Batman: Assault On Arkham Review

Batman fans this is a review that's been on my list of things to re-review for a while but I was saving it for a rainy day well it just starting pooring. I honestly couldn't have picked a better day to re-review this movie since there's just been a trailer released for the next animated Batman movie it has nothing to do with this movie but it's something that I thought i'd mention anyways. Alot of people myself included say that Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay is the first animated SS movie which is technically true but the team was also used in the movie i'm re-reviewing so here is my review of Batman: Assault On Arkham.

The plot of the movie is Batman works desperately to find a bomb planted by the Joker while Amanda Waller hires her newly formed Suicide Squad to break into Arkham Asylum to recover vital information stolen by the Riddler. Honestly the plot of the movie is perhaps it's weakest aspect since while it is a fun story it's a story that doesn't feel like it fits in the world of the Arkham games which isn't a good thing since this film is meant to be set in that world.

Starring in this film is Kevin Conroy as Batman / Bruce Wayne , Neal McDonough as Deadshot / Floyd Lawton , Hynden Walch as Harley Quinn / Harleen Quinzel , Matthew Gray Gubler as Riddler / Edward Nygma , Troy Baker as The Joker , C. C. H. Pounder as Amanda Waller , Giancarlo Esposito as Black Spider / Eric Needham , John DiMaggio as King Shark / Nanaue , Jennifer Hale as Killer Frost / Louise Lincoln and Nolan North as KGBeast / Anatoli Knyazev and Oswald Cobblepot / Penguin.

DC animated films usually have great casting and the same is true for this film every character is cast perfectly altho i;m not going to lie I prefer Tara Strong as Harley. What adds to the great performances at least in my opinion is that they got alot alot of actors from the Arkham games to reprise there roles in this film and to me that shows because those actors know those versions of the characters and can thus give a performance that is truly fitting.

The animation was done by MOI Animation who have worked on alot of DC animated films in the past and there usually a good choice for good looking direct to DVD animated films. The same thing is true here since the animation is honestly really top notch i'm not going to say that it's the best animated DC film out there because anyone with half a brain will know that honour goes to Mask of The Phantasm.

Like I said this film takes place in the world of the Arkham games so everything that happens in this movie is canon. Just that thought alone creates some issues with continuity with those games since alot of the characters seen in the movie don't look like there game counterparts but that aside it was while watching the film that I came up with a cool idea that would connect this film to the first game what if the start of the first game also served as the ending to this movie that to me is a really cool idea. 

If you thought that a certain scene in The Killing Joke was weird then you should really see this movie because the same thing happens only with Deadshot and Harley you all know the scene that I mean. In this movie tho the scene in question isn't as bad since there criminals so of course this scene would happen between them that said tho it's still weird seeing the whole thing play out but it's not as bad as the one in The Killing Joke.

This film isn't R rated but it really should have been since they get away with alot of stuff for a PG-13 film. There's alot of blood , alot of gore , alot of nudity and of course there's the scene with Deadshot and Harley which pretty much speaks for it self how this film was not rated R is beyond me but if I was to guess i'd say that the MPAA doesn't really care about direct to DVD films since that's the only reason I can think of for this film not being rated R.

I have to admit that I liked how this film introduces the squad and I honestly think that they did it better then the live action film. In this film were introduced to the squad by seeing them in action so that right there tells us all we need to know about the team and you could also argue that they give you some of the personalities of each of the characters. Where is in the live action we do get something similar but we don't get to find out about the characters but rather we're told about them which doesn't work at all.

Now this was something that I didn't notice when I first watched the movie but the cartoon Harley is watching on her phone at the start of the movie is the awesome Looney Tunes Show from 2011. That right there says that Harley is the best character because that show is a great show and the fact that she's watching it makes her awesome. I honestly can't believe that I didn't notice it before because i'm a Looney Tunes fan.

