Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1987 TV Series "It Came From Beneath The Sewers" Review

 

The Ninja Turtles franchise is one that will just keep on going and going and has been going and going for many decades. With the animated series that made it popular to being with being the 1987 animated series as that series introduced alot of things that we all know and love about the franchise and well since it'as been a long time since I last reviewed an episode of the show and so then join me as I review the episode that is really pretty violent with the episode in question being called simply just "It Came From Beneath The Sewers" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when the Turtles and April go hunting for pieces of an Alien key that hold untold power The Shredder unleashes a deadly plant to take care of the Turtles and April for once and for all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as it was the kind of plot that you'd expect to find in this show but at the same time it was perhaps a bit to campy for it's own good with the episodes plot at times feeling alot more like a parody of what a plot from this show was and like but at the same time I really will admit that the plot of this episode was at times really rather entertaining and really engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Cam Clarke as Leonardo , Rob Paulsen as Raphael and Townsend Coleman as Michelangelo. Also starring in this episode is Barry Gordon as Donatello , Peter Renaday as Splinter , Renae Jacobs as April O'Neil and Dark-Haired Boy , Jennifer Darling as Irma , Red-Haired Boy and Mother at Carnival , James Avery as Shredder and Pat Fraley as Krang , Baxter Stockman and The Circus Manager.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With the cast members that you expect good performances from well and truly delivering in this episode but at the same time the acting that we got in this episode just felt lackluster when compared to over episodes not that it was bad but rather the acting was just missing that extra special something that alot of the acting in other episodes of this show have with this not really being helped by the episodes script which just felt like that it was going through the motions and not really giving the cast a whole to work with interms of what there respective characters personalities even are or meant to be be for that matter.

Doing the animation for this episode is of course the legends and the greats that are currently over at A-1 Productions. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as while we did get some animation errors as is sadly very typical for this show the overall quality of the animation was really high and was of really high quality with the episodes animation really being alot better then what it really had any right to be as the episodes animation really fun to look at and had a some really good colors to it with the characters also really having some really nice and fluid movements to them as well.

What really does let this episode down is it's resolution as the episode has Splinter say generic stuff which the Turtles then somehow interpret in him giving them helpful advice on how to defeat the evil plant.Which just doesn't work as Splinter would give his sons actual helpful advice and wouldn't just say the most generic and at times rather confusing things as that's not in his character to do that as he would always help people out if they truly needed his help much like his sons did here in this episode and that is something that the makers of this episode just didn't understand as they barely use the character when the character would logically be used when we do see him in this episode he's on screen for a really very short amount of time and he more often then not really adds nothing to the overall plot of the episode when he's a main character of the show.

The idea of having a giant killer plant is an idea that's perfect for this show as it is something that is wonderfully campy and wonderfully bizarre. The idea really isn't fully developed in this episode as the plant really isn't set up all that well as we never get to find out what it s that makes the plant grow in the first place and while we do get to see where the plant came from we aren't given a reason as to why it's evil with it instead just attacking the Turtles and April for no reason other then because The Shredder told it to which does make sense as The Shredder is the show ultimate bad guy it doesn't really work well with The Shredders plans at all as his plan to steal apart of this key relies on the Turtles not knowing that he's going after it and yet he has a giant plant that's really only attacking people because he told it to and this is something that could have been fixed by having Baxter Stockman be the one that's controlling the plant and not The Shredder.

April in this episode really wasn't the smartest person as for no reason whatsoever even tho she knows that the Turtles would always want to meet her in there lair she follows a letter to a disused warehouse just because someone signed it from the turtles. While it is understandable why she followed that letter she's been around the turtles for quite a while now and would there for know that they wouldn't just leave a letter that they've signed out in the open where anybody could see it especially as she has her turtlecom with her at all tines and as such the turtles would most likely use that to get in touch with her with this not really being helped that like with Splinter she really doesn't really have a whole lot to do in this episode as really her only purpose in the plot of the episode is just to get captured and that's really it which granted is pretty much her role in the show as a whole it's really something that really is an issue here as she could have used her sources at the news station to help the turtles out and heck she even could have asked Irma who was right there in her apartment with her to see if she's heared anything about what's going on but she doesn't do that at all.

