Spider-Noir TV Series SPOILER FILLED Review

Even tho the character of Spider-Man has been in alot of live action films he's really been in two live action TV shows both of which were in the seventies. Well now we have another new show to add to that list with this show actually doing two things different the first of which being the fact that you can watch the show in both color and black and white and the second of which being the fact that it is the live action Spider-Man project not to feature Peter Parker and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the show that might be based watched in black and white with the show in question being called simply just "Spider-Noir" enjoy.

The plot of this show is five years after the death of his fiancée is killed at the hands of a criminal retired superhero and private investigator Ben Reilly finds himself dragged back into the hero game when he agrees to take on a case that involves a supposed cheating wife. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show well hen in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show was in all honesty really good. The shows plot was quite frankly alot more better then what it really had any right to be as by all rights this shows plot should have been a very generic and a very by the books superhero show with a noir twist put on it and that's really it and while there are hints of that being the case. The shows plot does add in enough things to keep you invested that when it does drop certain plot lines for reason you don't really feel it with the fact that it does drop certain plot lines being something that does hold the plot of the show as for no reason the show will start another plot and then drop it a few episodes later only to then pick it up again with this being something that does make it hard to tell just what the main plot of the show was meant to be when it would have been all the more better if the show just picked one plot line for it's main plot and just ran with it and not not just randomly start a new plot line every few episodes as that is something that will confuse the audience watching this show with the plot of this show also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this show is one of this shows executive producers Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly / The Spider and Lamorne Morris as Joe "Robbie" Robertson. Also starring in this show show is Li Jun Li as Felicia "Cat" Hardy , Karen Rodriguez as Janet Ruiz , Abraham Popoola as Lonnie Lincoln / Tombstone , Jack Huston as Flint Marko / Sandman , Andrew Lewis Caldwell as Dirk Leyden / Megawatt , Amanda Schull as Ruby J. Williams , Lukas Haas as Winston , Cary Christopher as Frankie , Michael Kostroff as Alfred Morris and Brendan Gleeson as Finbar "Finn" Byrne / Silvermane.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show well hen in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show was in all honesty really good. To be frank the fact that this shows acting was as good as it is is something that is still quite surprising as while yes the show does have some really good actors in it alot of this shows actors aren't that well known and yet they do turn in some really good performances in this show and while they don't out act the likes of Nicolas Cage or Brendan Gleeson for that matter they do tun in some really good performances in there own right. With the best actor in the whole entire show being Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly / The Spider as he does carry the whole show with him giving us a really powerful performance as the character ss while the show does add in moments of humor with Ben Nicolas does pull them really well and when the show does have a dramatic moment he does really turn it up and while he doesn't have you in floods of tears during those moments you do feel the characters pain with both him and Brendan Gleeson clearly having a blast acting in scenes together and to be fair watching the two of them do a scene together is alot of fun to watch as we are watching two really good actor just knock it out of the park with there acting with Nicolas not really being afraid to go to those more wacky places with his character with this being something that does shine through in his final performance. With the acting that's in this very show really being helped by the fact that this shows scripts are all just so good that all this shows actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very show. 

Doing the CGI for this show is Alchemy 24 and the legends and the greats that are currently over at Industrial Light & Magic. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show well hen in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show was in all honesty really good. The thing that does make this shows CGI be so good in the first place is the fact that it does blend it really well with the show with the shows live action elements with the show really only using CGI in scenes where it would be impossible to do them for real. Like for example extending the shows sets to make them look bigger or by having The Spider swinging threw New York all of these things are things that would have been hard to do for real and therefor the only way to do them would be to do them in CGI. This isn't to say that the shows CGI is great all of the time tho as there are scene in the show where the CGI does look a little bit two much like a cartoon like whenever Megawatt uses his powers as while alot of the time the effects on them do look good there are times where it does look a little bit two fake with the thing even being true for the scenes where we can see Ben in the passenger seat of a car with the car moving as the projection for alot of those scenes does look a little bit of and while it is clear that the makers of this show wouldn't give the effects team alot of time to finish those scenes as alot of them are nothing scenes  it does lower the overall quality of the shows effects. With things like Megawatts powers being something that should have had more time given to them given the fact that he is a minor character in the show however when the show does have some good effects like Ben swinging threw New York it is something that does look really good with it being something that does show that the makers of this show did know when to use CGI and when to do things for real.