Now since this is a superhero movie we have to talk about the action in the movie and in my opinion that's where the movie excels both in terms of the animation and in kicking a*s. I don't know why this is but for some reason animation companies always put alot of effort into making the action scenes really well animated but hey it works in this film at least in my opinion. The action scenes are also really fun to watch since we get to see what alot of the characters bring to the team when it comes to fighting.

Overall this isn't that good of a movie but it's easily better then the live action Suicide Squad movie I only wish that they could have a better job of connecting it to the Arkham games. That said it is still a fun movie with all of the craziness that you'd expect from a Suicide Squad movie so it gets a 6.5 out of 10 from me. 

Dc Super Hero Girls "#SweetJustice" Review

DC fans the day has finally come i've been waiting so long to watch the first few episodes of the the DC Super Hero Girls TV show. To tide me over until the series officially premiered i've been watching all of the shorts which while fun are never going to top the full thing and well on Friday the show officially premiered with a four part special which i'm not going to be reviewing for you all and you can also count this as my first impressions for the series as whole so here is my review of Dc Super Hero Girls "#SweetJustice",

The plot of the episode is Barbara Gordon has just moved from Gotham to Metropolis and on her first day makes friends with five other girls  Diana Prince , Kara Danvers , Zatanna Zatara , Jessica Cruz and Karen Beecher they must learn to not only be friends but also work as a team in order to defeat someone who is taking over Metropolis. In terms of first episodes this is pretty basic it's the kind of first episode you'd expect from a new show but I think that this works to the specials advantage because no one knew what to expect going into it.

Starring in the special is Grey Griffin as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman , Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl and Harley Quinn , Nicole Sullivan as Kara Danvers/Supergirl , Kari Wahlgren as Zatanna "Zee" Zatara/Zatanna , Myrna Velasco as Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern , Kimberly Brooks as Karen Beecher/Bumblebee , Cassandra Lee Morris as Spoiler Alert , Will Friedle as Lex Luthor. Now i'm a fan of the original web series so I have to wonder why didn't they just bring over the voice cast from that show because to me that makes alot of sense and if you follow the show you'll notice that alot of actors do reprise there roles in this special.

As for what I thought about the acting does it even need to be said because alot of these actors are legends so of course for the most part it'll be great. All of the actors that you expect to deliver a great performance really do deliver and I honestly had no idea that Will Friedle was even in this series and I can guarantee now that you know he's in the show you'll either just hear his character from batman Beyond or Ron Stoppable because that was me when I found out the original Shego was playing Supergirl.

Now since I do plan on reviewing the show at some point i'm not going to list who's done the animation just because i'd be repeating myself when it came to the series review. I will say tho that when the designs for the show were first revealed I wasn't the biggest of fan of them but now after seeing the designs in action threw not only this special but also the shorts I do like them but I still prefer the designs from the web show.

As for the actual animation I have no idea what the budget is for this show but it's money well spent in my opinion because my god is the animation in this special truly something to behold. Every movement leaps of the screen with the kind of energy that you'd expect in a show from  Lauren Faust and heck half of the jokes in this special are made funny because of how well the facial expressions are.

As I mentioned earlier in this review the show and this special are based of the web series also called Dc Super Hero Girls and so you'd expect certain things to carry over. Get ready to be let down alot on that front because while the show does take place in a high school it's not super hero high it's Metropolis High and all of the character act very differently from there web series counterparts so it would be best to view this show as something that's set somewhere else in the DC Multi-verse.

 Now my big issue with the web series is that even the villains are acting like superheroes and so far just by going of this special that doesn't look like it's going to be the case in this series. That for me is a good thing because it's how those characters would act in those situations of course tho I can't say if that's going to always be the case but there's once scene that hints at that and even tho it's a scene that doesn't effect the plot of the special to me it says the characters that are usually villains act like actual villains.

This review isn't that long because of the fact that this special is only like forty five minuets long so it's just the first four episodes edited together. To be honest im ok with Cartoon Network airing premier episodes as these hour long episodes since it's a great way to tell these epic stories and to get across who each character is and what there like in a more natural way which is something that you wouldn't be able to do if it was just eleven minuets long since everything would need to be rushed.