Now then this episode has /had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty two minuets and sixteen seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for this show to have and to this episodes credit it does make the most of that running time but at the same time this episode really didn't need to be that long as the episode really doesn't have alot of plot there to really cover that large amount of running time and as a result of this is the fact that we get some scenes that add nothing to the overall plot of the episode with the worst offender being the fact that we a good few minuets of a scene with the turtles being a clown act for the local circus and it's something that's never brought up ever again in the episode which made that whole sequence pointless and it could have been cut out of the whole entire but I will admit that this episode really does have really good pacing to it tho. 

So now then as this is an action show that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual actin that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty just as fun as you'd want it to be. With the action in this episode also being just as over the top as you'd want it to be as well with the the turtles having to go rather over the top in both of their fights against the giant mutant plant which just made both of those fights really fun to watch with the same thing also being true for there fight with The Shredder which was really just so fun to watch and also really creative to watch as well and that really did help up the overall quality of the action in this episode in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this was a perfectly fun episode it's also one that took the overall campyness of the show a bit to extreme despite being a perfectly good example of just how fun and over the top that this show can be in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then iv'e talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this episode in this very review and as such that means that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Doctor Who: The Rescue Review

 

Just like with a new actor playing The Doctor being brought in every single few years or so we also get alot of new companions coming in and out of the show as well. With it being very hard to get a debut episode for the new companion just right as you have to set up that character and still tell a good story at the exact same time and well the episode that i'm about to review for you all today is really one just such an episode and so then join me as I review the episode that sees a new companion join the TARDIS team for the first time ever with the episode in question being called simply just "The Rescue" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is The Doctor , Barbera and Ian land on the planet Dido and have to help the survivors of a previous crashed landed spaceship survive against the evil Dido native Koquillion. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty a bit on the simple side which I guess does make sense as these two episodes were only made just so that they could introduce Vicki into the show but at the same time tho it's a plot that could have been much better and just because it was only made to introduce a new character isn't an excuse for having a plot that is at best just OK but I will admit that this episodes plot is at times really rather entertaining as well as also being really engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is William Hartnell as The Doctor , William Russell as Ian Chesterton and Jacqueline Hill as Barbara Wright. Also starring in this episode is Maureen O'Brien as Vicki , Ray Barrett as Bennett / Koquillion and Tom Sheridan as Space Captain / Sand Beast. This episode does actually have somewhat of a record as it's one of the few Doctor Who episodes to have a very small amount of cast members while this episode doesn't top The Edge Of Destruction which only had the four main cast members it does beat out quite alot of Doctor Who episodes by only have cast members that are relevant to the plot of the episode which is something of a very rare thing for Classic Doctor Who to do and heck they even had two actors in this episodes basically playing to different roles in the exact same episode.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With this episode rather rightfully getting alot of praise for the acting in this episode and it's not hard to see why as all of the actors in this episode really do turn in some really good performance which for for the guest cast must have been a hard thing to do as there joining in a very hit show and yet they more then keep up with the series regular cast with Maureen O'Brien and Jacqueline Hill both being the true standouts for this episode as they both manage to turn in some really good performances in this episode with the acting in this episode really being helped by the fact that the script for the episode is just so good that all the episodes cast really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performances will come out of them naturally.

As stated at the very start of the review this episode does introduce a new companion to the show that being Vicki who as mentioned was played by Maureen O'Brien. This character at least in this episode does seem like a pretty fun addition to the TARDIS team with her having a sense of humor about her and her having quite the caring side to her but at the same time outside of her not really having a family left on Dido anymore we don't really get to see why The Doctor , Ian and Barbera should want Vicki to join the TARDIS as she doesn't really do anything in this episode to show us why she should be able to join the TARDIS with the character mostly just sitting around inside the crashed spaceship for both of the two episodes and her making a joke about Ian and Barbera's age and that's really it and it's not enough as even tho this is only her first episode we should be able to see why she should be able to join the TARDIS even more so when you take into account that this episode was solely made to introduce her as a character and yet the episode doesn't really do that at all for some rather unknown and really rather strange reason.

