Wednesday: Woe Thyself Review

Everyone knows who The Addams Family are be from their various TV shows to there various movies or even the original comic strips amongst many other things. There is however one thing that cannot be denied and that is the fact that the Wednesday TV show helped to really make the characters popular again this time for a more modern audience and it something that did work as the show is currently filming it's third season and well I thought that i'd take a look back at one of the more out there episodes from the shows second season and so then join me as I review the episode that might as well be called "Freaky Friday Goth Girl Edition" with the episode in question being called simply just "Woe Thyself" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is when Wednesday and Enid switch bodies after Enid interrupts a meeting that Wednesday is having the ghost of a dead professor with te duo having a few hours to put things right before they both die. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. With the episodes plot for the most part being very much a filler plot with it really tying into the main plot towards the end the episode which to be frank isn't a bad thing as it does give us very much a calm before the storm episode. However tho this episode really could have been a bit more focused as plot wise the episode does seem to be all over the place as the episode has to juggle so many plots from the season which in this case does leave the main plot fighting for screen time and whilst yes this is very much a nothing plot that doesn't mean that it had to be left fighting for your attention as it should have been the main focus of the episode and not left feeling like an afterthought as when the episode does focus on the Wednesday and Enid plot that's when the episode gets to be more fun and that's exactly what an episode like this one needed to be it needed to be fun and yet for one reason or another the episode can't be that fun as when the episode does start to get more fun with its plot it cuts to another plot which is great for the seasons long story arc but it's not great for the episodes main plot with the plot of the episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Also starring in this episode is Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair , Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin , Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay , Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Ottinger , Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus , Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams , Owen Painter as Slurp , Billie Piper as Isadora Capri , Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Sheriff Ritchie Santiago , Victor Dorobantu as Thing , Noah B. Taylor as Bruno Yuson , Evie Templeton as Agnes DeMille , Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams , Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams , Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems , Dame Joanna Lumley as Hester Frump , Christopher Lloyd as Professor Orloff , Frances O'Connor as Francoise Galpin , Star Wars star Joonas Suotamo as Lurch , Heather Matarazzo as Judi Stonehearst and Lady Gaga as Rosaline Rotwood.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. The fact that we have good acting in this episode is something that really isn't all that surprising as this show does have good acting in all of it's episodes and the fact that it's managed to get an actual dame in Dame Joanna Lumley does speak to how good the acting is as she didn't have to do this show and yet she did it anyway with her turning in a good performance in this episode with the same thing being true for alot of this episodes actors as well as they all turn in a bunch of really good performances in this episode. With the best actor in the whole entire episode being Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair as both she and Jenna Ortega have a really tough job to do in this episode as they both have to play there regular characters but then they have to play each others characters whilst still making it apparent that it's there own characters and while Jenna does also pull this off quite easily Emma is clearly having the most fun with it as she makes the character of Wednesday still very much feel like Enid with her even doing an impression of the voice that Jenna uses for the character which was something that she didn't have to do and yet it's something that sells you on the fact that this is still Wednesday only no it's in Enid's body with her having alot of charm and charisma that really does shine through in this episode. With the acting that's in this episode really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so good that all this episodes actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Doing the CGI for this episode really is the legends and the really greats that are currently over at Folks VFX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. While the series isn't really known for it's high quality CGI as The Hyde in season one looks so bad here in this episode the effects do look decent with the makers of the episode hiding both The Hyde and Enid's wolf firm mostly in shadows which does do a good job of hiding the effects and making it look all the more better. Yet the episode gives Isaac a really long obviously fake tongue when he's licking the jar of Professor Orloff and while the effects used to bring Professor Orloff to live look really good the effect on the tongue looks a little bit to fake as while there is no way that they could have done practically there could have been a bit more time spend on it to make it look better and while yes The Hyde itself does still look pretty bad in this episode the fact that it is mostly hidden away in shadows does make it more of a better effect as it does show that the makers of this episode had learnt from there mistakes last season where they have the creature be seen in well lit areas which does make the effect itself look really bad but here by hiding it a bit more it does mean that they can get away with making it look a little bit bad which is something that can't be said for the long tongue effect with this being ashame as the effect of Professor Orloff does look really good and heck one could even say that it's the best effect of the season.

The best way to describe this episode is it's essentially The Addams Family version of Freaky Friday as both this episode and that film do share a very similar set up where two characters switch bodies and have to put things right before a certain time with them both learning something that they didn't know about the other in the process. In the case of this episode Enid learns that the reason why Wednesday has been shutting her out all season is due to the fact that she's foreseen Enid being killed and Wednesday is actively trying to stop that from that happening and Wednesday learns that Enid fears being an alpha due to the fact that she thinks it will make her be all alone again something which Wednesday vows to not let happen. While yes the thing that Wednesday learns is a very basic thing for the character to learn it is something that does work for the character as the character had been cold to Enid all season long at this point something Agnes did take delight in reminding Enid all about, heck this is something that does work for these kinds of episodes as it then gives the characters the chance to literally walk a mile in each others shows and while we the audience don't get to learn anything new about either character because of it the fact that the characters get to find out things that they might not have found out otherwise is something that does prove that this type of episode could work, however tho with that being said it is odd that a show featuring The Addams Family would do a body swap episode as quite literally none of the shows and movies had done anything like this before as it's something that doesn't really work in the world of The Addams Family and while it does kind of work here due to how they have it happen it is still an odd thing to see in anything that's related to The Addams Family.

