Krypton TV Series "Pilot" Review

 

Superman as a character has been the focus of a lot of live action TV shows with one still airing as we speak. However there hasn't been a live action TV show that's based upon Superman's home world of Krypton well then that all changed in the year of 2018 when the first episode of a new TV show aired and so then join me as I review the first episode of the show that explores Superman's home world with the show being called Krypton and the episode itself being called simply just "Pilot" enjoy.

The plot of this episode is in all honesty rather hard to describe since there's not really a plot to speak of what so ever. Which would be a huge red flag for me personally but given that this is only the pilot episode it makes sense that there isn't much of a plot in this episode since this episode is alot more focused on setting up the world and it's characters but it still would have been nice to see some sort of a plot in this episode tho in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this episode is Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El , Georgina Campbell as Lyta-Zod and Shaun Sipos as Adam Strange. Also starring in this episode is Elliot Cowan as Daron-Vex , Ann Ogbomo as Jayna-Zod , Aaron Pierre as Dev-Em , Rasmus Hardiker as Kem , Wallis Day as Nyssa-Vex , Blake Ritson as Brainiac/ The Voice Of Rao , Ian McElhinney as Val-El , Paula Malcomson as Charys-El and Rupert Graves as Ter-El.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in his very episode was in all honesty OK at best. This is because this episodes script gives this episodes cast nothing to work with and so they can only do so much to make this episodes script work well enough for them in their favour in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Doing the CGI for this episode and I assume the rest of the series is BUF , DNegTV and the legends and the greats that are currently over at Rodeo FX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad espically for something that was created in a SYFY Channel budget in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

This episode really does shove Superman in your face which is understandable for this show however this episode doesn't go that long without brining him up. Which is a bit much and it is something that does get a little annoying and it is something that takes away from the main characters since it doesn't allow us to get to know these characters since all their doing is shoving Superman down our throats in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

I have to admit that the idea of someone destroying various planets just to make sure that Superman isn't even born is a good idea. However at the exact same time tho this episode really doesn't do all that much in setting up that idea other then just straight up saying that's what there going to be doing and that's such a shame because there's so much that you could do with this idea if it's something that's properly explored in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

I do like the idea of exploring the planets politics since that is something that we genuinely haven't seen in a live action adaptation of Superman. However instead of going the Game Of Thrones route this show plays it safe which isn't that interesting since it makes those scenes all the more boring and it makes the world feel alot more smaller then what it actually is and I get not going that much into the politics of this world in the first episode but when your whole basic premise is built around showing us what life was like on this planet before it blows and then not delivering on that premise in a satisfactory way then you have a huge problem on your hands in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Now then this episode has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly forty three minuets and six seconds. Which for an episode like this one is such a short amount of time since this episode really should have been a feature length episode which then would have allowed for the show and for the episodes storyline to be fully developed and it would have allowed for the shows characters to comes as alot more three dimensional but as it is alot of scenes get rushed because of the fact that they have to hit the next plot point and that's not a good thing at all in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

So now then since there is some action in this episode that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode and well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very episode was in all honesty not that bad. Which granted isn't really saying all that much since we don't get alot of action in this episode but what little action that we did get was really good in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this was a decent first episode to this show since it did a somewhat decent job of setting up this shows main storyline however it forgot to have an actual story in this first episode which made this episode feel boring and unneeded at times in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very episode in this very review and as such that means that this very episode erns itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

Krypton Season 1 Review

Superman fans the first season of it's second prequel Krypton has finished airing and a second season is confirmed for next year and since i've got nothing to do today I thought i'd give you my review of the entire first season so here we go.

So then the plot of the first season is Brainiac is coming to Krypton and it's up to Seg-El and friends to stop him. This show is set 200 years before Superman incase you didn't know by the word prequel but I will say that the story is pretty well told and it does wrap up really well as far as I can work out there's going to be a new story every season and I think that might work for this show but time will tell.

The show stars Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El , Georgina Campbell as Lyta-Zod , Shaun Sipos as Adam Strange , Rasmus Hardiker as Kem , Wallis Day as Nyssa-Vex , Blake Ritson as Rao and Brainiac , Ian McElhinney as Val-El and Colin Salmon as General Dru-Zod. They sure as hell love casting British actors in this show because there's a lot of them in the main cast and that's not a bad thing since it means more people might then want to watch British films.