For sixties Doctor Who this episode had production design that was alot better then what it really had any right to be with Raymond Cusick giving us sets that are worthy to be in a feature length film. This is an episode really did need good production design in order to do it justice as it's a story that doesn't really require good or even great looking sets in order to do it justice and yet that's exactly what we get in this episode as not only do we get some truly good looking sets in it but it also had some really good looking model shots in it which for classic Doctor Who was never a new thing as even when the sets for any given episodes weren't looking that good the show nearly always had some good looking model shots in it with this episode being the except as we have both good looking and good looking model shots in it.

Sadly what lets the episode down quite alot is the episodes villain as Bennett / Koquillion isn't really around all that much on screen to make that much of an impact. With this not really being helped by the fact that not only is the villain not really that scary but he doesn't really have a plan with Bennett killing of all of the inhabitants of the planet Dido and planning to return to Earth for no reason which just makes him seem like a pointless villain as that could have been the plan for a much better villain and yet it was given to a character that people barely get to see to make a connection with him as a character as we don;t get alot of time with his character infact wen in total spend around five to ten minuets with his character and even then we get to find out nothing about his character and alot of the time it's just him being abusive to Vicki and that's really it and that's not really enough to make him a good and scary and creepy villain.

It was meant to be a twist that both Bennett and Koquillion are the same person and yet the twist is so predictable that you can see it coming a mile away. As Bennett is the only other human character apart from Vicki that we meet in this episode and we know that Vicki is a good guy in the show which means that the big reveal that Bennett is the main villain of the episode is a twist that doesn't work as there's no other people that it could be and even taking that out of the equation the episode really doesn't give us any kind of clue as to who the villain of the episode could actually be which makes this a pointless twist as you could have made the two characters separate from one another and the results would have been the exact same as nothing about the plot of the episode changes with Bennett being the main villain infact having them both be separate characters would only serve to help the episode out as you could the villain a more interesting plan and you could give Bennett some personality instead of him not really having one in the first place.

Now then while I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember what ever this episodes running time even was I do know that for a fact that this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of roughly forty five minuets. With this story being spread out over two episodes which is the biggest issue to be found with this episode as while the episode does have some really good ideas it's a story that really did need to be at the very least three or four episodes long in order to truly do it justice and with those added episodes the story could be fleshed out even more and we the audience could be given a reason as to why want to see Bennett loose and why we want to see Vicki join the TARDIS team and yet because of the fact that this story is just two episodes long both of those can't happen as the story has to rush along to it's next plot beat with this not really being helped by the fact that this episode really does have some truly awful pacing with the episode being far to fast then what it really should have been.   

So now then as this is an action show that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. As this era of Doctor Who really wasn't known for having great action in it in the first place and yet we still manage to get a fairly decent looking fight scene between The Doctor and Bennett which while it does really look a little sluggish it's also the best that they could have really done given the time and budget that they most likely would have had for this episode with that action scene being the only one that we really get in the episode and the team making this episode do the best that they really could have done with little that they most likely had to make it all come together in the first place in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this was a decent debut episode for the character of Vicki as she is decent and fun character to join the crew but at the same time the makers of this show could have and should have given her a much more stronger debuting episode to start her out with as this episode just really doesn't do her any kind of justice whatsoever in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked all of the good and as well all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

Worzel Gummidge Down Under "Slave Scarecrow" And "The Traveller Unmasked" Review

 

This show is the show that just keeps on giving as a few years after Worzel Gummidge ended the exact same writers , director and some of it's stars launched a spin-off series. With this series also serving as a sequel series to the original show this despite it dropping alot of the original shows main cast of characters and so then join me as I review episodes that sees the end for now of the franchises first straight up villain with the episodes in question being called simply just "Slave Scarecrow" and "The Traveller Unmasked" enjoy.