This episode is the very definition of the calm before the storm episode as alot of this episode is very comedy focused and is very happy go lucky. While yes it does get more serious towards the end of the episode alot of the time it is just the characters trying to work out how to get out of this crazy situation and this is where the episode does shine as this show is usually very dark and vert bleak and while that is fitting for The Addams Family sometime you do want something that is a little bit more lighthearted whilst still getting all of the things that you'd come to expect from the show and this is something that this episode does do really well as we get both Wednesday and Enid getting into goofy situations whilst in each others bodies which is alot of fun to see as we get to see Wednesday as Enid breaking up with Enid's boyfriend because she knows that he's cheating on her but she can't do it in the way that Wednesday would she has to do it in the way that Enid would. The same thing is true with Enid as she has a few scenes with either Morticia or Morticia and the rest of The Addams Family with Enid being scared that she might be found out ad yet none of them suspect her for a second with Enid not being to able to tell anyone that she's not herself which in off itself does lead to some pretty funny moments during the dinner scene with Gomez punishing Pugsley by either putting him in an Iron Maiden or in the torture rack something which he happily accepts, this episode is filled to the brim with goofy moments like this and they oddly don't feel put of place in this kind of episode as this episode is meant to be a calm before the storm episode and therefor of course things are going to be alot more lighthearted and while given the fact that this episode six of an eight episode season and therefor the show should have been building more to the end of the season taking this little break away from the main plot of the season does work.

While this episode does mostly avoid the season long plot it does take the time to address this time as the episodes subplot. As we do get to see Tyler and his family go back to Willow Hill hospital so that Isaac can finish the experiment on his sister which we find out in Tyler's mother with those scenes being the only scenes in the entire episode where the season long plot gets addressed and that's great as we have had a few episodes in this season that put the season long plot as the main plot of the episode therefore it was great to see a more lighthearted plot take the main focus with it only tieing into the main plot of the season near the end of the episode when Agnes sneak off to Willow Hill with Tyler and his family with Wednesday and Enid having to come to her rescue and that's really it and that's all we needed to have for the main plot of the season. As it could have been pointless for the makers of this episode to include anything that would add to it this late in the game therefor having the season long plot take the backseat to a more goofy kind of plot is something that does work for the episode and while of course the episode would have worked just as well if the season long plot was the main focus as you could have had the bod swapping plot happen with any to character and it would would have worked out just the same having it happen with Enid and Wednesday does also make alot of sense but with this being said the episode would have been all the more better if the main plot with Tyler was the main focus point of the episode just due to where this episode falls in the seasons running order as if it was done much more earlier on in the season then having the more goofy plot take centre stage would have made sense but here at episode six of an eight episode season there did need to be more of a focus on the season long plot.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and nine minuets and sixteen seconds. Whilst this is pretty much the bogstandard running time for this show to have this episode really didn't need to be all that long as there was nothing in the episodes plot that demanded that it be this long as you very easily could have had this episode come in at well under one hour just by cutting out alot of the pointless stuff in the episode that add nothing to either the episodes main plot or the season long plot and yet the episode does throw so many things at you all of which are filler scenes that it makes you wonder why the makers of this episode gave this episode a longer running with the episode having more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time in the first place. Yet with the episode having this long running time it still doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as the episode doesn't take the time to fully develop its plot and whilst this is still a really bad thing for this kind of episode tho the plot didn't really need to be all that well developed as all you needed to know was how Enid and Wednesday switched bodies in the first place and how long they have to switch back and that's really it and both of those things are thing that episode explains to us any way yet it is still more clear that the makers of this episode gave more thought and effort into the pointless filler scenes then they did in the episodes plot development. The same thing it could be argued is true for the episodes characters development as while both Wednesday and Enid do grow as characters as they both find out things that they other has been keeping a secret from them and they both learn from that none of the episodes other character do grow as characters and wile it could be could be argued that Tyler doesn't really need to grow as a character but given the fact that he is on of the main characters of the episodes side plot he or any member of his family should have started to grow as characters but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. With this episode being alot more goofier with its setup then other episode it does make sense that there would be more of a focus on comedy then what there usually is as nine times out of ten this show focuses more on action and horror and while both of those are still present in the episode there is more of clearer lean towards comedy with alot of the main characters in the main plot of the episode getting a chance to be really funny be with Enid being really sarcastic as Wednesday or Wednesday herself being alot more fun and outgoing as Enid. With the best joke in the whole entire episode being the scene where Enid as Wednesday decides to get revenge for how Wednesday as written the character based in her in her book by dressing up in brightly coloured clothes and make up and going into the schools courtyard hugging and being friendly to every one whilst also dancing this was just a fun way to start of the episode as right away it lets you know that something is up with the character and yet they revisit the scene later on in the episode Enid then gets a reminder that Wednesday is quite literally allergic to color when she starts coming out in a rash which is just the cherry on top for that whole joke with the rest of the episodes jokes being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.  

