and when to just be flat out adorable to watch all of which are things that work really well in this episode in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very revue and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Police Squad: A Substantial Gift (The Broken Promise) Review

Alot of people do rightfully know of the The Naked Gun movies as not only is the most recent film currently out in cinemas but the films on the whole are just that good and funny. However there is something that alot of people don't know and that's the fact that those films are also spin offs of a not really very well known TV show and well I thought that i'd take a look at the first episode of this show and so then join me as I review the episode that introduces us to the character of Frank Drebin with the episode in question being called simply just "A Substantial Gift (The Broken Promise)" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when a costume and a teller are shot dead it's up to Frank Drebin to find out who killed them before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad with this episodes plot being dumb but in a good way as the plot of the episode isn't meant to be taken seriously and is meant to be dumb and silly and because of that the episodes plot does come of as being really fun to watch as the episodes does treat this very outlandish plot very seriously which is something that could have very easily backfired and made the plot less fun to watch but it's the fact that the characters and the makers of this show treated this episodes plot so seriously that it does oddly work in it's own unique way with the plot of the episode being a pretty strong plot to start out on as well as while no one would have expected this shows plot to be good and would have just written off right away it is something that once you get into does feel like the plot that you would still find in cop shows today which is something that does go to show you that the makers of this show in their own unique way loved the cop show genre as his is a plot that is still being used with this episode being the best example of this plot due to how much fun that it is to watch with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Also starring in this episode is Lorne Greene as Stabbed Man , Ed Williams as Mr. Olson , William Duell as Johnny , Barbara Tarbuck as Mrs. Twice , Terry Wills as Jim , Terrence Beasor as Dr. Zubatsky , Russell Shannon as Ralph Twice , Jimmy Briscoe as A Cop , Kathryn Leigh Scott as Sally , Marvin Miller as The Narrator , Mallory Sandler as The Dental Assistant , David Schwimmer as An Extra In Waiting Room and Tiny Ron as Al.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acing that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With all of this episodes actors really understanding just what it kind of episode that there making and really having fun with the concept and because of that we do get alot of really fun performances in this episodes even from those who only appear in the shows opening titles fully get that this show is meant to be parody of cop shows and even with that in mind none of this episodes actors give an over the top performance because they don't really need to as by doing that then they'd make the episode less funny to watch and yet by playing every single thing straight and treating it seriously then everything in this episode does become a whole lot more funnier to watch with the best actor in this whole entire episode being of course Leslie Nielsen who even in this first episode really does totally own the role of Frank Drebin as he just gets the character down perfectly with him basically being the only actor who could play this character due to the fact that before he did Airplane he did more dramatic roles and he brought that dramatic actor mentally to this role with it being something that really does shine through in not only this episode but the whole show and the original Naked Gun trilogy as well with the acting that's in this very episode really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so good that all this episodes really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

While it would be to hard to if this episodes characters are the best in the whole show what can be said is that alot of them are really good characters in their own right. With all of this characters whilst they are yes all variations on the dumb one character they all do work in their own unique way take for example Frank Drebin himself as while yes he is a pretty clueless character he is pretty much Inspector Clouseau from The Pink Panther movies only without the trench coat , French accent and beard but at the same time tho he's also a really dedicated police officer who is always willing to go the extra mile to get the job and while how he reaches hos conclusions are always really dumb they do work for his character with the character of Sally being another good character in this episode as she is basically a play on the idea that "the blonde girl didn't do the crime" just because of the fact that she's a girl so why would she do it but the episode takes that idea to such extremes by not revealing that she did do the crime in the first place but that she also committed several other crimes in several other citifies as well which is such a good idea is defies what us the audience are expecting to happen but doing so in a way that doesn't feel forced as it is entirely believable that in this world this seemingly hopeless character in Sally could have done this crime as it's well within her character to do just like how it's within the character of Frank to solve the crime despite not having a clue on how to do so in the first place with the rest of the episodes being just as good but not as memorable as those two are tho as there not really the main focus of the episode with the little that we get from characters like Ed and Johnny for example are enough to get across the joke of their characters but enough to male them memorable enough characters in this episode.