The plot of these first two episodes is the evil Travelling Scarecrow Maker finally gets his hands on Worzel Gummidge and turns him evil and it's up to The Crowman and Aunt Sally to turn Worzel good again and defeat the Travelling Scarecrow Maker for good before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty not that bad with the plot for this two parter being suitably epic for a two part episode and yet at the same time tho the episodes plot isn't really worthy of being a two part episode with the episodes plot being really very entertaing and really very engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in these episodes is Superted and Doctor Who star Jon Pertwee as Worzel Gummidge and Sherlock star Una Stubbs as Aunt Sally. Also starring in these episodes is The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord Of The Rigs: The Return Of The King star Bruce Phillips as The Crowman , Olivia Ihimaera-Smiler as Manu , Wi Kuki Kaa as The Travelling Scarecrow Maker and Jonathan Marks as Mickey.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that thew actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty not that bad. With alot of the episodes cast turning in some really good performances and while the kid actors aren't as good as the kid actors from UK set series of Worzel Gummidge they do make the most of what little that there given to do with the acting in these first two episodes really being helped by the fact that scripts for both of these two episodes being so good that all the cast have to do is just say the lines as there written and a good performance will come out of them naturally and while yes some of the actors aren't as good as others that's not a knock on the episodes script as that's more a knock on the actors not being as good as they should have been.

It's in this episode were we get to see something that wasn't shown in the original show and that's an evil version of Worzel Gummidge. This is a really creepy idea as the character at this point has been really harmless with him only displaying bad behavior due to him not really being that smart and there for doesn't know all that much but in this episode The Travelling Scarecrow Maker turns him fully evil with him setting out to kill his beloved Aunt Sally and while we do get to see Jon Pertwee pull of a great sounding evil voice for Worzel there's just something wrong about seeing Worzel Gummidge be as evil as he is this is despite it being a really good idea but at the same time tho it feels wrong because it's not something works well for this character and while they do give an in universe behind this sudden change it's something that should have been handled alot better then how it was handled in these two episodes of the show.  

One of the many things that this episode gets right is the fact that it gives Una Stubbs the chance to show just what kind of voices that she can do. With those voices really being good with her doing a very convincing Northern England type of voice at one point it's just a shame that the episode very quickly drops this idea just as soon as it introduces it as it could have been a great way to have some humor in what is two episodes that are more horror based but at the same time there is most likely a practical reason as to why the idea of Aunt Sally putting on different voices was dropped as doing different voices is hard work to do at the best of times and while it would have been great to hear more of the kind of voices that Aunt Sally could do it most likely would have been to difficult for Una Stubbs to do.

For some reason the makers of the show  chose to have Aunt Sally be the one to try and rescue Worzel Gummidge. Which just doesn't make all that much sense as Aunt Sally isn't the type of character to help anybody out as she's the type of person to leave a person who is in desperate need of her help just because it suits her to do so and given all that we've of the character in all of the previous it does seem out of character for her to be the one to go and rescue and while they do give a reason for why The Crowman couldn't do it it would have made more sense then having Aunt Sally do it or even having the children go and do it would have made sense as there Worzel's friends and would therefor actually really want to help him out where as Aunt Sally really isn't that kind of person something which we see at several points during part two of this two part episode.

To many this is one of the more scarier episodes of the franchise with this episode being pretty creepy even for a kids TV show. While the original show didn't shy away from having scary episodes either in these two episodes they really have alot of creepy with The Travelling Scarecrow Maker making scarecrows that are more in line zombies then they are actual scarecrows as they can only come alive at night and don't talk with his main goal to take all of The Crowman's powers which would enable him to make scarecrows walk and talk at any time and thus pretty much raise an army to take over the world which is a pretty creepy idea which is made even more creepier when we see that Aunt Sally is to scared to even go to his house and yet what's funny is the fact that parents in the UK complained about this episode being scary as it was shows early in the morning and yet they were OK with the original series having some scary scenes and episodes in it and yet those episodes were broadcast alot closer when children were most likely heading of to bed.

Now then while I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember whatever these two episodes grand total running even were I do know for a fact that both episodes has / had a combined exact grand total running time of roughly fifty minuets. With both episodes being somewhere around twenty five minuets each in length with this story really feeling short changed because of the fact that it's only two episodes as you very easily could have stretched this story out to three or four episodes which would have helped the story out quite alot as the second episode really does feel like a rush job with plot points just coming out of nowhere and the characters not really getting alot of the development that they should have gotten in these episodes which does make sense as this is a TV series but at the same time in a pair of episodes like this one they really should have given the characters really some form of character development but I will admit that both episodes really do have some really truly wonderful pacing to them.

