Dc Super Hero Girls "#SweetJustice" Review

DC fans the day has finally come i've been waiting so long to watch the first few episodes of the the DC Super Hero Girls TV show. To tide me over until the series officially premiered i've been watching all of the shorts which while fun are never going to top the full thing and well on Friday the show officially premiered with a four part special which i'm not going to be reviewing for you all and you can also count this as my first impressions for the series as whole so here is my review of Dc Super Hero Girls "#SweetJustice",

The plot of the episode is Barbara Gordon has just moved from Gotham to Metropolis and on her first day makes friends with five other girls  Diana Prince , Kara Danvers , Zatanna Zatara , Jessica Cruz and Karen Beecher they must learn to not only be friends but also work as a team in order to defeat someone who is taking over Metropolis. In terms of first episodes this is pretty basic it's the kind of first episode you'd expect from a new show but I think that this works to the specials advantage because no one knew what to expect going into it.

Starring in the special is Grey Griffin as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman , Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl and Harley Quinn , Nicole Sullivan as Kara Danvers/Supergirl , Kari Wahlgren as Zatanna "Zee" Zatara/Zatanna , Myrna Velasco as Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern , Kimberly Brooks as Karen Beecher/Bumblebee , Cassandra Lee Morris as Spoiler Alert , Will Friedle as Lex Luthor. Now i'm a fan of the original web series so I have to wonder why didn't they just bring over the voice cast from that show because to me that makes alot of sense and if you follow the show you'll notice that alot of actors do reprise there roles in this special.

As for what I thought about the acting does it even need to be said because alot of these actors are legends so of course for the most part it'll be great. All of the actors that you expect to deliver a great performance really do deliver and I honestly had no idea that Will Friedle was even in this series and I can guarantee now that you know he's in the show you'll either just hear his character from batman Beyond or Ron Stoppable because that was me when I found out the original Shego was playing Supergirl.

Now since I do plan on reviewing the show at some point i'm not going to list who's done the animation just because i'd be repeating myself when it came to the series review. I will say tho that when the designs for the show were first revealed I wasn't the biggest of fan of them but now after seeing the designs in action threw not only this special but also the shorts I do like them but I still prefer the designs from the web show.

As for the actual animation I have no idea what the budget is for this show but it's money well spent in my opinion because my god is the animation in this special truly something to behold. Every movement leaps of the screen with the kind of energy that you'd expect in a show from  Lauren Faust and heck half of the jokes in this special are made funny because of how well the facial expressions are.

As I mentioned earlier in this review the show and this special are based of the web series also called Dc Super Hero Girls and so you'd expect certain things to carry over. Get ready to be let down alot on that front because while the show does take place in a high school it's not super hero high it's Metropolis High and all of the character act very differently from there web series counterparts so it would be best to view this show as something that's set somewhere else in the DC Multi-verse.

Now my big issue with the web series is that even the villains are acting like superheroes and so far just by going of this special that doesn't look like it's going to be the case in this series. That for me is a good thing because it's how those characters would act in those situations of course tho I can't say if that's going to always be the case but there's once scene that hints at that and even tho it's a scene that doesn't effect the plot of the special to me it says the characters that are usually villains act like actual villains.

This review isn't that long because of the fact that this special is only like forty five minuets long so it's just the first four episodes edited together. To be honest im ok with Cartoon Network airing premier episodes as these hour long episodes since it's a great way to tell these epic stories and to get across who each character is and what there like in a more natural way which is something that you wouldn't be able to do if it was just eleven minuets long since everything would need to be rushed.

I touched on this before but this special is actually really funny there's a lot of great jokes and alot of what makes them funny comes down to the great facial expressions. I've honestly lost count at how many times I laughed during this special and that for me is a very rare thing to do and now that I think about it the character that actually got the most laughs out of me was Barbara herself and that's due to I think just how much energy she has.

In terms of the actual action seen in this special there's alot more of it then what I thought there would be and that's not to say that I wasn't expecting there to be any action scenes it's just there was alot more then what I thought there was going to be. To me that's a good thing because it was something that caught me of guard and the action that we do say if really good for a kids show you get to see all of the main girls use there powers in all of the fights so there for you get to see why they should be on that team.

Overall this wasn't a bad premier it sets up something which I hope they follow up on as the series progresses and if your excited to watch the series from next week they'll be airing new episodes. This is by no means a perfect set of episodes but it's alot better then what I thought it was going to be so it gets a 7 out of 10 from me.

DC Superhero Girls Web Series Review

Comics fans their are alot of stuff aimed at boys but there really isn't anything aimed at girls well in 2015 that all changed when DC Comics announced DC Superhero Girls which is a line of products aimed at girls and one of the things that launched with this line was a still on going web show which i'm going to review for you all right now.

The premise of the show is well known DC characters both male and female attend Superhero High a school designed to train young superheroes. Yeah this show has no real plot to speak of and what happens in one episode won't effect the next episode unless it's a multi-part episode which was rare for the first three seasons but for some reason the fourth season is full to the brim with them.