Like with alot of noir films and TV shows this one does have a femme fatal character which in this case is Cat herself. With the character being someone who is madly in love with Flint Marko so much so that she'll do anything to see him cured of his powers and yet the second that she believes him dead she gets Ben to fall in love with her this is something that is an interesting part of the show due to the fact that she and Ben were planning on running away together and yet because of the fact that she loves Flint alot more then she does Ben she turns him into a doctor that wants to use him for own ends thus leaving Ben broken hearted. The theme of love and what it can do to you is something that we see all throughout the show as we get told by Ben himself that the biggest mistake he made prior to episode 1 was falling in love with him struggling to cope with the death of Ruby so much so that he gave up being The Spider as he believed that her death was his fault and yet when we see him fall in love again this time with Cat he is not only all the more wiser but is also willing to take a chance which does make it all the more upsetting when she does betray him. When it comes to Cat it's clear that she is the type of character that has never not had a boyfriend and therefore sh does struggle with knowing what to do when she believes that she doesn't have one anymore and even tho Flint has barely been missing for a few days by the time she starts to flirt with Ben the two of them do still form this connection with each other where they are both able to tell the other things that they might not have done otherwise. The show does go to great length to show us both the up and the down sides of being madly in love with with someone as the show do0es show us Ben being really happy when he thinks that he's found true love with Cat and yet the second that she turns on him he realises that she's played him like a fiddle and the first thing that he does is get drunk and be the same depressed person that he was at the start of the show.

In what is a rather cool move there are actually two ways that you can watch this show the first of which is in color and the second is in black and white. Watching the show in color is alot more easier for more modern audiences to do as it is something that they are more used to do however given the fact that this is noir show and alot of those classic noir films were all done in black and white this is show does seem like it would be a much more better watch in that format as it would be more true to the classic noir genre as then you could have all of these harsh shadows hitting the characters and you could have characters walking out of the shadows alot more often and this is something that you just can't do in color. Due to the fact that we can see everything clear as day and while the characters do still have those harsh shadows hitting them alot of the time it feels like it's lacking something when its done in color but on the plus side tho it is understandable why the makers of this show did give us the audience a choice between the two formats as there will be people who will find watching the show in color alot more easier then watching it in black and white just due to the fact that they are more used to watching films and TV shows in that way and that's fair enough, much like there will be people who will want to watch this show in black and white as they'll want to get the proper noir expirence and that is something that you can't fully replicate when watching the show in color as alot of the noir films were never made to be seen in color even the word noir means black in French but the fact that they went out of there way to produce to different versions of an episode is something is to be commended as its something that alot of studios just won't do and will instead jus force us to watch the one version of something even tho watching it a different way might be the better option.

Silvermane might be the best villain that the makers of this show could have used for this season of the show. As the character isn't that well known and therefor they do have alot more room to do whatever they want with his character and to be fair he does seem like the type of character that you would want to meet in like the first film of a new series as while he yes he is threatening and he is cunning he's also someone that our hero could very easily beat in a fight if he wanted to do with it being made clear that this take on the character was done as a way for Sony to say that they had there own version of The Penguin as the two characters are very similar to each other with them even both being played by an Irish person. Yet Silvermane doesn't really have an endgame as he spends a good portion of the first half of the season trying to work out who burnt down his house and tried to kill him and spending a few episodes of the rest of the season trying and failing to get an army of superpowered people to help him take over New York this is something that does make it hard to get a good read on who he is as a character as his motivations seem to be shifting from episode to episode when giving him one clear goal in mind be it to built up his superpowered army or to find out who tried to kill him would have been more then enough to make him a truly threatening character and heck out of the two motivations its him trying to work who killed him that brings out his more evil side as there we do get to see him kill people in cold blood. This is something that we don't get to see with the rest of his evil plan and it is something that could have made his character be all the more unlikable as he does spend alot of time talking to the mayor of New York saying things like how he could have him replaced and yet when push does do come to shove we don't see him kill him and heck its not even Ben that kills him its Cat which yes does make sense for her character but for the main villain you do want him to get killed off by the main hero of the show.