So now then as this is comedy that means that I have to actually talk about thew actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty not that bad as we do get some funny moments during both of these episodes. At the same time tho the main focus of both of these episodes oddly enough isn't the comedy it's the horror and while the horror aspect is really well done the lack of jokes during alot of both of the episodes really does make it feel like that they put to much effort into the horror side of things when this should have been more like a horror comedy instead of a straight up horror with one or two lighthearted moments in it but when we do get a good and funny joke you really do notice it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this was a really solid two parter which does show just how good this sequel spin-off series could have been when it was at it's best and not let down by bad scripts in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in these very episodes in this very review and as such that means that these episodes really do earn themselves a combined grand total score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

The Muppet Show "Shirley Bassey" Review

 

Rather shockingly it's been a little over a year since I last reviewed an episode of The Muppet Show and well I suddenly got an erge to review another of the show. However with there being really so many episodes with so many great guest stars in them it was hard to pick an episode to review however what helped to narrow things down quite alot is the fact that Goldfinger is also my personal favorite James Bond film and so then so then join me as I review that sees a future Dame appear with the muppets with the episode in question being called simply just "Shirley Bassey" enjoy.

The plot of the episode is Scooter has to try and get some gold paint for there guest star Shirley Bassey's performance. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual, plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty on the thin side but that's kind of what you expect and want from The Muppet Show as this show really isn't known for it's deep plots with those mainly being saved for the movies with the show you want something that's rather simple and easy to follow as after all this is kids family friendly show and that's what the plot of this episode deliverers to us in spades with this episodes plot being really entertaining ad as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With all of this episodes cast members turning in some really good performances which really isn't all that surprising as this show has always had some really good acting in it with this episode being no exception to that rule as the cast at this point have been playing these characters for years at this point which means that this episodes cast would know what performance would best suit there characters in any given situation with the acting in this episode not really being helped by the episodes script as the script really just isn't up to the really high standerd seen in other episodes of The Muppet Show.

For some reason for this particualr season of the show they changed the way that they introduced each guest as instead of having them show up and having Scooter knocking on there dressing room we now have the guest in question walking up to The Muppet Theater before having a talk with Pops. This is a change that just wasn't work as while it does make sense to show the guests turning up to the theater the old set up worked better as they would have been there for hours rehearsing for the show where as with this new set up it makes it appear as if they just turn up having no clue what there going to do on the show and just go on stage and make it up as they go along which just wouldn't be the case at all as any one of this shows guests would rehears for whatever there going to do as there act on the show with that feeling being lost with this guest introduction. 

If your a James Bond then you'll be glad to know that this is the shows second James Bond guest with the first one appearing just a few episodes earlier in this very season of the show with that guest being none other then Sir Roger Moore himself. However were as Sir Roger Moore would have most likely have been on the show in order to promote "For Your Eyes Only" Dame Shirley Bassey is here just because she wants to be there and that is something that really does show through in the episode as it really does look like that she's having a blast working on this show with her getting fully stuck in on The Muppets type of madness and insanity and unlike the Sir Roger Moore appearance they don't make the fact that she's worked on a still hugely popular spy franchise the only joke about her infact they don't really make any jokes about her which they really should have done as Dame Shirley Bassey is known as a bit of diva but in a good way and they really could have played up that aspect of her and made that a running joke all throughout the episode but they don't do that for some reason which is weird as it could have a potentially funny running joke in the episode.

This episode really isn't the best of the show as while it does contain all of the typical madness that you expect from The Muppets. It doesn't contain any of the heart and soul that made and still make The Muppets stand out with this episode just feel anarchic just for the sake of feeling anarchic which is something that just doesn't work for The Muppets and while a more better episode could have pulled that of by having acts that are actually entertaining and could distract you from the rest of the episodes faults this episode doesn't have that going for it and as a result of that the episodes faults become bigger as we the audience are now forced to focus on them alot more with this episode lacking those emotional moments that help to make this show work with the show also lacking alot of that rebellious nature that the show is also really known for as well.