I touched on this before but this special is actually really funny there's a lot of great jokes and alot of what makes them funny comes down to the great facial expressions. I've honestly lost count at how many times I laughed during this special and that for me is a very rare thing to do and now that I think about it the character that actually got the most laughs out of me was Barbara herself and that's due to I think just how much energy she has.

In terms of the actual action seen in this special there's alot more of it then what I thought there would be and that's not to say that I wasn't expecting there to be any action scenes it's just there was alot more then what I thought there was going to be. To me that's a good thing because it was something that caught me of guard and the action that we do say if really good for a kids show you get to see all of the main girls use there powers in all of the fights so there for you get to see why they should be on that team.

Overall this wasn't a bad premier it sets up something which I hope they follow up on as the series progresses and if your excited to watch the series from next week they'll be airing new episodes. This is by no means a perfect set of episodes but it's alot better then what I thought it was going to be so it gets a 7 out of 10 from me.

  

WWE Volume 4 Women's Evolution Review

Now then wrestling fans and comic book fans I thought i'd take a look at something a little different and yet something that combines my love of both worlds. So I thought that WWE has a comic book series still running and so here I am taking a look at it now I know your asking why are you starting with volume 4 well that's because these comic book adapt storylines from the main shows anyway so you can jump in anywhere and pick up the story and so here is my review of WWE Volume 4 Women's Evolution.

If your a wrestling fan you'll know by the name of the volume what this story named after but shockingly that's not the plot at all. The basic story follows Bayley she raises through NXT on her quest to make it to the main roster. In terms of the story is told it's told pretty well given that the volume is only four issues long they don't include her rivalry with Carmella tho.

Now i'm a huge wrestling fan so know Bayley's story and from these four issues I got the feeling that the writer for the series really wasn't that big of fan, Just because even tho they the basics for each match down he skips over alot of key character moments for Bayley and that means that we can't really connect with the character which for me is a key thing since she's the focus point of this whole story so he could have made some effort into detailing those character moments.

I know I didn't really focus that much on the story but that's honestly because outside of the Bayley stuff there really isn't a story to speak of. They could have done a whole story just based on the women's evolution and how it and they change a bit of history because in the first issue of this story they say that it's called the Women's Evolution when at the time it was the Divas Revolution it didn't get the name Women's Evolution until much later.

The writer for this volume is Dennis Hopeless with a side story written by different people and in all honesty the writing for the main Bayley story is pretty basic Dennis gives you the basics of who each wrestler is and gives you nothing new. The side story is focused of Asuka and does actually tie into the main story by the end of the volume and I feel that the writing in that side story is actually worse then the one in the main story because at least in the main story you get a sense of who the characters are which is something you don't get in the side story.

The art for this series is done by Serg Acuna and I have to say that all of the wrestlers both make and female look like there real life counterparts. However there are times where the art looks a little rushed which is odd because Boom Studious usually kills it when it comes to the artwork in there stories and just like the writing is kind of a lot down it's not bad at all but it could have been much better.

For a volume called "Women's Evolution" they don't actually spend anytime explaining why that evolution started. Well to be fair they do explain why the Divas Evolution started that's really it there's nothing about why the Divas Evolution failed and why they needed to rebrand / reboot it with the Women's Evolution which is a shame because it's a key part of it's history and it's something that shouldn't be ignored.

This storyline only lasts three issues lasting from issue fourteen to issue seventeen which really isn't alot of time to tell any kind of story. If you wanted to tell at least a semi decent story then this storyline should have been at least four or five issues long since then you could have included alot of character stuff and added things to each of the characters but as it is all of that goes away and the story get's rushed.

Yeah remember when I said that Bayleys match with Carmella isn't really covered all it gets is two panels and that's it. That really is a shame because it was a really good match and the two really did have good chemistry but none of that comes through in this version of it because there's so little time dedicated to the characters and so little time given to the story of the key matches if anything this volume should have been called WWE Volume 4: The Rise Of Bayley since then cutting things down would have made some form of sense.