Overall whilst there are more better plot focused episodes in this second season of the show just interms of having a plot that knows full well that it's goofy and having all of the main actors be in on it those really are things that do make this episode alot of fun to watch in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.

Little House On The Prairie 2026 TV Series: Independence SPOILER FILLED Review

Little House On The Prairie has manages to entertain generations of kids for decades as such it wasn't all that surprising when it was announced that there would be a new version of the book coming from Netflix. Well they have now dropped all eight episodes however this review will only be based off of the first episode and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the episode that if it was released on July 4th would have been very aptly named with the episode in question being called simply just "Independence" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is the Ingalls family leave there home , family and friends in the big wood behind them in search of a new life in the town of Independence. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. The episodes plot was one that whilst it was good it is also one that could have been done alot more better as the plot was really on thin side so much so that it was hard to tell just what the main plot of this episode was even meant to be in the first place. Yet when the episode does get a sort of plot with the family moving out of there old home that is where we see the potential of the series and that is where it very much feels like the original book as and yet the makers of this episode don't really focus on that part of the episode for very long when that is something that they had the time to do and whilst yes the plot of the original pilot film wasn't all that much better it was a damn sight better then the plot in this episode as the pot of that film did very much feel like it was ripping the pages of the book and putting them on screen where as here it does feel like that the makers of this show are trying to fix things that weren't broken when what they should have been doing is focusing on the plot elements that work as those are the things that the people are going to be remembering this episodes plot for and not all of the stuff later on in the episode with the plot of this episode also not really being really rather entertaining and as well as not really being really rather engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls , Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls and Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls. Also starring in this episode is Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls , Warren Christie as John Edwards , Jocko Sims as Dr. George Tann , Meegwun Fairbrother as William Mitchell , Alyssa Wapanatâhk as White Sun , Wren Zhawenim Gotts as Good Eagle , Barrett Doss as Emily Henderson , Mary Holland as Jemma James , Michael Hough as Eli James , Kowen Cadorath as Caleb , Ryan Robbins as Russell Kind , Cliff Sumter as Hahn and Thosh Collins as Louis.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. This episodes acting is kind of hard t judge as while it is really good it is also the first episode f a new show and will therefor only get better as the show continues but as it pertains to this episode tho the acting is about as good as you can expect from a low quality Netflix show as while all of the episodes actors are in deed trying there best this is a case where there best just isn't good enough with it being clear that the episodes director Sarah Adina Smith was the wrong person to direct this episode as she has no clue on how to get a good performance out of her actors. With the best actor in the whole entire episode being Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls as she does bring a certain charm to the role that does make her scenes all the more fun and sweet to watch with her and Luke Bracey having such good chemistry together that you do end up buying them as this married couple with this being something that is key to making the show as a whole work and heck she even does have a certain feistiness to her that does shine through in her performance in this episode. With the acting that's in this very episode not really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is just so bad as it gives none of this episodes actors anything to work with which is something that really does help to harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode. 

The characters in this episode are very much a mixed bag off affairs as while alot of them are done well others just aren't. As while the main family are handled about as well as could be expected as they are still the same characters only now they have a bit less charm to them as in the original film all of the family where likable people that you wanted to get know more about whereas here in this episode it does seem to the opposite that's true and as while the family members do have moments where they do show kindness and love to each to each other they mostly act cold and distant which is something that would make sense if this episode was filmed first but given that the whole point of this show is to show that family will always be there it is something that needed working on. However tho none of the episodes others characters get any kind of love given to them as at most alot of them just get two scenes to get across what there character is like which is just not enough for them to leave a lasting impact on us the audience as alot of the townsfolk do end up blending into together whereas with the family yes alot of them are just versions of the same character type your not going to confuse say Laura with Mary for example but with alot of the townsfolk it will be the opposite that's true as there is nothing about any of them that makes them stand out and that makes them feel rea which given the fact that the books were based off of the life of Laura herself is something that the makers of this episode really should have done as the books have worked for all of these decades for a reason and if the makers of this episode want this show to be a hit then they should have taken the time to make all of the characters feel like fully thought out characters.

SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unlike with the original pilot film that just adapted the third book this episode seems to be just taking certain things from that book whilst also adapting things from the other books as well. This is something that does make this episode feel like a mashup of all of the books with none of them really working like for example in the scene where Jack gets swept away in the original pilot film we had narration from Laura saying how he was her best friends and we saw Charles go looking for him right after if happened whereas here none of that happens and therefor when Jack does go missing and Laura is still upset about it it doesn't make sense as we hadn't been given the information on if Jack was her friend or not and therefor him hi coming back to her at the end of the episode doesn't have the same surprise like it did when it happend in the movie. There are small changes like this all through the episode that on paper don't mean much but when you put them together it does add up to something that needed to fixed and right away like for example in the scene where Caroline gets tired from overworking herself in the original film she doesn't injure herself she just gets to weak to carry on with Charles telling her to rest and that she did a good job this does show us that he does care about her so much so that he is willing to do the work himself whereas here in this episode she drops a log on her foot with Charles now being forced to get the Doctor to help her out this is something that might not seem like much but it now says that Caroline is overworking herself not for her family but because of the fact that she's worried that the wolves might attack them and it tells us that Charles doesn't care that much about her as he never tells her that she did a good job he just says that he has to get the doctor to look at her.