Much like with another from the eighties this time being Columbo this episode not only straight up tells us who did the crime but also reveals how they did it as well. With this very idea being something that very easily could have backfired as it could have made the episode pretty dull to watch but in doing so it does oddly enough allow for more jokes to happen without them getting in the way of the episodes main plot but in saying that tho since this show is meant to be a spoof of cop shows and those don't usually reveal who did it until the very end of the episode thus allowing for us the audience to build up our very own list of suspects and works it out for ourselfs who did it it would have made more sense for the makers of this show to do something very similar only to put there very own unique spin on it like maybe the person that there leading us to believe did the crime actually didn't and it instead turns out to be some extra or something like that just something that would put that concept of revealing who did it on it's head instead of just outright saying who did it and reveling how they did it at the very start of the episode and heck this episode even reveals the villains main motivation for killing of those two people as well which is something that is fitting for this show as it does add to the absurdism of the whole episode but at the same time if you didn't know that this was a comedy then it would have left you with no reason to watch this episode in the first place where as both the comedy aspect and whole cop show aspect of the episode could have worked hand in hand by creating a genuinely good mystery for us to solve only with alot more jokes thrown in for good measure.

The reason why alot of you won't have heard about this show in the first place is because of the fact that it got cancelled after just six episodes. However it wasn't cancelled because of the quality of the show far from it it was instead cancelled because of the fact that the show and this episode does have alot of sight gags in it and the audience at the time couldn't see them all as they would stop watching the show to either check out something else on the TV or to go into the other room both of which they have every right to do so they were instead getting a pretty bad mystery cop show that just so happened to star the guy from Airplane in it this is way The Naked Gun movies not only were able to borrow jokes from this show buy also became massive hits as well as now the audience can't leave the room with it being shocking right now that this show would even get cancelled in the first place as while yes alot of people would have stopped watching any given episode to do whatever but there also would have been some people that didn't do that and while it is hard to say just what the final viewing numbers were for the show on a week to week basis it still did surely have to fairly decent as they did after all turn it into a very successful film series but at the same time tho given the fact that not alot most likely didn't watch it then they more then likely got a different viewing experience to those that did stick around to watch the full episode as those that did stick around to watch a full episode would have gotten a really good comedy with a lame mystery but those that didn't only got the lame mystery part with one or two decent jokes at best.

To be frank here this episodes central villain Sally Decker isn't that interesting of a villain which fair enough might be the whole point of not only the characters but also the show as well. As her whole reason for stealing the money and for killing those two people was so that she could pay off her dentist and that's really it which granted is wonderfully absurd and is something that does feel perfectly in line with this show but at the same time tho it doesn't make the character all the more interesting as there's nothing about her character that really does stand out with her not even appearing in the episode all that much either which only leaves her character to be really underdeveloped and while it is understandable as to why her character isn't featured all that much as it would have seemed out of place for them to featured this character that the police are meant to believe is innocent until the last minuet it would have made the mystery aspect of the show alot more stronger if not only we the audience got to know the character just a little bit more as even a scene or two with her talking about anything else other then the crime would have helped as would the fact if the episode didn't reveal that it was she that did it in the first place and instead gave us small clues hidden all through the episode as that then would allow for us the audience to work out who did it they could keep the wonderfully silly reasoning behind it as that is something that does add to the humor of the episode but it would have helped both the episode and the character if we got to know a little bit more about Sally Decker as a character even if it's something that she makes up as that then could be as wonderfully ridiculous as you'd want it to be and it would still work as well.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grad total running time of exactly twenty five minuets and seven seconds. Which is pretty much the exact grand total running time for al of the episodes of this show with this episode even having the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time in the first place however the in saying that this episode really doesn't use it's running time time all that wisely tho as while the plot of the episode is as focused as it's ever going to be it's also not as developed as it ever could be as alot of the time it does feel like that Frank is just stumbling around from one location to the other with rhyme or reason with this being something that could have been linked to the fact that the mystery aspect of the episode isn't all that good as without a good mystery then how could this episode have had a more well developed plot but that again could also have been the point of the show as as well as this whole show and this episode is meant to be a spoof on cop shows and those don't typically have that well developed plots to them with the lack of a well developed plot also effecting it's characters but not much tho as again cop shows don't have that well developed characters in them either and so it wouldn't make sense for this episode to have that well developed characters in it either it would have helped the episode be a better episode tho but it also would have gotten in the way of the episodes jokes as well and with this being a comedy show that would mean that character development would have to get put to the side as the episode would have to stop a joke to develop either it's plot or it's characters alot more then what it already does in the actual episode itself but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With this episode being painfully funny with there being several jokes happening in each and every single scene of this episode be it from the franchises more traditional word play gags to things that the characters are saying to sight gags to even some slap stick jokes there's something in this episode for every one and something in this episode that will make any one laugh as that's just how funny that this episodes jokes really are with it being really hard to say just what the best joke in the whole entire episode as really all of the episodes jokes could rightfully make that claim and it would be totally justifiable with this episode being a good example of just good comedy should be as while yes alot of the word play jokes in this episode could be seen as being sully and over the top there's nothing worn with that as along as what your saying is actually funny in the place with this shows humor being on the same level of absurd as the Monty Python films as much like with alot of there films you never really know just what it is that your going to be getting next in this episode from a joke point of view but if I were pushed i'd say that the best joke in this episode being the joke where the informant Johnny ends up teaching a priest about live after death which is an example of just how wonderfully silly that all of this episodes jokes really can be in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall if you love shows like Brooklyn Nine Nine then your going to love this episode as this show has the exact same sense of humor that that show had as well only this episode has a more silly sense of humor that does make up for the lack of any plot or character development in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then  i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.