Now i'm not sure if this true or not but for some reason they chose to make the comic book version of Bayley a neat freak. Which if your in the know about the wrestling you'd quickly realise that it would be difficult for someone who is a neat to be on the road wrestling every day for a huge amount of the year so why they chose to add this little characteristic is beyond and it's not something that even goes anywhere.

Now since this is an actual wrestling book it means I have to talk about the wrestling featured in it and god knows how i'm going to do that. I'll say that the moves are drawn pretty well  with alot of the finishing moves that you'd associate with a few superstars being represented here and I can't help but wonder if the artist was told to put all of there effort into making the moves look good because that's when the artwork is at it's best.

Overall as i've said several times in this review if this volume was about the actual Women's Evolution then it wouldn't be that bad but since it chooses to focus on Bayley it fails in alot of ways all of which i've covered so it gets a 5 out of 10 from me. If you guys like this review i'll give some serious thought into reviewing the WCW comic book from Marvel.

My Thoughts On Some The So Called Controversy Surrounding Captain Marvel

Before I start this post I want you all to know that I wasn't even planning on making this post I was just going to address what's been said in my review of the movie but the more I thought about it the more I realised that this needs to be it's own thing. So in this post i'm going to address alot of things that has been said about Captain Marvel as well as some of the controversy surrounding the new movie.

Now if you recall some time Brie Larson came out and said that she doesn't want White Men to see and review the movie. If this was an attempt to get more women to see the movie then she's failed big time because those critics hold a huge amount of power am I saying that she shouldn't have said anything no but what she could have done is said " I want more women to watch and see this movie" that way there would be no controversy to speak of but because she didn't she's alienated a huge portion of the audience and In case your wondering I got this from a website called The Irish Times.

Now this next bit on controversy came in what I think is an innocent comment made by myself I can't recall the exact day this was posted but some leaked promo art for Avengers: Endgame came out and I pointed out that Marvel was pushing the character down our throats. My god did alot of people hate that because I got alot of hate with the general message being that I was somehow sexist yeah that's complete BS because at the time Marvel had to just released yet another relaunch and the fact that thew character is front and centre of not one but two TV specials and dozens of TV spots for the movie it really does seem like there pushing the character down our throats. 

I know alot of people will argue the opposite and that's fair enough but to outright call someone sexist when they've said nothing of the kind that's where I have to draw the line. You can disagree with someone all you want infact it's healthy for you do that but to say that someone is saying sexist things when all there doing is saying that it feels like the character is being shoved down our throats isn't right and it makes you look like a bad person.

In all honesty everything surrounding this film is starting to feel like the Ghostbusters reboot you all know what I mean your wrong for liking the movie or in this case wanting to go and see the movie and your wrong for not wanting to see the movie. Once again there's no middle ground and that's not a good thing for either side regardless if you want to see the movie if you want to want to avoid so I ask both sides actually listen to what the other is saying because it might not be as bad as you think it is.

Now this last thing is kind of a recent one i've only just been saying it the past few days but apparently people are trying to boycott seeing Captain Marvel and go and see Alita: Battle Angel. Now this isn't a bad thing if there doing it for the right reasons in that they generally think that Captain Marvel looks like a bad movie but if there doing it because of the fact that they think that Alita represents women better without even seeing Captain Marvel then that's not the best of reasons and we all know that this is going to fail not because of all the controversy surrounding the film but because it's a Marvel film.

So there we go guys these are just some of my thoughts on the "controversy" surrounding Captain Marvel. I'm not going to lie alot of comments out there are generally sexist and against women but not all of them are and that's what we have to try and find out and not just group all of them together because that's just not going to help anyone.    

   

Saga Volume 1 Review

Comic book fans you guys have seen me review alot of books featuring mainstream characters but for once I thought i'd dig a little deeper and find something that's not as well known. After many hours of trying to find the perfect comic book to write a review on I think i've found something truly special and it's also something that I myself havn't even read so here is my review of volume one of Saga.