Now then this show has / had an exact grand total running time of no longer then forty nine minuets with episode six having the shortest running time of forty six minuets and thirty five seconds and episode episode five having the longest running time of forty nine minuets and twenty five seconds. These are pretty solid running times for this show to have but what does let the show done is the fact that there are two few episodes in this first season as you very easily could have gotten a good ten episodes out of this first season alone which would have the advantage of letting the plot of the show breathe a little bit more and it would allow for the show to pick just the one main plot line and not just pick up and drop it's main plot line whenever it chooses to do so with the show having more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of plot in the first place. Yet even with the show having eight episodes it still doesn't use its running time all that wisely as the show doesn't take the time to fully develop its plot with the show being alot more focused on giving different plot lines then it i in giving us a more focused and well developed plot something which it would have been alot more able to do if the season was just a few episodes longer as then the show would have that time to explore these multiple plots whilst having the one overarching plot line. This is something that does effect the shows character development as well as understandably the only character that does get some sort of character development inn Ben as he does go from someone who is running away from his past to someone who does fully embrace it by becoming The Spider once again and while it is understandable why he does get alot of the shows character development as he is the shows main character we don't see characters like Cat , Janet or Robbie get any kind of character development with us knowing just as much about them coming out of the show then we did coming into the show but I really will admit that this show really does have some really good pacing to it tho. 

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very show was in all honesty pretty good. The fact that this show does have alot of good action in it isn't something that's all that surprising due to the fact that the makers of this show also made the highly entertaining Spider-Verse films and therefor they do know how to craft some really good action something which does come into use alot of the time in this show with us getting at the very least one action scene per-episode in this show. With the best action scene in the whole entire show being the fight scene in episode seven "Nobody's Hero" as we do get this really cool bar room fight scene where a drunk Ben dressed in his The Spider mask decides to take on a bunch of people that where making fun of him for not being as good they remember him being with the whole fight scene being done in one continuous shot which is always something that will be really impressive to see as if one person mistimes something that they have to start the whole thing over again from scratch and yet it is something that they do pull off really well in this episode with the scene itself having moments of comedy with the people getting moaning in pain alot of the time with it being that great mixture of comedy and action being something that two of the shows other executive producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller do really well and it is something that is used to great effect in this scene with the scene itself being just as hard hitting as it is funny to watch with the rest of the shows action being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall we are starting the summer months of good with this show and here's hoping that we really can end next month just as good as we've ended this month. As Spider-Man: Brand New Day does have alot to live up to now as this show has proven that you don't need Peter Parker playing Spider-Man for it to be good as all you need is a good script and good acting and both of those are things that this show really has in spades in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very show in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very show really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

My SPOILER FILLED First Impressions of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Spider-Man as a character is one that's been a touchstone of Marvel since the sixties with the character appearing in dozens of TV shows and movies. Well now then it seems that we can add another show to that list as the first two episodes of his newest animated TV show have just dropped on Disney+ and well then you all just knew that I had to check them out and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED first impressions of the show that ruins a classic theme song with the show in question being called simply just "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" enjoy.

The plot of these first two episodes is in the first first episode Peter has to come to terms with the girl that he likes having a boyfriend whilst also trying to deal with his new life as Spider-Man whilst in episode two Peter has to deal with being a new intern at Oscorp. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in these first two episodes well then in all honesty I inn all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in these first two episodes was in all honesty not that bad as they both do manage to capture the every day aspect of the Peter Parker down perfectly but at the same time tho there's really nothing to these episodes interms of actual plot with the plot of both of these episodes being thin at best and whole this something that could change over the course of this first season it's also something that doesn't set the show of on the best of grounds either as it makes it look like that the plot is coming in second to the shows visuals when it really should be the other way around but what little plot that there is is solid enough to make this show worth watching to see how they take the mythos of this truly legendary character with the plot of these first twp episodes also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Gallo , Anjali Kunapaneni as Jeanne Foucault , Aleks Le as Amadeus Cho , Paul F. Tompkins as Doctor Bentley Wittman , Zehra Fazal as Doctor Carla Connors and Jake Green as Butane.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in these first two episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very first two episodes was in all honesty not that bad. Which was alot better then what it really could have been as alot of this shows actors aren't voice actors there live action actors and there is a huge difference between acting on camera and acting into a microphone but this shows actors do manage to turn in some really good performances in these first episodes and while of curse there acting will indeed get better and better as the show goes on just based off of these first two episodes alone the acting does seem to be off to a really good start as it's clear as day that all of this shows actors are cast pitch perfectly for there respective characters with them all being really well cast which is something that Marvel Studios is really good at doing and that is something that thankfully does indeed continue with the casting of these actors in this very show with the acting that's in these first episodes also really being helped by the fact that the scripts for these first two episodes is also really good and so all this shows actors really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performances really will come out of them naturally which s something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in these first episodes.