For some reason the makers of this show has Dame Shirley Bassey sing "Goldfinger" which is still a really good song. However when compared to "Diamonds Are Forever" which is a better song it's odd that they would only go for the song that's more popular thanks to the film instead of the song that's more better it's not even a case of the song that's more popular in it's own right as people that don't like the film "Diamonds Are Forever" still like the song and people that like the film "Goldfinger" alot of them don't like the song and yet they had her singing "Goldfinger" for no reason whatsoever which just doesn't make sense as the makers of this show are usually pretty good in choosing the better song for an artist to sing and almost never go with the song that's more popular which makes it all the more weirder that they would do so here heck given the year that this episode was made in they could have had her sing "Moonraker" and have her sing it with the cast from Pigs In Space.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty five minuets and thirty two seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for this show but on the flip side of that is the fact that this episode really doesn't have a strong enough plot to really justify that long of a running time with the episodes main plot being really thin at best but enjoyably so but thin none the less with this being made worse by the fact that the acts that are featured on this episode just aren't that fun or creative to watch with none of them really justifying there length either with alot of them just being there really just for the sake of being there and not because there really creative to look or because there entertaining to look at all of which make them feel like a chore to sit through in this episode all of this does make the episode a slight chore to sit through but I will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. However that's also the issue as the comedy in this episode wasn't all that good either with there being alot more bad jokes in this episode then there are good ones but when we do get a good joke in this episode you really do know about it's just a shame that we have to sit through alot more bad jokes just to get to one or two decent jokes which only become good when you compare to the rest of the bad jokes that are in this episode in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this episode quite clearly isn't The Muppets at there best but at the same time it's also quite clearly a sign that the makers of this had done all that they could have done with the characters in a TV show format in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode that are in this very review and as such that really means that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

Doctor Who: The Invasion Of Time Review

 

With the announcement of a new classic Doctor Who season getting released on Blu-Ray as apart of the beloved The Collection range. It was only about right that to get us even more excited for this upcoming Blu-Ray release that I take a look at an episode from this season and after trolling BBC IPlayer to find the perfect story tom review I think that i've found a really good episode and so the join me as I review the episode that sees not one but two companions leave the show for good with the episode in question being called simply just "The Invasion Of Time" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when some aliens invade Gallifrey The Doctor has to try and stop it but someone far more sinister lurks in the shadows. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad altho that's also the issue as this episodes plot isn't that good either with the plot of this episode being very weak at worst and quite hard to follow along with at best as the plot has so many twists and turns that it leaves you confused as to what's actually going on but at the same time tho I will very much admit that the plot of this episode is also really rather entertaining and also really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Tom Baker as The Doctor , Louise Jameson as Leela and John Leeson as The Voice Of K9 Mark I. Also starring in this episode is John Arnatt as Chancellor Borusa , Milton Johns as Castellan Kelner , Chris Tranchell as Andred , Charles Morgan as Gold Usher , Hilary Ryan as Rodan , Dennis Edwards as Lord Gomer , Reginald Jessup as Lord Savar , Max Faulkner as Nesbin , Ray Callaghan as Ablif , Michael Mundell as Jasko , Gai Smith as Presta , Derek Deadman as Stor and Stuart Fell as A Sontaran.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. Which is really nothing new for this series as this series has always had some really good acting in it with this especially being true for the Tom Baker era of the show and as such to expect bad acting from this episode wouldn't have been wise but what does let the acting down quite a bit is the fact that the script for this episode just isn't that good as the script doesn't really give the newer actors alot to work with interms of what there respective characters personalities are even meant to be and as a result of this is the fact that the acing in this episode isn't as good as it really could have been as the episodes script just really won't allow for a good performance..

This is the episode that sees technically two companions leave the show for good with the first of which being Leela. With the character having only been in the show just over one season of the shows run and yet even so she very rarely got any development as a character with her character being in the same place that she was in when she first started travelling with The Doctor which does make sense as the character forced her way onto the TARDIS with The Doctor never really taking a liking to her but at the same time there should have been moments in this episode where she expresses her desire to leave the TARDIS for good and yet she doesn't as she just chooses to leave at the end of the episode after apparently falling in love with Andred something which was also never even hinted of at all during the events of the episode.