Batman And Harley Quinn Film Review

When we think of Batman we usually think of a character that's super serious and that isn't that much of a goofy character. Yet every so often we would get an animated film that really does remind us of just how really goofy that this character could be alot of the time with the film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today being one such a film and so then join me I review the film that sees the dark knight team up with Harley Quinn with the film in question being called simply just "Batman And Harley Quinn" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when Poison Ivy and Floronic Man embark on a scheme to change the entire human race into plants and so it's up Batman, Nightwing and Harley Quinn and track her down and stop them before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as the films plot is goofy enough that it does somehow work and yet at the time it's also serious enough that we the audience to end up kind of buying into this films plot as out there as it does seem but in saying that tho this film plot does feel like it's a little bit on the weak side as while the film does give it's plot alot of screen time it doesn't spend alot of time in fully developing it's plot as alot of it is just spent with Batman , Nightwing and Harley going from one location to the next while getting into various scrapes which is fine for a scene or two but when that's the vast majority of the film with very little of those scenes actually adding anything to the plot of the film it does make you wonder why the makers of this film put those scenes in the film as they very easily could have filled the screen time just by developing the plot of the film which in turn would make this films plot feel all the more stronger then what it already is since as things stand this films plot feels more like the plot to bad episode of either the Harley Quinn animated show or Batman: The Animated Series with the plot of this film being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne / Batman and Melissa Rauch as Dr. Harleen Quinzel / Harley Quinn. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances which is something that does make alot of sense as alot of them have been playing their respective characters for quite literally decades at this point so much so that they are the voice of these characters for alot of people myself included and so it really does make alot of sense that they would nail their characters perfectly as they would know what kind of performance would best suit there respective characters and while she does turn in a good performance is Harley Quinn it's hard not to hear her character from The Big Bang Theory every single time that Melissa Rauch as even tho she puts on a voice for The Big Bang Theory it still does sound fairly similar to the voice that she uses for Harley Quinn in this film only more lower down and less high pitched with the best actor in the whole entire film of course being Kevin Conroy as the man just simply IS Batman with him proving in this film that he can play the character not only seriously like he did in Batman: The Animated Series but also play him so seriously that you do manage to get a few laughs out of him in the process and yet it oddly doesn't feel out of character either as he's still just that good as the character and while Loren Lester does very easily step back into the role of Dick Grayson Kevin is just pitch perfect as Batman with the acting that's in this very film really being helped by he fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film. 