Doing the animation for these episodes is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Polygon Pictures and CGCG, Inc.. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes well then in all honesty I inn all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty really good with the show using an art style that makes the show look like comic book panels which is something that does really work for this show as it makes it look like the comic book panels have come to life but at the same time tho it does also limit the amount of detail that can be added to the characters and that is something that could potentially hold the show back especially when it comes to characters like Doc Ock for example but for these two episodes the animation really did look really good and was to be frank one of the best aspects about both of these first two episodes as it was something that not only catches you of guard with how good that it looks but the more simplistic designs also go along way in capturing that old school Marvel Comic look with even Peter himself kind of looking like a more up to date of his original design from the sixties and while the characters aren't really given alot of fluid movements in these two episodes the show does give them what could best be described as being more realistic movements which work fine for these first episodes but it is something that could become annoying to watch in later episodes tho.

In a really rather bizarre move this show both does and doesn't take place in the MCU as it's meant to take place mere months before the events of Captain America: Civil War and yet none of the characters apart from Aunt May look like there film counterparts. To make things even more confusing is the fact that in episode one of this show we have the same portal design from the MCU with even a possibly different universe version of Doctor Strange showing up to fight an alien symbiote something which hasn't happened in the mainline MCU as of yet all of these are things that do make it confusing as to if it's canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe or not as alot of the shows that have been produced for Disney+ including the animated ones have in some ways been canon and yet here it really is hard to tell if that's the case or not and this is something that the makers of this show should come out and clarify as even the show itself started out life as being canon to the MCU with it even being due to star Tom Holland as Spider-Man and yet from these first two episodes alone it is something that really does make it hard to tell if this show is canon to the MCU or not and while this won't put people off watching the show either way it is something that should be clarified just because of the fact that the first episode of this show does have things that were made possible due to the MCU and it will also stop people from being confused as well.

As with alot of Disney+ shows Disney have decided to drop the first two episodes of the show however unlike alot of the other Disney+ shows they'll also be doing the exact same thing for alot of the shows first season. Which just seems pointless as you could have gotten alot more viewing hours if the show was released weekly as that would then equal people talking about the episodes for longer over social media as well and yet by releasing all of the episodes two at a time apart from next week and the week afters where there releasing three episodes of the show which just makes it even more pointless and it makes it look like that Marvel and Disney are ashamed of this show when they really shouldn't be as they do have a really solid show on there hands and this is something that they clearly already knew about as they've renewed the show for a further two seasons PRIOR to the show even debuting so they knew that they had a hit show on there hands and yet they still went with a faster release schedule when releasing one episode a week would not only drive up numbers for Disney+ but would also mean that us the audience can theorize over what's going to happen next week as both episodes end on pretty big cliffhangers with episode two even revealing that Norman Osborn now knows that Peter Parker IS Spider-Man something wouldn't have much of an impact if they released three episodes this week but the fact that they didn't do that now means that us the audience can now theorize about what could happen to Peter now that his secret is out of the bag.

There is one thing that both of these episodes managed to get right about Peter Parker's personality and that's the fact that he's just a normal kid. He's a kid that doesn't know how to get the girl or would even struggle to do his homework let alone hand it in on time he's your next door neighbor's kid because that's how normal and average that he is and that's something that does come across rather beautifully in these two episodes as we not only see him struggling to talk to the girl of his dreams but when he does get the courage to ask her out it turns out that he's two late as she's dating somebody else and we do see him struggle to even get up on time to catch the train to school and it's those things that might seem little in the grand scheme of things but they also help to make Peter Parker feel more real and that is something Stan Lee wanted for the character as it made him more human alot of us struggle to get up in the morning be it for school or work or whatever and alot of us struggle to talk to the one person that we love but haven't had the courage to ask out yet and to see Peter go through those issues in both of these episodes does say that the makers of this show really did understand that core concept of the characters as without that you basically just have another superhero and that's really it and that's something that works for Spider-Man or for Peter Parker as well as it is something that does help to make him more human and because of that he also comes across as being a more relatable character on top of that.