The series has a pretty awesome voice cast and since the cast list is so huge i'm not going to name every single actor so we have Grey Griffin as Wonder Woman , Giganta , Silver St. Cloud , Korugarian and Platinum , Anais Fairweather as Supergirl , Mae Whitman as Barbara Gordon / Batgirl and Speed Queen , Tara Strong as Harley Quinn , Poison Ivy and Raven and Hynden Walch as Starfire and Blackfire.

As I said before the cast list for this series is freaking huge and alot of them are reprising roles from other shows but tho for a web series I thought that the acting wasn't that bad which given the talent mentioned shouldn't really come as a surprise but like I said this is a web show and the acting isn't always great in those.

This web series has been a huge hit with other 300,000 subscribers on Youtube and goodness knows how many people who go on the website but tho with the brand being a hit it's also spawned several direct to DVD films and has an upcoming TV series coming up on Cartoon Network.

The animation for the series is of course done by Warner Bros Animation and lets just say that I hope the animation in the TV series is better because if not this show is going to get a lot of hate from people because the animation isn't exactly what one would call good in this web series don't get me wrong it's fine for a three minuet short but it can be pretty bad.

Speaking of bad half of the faculty and some of the students of Superhero High are Super villains which to me makes no sense at all Harley in this show isn't a villain she's a hero and the same goes for Poison Ivy and Killer Frost among others and all of these characters aren't heroes their freaking villains and the only character who acts like a villain is Cheetah.

Like I said before this is a show for little girls so it's not shocking to see that the main cast of characters are all women but what is shocking is that for some unknown reason Wonder Woman is a student at the school despite the fact she's older then everyone there combined and the fact it would have made more sense for her to be the principal of the school rather then Amanda Waller.

Since this is a kids show that means that there has to be a lesson learned during almost every episode and the lessons are about as generic as you can get like for example having fun with your friends is the most important thing yeah if you've seen any episode of any kids show ever you know what kinds of lessons will be learnt but tho with all of that said they do a good job of working these lessons into the stories.

The show does have a surprising amount of action in it and i'm shocked by that because each episode is only around five minuets in length but tho the action is very generic and it does become boring after a while I shouldn't be bored by an action scene I should be on the edge of my seat but here i'm almost falling asleep.

I will give the show this it does have a pretty catchy theme song and that song for me is the best part of the series if a show has a dull opening I usually skip it unless there's some easter eggs to be found but here I watch it just for the song that's how good it is.

Overall this is a pretty good way to get young girls into comics but at the same time it's not also giving us the true version of most of it's characters I just hope that Lauren Faust can do a better job with the TV series the web series gets a 5 out of 10 from me.

DC Super Hero Girls Web Series Review

So then DC fans I really havn't talked about this show at all outside of the movies but I figured since the show is in it's fourth season and the TV series is due to premier in a few months it would make sense to do it now so here is my review of DC Superhero Girls.

The show basically follows the heroes and some villains in the DC world as they train at Super Hero High School. Each episode is roughly around three to five minuets long so you don't get alot of story driven episodes but since this is aimed at little kids I can forgive them for that but at the same time I do wish the episodes were a little longer.

The voice cast is full of DC voice veterans and there's a lot of them so i won't name every single cast member but in the cast we have Tara Strong , Grey Griffin , Hynden Walch , Greg Cipes , Josh Keaton and John DiMaggio. Like I said there's a lot of people in this show but out of the people i've mentioned I honestly cannot pick out just one standout performer since they are all good in the show and I hope that they are all brought over to the main TV series.

Now as you might have guessed by now the show does feature some changes to the characters designs and in truth I can see people especially older fans of these characters possibly not liking how these characters look but for a show that's aimed at little kids I think that designs work well and you can clearly tell which character is which.

Even tho this is a web show the animation is handled by Warner Bros. Animation but even with a big name like Warner Bros. backing it the animation still feels cheap and like it was done on a budget we do get some fairly nice looking CGI but that's really it I hope that for the series the animation gets a bit of an upgrade.

This series really doesn't do action scenes in it's episodes instead choosing to save them for when they do a movie or TV special. Instead the web series focuses more on the lessons that the hero and ultimately the viewer learns and for me while I can see little kids getting something out of it I can't really see any older fans who are checking the show out getting anything from it but i get it it's not meant for older fans but if you have the DC name you have to expect older fans to come and watch it.

Like i've said several times during this review this show is aimed at little kids well to be more specific it's aimed at little girls but that's not say that little boys can't enjoy it and i'm ok with that since it goes give little girls someone in the DC world someone to look up to and it helps prove that superheroes aren't just for guys.

Overall if you have little kids or little nieces or nephews then there's no harm in showing them this cartoon and since this is something made for little kids there will not a rating since i cannot bring myself to rate it.