Doing the animation for this film is the legends and the really greats that are currently over at DR Movie. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty i inn all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good which is not really all that surprising as DR Movie do usually do some pretty solid work and are usually pretty reliable the issue is tho is that there trying replicate the style of Batman: The Animated Series and that's just something that doesn't work this film as while they are a solid animation company and are a good choice to animate this film there usually better when there not just straight up copying somebody else's style but there zippy and zany animation does at times help to make the film alot more funnier then what it really had any right to be with the films backgrounds looking oddly simplistic for a direct to DVD movie so much so that you'd be forgiven for thinking that they were backgrounds from episodes of Batman: The Animated Series but there this films animation really does truly begin to shine is in the films action as the animation really does help to make the actin that's in this film really come alive and make it look like that each punch does hurt with this main being done through the characters facial expressions all of which do feel really on point in this film when by all rights the characters facial expressions could have been left unaltered and the animation would work just as well with even the animation team finding ways to have Batman show emotion through the use of his eyes in his mask which again worked really well to sell both the films comedy and the films action as well.

For some reason both this film and The Killing Joke both came out when Bruce Timm was trying to prove that Batman can be for adults as well as little kids. The issue is tho is that he already proved that back in the nineties with Batman: The Animated Series and where as that show told mature stories that had these very mature themes running through them and both The Killing Joke and this film the only things that was mature about them is the fact that characters hooked up with each other and that that they swore like sailors and that's it which is the more childish way to tell a mature as by all rights this film should have been a more adult tale telling the story of how hard it is for a criminal like Harley Quinn to even find work with her trying to go straight with there being one or two jokes thrown in there but the film instead chose to go the opposite way and instead have it so that Harley has already found a job which yes granted she's not that happy with as it is below her interms of her intelligence but there's nothing mature being said in this film as even Poison Ivy's scheme of trying to turn the human race into plants isn't saying anything mature as it instead feels like a scheme that she would come up with in a show that's aimed at kids whereas alot of scheme in Batman: The Animated Series had these more mature themes to them and while the only thing that was holding back The Killing Joke from being an actual mature take on Batman was THAT gross scene with Batgirl and Batman it was otherwise a really mature story where as here it felt like that the makers of the film forgot how to tell a mature story and instead just made a more mature kids film bottom line if you want a more mature Batman story watch the episode of Batman: The Animated Series called Heart Of Ice as that one twenty two minuet episode is more mature then this whole movie is.

This films co-writer Jim Krieg himself has said that he considers this film to be the strange red haired nephew to Batman: The Animated series. Which doesn't really make sense as not only do that show and this movie share the same two leading actors but the designs of all the characters are very similar to how they were in The New Batman Adventures as well with the only thing that separates that show from this film being the fact that the show was made for kids and that's really it with this film basically serving as the next episode of that show but at the same time tho this could also be because of the fact that the film was just using Bruce Timm's own art style and the fact that the show and this movie shared very similar looking character designs was just coincidental but if that is the case that Harley's fourth wall break when she mentions Nightwings mullet now makes no sense however this was to just be a nostalgia grab for the people that grew up watching that show then fair enough but at least have the courage to set it in the same continuity as it would have been more fun to see more of the world that we knew and loved thank to Batman: The Animated Series but thanks to the makers of this films own comments it does mean that this film both is and is not apart of that main series continuity which given that they have Harley dress up in her classic outfit throughout the whole film should be more then enough to make this part of the main series continuity however it does seem like Bruce Timm is ashamed of Batman: The Animated Series as he refuses to do anything related to Batman in that world despite the fact that there tons of stories in a feature film that could be told in that world.