Now then episode one of this show has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty seven minuets and twenty seconds and episode two of this show has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty five minuets and fifty seconds. With episode two having the much more better running time but at the same time tho it is understandable as to why episode one was as long as it was as while both episodes don't really have alot there interms of plot episode one did have alot of backstory and character setup to do where as episode two didn't have any of that and even tho the show is pretty much skipping over the entire origin story for Peter Parker apart from showing him getting bitten by a spider from another dimension it still would have been if episode one justified it's slightly longer running time by giving us more of Peter's backstory or even giving us some backstory for Norman as he only appears right at the very end of episode one before taking on a similar role in episode two which for a character that's this iconic doesn't really do him justice and as such the makers of this show could have put in some of his backstory into episode just to help to make his character more of a parallel to Peter and heck both of the episodes really could have spent same time in making the shows recurring characters more fully developed as well as we are going to be spending quite alot of time with those characters as well but I really will admit that both of these episodes really do have some really good pacing to them tho. 

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action this actually featured / presented to us in these first two episodes was in all honesty not that bad. However that is also the problem as alot of the action that's in these first two episodes wasn't all that good either which is something that does make sense as Peter is only just starting out as Spider-Man as such he wouldn't be able to do all of the cool things that Spider-Man can do in a fight just yet because he's not learnt it yet but at the same time tho the action in both of these episodes does come across as being really flat and boring to watch as there just so repetitive to watch with even both of the episodes having three action scenes across both episodes which is fine as you can't expect a thirty minuet show to have lots of action scenes in it but you still at least have to show us something us something that's interesting during any of those action scenes with the only good action scene in both of these episodes being the one with Doctor Strange at the start of episode one as we get to see Strange struggle to defeat an Alien Symbiote as that's something that we really haven't seen yet in the MCU and we also get some plot during that scene as well as that's when we get to see the spider that's presumably from Doctor Strange's world bite Peter with the action in that scene alone being really good and really fun to watch as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall just based off of these first two episodes alone the show does seem to be worth watching and the fact that's already been picked up for both a season 2 and a season 3 does mean that we might be in for a good show but only time will tell if this show is indeed a show that not only good but also worth watching as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in these very episodes in this very post and since this is only my first impressions I won't be giving this show a rating however if this post does decently well and if you guys want me to check out another episode then I will do it and that post would then be a review of that episode and that episode only and not a review of the show as a whole.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series "Kraven The Hunter" A ShortReview

It's been quite a while since I last spoke about anything from the classic Spider-Man: The Animated Series. Well with Kraven The Hunter just about to be released this seemed like the perfect chance to kill two birds with one stone and so then join me as I review the episode that sees Spider-Mn come face to face with Kraven for the first time with the episode in question being called simply just "Kraven The Hunter" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is Spidey has to protect a professor who is being harassed by her exboyfriend who is more animal then man. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as it eas the kind of plot that you'd find in this show and to be fair this episode does the most with what very little plot that there is to begin with but that's also the issue as this episodes plot isn't all that strong of a plot to begin with with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

Starring in this episode is Christopher Daniel Barnes as Peter Parker / Spider-Man and Ed Asner as J. Jonah Jameson. With the actors from this show that you expect a really good performance from giving us exactly that but that's also the issue as this episodes could have been so much more better then what we got as all you have to is look at Batman: The Animated Series more specifically the episode "Heart Of Ice" which on paper could have been a really bad but due to how good that shows cast was they turned in great performances but here this episodes actors just seem lost on what to do acting wise with the acting that's in this very episode also being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so good that all this episodes actors really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad as it did look really good but at the same tome tho it was also lacking that extra special something to make it standout and feel different from all of the other animated superhero shows that were bring made and airing at the time but to this episodes credit when we do see some really solid looking animation it is something really does stand out because of how good that it was.