Leela wasn't the only companion to leave the TARDIS tho as K9 Mark I also left altho this one both could and couldn't be considered a companion departure. As at the end of the episode The Doctor is seen with a box labelled K9 Mark II which implies that The Doctor had every intention of replacing the original K9 with an updated model but at the same time given that K9 did spend most of this series as a companion to both The Doctor and Leela it is possible that this could also count as a companion as well as he does choose to leave the TARDIS to stay with Leela in order to keep her safe and where as Leela's departure came out of nowhere it makes sense for K9's departure to come out of nowhere as he after all a robot and would there for not really express the desire to leave as that's not something that he's programmed to do.

For some strange reason this episode has alot of comedy moments and comedy music in it all of which just clash with the episodes tone. While the show has always had more lighthearted moments in it it was never to this extent with the characters frequently making jokes and with the show now adding in comedy music with the shows more lighthearted moments coming in not at the start or near the end of the episode which is when you'd want these more lighthearted moments but they come right in the middle of the story when they story is meant to be it's most serious and yet the episode has the characters frequently cracking jokes or doing something that's meant to be funny and all it does is create tonal whiplash as the episode flip flops between having a deadly serious moment in one moment to something more lighthearted the next with this episode even stopping the plot just to tell what might be a fairly bad joke. 

To put it bluntly the villains for the first half of this story The Vardans just don't look that terrifying at all. With them looking badly greenscreened in pieces of tin foil that have been lazily put on something to make them float as that's how bad the characters look granted classic Doctor Who was always made on a very small budget but they very easily could have come up with some better looking designs for these creatures as there current design just makes them look like jokes and while granted they aren't the main villain of the story but you still have to make them look them good in order to make the actual reveal of who the real main bad guys are even more shocking having these characters look as bad as they do doesn't make them look threatening and it doesn't make them look scary and as a result of that is the fact that the reveal of who the real bad guys are isn't as shocking as these villains just look incredibly weak.

Now then while I cannot for the absolutely life of me remember what this episodes exact grand total running time even was I do know that for a fact that this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of roughly two hours. Which is a fairly solid running time for this episode to have as this episode is made of six episodes with the episodes really being a story of two halves with the first half dealing with The Vardans as the main enemy and the second half dealing with The Sontaran's as the main enemy all of which doesn't really work as it makes the second half feel like it was added on late in the day as the main story was all wrapped up by the end of episode three but for some reason the makers of the show chose to add an extra three episodes to this one episode which means that the main story does start to get spread really thin which is a shame as the idea of The Sontaran's trying to steal the TARDIS is a really good but it's one that's not as fully developed as it really could have or even should have been for that matter but it's not that's given the time that it needs tho but I will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. Granted classic Doctor Who has never really had great looking action scenes in it and what little action we do get in this episode is indeed really good for the time that it was made in it's also alot more slow with the character of Leela doing all of her moves really slowly which is something that does bring down the overall quality if the action  in this episode as all it does is take you out of the episode but when we do get a good action scene in this episode you really do know about it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this episode wasn't a bad but it's central idea isn't as fully developed as it really should have been with the episode being a very confusing and tonal mess for alot of it's running time in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.

Shirobako: The Movie Film Review

 

As with live action shows it's not uncommon for anime TV shows to get turned into a movie what is unusual tho is when that TV show only lasted one single season and it still finds itself getting turned into a movie. Which is the case for this movie as it's based of off a TV show that only last one single TV season which does make it an odd choice to get a movie adaptation as it's not really a choice that people would think of for an anime to get a feature film adaptation and so then join me as I review the movie that's all about the making of an anime movie with the movie in question being called simply just "Shirobako: The Movie" enjoy.