There are some things about this episode that do work like for example the town itself does look really good. Even tho we don't spend alot of time in it in this episode we do get a good enough look at it with the town itself looking a typical western town only given the fact that "Independence" is a partially new town everything is nice and clean with the only thing that could have made the own feel more better being if we got to spend more time in it in this episode but given the fact that this episode also had to set up the whole family as well as the plot of the show it does make sense that the episode didn't spend alot of time in the town in this episode as that would have taken attention from where it should have been in this episode that being the family themselves. Speaking of the family we do actually get alot of scenes with them that weren't in the original film like we get a scene with Mary getting a crush on a local boy which was a sweet scene to see and we do get a scene where the sister talk about the things that they miss about there old home with Mary saying that she left her friends behind and Laura saying that she misses the rest of her family which again was a nice scene as it does show show us that this move not only effected them in a positive way as thy do get to see more of the world now but that it also effected them in a negative way as they did have to leave behind people that they miss dearly which is something that does make you wonder if this version of Charles took that into consideration as it is something that the Charles in the original film would have done if there was a similar scene both of these are things that whilst yes they are small things but they also show us that the makers of this episode yes did know would help to make the episode better and while they don't make the episode perfect by any means they up making it look like the episode was more well thought out with the makers of this episode going out of there way it seems to have scenes like these be in the episode itself when they really didn't have to do it at all.

One of the things that was always going to tricky an was something that you could never get around was how they treated the native Indian characters. With them here not really having much of an impact on the episodes plot as they do just appear in a few scenes and that's it but but the episode does show Laura almost going out of her to befriend the girl of an Indian family with her even giving her her doll that she had found and that Caroline has repaired for her which whilst it does come of nothing in this episode it is somethin that could go on to effect the rest of the episodes of this show as the whole third book was based around the Indians wanting there land back and the lengths that they would go to to get it therefor by having the daughter of the main family befriend one of them early on does make you wonder how alot of the scenes later on in this first season would go. We do even get a a bit of a dark backstory with Caroline as she does reveal that she has seen war before at some point in her past with her not willing to face it again when she finds that certain Indians are planning an attack to take back there land which was somethin that was quite shocking and this is where the episode does get to be quite interesting as it's during those moments where you never really no what to expect and therefore the makers of this episode do have to come up with clever and inventive ways to keep us guessing what's going to happen next and with Caroline having this dark past with the Indians it again does raise the question of that will happen at certain points in the rest of the season as we do know that some Indians at first do attack the families home and burn down there barn and while they do befriend them in the end it doesn't change the fact that they did it in the first place with Caroline having this past with them it does make you wonder she is now going to react when these attacks do start happening as it could go either way with her and it would work either way.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly fifty two minuets and fifty four seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running time for this show and to be fair this episode really did need t have that amount of running time in order to fully set up it's plot and characters and while the episode does skip over large portions of the book and film it does feel like there is some kind of an effort to be true to the book as the episode doesn't try to say that it's better then the book that inspired it rather it uses it's running time to help to set up this world and make it feel more real and lived in with this being something that does help the episode with the episode having just about the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place. Yet even with this long amount of running time the episode still doesn't use its running time all that wisely as the episode doesn't take the time to fully develop it's plot which is something that could have been fine if this wasn't the first episode but given the fact that this is the first episode then there should have been scenes that do move either the episodes plot of the plot of this first season forward and make it feel more developed but the makers of this episode seemed to be more focused on making the Ingalls family seem really unlikable alot of the time that they are in giving us a well thought out plot. This is something that does also effect the characters character development as well which is something that is understandable as you could make the point that the character will get there development in later episodes which would be fine if this episode had set any of that up but it doesn't therefor any character development that they will get might not work as the foundations for the characters are rocky in the first place and yet if the makers of this episode had set up what there development will be by how the characters are attacking then it would work but the makers of this episode are more focused on making Laura look like a hunter alot of the time then they are in giving us it's characters character development but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho. 

So now then as this is a drama that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. The fact that this episode does gave some really good drama in it is somethin that isn't all that surprising due to the fact that the book themselves more then likely had some really good drama in it and while yes the drama in this episode doesn't work as well as it did in the original film it is something that does still work well enough that you do kind of forgive the episode for alot of it's past mistakes. With the best piece of drama in this episode actually not being that dramatic of a scene rather its the scene where Caroline tells Charles that she can't do any more work because she's pregnant which does work as these two actors are so likable as these characters with it bein somethin that does make you look back in the past scenes with her when she was doing something hard with a new eye as now we know that during the crossing scene that she might have been pregnant with this being something that does add some small replay value to the episode itself and whilst it is something that doesn't make the episode on the while all that great it is something that does leave you with hope for this family and that was something that the original film was great at giving you and it makes it all the more tragic when all that hope ends up lost in later episodes with the rest of the episodes drama being really good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall look to be fair the original film and the subsequent TV series will always be the better adaptation this episode does get this new series off to a flawed but still solid start and while yes the episode does have it's fair share of teething issues the same thing can also be said for alot of first episodes and is not something that's exclusive to this episode in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Devil May Cry Season 2 SPOILER FILLED Review

After what feels like years of waiting Netflix has finally dropped all eight episodes of one of the most underrated animated shows currently out. This is a show that to be frank i've been eagerly awaiting so much so that I did a tie in review for this whole new season and well then new season is finally here and well you just knew that I had to check out the very first chance that I got and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the season that features alot of really good rock songs in it with the show in question being called simply just "Devil May Cry" enjoy.