This was the first episode of the show to feature the character of Kraven The Hunter. With this episode giving us a good look at his backstory with him being a big game hunter who was forced into becoming a tour guide when hunting animals became illegal where he then fell in love with Mariah but only became the way that he is when after he was attacked Mariah was forced to give him an experimental drug which cure and heals all injuries but over time slowly turns you more animalistic which is a really good backstory for the character as it perfectly explains how the character became the way that he is in a way that feels real but givin that this is a comic book show then the makers of the show really should have leaned into aspect of the show and just had alot of fun not only with the character himself but also his backstory.

For some reason even tho the show is named after him Spider-Man himself barely has an impact on the plot of the episode. As Mariah was already working on a cure to give Kraven in the first place and when he's tasked with tracking her down by Kraven Mariah herself just goes straight to Kraven and heck it could even be argued that having Spider-Man in the story makes the story worse as its due to him that Robbie finds himself being kidnapped by Kraven all of which makes it feel like that Spider-Man was forced into this plot when not having him in the story wouldn't affect the actual plot of the episode with Spider-Man feeling more like a side character in an episode of his own show.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly nineteen minuets and forty nine seconds. Which is a solid running time for this episode to have but at the same given that alot of shows from around this same period usually had twenty two minuets it is still odd to see an episode have less then twenty minuets with this having the add on effect of making things like Kraven and Mariah falling in love feel rushed when it's something that would have been better told if the episode took its time in telling there romance like instead of having Kraven's backstory told in one go have it be told over the course of the episode as that would then make us the audience really care for there romance and have it play into whatever Peter is going through thus actually giving us a reason for Spidey actually being in this episode but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. As the episode really dies have some really good action scenes like having Kraven and Spidey fight each other on the side of a building which is a good idea and even there final fight is good in parts but the issue is tho us that the action on the whole despite having a few bright spots can also at times be really dull to look at as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least 

Overall while this wasn't the best episode of this show its also not the worst one either as there is a clear love for the characters and that world really seen all throughout this episode in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series "Make A Wish" And "Attack Of The Octobot" Review

The Marvel Animated Universe was a universe that was dead for many decades and yet now thanks to X-Men '97 being as a good as it was it's back in the public eye once again. With one of the characters that cameoed not once but twice on the show also really being one of the many characters that got given his own show in the nineties and it's also a show that I really haven't really talked about for really sometime now and so then join me as I review the episodes that technically introduce us to Madame Web with the episodes in question being called simply just "Make A Wish" And "Attack Of The Octobot" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when Spider-Man accidentally blows up a science building during a fight with Doctor Octopus he finds himself down on his luck and must get some advice from the most unlikely of sources. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in these episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty not that bad with the plot of both episodes doing a good job of showing us a more vulnerable side to Spider-Man as well as showing us just what the character means to those around him without it being side out loud and while the plot of "Make A Wish" is basically just Spider-Man's origin story but cut down it was still a fun plot to see play out in this with this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in these episodes well then in all honesty  in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty really good. With all of the shows cast turning in some really good performances in both of these episodes which really isn't all that surprising given who is starring in these episodes as alot of the cast in both of these episodes are a bunch of really good voice actors with even Christopher Daniel Barnes pretty much being the voice of Spider-Man and it's not hard to see why as he really does turn in a good performance in this episode with the acting in these episodes really being helped bu the fact that the script for both of these episodes being so good that all these episodes cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help the acting in these very episodes.

Doing the animation for these episodes is the legends and the greats that are currently over at TMS Entertainment. Now the interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty not that bad but that's also the problem as the animation in both of these episodes wasn't all that good either as alot of the animation just looks flat and rather uninteresting to look but while the 2D animation isn't that good it's aged alot better then the shows signature use of very early 3D CGI animation which has aged like milk as it just looks ugly and has dated horribly which is not the episodes fault as there wasn't the technology there to make good looking 3D CGI animation with the 2D animation not having an excuse for looking as bad as it was as X-Men: The Animated Series which came out around the same time has alot better animation then what we mostly got in both these episodes and this show as a whole.