The plot of the first volume is newly weds and new parents Alana and Marko are members of different races which were at war with each other. After the birth of there daughter Hazel the couple decide to escape the planet in search for a better life and do so by looking for something called the Rocketship Forest. In terms of what I thought of the actual story it's not badly told nor is it a bad story it's a pretty simple story and it's because of that that the story works in my opinion.

Now i've done a bit of digging and this is listed as an epic space opera / fantasy epic which to me makes it sound like Star Wars mixed in with Lord Of The Rings. With that being said that's pretty much exact what this first story is and if that's something you think you'd enjoy then this is the series for you. Even tho I like both Lord Of The Rings and Star Wars I don't really think that they should have been mixed together and in all honesty this first story is pretty dull.

I know i'm going to get alot of hate for what i've just said but in order to do a review you have to list both the positive and negative aspects of whatever it is your reviewing. That said there is alot to love about this story for example the lead characters are really likeable which is always a plus because you want your main heroes to be likeable but at they same time they also feel very relate-able.

The book is written by Brian K. Vaughan who's also worked on alot of X-Men books and alot of stuff for DC. I've not read anything that this guy has written and based on this first arc i'm really missing out because this first story is really well written and given how well received the whole series is i'm going to assume that it's the same for the rest of the series as well. What really did shock me was how good the world building is in this first story like I want to get to know more about this world and that's just from reading the first six issues.

The artwork was done by Fiona Staples who's shockingly not worked on that much outside of the ongoing Archie series from 2015. That really is a shame because damn is her artwork beautiful i'm, not even kidding her art work looks so freaking good it's easily the best artwork that i've seen in a long long time and I hope that she gets to work on more high profile books since her art needs to be seen by more people.

How do I put this but alot of not only the images but also the content in the book it self for a more mature audience and the more mature content doesn't actually feel forced if anything it feels very freaking natural and organic. I will say tho that having a lot of mature images doesn't help reviewers like me since now i've got to choose my images very carefully and this is also a warning to adults as well because there's a lot of swearing nudity and scenes of a sexual nature and that's just in the first issue heck there's even planet who's sole purpose is for people to get laid.

Now just to make things a bit more clear for you guys the first volume of this book is the first six issues of the series. One story lasts six issues and thus one volume is only six issues long and given that there's over fifty issues of this series there's going to be a lot of volumes to collect which i'm sure is worth it if your a die hard collector but since that's not me i'm going to tell you right now i'm not going to review the next volume of this series this will be the only review you'll see for now just because reading alot of volumes is alot of work for any sane person to even try.

These two images form part of the reason why i've had to throw up a warning earlier in the review just because I could very easily see alot of people taking issue with the fact that i've used images that not only feature nudity but also gore. Also possibly adding to that fact is the fact that in a rather bold move the front cover shows a young woman breast feeding that's something that's never seen on a comic book cover and I think it's brave of Image Comics to allow a book that has that as the cover to get released.

Now there is a little bit of action in these first six issues and I have to say that the action is honestly pretty decent and I hope that it gets better later on in the series run. Now alot of the comic books i've reviewed all feature characters i'm familiar with for example when you pick up a Deadpool comic even if you've just seen the movies you know what to expect from him here tho I was discovering these characters for the first time and that was honestly really refreshing since it was like I was reading the book when it first came out.

Overall I know that this review didn't do the book as a whole justice and it's only just scratched the surface of what was in the first volume but I honestly feel that i did a good job covering this epic volume because that's the best word I can use to describe it as epic and I hope that this doesn't get adapted into anything this first volume gets an 9 out of 10 from me.