While he is meant to be a main character in this film Floronic Man actually doesn't actually do all that much in the film. With him instead being more of a bodyguard to Poison Ivy and heck it's even hinted at that it's she that came up with there plan in this film with her being more a driving force when it comes to getting there plan down with Floronic Man only really doing something that's relevant to the plot when Harley in the most Harley way possible manages to convince Ivy not to go through with it as it could possibly mean that all of the human race could die if things are off by even a fraction but for alot of the time it's Ivy that's doing alot of the heavy lifting and for a plan that's this average really doesn't do her character any kind of favors as this films plan just feels like a waste of both characters as the plan really does hinge on Ivy acting out of the character as while she would want plants to rule the world she wouldn't want it at the expense of the human race as she would want herself to remain alive with Jason Woodrue coming more across as the typical high school bully type of character which fair enough does work well enough for his character but given that the two characters hated each other in Batman & Robin it does feel weird seeing them team up in this film and while there plan does work well with each others character it still doesn't change the fact that the plan as goofy as it is does work oddly well enough for this film as it is a goofy plan but it's also one that could have been alot more better then what it is in this film which to be fair having a more a goofy plan does work for this more goofy film but it would have worked even more f there scheme was a bit more well thought out.

Now then his films has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fourteen minuets and thirteen seconds. Which to be fair to this film is pretty much the exact running time that you'd expect this kind of film to have with this film even having the right amount of plot there cover that amount of running time however tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely tho as the plot of this film isn't that well developed and the plot moves at a really fast pace as well with the only thing that could gave helped this films plot out quite alot was if the fact that the film actually took the time that it really did need to fully develop it's plot instead of having things happen in the film that don't really effect the plot of the film as then the films plot would be allowed to be developed more and have alot more thought and effort put into it as well with this even effecting the films characters as well as none of them are given that much time to get across what there personality is meant to be apart from oddly enough Harley Quinn who comes across as bein the best written character in the film where as characters like Nightwing for example doesn't really get anything this is despite the fact that the character did appear in The New Batman Adventures and while it's understand as to why Batman didn't get all that much either as he's the most well known character in this film at the same time tho it still would have been nice if the film did showcase just what it is that made him a great character in the first place but for whatever reason the makers of this film thought that having more comedy was better then having actual character development but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho. 

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With alot of this films action being alot more better then what you'd expect from a film that's abasically an action comedy where the film puts alot more focus on it's comedy aspect then it does it's action aspect but even so this films action is more better then what it should have been as by all rights this films action should have been really bad but for whatever reason the action in this film came out alot more better then what it should have been with the films best action being when Batman , Nightwing and Harley Quinn first attack Floronic Man and Poison Ivy as we get to see just what it is that all three heroes bring to the team and how they all act together in a fight which is something that will always be a cool thing to see but the film does also have another really good action scene as well with that being the fight between Harley and Nightwing as we get to see just how smart Harley is when it comes to being in a fight with her using her environment to her advantage which is something that does make her a more smarter character then what people really do give her credit for with this film having alot of really fun filled action scenes all of which really do come alive thanks to this films animation with this film being a perfect example of the animation actually helping the action come across as being alot more better then what it really should have been in it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

Overall this film is not alot of people seem to loo back on really fondly and for good reason as the film does gave alot of bad things in it but in saying that tho this film does have just as many good things working for it as well all of which do make this film a really fun film to watch in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe 1983 "She-Demon Of Phantos" Review

To say that it's been quite a while since anything regarding the classic Masters Of The Universe TV show really was last talked about by me would be a huge understatement. As it's been a whopping FOUR years sine I last talked about anything from this show as such it was only about right that I put a stop to that right now and so then join me as I give you my review of the episode that has the most generic PSA at the end of it with the episode in question being called simply just "She-Demon Of Phantos" enjoy.