These are episodes are technically the first appearence of Madame Web as while she does appear in the previous episode it's a silent cameo near the end of the episode. Where as in these two episodes she plays a part of the episodes with her being the one to send Spider-Man to Maria in the first place as a way to prepare him for something that will happen later on in the shows run which is a great use of the character as it shows us just how smart this character is as she knows everything about Spider-Man without seeing him and thankfully these episodes don't go into her backstory as that is something that could ruin the mystic of the character by giving away to much of how the character was before she got her powers where as now we the audience have the chance to make up our own backstory for the character and the chance to work out just what her backstory might be in the first place with this being helped by the fact that this episode really does give us a great use for the character as she only appears a vert small handful of times and that's really it which is a great way to us a character like this at it allows the episodes to still focus on Spider-man and yet at the exact same time introduce this new powerful character as well.

In what was a shocking move is the fact that this episode has a shockingly dark ending even for a nineties superhero animated series. As it's revealed at the end of "Attack Of The Octobot" that the kid helping to cheer Spider-Man is dieing of a terminal illness and that seeing Spider-Man was the one thing that she wanted to do before she died that right there is not only such a mature plot twist to have in your kids show but it's also one of the more darker plot twists that the Marvel Animated Universe would have as while this universe is known for having dark plot lines almost none of them involve a kid dieing and yet even tho the show rather rightfully doesn't show Maria dieing nor does it show us Spider-Man finding out that she's dieing it's still a dark plot twist to have and while it's something that would have been made all the more emotional if Spider-Man did find out the very next day that she died it works more by leaving her fate up in the air and it also makes it all the more shocking as well as for all we could know she could have died mere moments after Spider-Man drops her of at home where as that would be something that would have been taken away from us if we did find out that she ultimately died. 

The main villain of these episodes is Otto Octavius / Doctor Octopus who is a good villain but in this episode he's treated more of an afterthought. With us not even finding out why hes going after Spider-Man this time around all we know is is that he;s working with Wilson Fisk who is funding his research into creating the Octobot and yet we don't find out why he's targeting Spider-Man and while the main focus of the episodes might be Spider-Man and Maria you still need to give just as much attention to Doctor Octopus as while he is a great villain in any form of media by not giving him a reason for attacking Spider-Man this time around all your doing is making him come of as an afterthought like you suddenly realised that you need a villain in this episode superhero cartoon and so you just quickly wrote in the first one that you thought of and called it a day and that's enough for a character that is one of if not the most iconic Spider-Man villain as all that does is make the writing of the episode come across as being lazy when we know from the incredible twist at the end of the episode second episode that that really is far from being the case.

Now then these episodes has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly twenty minuets and twenty one seconds for Make A wish and twenty minuets and twenty one seconds for Attack Of The Octobot. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running for this series to have and to be fair these episodes really doe make great use of that running time even tho Make A Wish is mostly made up of scenes of telling us Spider-Man's origin story with the main plot of bot of the episodes not really getting alot of focus in that episode which does make sense as the plot really isn't that thin with episode two making betting use of that running time as it was all about moving the plot of the episodes forward in a way that made sense where as episode one was mostly all about setting up things that would be paid of in episode two that's not to say that episode one is an episode that you can skip tho as this is where we do get hinds to Maria's fate but I will admit that these episodes really do have some really good pacing to both of them tho.

So now then as this is na action show that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in these episodes well then in all honesty i in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in these very episodes was in all honesty not that bad. As this show in particualr wasn't really all tat known for having great looking action in it as it was more known for having good drama instead and to be fair both of these episodes do have some really good action in both of the episodes with us getting lots of chances to see Spider-Man do what he does best and do so in some really creative looking action scenes and it's during the action scenes in these episodes where the animation really does come alive as it's where we get alot of the best looking animation in both of these two episodes and it's also where we get to see just how fun this show really could be when it at it's best as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this is a solid introduction to the Madame Web character as even tho we don't get alot of screen time with her as a character just from these first two episodes it's quite clear as day that she's going to be treated alot better then what she was being treated like in the Madame Web movie in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all o the good ad as well as all of the bad things that in these very episodes in this very review and as such that really does mean that these very episodes really doe earn theme selves a combined grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series "Night Of The Lizard" Review

 

Marvel fans i've taken a look at many Marvel movies in the past and I will be looking at more in the future however the one thing that i've very rarely done is look at the companies previous animated projects. Which is a shame because alot of those shows especially the ones in the nineties served as my introduction to those characters with all that in mind here is my review of the very first episode of the 1994 Spider-Man animated series "Night Of The Lizard" enjoy comic book and animation fans and everyone inbetween.