  

  

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo DC Comics Review

Dragon Tattoo fans i'm huge fan of the this franchise while i've not read all of the books outside of the first one I have seen both the original Swedish films and both American ones. The one thing i've not done however is review the comic book adaptation of the first first book and well that's going to change right now and i'm going to warn some of the images chosen in this review might not be suitable for young readers so here is my review of the DC Comics version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Now in case you didn't know the plot of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is in the mid sixties a young girl goes missing and her uncle believes one of his relatives killed her and so in present day hires a disgraced journalist and a hacker to find out who did it. Honestly for me to give me thoughts on the plot I would also have to dissect the mystery of the story so for once i'm going to give my thoughts on both later on in the review.

Now there is actually two comic books based on this story out there there's one published by DC Comics and another published by Titan Comics and as the name of this review will tell you i'm doing a review based on the DC Comics version of the story. This book is so freaking dark and I think for this story and this world that honestly works and it's one of the many , many , many things that the recent Sony movie got wrong.

Unlike regular comics this was released as a two volume graphic novel which I think was the right choice to make because if they were adapting it in regular comic book form they'd still be releasing issues. This book is very dialog heavy and when I say dialog heavy I really do mean it there's a ton of dialog on every single page and alot of it is important to the plot and that's something that I can see putting alot of people of because I myself skipped alot of it but I could afford to because i've seen both film versions alot.

There's one scene which I hope to god gets included in every adaptation of the story because of how crucial of a scene it is to the character of Lisbeth. If you've seen the above picture and you've seen either the original Swedish film or the American remake then you'll know the scene in question and i'm glad that it's in this comic book version of the story but there are a few things changed like you don't get to see Lisbeth lay down the terms of his release which while not important is still a cool thing to see.

The writer for the book is Denise Mina who would also work on the other two books by the original author Stig Larsson as well as A Sickness in the Family and I have to say that even tho she's adapting work from a great author Denise really does her best to manage this really complicated plot line. The artwork was done by Leonardo Manco and Andrea Mutti now I have no idea who drew what but the overall quality of the artwork in the book is of a high standerd.

Now seems like a good time to talk about the mystery and the story because like I said before there one in the same in this case. I thought that the mystery was honestly really well told even tho i've seen this story dozens of times before it still gets me interested and I like the fact that the author of this adaptation was able to find a balance between giving you clues as to what really's going on and letting the characters breathe and the fact that there's also kind of a mini mystery added as well makes things more interesting at least in my opinion.

Now depending on where your seeing this review you'll have seen my review of The Girl In The Spider's Web and will thus no that I hated how they treated Lisbeth in that story. For me tho nothing beats how she's treated in the original trilogy of books and films because she's treated not as someone who's a female action hero but as someone who has issues getting along with men due to her backstory and she'll go to any length she deems necessary to get revenge on them which is what shew does in this story.

In all honesty Lisbeth is my favourite literary heroine because of the fact that she doesn't take shi* from anyone. She's the kind of person who'll tell you to fu*k off if you annoy her and is somehow still the best at what she does she is everything Rey from Star Wars wishes she could be because while Rey pretends to empower women Lisbeth does it just by being herself and I can't believe that when people bring up strong female characters they don't even mention her.

To say that this is a mature comic book would be a freaking understatement heck even tho there's a lot of mature images used in this post there was alot more that I could have used but chose not to due to how mature they are. Heck even in what I think is a famous scene I only use the end of that scene because it's the only image that i really could use but here's the thing alot of those more mature scenes also add to the overall horror not only of the world that this book is set in but also due to the story.

Overall if you love the Swedish film or the American film or even the original book then you'll love this version of the story however if none of those grabbed you then don't expect this story to grab. Is it a perfect book no i've even listed some of the faults that I found in the book but it's damn freaking close so it gets an 8.5 out of 10 from me.

Pryde of The X-Men Review

Now then comic book fans you'll know that i've already reviewed the original X-Men animated series and well I found out that the series had a pilot episode. This episode is infamous for alot of creative choices especially what accent they give to the ever popular Wolverine but i'll get into that later on in the review because trust me I have alot of thoughts on this so here is my review of Pryde of the X-Men.