The plot of this season is sometime after the events of the first season Dante is thawed out and along with Lady and his brother Virgil have to stop a demon from resurrecting the ;iteral devil himself. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very season well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very season was in all honesty really good. The seasons plot is one that does more then uphold the already high bar set by that of the first season just due to the fact that's not a copy and paste of the first seasons plot with the plot of this season being one that is alot more darker and more mature then we got in the first season. This is something that does work to the seasons advantage as this show on the whole is meant be an adult show and therefore it does have permission to go deeper into the characters backstories then what a kids animated series could do for example and while there are times where it does feel like that this seasons plot is a bit all over the place it then does something that ties it all together in ways that actually make sense and with the season being a tight eight episodes long it does mean that all of the show episodes are about advancing the seasons plot forward with this being something that does make the plot of this season feel like a really strong and well thought out plot albeit one with a few minor issues here and there with the plot of this season also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this season is Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante and Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary Ann Arkham / Lady. Also starring in this season is Kue Lawrence as young Dante , Ian James Corlett as William Baines , Robbie Daymond as Vergil , Marcel Nahapetian as young Vergil , Graham McTavish as Arius Von Erenburg , Quinn Eakins as young Arius , Ray Chase as Mundus and Jester , Tony Todd as Beowulf , James C. Mathis III as Beowulf , Salli Saffioti as Chi , Tara Strong as Nell Goldstein , Jim Conroy as Stan Sullivan , Andrew Morgado as Argosax , Rick D. Wasserman as Trismagia , Keith David as Lucan and Paris Johnson as Mattie.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very season well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very season was in all honesty really good. The fact that this season has as good acting as it has is something that is not really all that surprising as all you need do is look at how is in this season to see that the quality of acting is going to be really high , much like with the previous season where we had two actors playing Baines we are sadly in that same situation again this season with both Tony Todd and James C. Mathis III playing Beowulf and sadly its for the exact same reason however unlike with Baines where you really couldn't tell who was playing the character in what episode here you can sort of tell just because of the fact that Tony Todd had such a distinctive voice with James's acting still being really good. With the best actor in this season being Scout Taylor-Compton as while she was good in the previous season here in these eight episodes its like she really did up her game as an actor and this is something that does make alot of sense as she is reprising the role and therefor she would of course have more knowledge on how best to perform this character but to compare her performance this to that of what she did with the same character in the last season its night and day. With the acting in this season really being helped by the fact that this seasons scripts where just so good that all this seasons actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very season.

Doing the animation for this season is the legends and the greats that really are currently over at Studio Mir. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very season well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very season was in all honesty really good. Much like with the seasons acting the fact that we got good animation all throughout this season is something that's not really all that surprising due to the fact that the animation in the last season was also really good. With the things that made the animation in this season stand out being the fat that instead of just using hand drawn animation which was they mostly used in the first season here they blend it with 3D CGI animation as well with alot of the demons being done in this method. The other thing that does make this season animation stand out being the fact that unlike the first season where we were mainly stuck on earth which did lead to some really boring looking backgrounds here since we spend alot of time on both earth and the demon world it does mean that we get a vast majority of backgrounds that all look different from each other with it being made clear as day that the makers of this show took great care into giving us both worlds there own unique look to them as the human world mainly has very muted colors with there being lots of brown being used with the inside of the main villains base being mostly white and yet when we get to the demon world as to expected its all mainly red with this being something that does help to distinguish the two worlds from one another.

There is no way to do a full on review of this season and not talk about Lady as she is pretty much the only character from the first season that gets some major love in this one. As we see how she was deeply effected by not only the events of the first season but also the first season finale as well as she does believe that she is terrible person due to the choices that she's made in that first season with being Dante himself being the one to basically tell her that she had to do what she thought was right at the time and given the fact that she had just seen her while team wiped out in the blink of an eye she had to make a call that whilst it didn't work out well for anyone as it ended with the human race going to war with demons and Dante being put on ice it was still a call that did lead to Dante's brother making himself known again. While Dante and Virgil were very much the focus of the teaser at the end of the first season here it is very much Lady and this is something that does feel like a copy and paste of the first season as it's revealed in the tease for the next season that Lady's dad is not only alive and well but that he's also someone that we've been seeing all throughout the season in the demon world as it's revealed that her father transformed himself into Jester. This is something that does feel like a copy and paste from the end of the first season where it was revealed that Virgil is alive and well and while it worked there it was due to the fact that it was something that was genuinely surprising where as here it doesn't work quite as well due to the fact we've just seen that tease but done in a much better way with the only thing that makes it kind of work here is the fact that we've seen this character alot this season we just never knew just how big of a character that he is for one of the shows main characters and while the tease could have been done better it is still something that does still work in its own right.