The plot of this episode when the Queen of a trusted ally to Eternia is suddenly put into Skeletor's control it's up to He-Man and friends to break that control before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as while it was yes granted a rather generic and simple plot that's also something that could be said for all of this shows episodes as the main purpose of this show wasn't to have deep thought provoking plots it was instead to sell toys and that's it and because of that they don't really need alot of plot in there episodes they just need the basic premise and the set up and that's it and that's all this episode has and while yes it would have been nice if the plot was a bit more well thought and alot less formulaic at the same time tho that would also be going against the style of the show as well but in fairness to this episode this is a plot that whilst it does work really well it's also one that's not all that good as it does feel loke a very paint by numbers plot with all of the plot beats that you know are going to happen happening but without any rhyme of reason to it which does cause the episode to loose it's heart and soul in the process as well as it's just that generic of a plot for this episode to have with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. As let's be real here nobody would expect or even want great acting from this show given that it was only made to sell the toys and that's it and yet that's really exactly what we got in this episode with it being clear as day that all of this episodes actors really are trying to turn in a good performance and make this show worth watching for more people then just it's intended kid audience and while granted this show doesn't demand great acting in it's episodes the very fact that these actors were more then willing to try to turn in a good performance does show you just how good of an actor that all of this episodes really are with it being quite hard to say just who exactly the best actor in this episode really is as to be frank here anyone of this shows actors could make that claim and it would be totally justifiable however if push did indeed come to shove i'd say that the best actor in this episode is Linda Gary just because of the fact that the three characters that she's playing are for the most part complete and total opposites of each other for large portions of the episode with her even having to make Queen Elmora still sound like a good guy when she's under Skeletor's mind control which is something that won't be that easy of a task to do in the first place with the acting that's in this very episode not really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so bad as it gives none of this episodes actors absolutely nothing to work with inters of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does hurt the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as even tho this episodes animation is nothing all that spectacular as is to be expected as this was done on a TV show budget there are moments of promise to be found in this episodes animation like alot of the backgrounds for example all look really good and even for a nineteen eighties TV show do look very highly detailed which does help in making Filmation one of the hidden gems of the animated world as alot of there works be for film or TV more often then not had some really good looking animation in them and yet because there not Disney , Warner Bros or Hanna-Barbera they will more often then not get overlooked by alot of people but in saying that tho much like with Hanna-Barbera the characters movements in this episode do come across as being a little bit stiff from time to time with them only getting very fluid movements during very brief and pointless scenes like for example both Prince Adam and Man At Arms only get very fluid animation after having a very brief talk with Queen Elmora and that's it as for the rest of the episode there movements are much like the rest of the characters movements in that there very stiff at best which makes you wonder why the makers of this show didn't bother to give all of the characters these really nice looking fluid movements all throughout the episode as when they do that it is something that does look really good and yet by not doing that all there doing is highlighting just how cheap there animation can be when it comes to the characters movements.

It's not unusual for this show to end on some sort of PSA with one of the shows characters usually He-Man giving the shows kid audience some sort of advice. While alot of what they say in these PSA's is usually very helpful and tied into the plot of the episode here in this episode on the other hand they go the other way with it and give us not only the most generic PSA but they also don't have to be tied into somethin that happened in the episode as here the PSA is all about safety not any particular kind of safety just safety in general which is so generic as the advice that they give could be applied to anything as it basically just boils to just be careful and that's it which is so generic that it's like the makers of this episode weren't even trying with this being made all the more laughable when you take into account that they could have done something that tie's into the episode due to the fact that Teela deliberately goes against her fathers order thus putting herself in harms way so there could have been a PSA on how the kids need to always do as there told when it comes to very dangerous situations as not doing so could end up with them getting hurt and hospital which granted is still pretty generic but it's also something that does tie into the episode and therefor doesn't really feel that out of place as the kid audience would have seen what could happen should they not follow the advice that was just given to them but for one reason or another the makers of this episode went with the most boring and most generic piece of advice that they could have given which makes it feel like that they just made a bunch of PSA's with the idea being that they could then use them in rotation for various episodes should the need to do so arise and didn't bother to come up with alot of creative ways to tie them into the plot of the episode.

Queen Elmora does seem to be a pretty good character as she is someone who is a friend to Eternia and actually has powers of her own. However tho at the same time like alot of this shows characters she does come across as being very note as all she does when she gets turned evil is hit He-Man with a few of her spells and that's it which isn't that good as we don't get to see how that impacts her as a character something which is made even more worse when Skeletor puts another spell on her so that when she sees He-Man she sees him as Skeletor which in all fairness isn't that bad of an idea but at the same time tho she does very quickly work out who the correct Skeletor is which does make that whole idea feel like the waste of a good tension building idea as she could have asked both Skeletors a question that only the real He-Man would know and heck they even could have had her attack He-Man thinking that it's Skeletor just something that would make that idea worth while but instead they have Teela interrupt before things start to get good to tell her that the person that she's seeing isn't Skeletor but is actually He-Man with her only figuring it odd when she casts a spell that she knows the real He-Man would be able to get off which again is a good ides but it's one that comes to little to late as the very fact that they had Teela interrupting the big showdown does undercut alot of the tension and whilst this is something that might have been done to appease either censors or parents groups it is something that does take you out of the story with this being somethin that should have been fixed just by not having Teela show up as then you could have scenes with Elmora struggling to work out which Skeletor is telling the truth and have her just ask them both a question that only the real He-Man would know the answer to and that's really it.