Acting wise the show is a very mixed bag and I think that's because for a lot of the cast this is there first big thing Cameron Cuffe who's only been acting for a few years prior to this show tho does deliver a great performance as Seg and for me it's always great to see Colin Salmon in anything I just love him.

This show does take liberties with established Superman lore i'm not going to spoil what liberties are taken but if you've seen the show you'll know exactly what I mean and it's something that did drive me a little crazy or is that crazyer?.

I will admit tho that the ten episode format does work for this show since alot of the episodes are jam packed with plot elements that even going to thirteen episodes could make people turn of the show but sticking to ten episodes means that the story can advance at a nice pace and it won't feel rushed or like it's out stayed it's welcome.

I'll admit that for a show airing on Syfy the CGI is pretty freaking good and I wish I knew who was doing the CGI so I could thank them because Syfy shows very rarely have good CGI in fact most of them have terrible CGI but this show has proven that a show on Syfy can have good CGI effects and I hope that other shows take note but tho the effects in this show aren't as good as the ones in The Flash.

Like Game Of Thrones this show films in Belfast but I don't think they film in same studio altho that would have been awesome and they also film in Canada and I have to say you can't really tell what was filmed in a studio and what was filmed out on location apart from obvious scenes for example any scene inside the fortress of solitude for example.

I'll admit that I checked out of this series around episode four maybe episode five but I did watch the season finale and i'd seen enough of the series to make an impression and from what i've seen everything is just meh and that includes the action scenes they just feel average to me and for an action heavy show like this that's not a good thing and I hope it's something that they fix in season two.

Overall this is mostly an average show for everything that I liked about it I found one thing that I didn't like but given how season one ended i'm interested in where they go in season two but season one scores a 5.5 out of 10 from me.

Krypton "Pilot" Review

Hello Superman fans over the years there have been tons of shows based on Superman but apart from a few scenes here and there there has not been a show set on Krypton well that all changes so here is my review of the pilot episode of Krypton.

Now for some unknown reason this show has taken a whopping four years to get here and even during that four year long waiting period nobody knew if it was going to be made or not and for the life of me i cannot think why it's taken this long for the show to finally air but all I can say is the wait was worth it.

The plot of the pilot is Superman's grandfather Seg finds out somethings he never knew about his family and that's all I can really say about the episode because anything else would give away the episode it self but I can say that I thought the story was a little bit slow paced at times which I do understand since it's a pilot episode but it's also a science fiction show.

I'm not kidding when I say this but the shows cast is mostly British people and i'm ok with that so starring in it we have Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El , Georgina Campbell , Shaun Sipos , Elliot Cowan , Ann Ogbomo , Wallis Day and Rasmus Hardiker. I don't know who did the casting for this show but i'm guessing they are a fan of British actors since alot of the cast are as I mentioned British and they all turn in really good performances which i didn't expect from a pilot episode.

I'm a huge fan of Superman: The Movie it is in my opinion the best Superman movie ever made and it stars the best greatest Superman ever period so I was glad that this episode incorporated something truly iconic from this movie into the episode and it actually fits in quite well i'm not going to say what it is but anyone with half a brain could figure it out.

Now what I noticed is that for some reason this episode has two directors listed and yet when I did some research about the show I found out that when they announced the start of production on this episode only one director was listed so i'm not left wondering if they did any re-shoots on this episode or not and if they did you actually cannot tell.

For a show based on a Superhero character there's shockingly not a lot of action in this episode at all I think in total there's only two or three action scenes spread out the entire forty five minuets and while that is kinda refreshing to see at the same time I did find myself wondering when there's going to be an action just so things would get interesting.

One of the few things I think we can all agree on is the fact that The Cw DC shows have great CGI and now I would like to formally add Krypton to that list of shows with great CGI since the CGI in this show to me was almost on par with the effects used for Grodd in The Flash season 3 yes they are that good.

Overall this wasn't a bad pilot but it does leave a lot of room for improvement and it has nine weeks to improve because unlike The CW which renews any show Syfy isn't that kind and i'm not going to rate this episode since it is just a pilot and thus the beginning of the story but I might do a series review after episode 10 if i'm still watching by that point.