Much like with the first season this season also has a killer soundtrack with there being remixed songs of both "Afterlife" ad "My Immortal" both from Evanescence. With there being songs by Papa Roach (Getting Away With Murder) , Casey Edwards &Amira Elfeky (Bazooka) , Avril Lavigne (Sk8ter Boi) Bryce Vine (Street Punks On A Freight Train) Capcom (Dante's Office) , Gunship (The Gates Of Disorder , Power Glove Featuring Gunship (Shall Never Surrener) and Drowning Pool (Bodies) this is just a good song list. Whilst they do ditch Rollin by Limb Bizkit for the shows opening theme and instead replace it with a more generic rock track by the band Powerglove with the theme song being called "Jackpot" nothing is ever going to top just how hyped you would get hearing Rollin every time an the intro for the season played. To give this season its flowers it does know how to use it's music with alot of the songs mentioned being played over fight scenes which is just such a good way to get you hyped for the fight scene but then occasionally they would have a  more emotional song play over a more sad scene and again it is something that does work really well although to be fair alot of the time it does feel like that this shows creator and co-producer Adi Shankar was just using songs that he likes rather then songs that would benefit the show on the whole as while alot of these songs do help to fit in with the show and do give it a more frantic energy alot more of the time they do feel out place and they take you out of the scene because of the fact that alot of them are from well known bands and that is something that could be a bit distracting.

Villain wise this season we do technically have two different villains as we have both Arius and Mundus with Argosax not really being a villain as he only appears in the final two episodes. Arius and Mundus tho are who we spend alot more time with with both of them wanting to reign over the demon world with the only thing that sets them apart being the fact that Arius also wants to rule the human world and is more then willing to use both Dante and Virgil to get what he wants as we see him trying to manipulate Dante in a later episode of the season as Dante knows full well that in his human form he can't beat him let alone land a single hit on him yet he still try to do something to do some damage to him whereas with Virgil because of the fact that he was manipulated by Mundus when he was young he is more easily manipulated by Arius although Virgil does know that Arius is playing him and does help to form a plan to get him and Mundus to fight each other in the demon world. Out of the two villains in this season the more effective one is easily Arius due to the fact that we do see him physically over power all of our heroes at one point or another this season and that's without the use of Argosax and yet when Argosax does come into play then he's basically Godzilla in that he's unbeatable and that s something that does force our heroes to better themselves and to think out side of the box whereas with Mundus due to the fact that the season does spend alot of time on earth we don't get to see just how effective that he is a villain as we know from the final fight of the season that he is a physically strong character but what we don't know is if Dante and Virgil could beat him in a fight and to be fair to this show we don't need to know that just yet as the main purpose of this season was to get Argosax and Arius to fight and that's it.

Now then this season / had an exact grand total running time of no longer then forty minuets with the longest episode being episode one which has a grand total running time of thirty nine minuets and twenty nine seconds and the shortest episode this season was episode three which was thirty minuets and fifty one seconds. The very fact that the makers of this show have episodes that are alot closer to forty minuets then what they were last season is something that does tell you that they took the story this season very seriously as by giving all of the episodes these more longer running times it does allow not only each episodes plot but also the plot of the season to breathe alot more with the season having more then plot to cover that amount of running time in the first place. However tho this season really doesn't use its running time all that wisely as while the episodes are indeed alot longer this season they don't really take the time to fully develop the seasons plot with this being something that could have been fixed if they did two things the first of which being if they stopped playing a song every few minuets as that makes it the show look like an advertisement for the soundtrack and the second of which being if they had two or three more episodes to the episode count as that would then allow for there be scenes where the plot does get alot more development. The show does however take great strides in giving its characters some character development as we do see Lady and Dante first form a bond as friends something which they were close to being by the end of the first season and then to possible love interests and with Virgil we see him go from someone who believes that only people with power can be strong to someone who has just had enough with people controlling him and heck even Baines gets some character development as learns just how evil he has truly been but I really will admit that this season really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is aa action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very season well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in thus very season was in all honesty really good. This is something that was to expected as anything that has Adi Shankar involved in it be it animated or live action does have some really cool action in it and the same thing is true for this season as all of this seasons action scenes are filled to the brim with really cool moments be it Dante shooting a rocket launcher and then riding the rocket down the ground just to get closer to an opponent or or Lady killing a bunch of demons bottom line if you love action and you love action with cool moments in them then this season has you covered. With the best action scene in the whole entire episode actually being all the way back in episode one of the season as when Virgil first arrives on earth he finds himself surrounded by Arius taskforce and yet without hesitation he whips his sword out and starts cutting of there heads and limbs all while "Bodies" by Drowning Pool plays this is such cool action scene as while we did have other action scenes in that episode alot of them were either two long or two short for us to fully take them in where as here with this action scene it lasts the right amount of time with this also giving us a good look at just what Virgil can do in an action scene and while the lyrics to the song playing might be bit on the nose for what's happening n screen one can't help but get excited because of how good of a song that it is in the first place with the reason of seasons action scenes being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall if you haven't watched this new season of the show yet then what are you waiting for go ahead and do exactly that there's a reason why this new season has been getting rave reviews from people online and all of that praise is totally justified as this new season is just that good in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in his very season in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very season really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.