Speaking of everyone's favourite Skeleton he doesn't really have much a plan in this episode with his scheme being to replace take over the Queen's homeland which he does at the start of the episode. With him even replacing the minerals that Man At Arms and Prince Adam got to make there weapons from the Queen with some cheap knock offs which is quite literally one of the two only things that tip them off that something that's not the level as Adam points at the Elmora was acting strangely and that's it with Skeletors lack of a plan really falling to pieces once the heroes arrive back at the Queen's palace and it's something that does have you wondering what Skeletors ultimate goal is in this episode as everything he does in this episode seems to just annoy He-Man and not cause him any psychical pain which is something that des make Skeletor out to be a pretty weak and ineffective villain as if his end goal was to take over the Queen's homeland then the episode is already over before it began as he already did that before the start of the episode but if it was something else then it makes no sense as the Queen would already have access to these minerals which are meant to be the strongest in the known galaxy and very easily could have told Skeletor and his men where they are or his true evil scheme just wasn't explained at all as the makers of this episode just couldn't be bothered to give him one which does make his inclusion in this episode feel wasted as his role in this episode could have been taken up by any of the shows villains and it would have made total sense but because he's the shows main villain he just has to be in this episode even if he doesn't really have an evil plan to begin with.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running mee of exactly twenty one minuets and thirty seconds. Which to be fair to this episode is more in lone with the running time with the rest of the show as well as all of them have a very similar running time with this episode even having the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time but in saying that tho this episode really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as it's plot isn't that well developed and really can't be that well developed as the episode is more focused on just rushing along to the next predictable plot beat then it is in telling a good story and while kids TV shows around this same time did typically just tell single episode stories this is one that could have benefitted from being a two part story as that then would allow for the plot of the episode to be more developed then what it already with this having the add on effect on making Skeletor himself seem more like a villain that no only can het things done when it counts but it would also make him more of an effective villain as well with this also effecting the episodes characters since as tings stand all of this episodes characters aren't that well developed which again is more in line with other kids shows from the eighties but at the same time tho these characters could have been more well thought out and get the chance to be alot more developed then what they already since as things stand all of this episodes characters do come across as being very one dimensional and while that is fine for this kind of show it is something that does make this episode and this show come across as being a bit predictable but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / resented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With this episodes action being yes generic but in a fun way as we get to see He-Man and friends beat up Skeletors crew in some really fun ways with the only thing that does really let this episodes action down is the fact that we don't get see Man At Arms take down the guards that have Cringer locked up in a cell which is kind of a key plot point as it details the rescue of one of the shows main characters and yet the episode just completely skips over it like it's nothing with the best action scene in the whole episode being the final fight between He-Man and Skeletor in the Queen's throne room which works because of the fact that even tho we would have seen the two characters fight quite a few times now in the series other episodes it's what this episode adds to it that makes it good again as we get to see Skeletor be manipulative by trying to convince Elmora that he's actually He-Man which whilst it is an undercooked idea does make the action in that scene seem really good with even seeing He-Man escape this supposed unbreakable box just because he's the main character of the show is fun and campy and something that does make the action in this episode all the more interesting and fun to watch as well as it means that the makers of this show know that there making a bad show and a bad episode and therefor just willing to have some serious fun with this episodes action in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall whilst this show does do both He-Man and Skeletor better then the first live action movie could only dream of doing this episode really isn't the best example of just how fun that this show really could have been as this could have been as these two characters can be some really fun characters in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really des mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.