The plot of the pilot is Magneto is broken out of prison and somehow tries to take over the world. Yeah the plot of this episode isn't it's strongest suit in fact there's alot about this episode which isn't good. Not helping the plot is the fact that it's so freaking rushed I get that this is a pilot episode and thus they wouldn't know if they were getting more episodes but it would have helped if they picked a story which would fit in perfectly with a twenty two minuet time frame the story they go with here is better suited to being a two or three part episode.

Starring in the pilot is a young Kath Soucie as Kitty Pryde , Alexandra Stoddart as Dazzler , Michael Bell as Cyclops , Andi Chapman as Storm , Ronald Gans as Juggernaut , Alan Oppenheimer as Blob , Neil Ross as Nightcrawler , Earl Boen as Magneto , Pat Fraley as Pyro , Dan Gilvezan as Colossus , Patrick Pinney as Wolverine , Susan Silo as Emma Frost , Fred Flintstones boss Mr. Slate as Professor X and Frank Welker as Toad and Lockheed.

How do I describe the acting in this pilot they got alot of good actors infact alot of them are voice acting legends but tho there not given much to do. The same thing can also be said for the rest of the actors there acting isn't that bad but it could have been better and alot of that comes down to the script I honestly feel that if the script was better then the acting would have been better.

Now let's talk about something that this pilot is infamous for even tho it wasn't first done in this pilot and that's the fact that they give Wolverine who is Canadian an Australian accent. Now this was done because among many things the success of Crocodile Dundee but it doesn't make sense since the character like I said is Canadian so why they chose to make this change is beyond me heck even when the show was in product the Australian fad was dying out anyway.

Now like the animated series this series uses a new mutant to introduce the rest of the crew in this case it's Kitty Pryde. This honestly isn't a bad idea since it's a good way to introduce all the characters in a short amount of time but tho the difference is in the animated series Jubliee wasn't an annoying character Kitty or at least this version of her spends a good amount of the episode whining about anything and everything I honestly just wanted her to shut up for a few minuets.

Now this is something that will please fans of Dragonball and Sailor Moon but the animation for this pilot was done by the great Toei Animation. For a pilot the animation is honestly really good in fact i'd say it's the best part of the whole pilot and alot of that comes from the fact that the budget for the animation was pretty freaking high so they put in alot of effort into making the animation look good it's just a shame that they didn't do that for the rest of the pilot.

This pilot also has narration from the late and great Stan Lee and as much as I love me some Stan Lee he just wasn't needed in this pilot. I don't even know why they chose to have him act as the episodes narrator since it's only twenty two minuets long and there's not that much story so it would be pointless to have him in the episode at least in my opinion.

One thing that was very apparent all throughout the pilot is the fact that it seems alot more dumbed down when compared to the more mature X-Men The Animated Series. On the one hand I can see why I chose to make this more for kids since that's where cartoons where when this thing came out in 1989 but on the other hand by making it more geared towards kids they also ignore some of the more mature undertones that the franchise is known for.

Another change that was made in the pilot is the opening and the opening theme song in my opinion the theme song in the actual series is far better but tho the theme used in this episode isn't that bad. Don't get me wrong it's still pretty bad because it doesn't get you excited for the show at all if anything it feels like a generic 80's kids action show theme and not something worthy of the X-Men so i'm glad that they changed it when the series was eventually made.

Also feeling pretty dumbed down is the action I know that that's a weird thing to say but I say it because of the fact that alot of the time during an action scene when someone goes to throw a punch they'll cut away for no reason. By doing that it makes it hard for me to fully judge the action since you can barely see it and for some reason the show thinks that Cyclops's powers can work through a helmet which if you've read even a single issue of the X-Men comic books or even seen one episode of the animated series you'll know that that's not the case.

Overall in terms of how pilots go this is very rough around the edges you can see where the series would have gone if it was picked up which as well know wouldn't happen with this pilot. That said however it's only something i'd recommend watching if you want tot see what the X-Men animated series could have looked like and so this pilot gets a 5 out of 10 from me.