The plot of this movie is sometime after there TV show was cancelled an animation studio has just ten months to fully produce an animated movie. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as it's a plot that does stick true to what the show was about whilst also updating it rather fittingly for the big screen but on the flip side of that is the fact that the episodes plot really does feel like the plot of an extended episode of the show and really nothing more then that as there's really nothing that screams big screen plot in this movie altho this movies plot is really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Now then interms of what Impersonally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Which really isn't all that surprising as this film is using the same cast from the show and as such the cast would know what kind of performance wold best to suit there characters with all of the films cast really giving us the kind of performance that is best suited for a feature length film with the actors in this film really being helped by the fact that the films script is just so good with it being filled to the with good stuff in this very film that all this films cast have to do it simply just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them really naturually.

Doing the animation for this film is of course and the legends and the greats that are currently over at P.A. Works. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films animation being alot better then what it really had any right to be as nobody would have blamed the studio if they chose not to give us some good animation as the story itself is one that doesn't really lend itself to good animation and yet that's exactly what we got in this film in this film with all of the films backgrounds being insanely detailed and all of the characters having some really nice fluid movement to them.

To give you guys an idea of just how steeped in anime culture that this film is the makers of this film gave this film an anime TV style opening. Which was just so much fun t see as you could very easily see it as the opening to anime TV show as it hits all of the beats that you'd expect to see in an anime TV show opening including having the main character point at the sky with there mouth wide open for no reason which really just goes to show you that the makers of this film really do understand alot of anime culture as that is such a small detail that they didn't really have to put in this film and yet they included it anyway which was just a fun thing to see as it really was just a fun and funny part of this film.

The very idea behind this whole franchise is a really good idea as we the viewer never get an inside look of how our favorite movies and TV shows are made. Yes we'll get the odd behind the scenes the video released by whatever company is releasing something that week but that's really it and yet to see a movie detail how they make an animated movie was really interesting it's just a shame that the movie presents in a pleasant light when we know for a fact that animators in Japan are under paid and overworked and yet this movie doesn't touch on that which it really should have done as that could have made for an interesting part of the movie as making a fully animated movie in ten months when it usually takes anywhere between two to four years would really overwork the animators in this movie and yet the movie never touches upon it which is something that it really should have done as given the short time that the staff have to make a movie it would have been a very relevant to bring up and address in this movie as the film could have brought up some really organic drama and the film could have addressed something that alot of Japanese animators go through all the time and yet it really doesn't for no reason whatsoever.

One of the weakest things about this film was the fact that the film doesn't really build up it's dramatic plot points. With the characters always mentioning this show they had that failed and yet there's no build up to it it just comes out of nowhere and is implausible as having one TV show being cancelled isn't enough to almost bankrupt an animation studio you need a series of very bad business decisions for that to happen none of which appear in this film and later on in the film when they find out that the original producers of the film that there trying to make could sue them for some reason there's no build up to it as it just comes out of nowhere and is there just so the main character can have that forced moment where there meant to feel down before something perks them back up and that moment is just so incredibly forced in this film and it just doesn't work at all in the slightest which really shouldn't be the case as the idea is a very solid one and it's one that could have worked if it had been built up by having characters from the films original studio appear in this movie in a sort of antagonistic role in this film.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and eight seconds. Which is such a long running time for any film let alone an anime film to to have and while this film really does have more then enough there interms of pot to cover that really large amount of running tie this film really doesn't need to be that long as you very easily could have streamlined this films plot and got it's running time don to a more manageable running time which would have helped the film out quite alot as the film does get quite dull to watch around the half way point and very rarely if ever picks up steam again with this film not really having alot of padding but because it doesn't take the time to fully develop plot points to there fullest extent it really does make alot of this film not really worth watching but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it for the most part tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured /presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film being alot funnier then what it really had any right to be as the film itself doesn't really lend itself to comedy and yet we get alot of really good jokes in this film from the various references to other anime , to the anime opening , to even the characters just having some really good banter with each other this film is filled to the brim with some really good jokes with alot of this films jokes feeling very characters driven and while there are some bad jokes in this film  those don't represent the majority and are infact the minority as this films jokes are for the most part really funny in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film was so much better then what it really had any right as be all means this film really shouldn't have been that good and yet we get a film that is shockingly good and is a must watch for any film or TV show fan that's interested in seeing in just how there favorite TV gets made as the very idea behind this film and the struggles behind that this films characters really go through could apply to any medium not just animation in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked abut all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are really in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.