The plot of the episode is there's a new creature in New York and Peter Parker and Eddie Brock are both tasked with getting pictures with the winner receiving a prize meanwhile Spider-Man has to find out who the creature is before it's to late. Plot wise I felt that the episode was pretty good with the story moving along at a nice pace but the story wasn't the series best in my opinion but it did a good job f setting up most of the main cast of characters.

Starring in the episode is Christopher Daniel Barnes as Peter Parker / Spider-Man and Edward Asner as J. Jonah Jameson. Also starring in the episode is , Linda Gary as Aunt May Parker , Rodney Saulsberry as Joseph Robertson , Liz Georges as Debra Whitman , Hank Azaria as Eddie Brock and Bud , Joseph Campanella as Curt Connors / Lizard , Giselle Loren as Margaret Connors , Toby Scott Ganger as Billy Connors and Ken Chandler as Sam.

As for what I thought about the acting in the episode it honestly wasn't that bad but at the same time I feel that it could have been alot better. While the acting was indeed good and was very passable for the episode that's all it was and that to me isn't a good thing since you should always be trying to put in a solid performance that could rival better shows and not turn in a performance that would earn you a paycheck.

Doing the animation for not only this episode but also the whole series is TMS Entertainment who have mainly worked on anime like Akira and episodes of Batman: the Animated Series among many others. The animation here I thought for the time that this show was made it was honestly really good i'm not going to say that it's amazing animation because it's really not but for a mid nineties animated show it's really good.

That said however there is something that we have to talk about and that's the fact that not only this episode but this entire series makes use of CGI. Which is just as bad as you'd think it would be don't get me wrong as a kid growing up when this show was I thought that the CGI looked really good but yikes it hasn't aged well at all the only good thing about the CGI is they don't use it often in this episode but when they do my god do you notice it.

Now this is something that I never noticed before now but to me the character of Debra Whitman (Liz Georges) looks so much like Betty Ross from the nineties Incredible Hulk animated series. I know that these shows were produced at least a year apart and so chances of the studio working on The Incredible Hulk getting there hands on the Debra character model are very unlikely but one cannot help but wonder why they chose to make Betty Ross character look so similar to Debra.

Now as you can no doubt work out by any of the above images this episode and the show aired on Fox Kids starting in 1994 and lasted until 1998 which I think makes it the longest running Marvel animated series of the nineties but I might be wrong. Either way way there is no way in hell you can tell that this show was made in the nineties apart from the dated CGI since the episode doesn't make any kind of reference to things from the nineties which oddly makes the episode feel timeless.

I have to say that I liked how they did Lizard in this episode which is they basically made him a Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde type of character. With Lizard not really being able to remember much of what his human half is doing and what Curt's memories are all of which make him a vastly interesting character since your now wondering if the character is acting like this because he's evil or is it because he feels threatened by Spider-Man basically breaking into his home.

Let's talk about the show's theme song because it really needs to be talked about just like any other superhero show that came out around this time the theme song is so freaking good. Which shouldn't come as a surprise since it was performed by the lead guitarist of Aerosmith Joe Perry it's just a shame that the lyrics don't quite match up the awesome electric guitar but the theme song is still so freaking good.

Now then since this is an action show that means that we have to talk about the action that's in this episode. Which yeah is exactly what you'd think it would be like for a nineties animated action show in that there's not much action when there it's just two people fighting but that to me works in the episodes favour since the focus of the episode isn't the action it's the story being told and the characters but I still would have liked to better action tho.

Overall this episode wasn't that bad since it does a good job of setting up the world and the characters in the show. That being said however I do feel that this episode could have been since there are alot of issues with the episode which i've covered in this review but at the same time I feel that those issues serve as part of both the show and the episodes charm and so to change them would cause both the episode and the show to loose something and so this episode gets a 7 out of 10 from me.

I wasn't expecting tho find any of these images to be high definition and so I wasn't shocked at all to see that there are very little HD images as such I can't really recommend you use the official Marvel Animated Universe fandom wiki page but if you want to use it then I say go for it.