Devil May Cry: "A River Of Blood And Fire" Review

For some odd reason Netflix doesn't like to tell you when the new season of a hit animated show is coming out. As we are just a few short days away from the release of Devil May Cry season 2 and yet there's been next to nothing to tell you about this new season coming out well as I liked the first season and will for sure be checking out season 2 I thought that i'd take a look back at the first season finale as a way to get us all excited for the new season and so then join me as I review the episode that features Green Day's "American Idiot" with the episode in question being called simply just "A River Of Blood And Fire" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is Dante and Lady have to defeat fully mutated White Rabbit and stop him from taking over the earth before its far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. This episodes plot is one that whilst it could be seen as being a bit thin as when you boil it down to it's core elements there's not that much going on plot wise as the episode is indeed just one long fight scenes and while this is something that does leave the plot of the episode feeling more like an afterthought in the grand scheme of things. It is also something that does make sense as this episode was the first seasons finale episode and therefor it didn't need to be rich with plot to make it work as this is quite literally the third act of a story and therefor it needed to be more action packed and less story focused and while yes it would have worked just as well if the episode did have more of a focus on it's story as at the end of the day that's what people are going to remember about the show it's also not really something that was needed to make this episode be as good as it is and not every single episode of every single show animated or not needs to be plot focused as sometimes being a dumb action show is more then enough and that is something that was very much the case with this episode as it is just a dumb action show and this episode did fully understand that with the plot of this episode also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Hopper and A Soldier , Robbie Daymond as Vergil , Kari Wahlgren as Eva , Donovan Patton as Bloodstryke and A Demon , Roger L. Jackson as An Officer and An Interrogator , Matthew Waterson as The Large Soldier , Jason Marnocha as A Civilian and A Predator Demon and Erica Lindbeck as A Mother , A Baby and A Demon Kid.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. If you want a good idea of just how good that this episodes acting is all you need do is just look at who is in the episode as the episode is filled to the brim not only with anime voice acting legends but with voice acting legends in general with them them all turning in some really good performances in this episode and even tho both Kevin Conroy and Ian James Corlett are playing the same character with Corlett filling for Conroy in this episode you really can't tell the difference as the character of Baines does sound the exact same with both actors nailing there performances as the character with even Ian James Corlett now voicing the character in the rest of the show moving forward. With the best actor in this episode being Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante as he not only does give us some really funny lines in this episode he also knows when to stop being funny and to amp up the tension with the character and just go all out nuts with him which is something that he wouldn't have been able to do on Power Rangers as his character on that show wouldn't have allowed him to do it but here in this show he can go as nus as he wants do and as over the top as he wants to with this being something that you also see him do in several of his other anime projects as well and it works in this episode because of the fact that Dante is an over the top kind of character, with the acting that's in this very episode not really being helped by the fact that this episodes script is so bad as it gives none of this episodes actors alot to work with interms of what it is that there actual characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does help to lower the overall quality of the acting that's in this very episode.

Much like with this films acting the fact that this episode or even the show on the whole has good animation isn't all that surprising given the fact that Studio Mir has worked on alot of really good shows in the past and has always out in alot of really good animation in everything that they do. This show and this episode does take a huge amount of inspiration from anime with not only the character designs but also the characters movements in the action scenes and it is something that does make you wonder if this is an anime or not as even the show is firmly an American production you wouldn't know it just by looking at images from the show and yet at the same time this episodes animation does benefit from that as it does allow the characters to have these more over the top movements which in turn does help to make the episodes action scenes really come alive and feel like something that you would see in the Devil May Cry games. There is one thing that does let the animation in this episode down tho and that's the fact that the backgrounds in the human world aren't that inspired with the episode mainly just using a stereotypical city background and fair enough there's not much that you can do with a city background to make it interesting and yet when we briefly visit the demon world the backgrounds there don't look that much better with it feeling like the makers of this show put more effort into the episodes character designs and a lot less effort was put into the episodes backgrounds. 

All throughout this first season of the show we are told that Dante's brother is dead with it being revealed at the very end of this episode that not only is he alive and well but he is also coming after Dante. This is a good way to set up the main character for the next season as this is a character that does deserve to have this amount of build up given just how big of a threat that he has the potential to be and having him be at the very end of this first season as a way to get people to want to watch the next season as now it leaves us the audience wanting more and that is a great way to introduce the character and with him being the main villain of season two or at least going to be one of the villains of season two then having him be this stinger of a character does make alot of sense. While we don't understandably get to spend alot of time with the character the very brief glimpse that we get of the character does tell us that he is a villain that's not to be messed with whereas with The White Rabbit you got the feeling that he very much like the first main villain character of a video game in that he was never going to be that much of a threat and is someone that while it does cause Dante some trouble when you look back at it in two or three more seasons time he will seem like he wasn't that much of a threat and while that's great for The White Rabbit. Yet for a character like Virgil he will need to be someone who can test Dante in every way possible as he already has the mental advantage over the character due to the fact that he's his brother but what we don't know is if he's physically stronger then him and that is something that could cause Dante to be a better character as now he would be truly tested as a hero.

As was mentioned at the start of this review this episode features a moment that has "American Idiot" by Green Day playing over it. This was something that was shocking as while the other episodes had rock songs in them heck the theme song for this show is "Rollin" by Limb Bizkit it was still weird hearing a cut down version of "American Idiot" playing over a montage where America decides to invade the demon world and capture alot of innocent demons as that song is all about pointing how dumb alot of things in America can be but it's done in a more comedic type of way and yet the scene it's played over is this deadly serious scene which only serves to make the song even more funnier as it's an upbeat and up tempo song with this being something that the shows creator Adi Shankar had to know as he's into rock music. To be fair tho having that song play over that sequence doesn't hurt the sequence as it makes it alot more fun to watch which might be the point as it's meant to be this really disturbing scene where the humans essentially become bad guy by attacking demons who have done nothing to them and yet there playing this really upbeat song that does make you want to sing along to it and heck one of the best things that this show does do is have these really cool songs play over key parts of an episode which is something that is bound to make people who aren't that much into rock music want to listen to more of it as while we get a good original song in episode by the band "Evanescence" and while this episode doesn't have any original songs in it the fact that they do manage to find a good and fun use for the truly iconic "American Idiot" is something that does tell you that the makers of this show know how to use there licensed music as it would have been very easy to have that song play over an action scene and call it a day but the fact that they don't does show that the makers of this show are willing to find to new ways to have these licensed songs playing in an episode of the show.

This episode is basically one long fight scene which is something that does make it hard to judge The White Rabbit as a villain. Due to the fact that he doesn't get the chance to talk alot of the time in this episode which is fair enough as we would have had all of the other episodes to get across just what he's like as a character but in all farness to this episode we do still find out what he's main plan is as he does want to take over the world for no good reason and while him wanting to take over the world is typical plan for any villain to have the fact that he is a demon is something that does make it feel unique again as he could very realistically take over the world on his own and the fact that he does manage to briefly merge the human world with the demon world is more then enough to make this character seem like a better threat. While the fact that he does mutate himself be taking a lot of demon blood is something that does feel like a boring thing for the character to do as the character was defeated at the end of the last episode the fact that he did come back in this episode does show you that he is truly insane and that it will take alot more then a good beating for him to get put down and the fact that he does allow himself to get mutated does make him more like this unstoppable beast as now Dante and Lady are truly struggling to even land a hit on him and it is something that does make him feel like more of a threat. However it would been better if the episode did devote more time to his character and give him more of a chance to show case why he is this truly threatening as while the other episodes would have done exactly that in this episode the character does feel more like an afterthought to the episodes action whereas if the episode did devote more time to him as a character then it would make his downfall and defeat all the more satisfying.

Now then this episode has / had an exactly grand total running time of exactly thirty two minuets and fifteen seconds. Which to be fair to this episode is pretty much the bogstandard running time for this show as alot of the episodes either have or have very similar running times to this episode and to be to the episode it really does need this amount of running time as it does have alot of plot to wrap up from the first season and still set up a potential main villain for the second season and it can't do all of that and still tell a good story on it's own and while it's debatable on if this episodes plot is any good what isn't debatable is the fact that this episode could have used a longer running time just to make the story even more stronger. With the plot of this episode having more the enough running time to cover that amount of running time in the first place and yet even so this episode doesn't really use its running time all that wisely as the episode doesn't take the time to fully develop its plot which OK fair enough the episode doesn't really have to do that as the episode had all of the other episodes to give its plot that development and therefor this episode doesn't need to have that plot development but at the same time given how thinly drawn out that this episodes plot is due to the fact that it is essentially just one long fight scene then there should have been some time given to give the episodes plot some small amount of plot development even if it's just something small it still would have been something. This is something that does kind of effect the episodes character development as well as none of the episodes characters get anything in the way of character development which in all fairness they didn't really need but at the same time it would have been all the more better if the episode did take the time to give the characters some small amount of character development but I really will admit that this episode really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action show that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty really good. This episodes action is where the episodes does well and truly shine it's brightest as the episode is essentially one long action but whereas in something like Mad Max: Fury Road where that film would take small breaks to go more into the story and get you more invested with its characters this episode really doesn't need to do any of that due to the fact that it is a TV show and can therefor just go insane with it's action something which the episode does take great delight in doing and in doing so does give us alot of really fun and downright cool action scenes. With the best action scene in the whole entire episode being the opening roof top fight where Dante and Mary as well as a group of soldiers have to take on a fully mutated White Rabbit with him just lying the floor with them as White Rabbit rips of limbs and cuts open several of the soldiers with his blade and blows up several of there helicopters all the while both they and Dante and Mary are trying to kill him by shooting at him and yet all there bullets do is just bounce off of him. This is just such a freaking cool way to start of the episode as it lets you know right away that this episode is going to be very action packed and that is exactly what it is it's an action packed with the action never really letting up and getting more and more violent the longer that it goes on as the characters are forced to think outside of the box to even land a hit on The White Rabbit with the rest of the episodes action being just as good in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.    

Overall we are just a few short days away from the release of this shows second season and if this episode was anything to go by then we are in for one hell of a ride as this episode just gives you everything that you want to see in a Devil May Cry animated episode in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and a such that really does mean that this very episode really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.
